Kwara woman steals bags of rice, beans with mysterious powers

A 27-year-old woman, identified as Kafayat Abdulsalam, who is said to possess mystical power to steal food, has been reportedly arrested by operatives of Kwara State Police Command.

The suspect was allegedly arrested with stolen bags of rice and beans among other food items she reportedly stole with mysterious powers.

The suspect was alleged to be in the habit of touching the food items under the pretence of buying the items, but ends up not buying same. The traders said moments later, the touched food items disappear only to surface in the woman’s lone building at Oko Olowo area of Ilorin.

It was gathered that the men of the police command apprehended the suspect last week after receiving series of complaints from some members of the public about a woman, who allegedly goes around, using superna-tural powers to steal goods from their shops. It was also gathered that almost everything the suspect touched disappeared, based on which she was reported to police.

Abdul Suleiman, who witnessed the arrest of Kafayat by men of the ‘A’ Division, told Vanguard that about N2 million was found on her before she was taken away for interrogation.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi, who confirmed the arrest, denied that money found in her residence was up to N2 million. Okasanmi also affirmed that policemen found food items with the suspect, adding that she was in the habit of going to shops pretending to be a buyer and allegedly stole items with mysterious powers in the process.

He further said that the suspect told the police that it was the stolen items that she used to display for sale in her shop and that investigation was ongoing.

The Cable: Gender equality bill does not seek to erode the rights of men

Contrary to the belief that the gender equality bill seeks to violate religious laws, the legislation just promotes fairness and justice for both sexes and adherents of all religions in Nigeria.

Biodun Olujimi, a senator from Ekiti state, first presented the bill in March 2016, but it was shot down by a faction of senators led by Ahmed Yerima from Zamfara state.

Yerima had said the bill was against the tenets of sharia law because it proposed to erode men’s rights by eliminating discrimination in areas of marriage, divorce, education, employment opportunities, ownership of property and inheritance.

He was supported by senators like Adamu Aliero (Kebbi state) and Emmanuel Bwacha (Taraba state).
Majority of the senators voted that the bill be trashed.

Senate President Bukola Saraki had assured Nigerians, who protested the non-passage of the bill, that it could be re-introduced after being reworked to pull out paragraphs that an all-male opposition described as offensive.

Olujimi reintroduced it to the senate five months later, precisely in September, rewording certain parts that were considered “offensive”.

This time, with watered down contents, it scaled through second reading. Yet some people received it with angst. Sa’ad Abubakar, the sultan of Sokoto, rejected the bill.

The sultan, who is the president-general of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs(NSCIA), had rejected the bill on the premise that it negates the principles of Islam.

But it wasn’t only the Sultan opposed the bill, Muslim women under the body of federation of Muslim women association of Nigeria (FOMWAN) aligned with the sentiments of the monarch.

“The share of a woman or girls is not necessarily equal to that of their female counterparts who are also partaking in the inheritance. There are situations that a woman takes more share than a man. See Quran 4:11-12”, the group had held.

But the bill, long titled “A bill for an Act to Incorporate and enforce certain provisions of the United Nations Convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women, the Protocol of the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights on the rights of women in Africa, and other matters connected therewith, 2016 (SB. 301)”, rather than violate Islamic laws, buttresses chapters 2 and 4 of the constitution, the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the protocol to the African Charter on the Rights of Women in Africa.

The bill is also to give effect to the international convention on human right which affirms the principle of non-discrimination and that all human beings are born free, equal in dignity and rights, and that everyone is entitled to all the rights set out without distinction of any kind including distinction based on sex.

WHAT THE BILL REALLY IS

The bill is an act to incorporate and enforce certain provisions of the united nations convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women, the protocol to the African charter on human and people’s rights on the rights of women in Africa.

If passed, the bill will stop any person, public or private organisation from discriminating through words spoken, acts, inactions, omissions, laws, regulations, administrative procedures, policies, guidelines, rules, customs or practices discriminate against any person on the ground of gender, age or disability.

