Tears, Disappointment And A Very Careful Seating Plan: As Jennifer Aniston And Angelina Jolie Attend Same Event For First Time In Six Years

It was a tough day for Jennifer Aniston.

First she was snubbed by the Oscars on Thursday when the nominations were announced then she had to face Angelina Jolie on the red carpet (the first time in six years) before losing the Best Actress gong at the Critics’ Choice Awards to Julianne Moore.

But she wasn’t the only one to lose out as her former love rival Jolie also lost in the directing category to Richard Linklater.

Jolie and Aniston were clearly seated far apart from one another at the ceremony.

When Julianne Moore was announced as the winner for her moving turn in Still Alice, Aniston, 45, was visibly emotional.

The former Friends star looked to be a bit teary eyed as Moore took to the stage, no doubt feeling the disappointment of the loss.

‘One thing I know is that I’m a girl’s girl,’ Julianne began in her speech, before giving a shout out to her fellow nominees Reese Witherspoon, Rosamund Pike, Aniston and Felicity Jones.

‘I am so inspired by you all and just honored to be in your company’.

Jennifer appeared to be particularly touched by her mention, as she seemed to be tearing up when Julianne said she felt her ‘pain’.

But when Jolie, 39, lost out to Linklater, who won for his film Boyhood, she was a bit more composed. The actress turned director cheered on Linklater and appeared to be quite happy for the veteran auteur.

The two stars attended the awards ceremony on Thursday night at the Hollywood Palladium.

But Brad Pitt was noticeably absent while Aniston made sure to bring her man Justin Theroux to the event.

And while the women did not face off in the same nominations category they certainly had a fashion showdown.

Angelina opted for a glamorous silver gown that cinched tight around her waist, displaying her slim but voluptuous body.

Aniston sported a blazer without a bra or undershirt with matching suit pants and a series of elegant chains over her chest.

Brad Pitt was married to Aniston from 2000 to 2005, leaving his wife after filming Mr & Mrs Smith with Jolie.

While both Brad took pains to deny that anything untoward happened while he was married, Jolie has said they fell in love while filming the movie.

Back in 2009 an encounter between Angelina and Aniston was narrowly avoided at the Oscars.
