Two Men In Court For Attempting To Kill Security Guards

Two men, Kola Owoiya, 27, and Akintunde Akinlade, 30, who allegedly threatened to kill some security guards with charms and cutlasses, were on Tuesday  brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Owoiya and Akinlade, who are of no fixed addresses, are standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and attempting to commit felony.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Austine Ejembi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Nov. 22 at 1.30 a.m. at the main gate of Dolphin Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Ejembi said that the accused threatened to kill one Clement Onyeka and other guards at the estate gate with cutlasses and charms.

He said that the offences committed contravened Sections 404 and 409 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Section 404 provides that any person, who attempts to commit a felony, is liable to seven years imprisonment if no other punishment is provided.

Mr Daniel Abbey, counsel to the accused, urged the court to grant his clients’ bail in liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Mrs F. O. Dalley, granted the accused N50, 000 bail each with two sureties each in like sum.

She said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of payment of two years’ tax and adjourned the case to December 4, for mention.