It seeks to void any law, custom or practice which constitutes discrimination. The bill will ensure that that no individual or institution rules or directive which is in violation of the bill shall be enforced against any person.

The bill also seeks to accord women, children and other persons equality before the law. It guarantees women equal right to conclude contracts and administer property and seeks to treat women equally with men in all stages of court proceedings.

The bill also seeks to ensure that no legal contracts restricts or discriminates against anyone in terms of legal capacity and seeks to stop any individual, public or private organisation from denying women any benefits just because she is a woman.

ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE

The gender equality bill requires that pregnant women and mothers of children two years and below gets access to free medical care to reduce maternal and infant mortality.

The bill seeks to reserve a minimum of 35 percent of all offices or positions for women in political and public administration to encourage more women in positions and decision-making circles.

EQUALITY IN FAMILY LIFE

The bill seeks to ensure that the values, practices and forms of upbringing of children in the family or community is not discriminatory and promotes a proper understanding of maternity as social functions and the recognition of the common responsibility of men and women in the upbringing and development of their children.

It seeks to abolish unfair, humiliating and degrading treatment of widows and guarantees a widow’s right to guardianship and custody of her children after the death of her husband unless it is contrary to the best interest and welfare of the child.

The bill also seeks to protect the widow’s right to marry the person she wants, inherit her husband’s property and continue to live in her matrimonial home, and in the case of re-marriage, retain the house if it belongs to her.
The gender equality bill seeks to ensure that children, regardless of their sex, can equitably inherit property of their parents.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY IN SCHOOLS AND WORK PLACE

The bill seeks to ensure that every individual, public or private organisation takes all appropriate measures to eliminate discrimination against women in the political and public life. This means that women and men have equal access to political activities, can vote and be voted for, participate in the formulation of policies and implementation.
The bill seeks equal conditions for women regarding educational career and vocational guidance. It seeks the elimination of stereotypes of roles of men and women at all level of education and encourage coeducation.

The bill seeks to ensure that organisations, private or public, uphold the right of both sexes to work and stop the discrimination of women in the employment occupation or profession. It seeks to protect the right of women to equal opportunities, including the same application criteria and the right to work commensurate with skill and competence.

The bill, if passed, will promote right to free choice of employment and equal treatment and consideration in the areas of promotion, job security and all benefits and conditions of services. The right to equal remuneration of persons of equal skill, competence, expertises and knowledge.

The right to paid maternity leave or any such leave relating to her maternity need, right to sick leave or concession relating to her maternity needs. Be given equal opportunity to represent organs of organisations, public and private in any official capacity to represent Nigeria,

The bill seeks to empower the National Human Rights Commission to enforce and implement the provisions of the bill and stipulate consequences for the violation of the laws enshrined in the bill.

Woman in court for slapping employer’s mother

A 32-year-old female employee, Sarah Oboh, who allegedly slapped and tore the clothes of her employer’s mother was on Friday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Oboh, a resident of Surulere area of Lagos State, is being tried for breach of peace, damage and assault.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. Clement Okuoimose, the accused committed the offences on Feb.1 at Bolaji Street, Ikeja, Lagos.

He said that the accused assaulted Mrs Olubunmi Jeyibo, by slapping her and tearing her clothes.

“The accused gave the complainant a slap and she also tore her clothes valued at N25,000,” he said.

He said that the complainant was assaulted when she went to her late son’s company to check the well being of staff and discuss with the accused who was managing the company.

“She went to her son’s company to have discussion with the accused who is in charge after the demise of her son. “During the discussion, an argument ensued and the accused slapped the complainant on her right cheek.

“She went further by tearing her clothes,” he said. The offences contravened sections 166, 170 and 348 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. Section 170 prescribes a year imprisonment as penalty for assault.

