Dear Mr. Inspector General of Police sir, first of all, let me congratulate you for getting up there with this your dismal attitude very un befitting of a symbol of command, I don’t know how you did it, but it’s a feat because in saner climes, if this was how you misbehaved all the way, we probably wouldn’t have known that there was a Suleiman Abba in the Police Force, talk less of riding through the ranks to the apex. Kudos!
Afraid I might bore you with too many felicitations you can swiftly tell was born out of an undiluted disgust, permit me to as well congratulate you for assuming the powers of a constitutional kingmaker. Again, that was no mean fit.
So Mr. Inspector General and Constitutional Maker General of the Federation sir, Keep it up and you’d soon find yourself marring and even making not only House of Reps Speakers, but Vice Presidents and Presidents of the Federal Republic. That makes you above all.
I know you can’t wait for a fertile ground to test run that ability in the 2015 general election. What do you call it again? Field operation “secure” the ballot box, am I right? But hey, you’re not yet done with #OurNass. Finish them!
Before your confirmation as IG, I prayed for you, I prayed that they confirm you as IG, not like I believed you could stir the magic wand, just so we could cut the “acting” crap that ceremonially comes as a prefix while typing your name. Don’t thank me for this line; you’d scorn me for the next one.
I also prayed that if you would only contribute to the chronic vulgarism and unpalatable decadence already growing grey beards in the Nigerian Police Force, may you not stay long on that seat. May you be sacked before you blink even one wrong blink….amen
You can save your breath of appreciation or spit of scorn coz there you are, already confirmed, running things. So, it remains to be seen what posterity has in stuck.
You see sir, considering the level of your exposure and experience thus far; again, I know you know that in saner climes, your deed or misdeed based on the principles of whatever drives you ethically or unethically, will make or mar your appointment.
Unfortunately, same cannot be said of a clime where only those who walk on red carpets and eat on plates of gold blow the piper, nor a clime where we are quick to blame the potencies of witches and wizards for our burdens. That’s why it won’t surprise me if you get away with your actions. It’s just some few days bickering and everything will douse after all. As is customary.
Let me tell you a short story, one day, I boarded a Cab here in Abuja. Cab driver wasn’t supposed to park where he parked but he did. The next minuits, a fierce looking police lady on duty approached. She regarded him with a forceful scornful look, like she was going to tear him to shreds the next minuits. He pleaded but the scorn on her face wasn’t easing. She looked resolute in taking him in with a no nonsense impression. Then it occurred to the cabbie to try out the best language Nigerian Police Force understands. He dug his hand into his pocket and extended her a handshake, she shook, suddenly her rock like face eased and she hearken to his plea coz it now made sense. Dude now had the confidence to leave his ride put and load passengers, he be like “I don pay bribe, now I get mouth” He started calling out to passengers and the police lady just looked the other way, acting oblivious of his act. A car wanted making a u-turn, but the illegally parked vehicle hindered it, the police lady couldn’t do anything and dude refused to move. The car had to squeeze its way in, obstructing other road users. If that Police Officer had looked into my eyes, she’d have seen “I’d report you to IGP Abba” boldly and contemptibly written. But now I guess I can’t report her again right? Please remind me, what did they say about birds of the same feathers again sir?
There are many things about the misconduct of your men that I would have reported to you sir just to give you’re a redemption crusade heads up.
The rapes, the brutalities, the trigger discharges, the contempt and gross display of impunity against laws they are suppose to uphold, tramps and trumps on fundamental human rights and most annoying the road blocks.
I wanted even putting it to you that when you announced that all roadblocks be dismantled and your men didn’t obey, it is either your men take you and your orders for granted or they knew you were just putting up a media farce to deceive millions of gullible Nigerians. Now I know better, Nigerians too do.
I wanted reporting you that your men now collect bribes compulsorily as if you owe their fathers credit in the previous world.
I wanted reporting you how I have on many occasions witnessed your men barricade roads, make drivers alight and do the offering before they are allowed passage.
This is endangering the life of Nigerians especially at night whereby they could easily play into armed robbers. Police dey flash torchlight for night, armed robbers ma dey do the same thing, how you wan differentiate them, abi na senior cousins and junior cousin dem be? Just asking.
Mr. IG sir, many people get a job and leave it undone for the next in line to come and leave it undone as well and the chain goes on. Why? Simply because they do not know the real meaning of what that job even is hence do not feel the magnitude of burden the job has on their shoulders.
I wanted reporting you all these because even though I am not sure whether I like you or not, I wanted you to do a good job in the Police force by cleaning up your men first and then other things next.
I do not only want you to be that outstanding Inspector General there never was, but I wanted Nigerians to even after you leave office, live to remember that there was once an IG. Do you know why is that despite the fact that I think I don’t like you? Because we have moved pass the stage in Nigeria where we had better let the betterment of our Nation in dealing with National affairs rank above our personal interest however strongly held.
So what exactly is my point?
Alright, I have probably blabbed for long so at this point I figure I could stop these little small talks and cut out the chase. Here are my exact points.
Three; Delusionally you are trying to secure your job in the hands of our almighty power brokers, but realistically you are making your job more and more of an endangered specie, with the way you are going, you’d definitely take a hard hit not on a brick wall, but a rock wall; remember how former IG Tafa Balogun’s boy handcuffed him? Life is like a parade ground, at the shout of about turn, the first man becomes the last, and the last becomes the first. #ReadHistory.
Two; I wish you would place National interest above personal one. Yeah I know it’s difficult, I know your attitude is typically characteristic of Policemen, I also know all that talk about how we do not change character completely; only learn to act new roles. Do you think Mr. IG sir you can learn to…to…act a new role?
One; if you cannot learn to act new “good” roles, for the betterment of the Police Force and by extension the Nation at large, then am afraid you will fail woefully in helming the Police Force and can never, ever redeem its battered image!
But wait o oga IG, na like this power dey shark?
