Excitement is in the air as the curtains are raised for the beginning
of the new football season as OMOJUWA.COM brings you a complete
preview of the games this weekend in the EPL.
LIVERPOOL VS STOKE CITY.
The season’s first game would be played at the elegant and majestic
Anfield as Liverpool will host Stoke City. In the previous past 5
meetings between these 2 sides, Liverpool have managed just 2 wins and
3 goalless draws. If the reds do win this one, it would be their first
win over stoke in more than 2 years.
LIVERPOOL SIGNINGS: kolo (man. city) Luis Alberto (sevilla) Iago Aspas
(Celta vigo) Simon Mignolet (Sunderland).
STOKE CITY SIGNINGS: Erik Peiters (PSV) Marc Muniesa (Barcelona).
KICK OFF: 12.45 pm
BETTING TIPS: The smart money would be on a draw with the option of
less than 2.5 goals.
ARSENAL VS ASTON VILLA.
The emirates stadium will welcome familiar foes in the shape of Aston
Villa. The Villains have somehow managed to hang on to Benteke and he
is in high spirits scoring freely in preseason. Arsenal on the other
hand have had a different summer as they have gotten rid of many dead
work but new signing are proving difficult.
The last 2 meetings between these 2 teams provided just 3 goals, so
this could be a close encounter.
ARSENAL SIGNINGS: Yaya Sanogo.
ASTON VILLA SIGNINGS : Nicklas Helenius, Jores Okore, Leandro Bacuna,
Aleksandar Tonev, Antonio Luna.
KICK OFF : 3pm
BETTING ODDS : Arsenal Win with over 2.5 goals.
NORWICH CITY VS EVERTON :
Everton begin life in the premiership with David Moyes away from home
with a trip to Norwich. Roberto Martinez would love to hit the ground
running and winning this would be a great way to start off.
The Toffees were difficult to beat last season with only the 2
Manchester teams recording more victories than them and with any major
change in playing personnel, I expect the same to continue this season.
Norwich had to battle off relegation last season and they would be
looking to avoid a repeat by winning games such as these. This has all
the makings of a drab premiership draw written all over it.
The canaries have done some smart business in the off season. With
the departure of Grant Holt, the have swung into action and made
addition to what already is a decent side.
Many do not believe that spaniard Roberto Martinez is the right man
for the Everton job but my money is on him to prove a good choice. I
can see Everton stealing all three points in this game.
NORWICH SIGNINGS: Gary Hooper, Leroy Fer, Carlo Nash, Nathan Redmond,
Ricky van Wolfswinkel, Javier Garrido, Martin Olsson.
EVERTON SIGNINGS: Joel Robles, Gerard Deulofeu, Aruona Kone, Antolin Alcaraz.
KICK OFF 3pm
BETTING TIPS: possible Everton win with the option of a draw to get
your money back.
SUNDERLAND VS FULHAM
These are two teams that have the potential to do better than what
they achieved last season finishing in the bottom half of the table.
Sunderland have the charismatic Paolo Di Canio as manager and having
seen them through troubled waters last season, they would be looking
forward to the new season with renewed optimism.
Fulham had a terrible end to the last campaign and Martin Jol would
want Bervatov and company to change that.
The last five meetings between these two teams has seen the cottages
take three wins and shared points on two occasions though Sunderland
did enjoy a rare win over Fulham last season beating them by 3 goals
to 1.
I can safely say that this going to be an interesting game of
football. Fulham should be able to nick at least a point in this match
up.
SUNDERLAND SIGNINGS: Jozy Altidore, Vito Mannone, Cabral, David Moberg
Karlsson, Modibo Diakite,Valetin Roberge , Emmanuele Giaccherini.
FULHAM SIGNINGS: Sascha Reither, Derek Boateng, Fernando Amorebieta,
Maartin Stekeleburg,Arge Freddy Plumain.
KICK OFF: 3pm.
BETTING TIPS: Both teams to score.
WEST HAM UNITED VS CARDIFF.
Newly promoted Cardiff face a stern test in what would be their first
taste of premiership football. The blue birds have had it tough
against the hammers with only a solitary win in their last four
encounters. West ham have been busy in the transfer market and with the
eventual capture of last season’s hero Andy Carroll, the mood at the
Boleyn Ground is very good.