The accused pleaded innocence of the offences and was granted bail in the sum of N20,000 with two sureties in like sum. The Magistrate, Mrs Y.O Ekogbule, adjourned the case to March 1, for mention.

Woman faints after reading sack letter by Kaduna Electric.

A mother of two, Asmau Sulaiman, reportedly fainted twice on Tuesday after receiving her sack letter from her employer, Kaduna Electric.

Mrs. Suleiman was among 530 workers disengaged by the electricity distribution company.

Some of her colleagues who spoke to our reporter said she slumped immediately she read the content of the sack letter.

“She fainted again as we helped her down from the office on the first floor”, said Rilwan Sani, one of the staff.

Until she was disengaged, Mrs. Suleiman worked for 15 months with the company at its Rigasa Area Office in Kaduna.

When our reporter spoke with her on Thursday, she said she still could not understand the reason why she was affected by the purge.

“I refused to join my husband who is currently working in Saudi Arabia and I just recently relocated and transferred my two children school from Kano to Kaduna because of this Kaduna Electric work. Is this how they will reward our hard work?” she said.

The National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, said 530 of its members lost their jobs at the company.

In one of the sack letters signed by the company’s Managing Director, Garba Haruna, and dated January 31, the firm said the disengagement of the workers was the outcome of a `Talent Review’ conducted in 2016.

The company, which distributes electricity to Kaduna, Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi states, had recruited about 2,000 workers in August 2015.

The workers’ union said the company confirmed only 20 per cent of the workforce, terminated the appointments of 60 per cent and placed 20 per cent on extended probation for six months.

The union said those whose probationary period was extended had been on the employment of the company for 16 months. It said that the company claimed it had used performance, conduct and competence test as the criteria in the talent review exercise.

But the head, corporate communications, of the company, AbdulAzeez Abdullahi, while addressing journalists on Thursday, said it was a confirmation exercise after a rigorous verification of the credentials of the staff and their levels of competence and commitment.

In a video of the press briefing posted on the company’s Facebook page, Mr. Abdullahi said the appointments of about 90 per cent of the workers were confirmed during the exercise. He said the company had nearly 3000 workers.

Meanwhile, the two in-house unions at the company, NUEE and the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied have given the Board of Directors of the company one week to remove the Managing Director.

They said it was in the interest of the Board, staff and customers for a new head to be appointed for the company in place of Mr. Haruna.

But Mr. Abdullahi waved aside the demand, saying it was not in consonance with labour relations for the staff to ask for the removal of the Managing Director or give ultimatum to the board.

Leopard mauls woman at circus as she protects 4-year-old son

A visibly angry leopard rushed at a woman, tearing flesh from her arm with its teeth in a circus show.

The woman, Lyubov Yakovleva, 53, struggled to protect her friend’s son Tim (Timofey), who she had taken to see the travelling circus show in Bogotol, Krasnoyarsk region, in Siberia.

Moments earlier, the leopard called Loki had been taken out of the arena by its woman tamer after appearing ‘aggressive’. When it came back, it immediately rushed towards the boy and his godmother, Siberia Times reported.

Lyubov said, “Suddenly he jumped in front of my nose, I only had time to cover Tim.

“The beast grabbed me with its teeth, and began to tear me up. I shrinked. What happened next, I don’t remember except like everyone else we rushed for the door.”

The police rushed the woman to a nearby hospital after circus staff succeeded in pulling the beast from her. They also suffering wounds too.

“I felt weak and nauseous,” she said.

“Doctors put in 10 stitches and her tendon was bitten all the way through, not to mention the stress and consequences in the future.

“There was no safety, no fencing. We sat in the 6th row, but the animal was there in three seconds.

“This fear and horror still is in my eyes,” the boy’s mother, Oksana Uskova, who was also with them said.

Woman Kills Husband In Quarrel Over N200 Soup Money

A young housewife in Sabon Gari, Zaria, is being accused of stabbing her husband to death in the heat of an argument over N200 meant for soup ingredients.

