Director, the Centre for Gender Studies, Benue State University, Magdalyne Dura, has called on the Federal Government to fight the root cause of the insurgency. She made the call in Abuja yesterday at this year’s International Peace Day themed “the Right of
People to Peace”. According to her, it is imperative for the government to x-ray the environment that has bred insurgency in the country and address it squarely. She stressed the need for collaboration among traditional institutions, policy makers and security agencies to curb insurgency in Nigeria.
She asked traditional rulers to check the influx of aliens and people of shady character into their domain as well as reporting breach of peace to relevant authorities. She said, “The Federal Government should come up with a marshal plan for the reduction of poverty and make efforts to provide relief materials and protection for persons displaced by the insurgency.”