If Cardiff are able to steal victory over west ham, they would have
made history by become only the third club in the current 20 in the
league to have won they very first premier league game but that seems
like a very big ask.
WESTHAM UNITED SIGNINGS: Andy Carroll, Danny whitehead, Stewart
Downing, Razvan Rat.
CARDIFF SIGNINGS: Andreas Cornelius, John brayford, Simon Moore, Steven Caulker.
KICK OFF : 3pm
BETTING TIPS: I cannot see beyond a win for the hammers.
SWANSEA CITY VS MANCHESTER UNITED
The whole of England will have one eye on the outcome of this match
not only because Manchester United are premiership champions but also
because for the first time in over two and half decades, there is a
new man in the Manchester United dug out.
Yes, Sir Alex Ferguson is gone and David Moyes is the man at the
helms at Old Trafford.
With no major additions made to the champions, Manchester United are
expected to roll out the same team that prosecuted last season.
In this same fixture last season, Swansea were unlucky not to have
collected all three points and that performance should still be fresh
in the minds of those players.
Manchester United have a very tough start to the season and getting a
win on the first day could set the tone for next five to six weeks.
MANCHESTER UNITED SIGNINGS: Guillermo Varela.
SWANSEA CITY SIGNING : Jose Canas, Jordi Amat, Gregor Zabret, Alex
Gogic, Alejandro Pozuelo, Jonjo Shelvey, Wilfried Bony, Jernade Meade.
KICK OFF: 5.30 pm.
BETTING TIPS: Manchester United to win.
CRYSTAL PALACE VS TOTTENHAM HOTSPURS.
Ian Holloway’s Championship play-off winners entertain Tottenham
Hotspurs in their first match in the top flight after an eight-year
absence.
Crystal Palcace have lost the star man Wilfried Zaha to Manchester
United and would have to look to their other players for inspiration
to survive in the premiership.
Tottenham Hotspurs will begin their campaign without the talismanic
Gareth Bale who is out till the end of August and Spurs have looked
very flat without him.
It will be interesting to see how spurs will line up without Bale and
Jan Vertoghen.
Tottenham should have enough in their arsenal to see off the newly
promoted side but as is usually the case with derbies, this is bound
to be a feisty one.
CRYSTAL PALACE SIGNINGS: Jerome Thomas, Stephen Dobbie, Dwight
Gayle,Elliot Grandin, Marouane Chamakh.
TOTTENHAM HOTSPURS SIGNINGS: Paulinho, Nacer Chadli, Roberto Soldado.
KICK OFF 1.30 pm(SUNDAY)
BETTING TIPS: Spurs win with both teams to score.
CHELSEA VS HULL
This is the second time in three Premier League seasons that have have
begun their campaign at Stamford Bridge. They almost shared the points
at their last attempt until an added time winner from Didier Drogba
won it for Chelsea.
Chelsea have fan favorite Jose Mourinho back as coach and they will
look to get straight to the business of reclaiming the Premiership
title and winning this game would be just the way to start out.
I cannot see Hull City presenting Chelsea with a difficult test and
this should be a fairly easy and routine win for the blues.
CHELSEA SIGNINGS: Andre Schurrle, Marco van Ginkel, Mark Schwarzer.
HULL SIGNINGS: Goerge Boyd, Maynor Figueroa, Curtis Davies, Ahmed
Elmohamady, Allan McGregor, Steve Harper, Danny Graham, Yannick Sagbo.
KICKOFF: 4pm (SUNDAY).
BETTING TIPS: Chelsea win comfortable.
MANCHESTER CITY VS NEWCASTLE UNITED.
Monday night will witness the clash between the premiership runners up
and Newcastle United.
Manchester City have only one objective this term and have spent the
money to ensure that they do not fail at it. They want the title back
from their neighbors.
Roberto Mancini has left and Chilean Manuel Pellegrini has taken charge.
In the reserve fixture last season, Man city ran out 4-0 winners and
I cannot see a different outcome this time around.
Newcastle has lost their last seven consecutive games against Man
City and have not beaten them since september 2005.
MAN CITY SIGNINGS: Fernandinho, Jesus Navas, Alvaro Negredo, Stevan Jovetic.
NEWCASTLE UNITED SIGNINGS: Oliver Kemen, Loic Remy.
KICK OFF : 8pm (monday)