The lady, Zainab Hamisu, who was residing with her late husband, Suleiman Abubakar, 25, was alleged to have committed the act after Abubakar had demanded an explanation on her failure to cook for the family.

An elder brother of the deceased, Isa Abubakar, said: “At 9am of last week Thursday, I was called and told that Zainab had stabbed Suleiman and his intestines were out.

I rushed to the house and met him writhing in pain. We rushed to Major Abdullahi Memorial Hospital, but the doctor insisted that we must inform the police first since it was not an accident. I called the police and they arrested her.”

Abubakar said it was the deceased, before he died three days after the stabbing incident, that told them what transpired between him and his wife.

“He said he gave her N200 to buy soup ingredients to cook

for them. But when he asked for his food, she told him that she had used the N200 to pay her tailor for the clothe he sewed for her. My brother told her that food was more important than dress. The argument became heated and she found a kitchen knife and stabbed him,” Abubakar said. Zainab’s grandfather, Sama’una Maikaji, said they were disturbed by their daughter’s act, saying that the marriage was just about 14 months old.

The Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Aliyu Usman, did not pick his calls, but a police source said Zainab was in police custody with her 30-day-old baby.

Woman arrested for allegedly trying to sell 3 babies

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, (NAPTIP) in Ebonyi State has taken custody of a woman, Odinaka Ali, arrested by the police for alleged attempt to sell her three children in Enugu State.

The Desk Officer of NAPTIP, Florence Onwa, stated this in Abakaliki while briefing journalists on the rescue of her children.

The 25-year-old woman from Ezilo in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State was said to be living with her husband in Enugu State with her three children until eight months ago when her husband abandoned them to an unknown destination.

According to the NAPTIP Desk Officer, Mrs. Onwa, police arrested the woman following a tip-off by a restaurant attendant she contacted to look for a trafficker who can buy her children as she could no longer take care of them.

“She wanted to sell the baby but it didn’t work. She was so unfortunate because the person she met to assist her sell the baby reported the matter to the police,” said Mrs. Onwa.

However, the suspect denied the allegation saying though she sought financial assistance from the attendant to feed her children and pay her house rent, she never discussed selling them with anybody.

The woman, who said her husband was from Amekpo Ohafia in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, claimed that her arrest by the police and subsequent handover to the State Ministry of Gender Affairs in Enugu State before being brought to NAPTIP Office in Ebonyi State, was a frame-up.

She said, “My husband is from Amaekpo Ohafia, Abia State. I and my husband had issues before and we later reconciled. We did not have any problem when he abandoned us in April this year”.

“When I stayed few weeks I did not see him, I started doing menial jobs with my little children to enable me feed them. I kept doing this till it became so difficult for me to continue it and I decided to return to my village”.

“I didn’t want to sell my children at the initial time because I passed through caesarian operation before giving birth to all of them. I met a girl who sells food in a restaurant and narrated my problem to her and she promised to assist me.

“l met the girl before, so she asked me to come to her and wait for a woman who will enter into discussion with me. I waited for the woman and she did not come. I did this three times and I told the girl that I will not come again”.

“She persuaded me to continue coming and I changed my heart. Before I could notice it, Policemen stormed the place and started asking me what I was doing there and the whereabouts of the three kids I wanted to sell”.

“I told the policemen that I didn’t want to sell my babies because I gave birth to them through operations. The policemen asked me to follow them to their station and I refused.

“They immediately invited a policewoman who came and asked me to follow them to the station, that I should obey before complain and I followed them to the station.

“While in the station, the girl who asked me to come to her said I told her to start looking for who will buy my children.”

The head of Child Development Department, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Godwin Igwe, called on public spirited individuals to assist the woman take care of the children.

He said, “the three children and their mother just repatriated from the Enugu Ministry of Gender and Women Affairs to Ebonyi. The woman is from Ishielu local government area of Ebonyi State. When we interviewed her, she said she is finding it very difficult to survive let alone feed her children. She said her purported husband abandoned her and the children in April”.

