He may not have won any awards on the night, but that didn’t mean Ed Sheeran had chucked in his multi-million pound record deal to become a waiter.
Lady Gaga, 28, could have been convinced nonetheless, after mistaking the 23-year-old British artist for backstage staff at the Grammys on Sunday night.
The Pokerface singer’s indiscretion was revealed in a tweet by Ed after the bash where he laughed off the mistake and claimed to be in need of a new suit.

Sheeran’s tweet, which he later deleted, read: ‘I love @ladygaga. Spoke to her earlier and she mistook me for a waiter. Gotta love the #GRAMMYs. #INeedANewSuit? Aha’
Not even a moving performance of his hit Thinking Out Loud or an eclectic collaboration with Jeff Lynne’s Electric Light Orchestra on the night could rouse any recognition from the infamous Gaga.

Laughing it off: Ed tweeted his love for Gaga after she failed to recognise his international stardom
Ed – who was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album, Album Of The Year and Best Song Written For Visual Media – was dapper on the night in a black waist coat and white shirt with rolled up sleeves; believing it could have been his year at the Grammys following three previous nods.
Meanwhile Gaga was the ultimate red carpet diva in silver, top-to-toe sparkle; a plunging neckline and a daring thigh-high split to add a sultry spin.
Much like Ed who was left feeling like his world-renowned stardom wasn’t reflected in his evening attire, Lady Gaga’s wardrobe choice also caused her some issues at the awards ceremony.

As seen on stage: Ed delivered a performance of his number 1 hit Thinking Out Loud as well as a unique collaboration with Jeff Lynne’s Electric Light Orchestra

Empty handed: The multi-million selling artist was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album, Album Of The Year and Best Song Written For Visual Media but walked away with nothing on the night
She was pictured suffering an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction as she walked alongside legendary crooner Tony Bennett.
Gaga was forced to readjust her halter neckline for fear of a a nip slip, swinging her white-grey tresses over one shoulder to conceal the gaping V.
Six-time Grammy winner Gaga was recognised on the night for her collaboration with Bennett on the album Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.

Outfit issues: Much like Ed felt like he needed a new suit, Gaga was left feeling like she needed more to her dress
She later shared a tweet of gratitude, saying: ‘We WON?????! @itstonybennett & I are so grateful to win this Grammy together! Thank you to our fans! Benedettos, lil’ monsters & @theGrammys!
Brought back down to earth by his mistaken identity and failing to collect a gong on the night, Ed still wasn’t moping by the end of the night though.
His number 1 single Thinking Out Loud shot to the top of the iTunes Downloads chart following his stage performance and he captioned a snap of the chart rise with the sign off, ‘All is well.’
