Gambian Dictator Yahyah Jammeh Jails A Nigerian And Two Other Nationals for Trying To Conduct Opinion Polls

Gambian Sait Matty Jaw and Ghanaian Seth Yaw Kandeh also to face kangaroo tribunal

Senegal based Aisha Dabo sent the report below;

Sait Matty Jaw, and Ghanaian Mr Seth Yaw Kandeh, and Nigerian Mr Olufemi Erinli Titus, two employees of Facts International Ghana Ltd, were charged on 10th December on two counts of disobedience to statutory duty, two counts of conspiracy to commit misdemeanour and failure to register a business.

They have been remanded them to the Mile2 Central Prison.

Jaw was first arrested by the secret service NIA along two employees of Facts International Ghana Ltd on 4th November 2014 regarding an opinion poll Facts International was supposed to conduct in the country on behalf of Gallup Inc. Sait Matty Jaw was bailed on 12th November and was reporting to the NIA on a regular basis.

His “colleagues”, Ghanaian Mr Seth Yaw Kandeh, and Nigerian Mr Olufemi Erinli Titus, travelled to The Gambia for the project. Sait had told me recently that attempts to bail them from the NIA failed for they could not help produce leased properties as warranties. I have also been following the case of Kandeh and Titus but until this new development I haven’t learnt of any concrete steps their embassies took on the ground regarding their cases.

According to information gathered, the survey was supposed to deal with people and their community, how people perceived the different sectors of their society. The Gambia leg was part of opinion polls to be conducted in a number of African countries on the same issue.

Unconfirmed sources said the remanded three are expected to appear in court in two weeks