“She said it was very difficult for her to be carrying the third child of eight months old for menial jobs and she became a wanderer. So, the Enugu state government repatriated her. Her mother is late and the father is very old and has nothing doing.

“Her major problem is how to eke a living. She said if the government or public spirited individual can assist her, she is ready to take care of her children.

“If she is allowed to continue to wander in the streets, the children are at risk and if anybody approaches her for the children, she can easily release the children to the person and they will become victims of child trafficking. So, the Enugu government did not repatriate her out of malice or hatred but for safety of the children.”

Meet Woman With Two Husbands Under Same Roof

Jack Chako, a Zimbabwean woman has been trending on internet after she declared her love for two men who she refers to as her husband.

She is reportedly living under the same roof with the two men whom she has sex with.

According to Zimbabwe Daily Newspaper, she is living a reality and not some movie script as Jack said the men have different strengths, which complement each other.

Also, the reports states that, this might be as a result of the unconfirmed fact that there are more women in the country than men as Fifty-two percent of the population according to the report are women compared to 48 percent of men.

“For more than a decade, Jack Chako (38) of Bolon Farm in Raffingora has been living happily with her two husbands, Michael Hwita and Liford Chimoto, with whom she shares one bed.

Chako is the head of the family and always eats from the same plate with her two husbands, and during meals, she picks up meat first as the head, followed by the senior husband Chimoto then the junior husband Hwita, in that chronological order.

“We are a happy family, I live with my two husbands and we love one another. My two husbands are best friends and they are always together,” boasted Chako.

She says the two men have different roles and between the two is a senior husband and his junior. And according to her, Chimoto is the elder husband hence the senior while Hwita is the junior.

Chako brazenly claims that she “married” the second husband Hwita because Chimoto “is elderly and increasingly becoming weak in bed”.

“I love both men. They have different strengths. Chimoto fetches a lot of firewood and cleans up the house well but he is weak in bed and weak when it comes to fending for the family. The reason why I married a second husband is that Chimoto was starving me sexually.

“Hwita is also technically minded. He repairs a lot of broken goods, including cell phones and cobbles shoes too, making him bring some cash home. His biggest strength is he is excellent and strong in bed.”

“To be honest, in terms of conjugal rights I favour Hwita. He gets me there. I only do it with Chimoto as a token. At times, I feel pity for Chimoto and give him token conjugal rights and he appreciates that. The rule is no one gets out of the room, because he is not on duty. Whoever is not on duty, just watches us at it,” narrated Chako.

She maintains that she was in charge and his two husbands are now used to sleeping side by side in one bed.

“They don’t mind and they both appreciate each other for the different roles each play to the family,” she said

Chako — a mother of five, three children from a previous marriage and two from this polyandrous affair — says all the two children she has in this set up are from Hwita.

She claims she used some concoction to pacify his two men.

Man Allegedly Rapes Pregnant Woman While She Was In Labour

A woman in Hull, East Yorkshire has accused her boyfriend of raping her after she began going into labour in their bedroom at home.

According to the Daily Mail, the woman was allegedly on her hands and knees in order to try and relieve the pain from her contractions when her husband woke up and saw her. He then allegedly claimed he was “horny” before proceeding to rape her, even though she repeatedly asked him to stop and was screaming from the pain. After the attack occurred, the woman alleges that her partner “acted as if nothing happened” and offered to run her a bath.

A few hours later, she gave birth to their son at a hospital.

During the court proceedings on Wednesday, the woman’s lawyer Michael Greenlaugh went into further detail of what allegedly happened on the evening the rape occurred.

“She was in bed, naked as she normally would be,” he said. “In order to try and relieve the pressure and the pain of the contractions, she got onto all fours because she had been told that was a way of relieving the pain.”

