Arsenal’s injury mire is gradually easing, and there are now indications that many of the long term absentees are set to make their comeback from injury. Arsene Wenger gave the good news that Oliver Giroud is set to make his come back against Manchester United. The French striker has recovered sufficiently from his broken tibia in record time. While Mikel Arteta has also recovered from the hamstring strain he picked up against Anderlecht two weeks ago.
“Giroud and Arteta are both available. It’s just a question of how ready they are. Arsene Wenger said on Thursday. But they are available.
“Giroud is three or four weeks ahead of schedule. Originally we planned to have him back for competition at the beginning of next year. So he’s one month ahead.”
However the positive news ends there. Both Mathieu Debuchy and Laurent Koscielny are both making good progress from ankle and Achilles injuries respectively. According to Arsene Wenger, both players are three weeks away, and they could be available towards the end of the year. The news on Koscielny is particularly heart warming as Arsenal have struggled in defence in his absence. The update Wenger three weeks ago on Koscielny’s Achilles looked grim, but the new development is a complete turn around from what previously held sway.
“Koscielny and Debuchy are doing well, they are out on the field [working] again. We have to see now. Usually field work is three weeks away from full group training.
“Then there is fitness. It looks straightforward for Debuchy. It’s not inflammation, it’s just repairing surgery. For Koscielny, it depends how well he responds to training. At the moment he looks good.”
While Arsene Wenger is looking at three weeks for both players to make their comeback from injury, the news on Mesut Ozil is that he remains out until the new year, the German playmaker banjaxed his knee ligament in the match against Chelsea in early October. He was initially ruled out for six weeks, but he is not expected back until the New Year.
“he is doing well but he will not be ready before the start of 2015.” Arsene Wenger said.
