Naira Is Worst Performing Currency- Bloomberg

The naira is the worst performing currency this year among more than 150 currencies globally, the Bloomberg media has said.
It has depreciated 37 percent against the dollar since the central bank abandoned its peg on June 20, while bond yields have jumped to more than 20 percent. The naira strengthened 4.6 percent to 315 per dollar on Tuesday after falling to a record 350.25 on Aug. 19.

“The cheap naira is attracting foreign investors,” said Lutz Roehmeyer, a money manager at Landesbank Berlin Investment, which oversees about $12 billion of assets. “At 325 per dollar, the naira is too weak” and Landesbank anticipates a rebound, he said.
More than two months after Nigeria allowed its currency to devalue, the country is starting to reap some dividends.
In the past two weeks, Exotix Partners LLP and Standard Bank Group Ltd. have told clients, most of whom fled after the country started imposing capital controls from late 2014, that they should start buying naira assets again.
Roehmeyer’s funds have doubled their holdings of naira debt, albeit in the form of bonds issued by the World Bank’s International Finance Corp. rather than the Nigerian government, to the equivalent of around $9.2 million this month, he said.
Nigeria’s central bank Governor Godwin Emefiele fixed the currency in February 2015 at 197-199 per dollar to stop it plunging amid the decline in the price of oil, on which Nigeria depends for 90 percent of exports and the bulk of government revenue. He relented after 16 months as the country stumbled toward a recession  and foreign reserves fell to their lowest level in 11 years .
The naira has now weakened more than any other major oil currency since mid-2014, when crude prices started retreating. It’s lost almost half its value against the dollar in that period, compared with 46 percent for Kazakhstan’s tenge and 35 percent for the Colombian peso.
That makes it a good time to buy Nigerian one-year Treasury bills with yields of about 22 percent, Stuart Culverhouse, chief economist at Exotix in London, wrote in an Aug. 9 note. The potential return is more than 33 percent if the naira strengthens to its fair value of 290 against the greenback, he said. In April, one-year T-bills yielded just 10 percent.
Investors are also yet to be convinced that the naira truly floats. The central bank sold dollars at 309 last week and may be trying to keep the rate stronger than 320, according to Craig Thompson of Continental Capital Markets SA, based in Nyon, Switzerland. The naira trades at 395 on the black market, 20 percent weaker than the official rate.
Nigerian local-currency bonds have lost 17 percent in dollar terms this quarter, through yesterday, compared with the 3 percent average return for 31 developing nations monitored by Bloomberg indexes. The yield on benchmark government naira notes due January 2026 has climbed 226 basis points since June to 15.08 percent.
“We haven’t come back in to the local market yet, but we’re looking at it closely,” Bailey-Smith said. “If you can get a yield above 20 percent and hedge the FX risk, it’s not a bad trade at all. The futures market is intended to help you do that, but it’s difficult to buy them.”

Port Harcourt Tops List Of The World’s Worst Airports

This year’s survey, which asked fliers to identify the world’s worst and best aviation terminals, attracted 26,297 qualifying responses.
Sleeping in Airports’ readers were asked to judge facilities in four categories: comfort, conveniences, cleanliness and customer service.

What landed Port Harcourt at the top of the pile? Respondents reportedly complained about unpleasant and unhelpful staff, alleged corruption, a severe lack of seating, broken air-conditioning and the fact that the arrivals hall was inside a tent.

“The good news is that some areas of the terminal have been recently renovated, meaning you can expect actual walls, floors and windows,” says the website.

“Though it is a far cry from reasonable, improvements are being made.”

CNN has asked for a comment from aviation authorities in Nigeria, but so far no response.

Remarkably, Port Harcourt didn’t even appear on last year’s worst airports list.

There were quite a few repeat offenders on this year’s list though, as well as some notable omissions.

Filipinos will be pleased to hear their long maligned Ninoy Aquino International Airport Manila Airport, crowned worst airport for three years in a row before slipping to fourth place last year, didn’t even make this year’s top 10.

Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah King Abdulaziz International Airport held onto its position as world’s second worst airport.

#MenOnly: These Famous Marriage Proposals Are Actually The Worst Ways To Propose

1. With a flash mob

This was pretty cool a couple of years ago, a guaranteed viral video hit on YouTube, but it’s kind of outdated at this point. Don’t try it with Bruno Mars’ “Marry You” either, your partner may run scared. While big points are given to those of you who put in such tremendous effort, just don’t do this — it’s way too cliche.

2. In public

This includes anywhere where there are a lot of people and crowded areas. Also, on stage during a performance, at a mall, or at a restaurant. You’re just showing off, please stop.

3. On the big screen at a sporting event

Considered just as bad as the kiss cam, and the birthday shout-out, I’m unsure as to why those two things still exist. You run the risk of being monumentally embarrassed amongst thousands of screaming fans if she happens to say no. Lest us not forget Pheobe from Friends comment about a couples’ proposal on the big screen as being lame just as Mike was about to propose to her in that exact way at a Knicks game. Even pop culture deems this as a flimsy proposal.

4. Skywriting

Mildly embarrassing in general, especially if your significant other sees it as it starts to fade. Also realize that this option will run you a couple of thousand dollars that may be better spent on your actual wedding.

5. On Valentine’s Day

Ah, the most corny of all. Need I say more? Granted, you’ll never forget what day you proposed. In 2013, the American Express Spending and Saving Tracker consumer report surveyed Americans’ Valentine’s Day plans and found that six million couples are likely to get engaged on February 14. This number has remained steady since. Don’t you want to be different than six million other couples?

6. Or any other holiday

If you propose on Christmas or Hanukkah or any other major holiday of importance and the two of you happen to not work out, the holiday, for you, will be forever tainted. Who doesn’t look forward to the holidays? Why take a chance?

7. Your birthday (or her birthday)

The same reason for not proposing on a holiday applies here. Your birthday (or your partner’s birthday) is special enough. Think sometime down the road to when you two are already married. You have to remember her birthday and the day you proposed, and it’s a double whammy if you forget both. There’s a good chance you may never hear the end of it. Don’t risk it.

8. With a professional photographer in tow

Although this is a “professional” way to capture the moment, it’s probably one that should remain private. The only reason, I can think, that someone would do this is so they could post their pictures to Facebook and Instagram. Enough with the overshare. Your proposal should be just for the two of you, something special you share and not for the world to see.

9. Proposing while drunk

Please don’t ever do this. Mainly, because most likely you won’t remember doing it.

10. Hiding the ring in food or a drink

Engagement Ring in Champagne

Perhaps you never saw that Two and a Half Men episode when Charlie plans to propose by placing the diamond engagement ring in a glass of champagne, in which his girlfriend swallows it before he gets the chance to go through with the proposal. Need I say more?

11. On social media

I’m not 100% how many people do this, but unfortunately, I am sure it is a thing. To me, this sounds worse than texting a proposal — which, by the way, you shouldn’t do either.

12. Without a ring

Tradition calls for a ring. It may be old-fashioned, but a diamond is forever and so is the hope for your marriage.

Bobbi Kristina Brown’s Family Told to Prepare for Worst, Prepares Funeral

A source close to the family tells ET that Bobbi Kristina Brown’s father Bobby Brown, husband Nick Gordon and others have been advised to prepare for the worst and that the longer the 21-year-old remains in the coma, the more likely it will be that she will not regain consciousness. They are praying for her recovery but have also started to discuss how they would handle funeral arrangements.

“Privacy is requested in this matter. Please allow for my family to deal with this matter and give my daughter the love and support she needs at this time,” Bobby said in a statement.

The daughter of the late Whitney Houston was found in a bathtub unconscious after an apparent drug overdose on Saturday morning at 10:25 a.m. Another source told ET that she was in “bad shape” when she was first found unconscious. She was taken to North Fulton Hospital and placed on a ventilator.