The prosecutor went on to state that she was in this position when her boyfriend woke up, and declare he was aroused — to which she responded, “Are you serious?” He then allegedly got behind her and began to rape her, despite the fact she was “crying in pain from the contractions” and said to him “please don’t.”

After their child was born, the Daily Mail reports that the woman went to stay with her mother due to a heating problem at the couple’s home. When she returned to the home and the scene of the alleged attack, and saw that her boyfriend was acting in an “inappropriate way” with their child, she decided to report the incident to police.

Meanwhile, the woman’s boyfriend plans to fight her allegations in court, and claims he is not guilty and does not remember having intercourse with her.

Man Drags Woman Behind Car With Rope Around Her Neck

A man has been detained by police in northern Germany after he tied a rope around a young woman’s neck and dragged her down the street behind his car.

The small town of Hameln in Lower Saxony has been left in a state of shock after the crime, which occurred on Sunday evening.

“The brutality and contempt with which this crime was carried out is horrifying. Everyone in the town is shocked,” said town spokesperson Thomas Wahmes.

The exact motive for why the 38-year-old man tied a finger-thick length of rope around the woman’s neck before tying her to the tow-bar of his car and dragging her 250 metres along asphalt and cobbled roads, remains unclear.

“But we suspect that relationship problems were behind the crime,” said police spokesperson Jens Petersen.

Police say that the woman was only freed from her torment when the rope came loose.

“It is still unclear whether the rope broke or whether it came loose from the tow-bar,” said Petersen.

The 28-year-old woman was found lying on the pavement by passersby, among them a police officer on his way into work.

After receiving emergency care, the young woman was taken to hospital in Hanover by helicopter but remained in a coma on Monday morning, with doctors describing her condition as life threatening.
The man, who is from the nearby town of Bad Münder, later handed himself into police and admitted to the crime.

He did not however give a statement that would clear up the motive.

Both the assailant and the victim are German citizens of Kurdish heritage and belong to two larger families.

Fearing possible retribution, police have taken special precautions to protect the assailant’s family. As of Monday no such act of retribution had occurred.

Now the town of Hameln is trying to come to terms with the brutal crime.

“It is hard to believe that such an act of violence took place here, just a few streets away from the town hall,” said town spokesperson Thomas Wahmes.

Man Commits Suicide on Wedding Eve, Drops Suicide Message for Sister

A 28-year-old man has committed suicide in Mushin area of Lagos State, on the eve of his wedding.

Shakiru, popularly called Jarule, was found hanging from the ceiling of his 56, Oduduwa Street, Mushin home.

Relatives told newsmen that the father of two was being expected in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, on Saturday for the event. Shakiru was said to have sent a suicide message to his sister, Mariam, which reads: “I’m sorry. Forgive me.”

Mariam had reportedly insisted on his arriving early for the event on noticing his attitude of late. But when the message came in around 6:30pm, she did not read it immediately. When she did, she tried to reach some of his friends, but all to no avail. She then got their elder sister who lives near him to go and find out what was happening. His sister found his room locked from inside indicating that he was at home.

But when he did not respond to her knocks, she called Mariam, who asked her to look through the window from where she found his lifeless body dangling from the ceiling.

The late Shakiru also left some notes in his jotter, bordering on love and his life trajectory. They included “I’m Done”, “If you are reading this, it’s too late.” He also wrote phrases such as “I love you” on the pictures of his two children.

Some relatives described his death as embarrassing and unfortunate. They said he was an introvert who hardly picked their calls. It was learnt that his wife is about eight months pregnant. He was said to have proposed an abortion which his doctor warned against because “it was too late.”

His niece, who didn’t mention her name, believes he committed suicide over financial difficulties.

According to her, he became frustrated after the death of his mother three years ago.

It was learnt that the police are detaining four persons living with the late Shakiru.

Woman docked for alleged theft of N60,000.

A 36-year-old woman, Abosede Oloyede, was on Friday arraigned in Osogbo over alleged theft.

Oloyede is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and theft at an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court.

The Prosecutor, SP Mireti Wilson, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Feb. 28, at about 12 p.m., at Omo West area, Osogbo.

Wilson said the accused conspired with others now at large to steal the sum of N60,000 from one Mrs Omotosho under the pretext of assisting her to secure employment at the Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja.

He said that the accused failed to secure the employment for the complainant and also refused to refund the money collected from her.

The offences contravened sections 516, 419 and 390(9) of the criminal code cap 34vol.11laws of Osun, 2003.

The accused pleaded not guilty.

Counsel to the accused, Mr Henry Odunayo, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Mrs Habibatu Bashiru, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 and two sureties in the like sum.

Bashiru said the sureties must reside within the court jurisdiction with evidence of tax payments and two passport size photographs, attached with an affidavit of means.

Woman Gets Pregnant Twice Within 10 Days

Of course you know twins are a possibility, but did you know that it is possible to get pregnant while already pregnant? If that boggles your mind, let Kate Hill’s story answer your questions.

Last year, the Brisbane, Australia-based mother stumped her doctor when she became pregnant twice in just 10 days. Hill’s obstetrician, Dr. Brad Armstrong, told Australian news program Today Tonight that he had never seen anything like it.

“I could not find any literature in the medical review websites at all,” he said. “I had to go and Google it.”

As it turns out, getting pregnant while already pregnant is very, very unlikely but not unheard of. It’s a phenomenon known as superfetation, in which a second fetus develops in the womb while one is already present. The fetuses aren’t twins — rather, they develop in two different sacs within the womb.

Hill previously had trouble conceiving due to polycystic ovary syndrome, and her doctor put her on hormones to aid ovulation. Though she told Today Tonight that she and her husband, Peter, only had intercourse once during that 10-day period, that’s apparently all it took. Sperm can survive for several days after sex, remaining in the cervix, uterus, and fallopian tubes. However, for a second pregnancy to occur, you would have to continue to ovulate after becoming pregnant, which would allow another fertilized egg to attach to the womb.

Robert Atlas, chairman of the obstetrics and gynecology department at Baltimore’s Mercy Hospital, spoke to Time about superfetation in 2009 following another news-making case, saying that hormone changes will usually prevent ovulation from occurring when you’re already pregnant. It’s unclear why that doesn’t always happen — in Hill’s case, it may have had something to do with the hormone treatments she had undergone to help her conceive. The bottom line is that a lot of special circumstances have to line up for superfetation to occur.

In a 1999 study of such a case, a woman underwent a superfetation pregnancy and ultimately delivered two healthy infants in what researchers deemed “an otherwise uneventful pregnancy.” Likewise, Hill and her husband had two healthy daughters.

Dr. Atlas told Time that such pregnancies shouldn’t be a cause for concern — in all likelihood, the second baby will be born slightly premature but still healthy.

As for the Hills, their daughters, Charlotte and Olivia, were safely delivered on the same day via Caesarean section despite initially having different due dates. “They are definitely little miracles,” Kate Hill told Today Tonight about her daughters, who are now 10 months old.

Though it’s unclear exactly how many cases of superfetation have been recorded throughout history, the fact remains that it’s super rare. Only about 10 cases have been recorded. Miracle babies indeed.

Outrage As Woman Calls Michelle Obama ‘Ape In Heels’

A racist Facebook post about Michelle Obama has caused a major controversy involving a town mayor in the US state of West Virginia.

Pamela Ramsey Taylor, who runs a local non-profit group in Clay County, referred to the first lady as an “ape”.

“It will be refreshing to have a classy, beautiful, dignified first lady in the White House. I’m tired of seeing a Ape in heels,” she said.

Local mayor Beverly Whaling responded with “just made my day Pam”.

Ms Whaling is mayor of the town of Clay, which has a population of just 491.

It has no African American residents, according to the 2010 census. In Clay County as a whole, more than 98% of its 9,000 residents are white.

Despite the small population in the region, the controversial Facebook post spread across United States and international media outlets, and a petition calling for both women to be terminated from their positions has collected more than 85,000 signatures.

The Washington Post and New York Daily News reported that Ms Taylor was removed from her position on Monday.

She told local news outlet WSAZ, which first carried the story, that she acknowledged her Facebook post could be “interpreted as racist, but in no way was intended to be”, and that she was expressing a personal opinion on attractiveness, not the colour of a person’s skin.

She told the news station she was considering legal action for slander against unnamed individuals.

The Clay County Development group, of which Ms Taylor is the director, is partly funded through state and federal grants, and the group provides services to elderly and low-income residents.

In a statement given to the Washington Post, Mayor Whaling said: “My comment was not intended to be racist at all” and apologised for the comment “getting out of hand.”

“I was referring to my day being made for change in the White House! I am truly sorry for any hard feeling this may have caused! Those who know me know that I’m not of any way racist!” she said.

Ilhan Omar, 34, has made history by becoming the first Somali legislator in the United States. A former refugee, the Somali-born activist has been elected to serve as an MP in the US state of Minnesota. The Muslim Somali-American woman becomes the highest-ranking Somali elected to office in the US.

Her election comes just days after US President-elect Donald Trump accused Somali immigrants in Minnesota of “spreading their extremist views”.

Minnesota has the nation’s largest Somali community – about 50,000 according to the US census.

Celebrating her victory, Ms Omar said she would be the “voice for the marginalised” in the state parliament.

“I think I bring the voice of young people. I think I bring the voice of women in the East African community. I bring the voice of Muslims. I bring the voice of young mothers looking for opportunities,” Minnesota Public Radio quoted her as saying.

Ms Omar escaped from Somalia with her family at the start of the civil war when she was eight years old.

They lived in a Kenyan refugee camp for four years, before moving to the US and settling in a Somali-American neighbourhood in Minnesota.

Police Arrests Woman For Stealing A Month Old Baby

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 30-year old woman, Peace Chukwuemeka, for stealing a month-old baby from her mother.

It was alleged that Chukwuemeka drugged the mother of the baby before stealing the child.

The state Police Commissioner, Mr. Murtala Mani, said this while speaking with journalists on the activities of the command in Uyo on Tuesday.

Mani, who spoke through the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Cordelia Nwawe, stated that the suspect lived in the same compound with the mother of the baby at Mbak Itam in Itu Local Government Area.

He added that the family unit of the command, acting on intelligence, rescued the baby and handed it over to the mother.

“Let us say clearly that in the month of November, the Acid Section through the Family Unit of the Nigeria Police Force in Akwa Ibom was able to record a great feat by bringing back a one-month-and-some-few-days-old baby to her mother in Akwa Ibom.

“The suspected woman, who has been married for some years without giving birth to a baby, left Lagos State for Uyo, stayed in a compound in Mbak Itam with the intention to steal a baby from her neighbour.

“The Family Unit of the command, through intelligence report, was able to rescue the baby,” Mani said.

Mani added that the police also rescued a four-year-old boy from a young man, who snatched him from his mother at gun point.

Confessing to the crime, Peace Chukwuemeka, said she had married for 10 years without giving birth to a child and had been desperate to have a baby.

She, however, denied drugging the mother of the baby.

“I did not give anything to the mother; it was a coincidence that she was asleep and seized that opportunity to take the baby.

“I have been married for 10 years now, so I need a baby of my own. I took the baby to my mother in the village but she refused to collect her from me. I came back to Akwa Ibom and the mother of the baby started asking me of her baby and I was arrested,” Chukwuemeka confessed.

Woman bathed with acid after accepting lover’s proposal

A 25-year-old woman, Ogochukwu Nwosu, is in a critical condition at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, Surulere, Lagos State, after she was bathed with substance suspected to be acid.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Ogochukwu was at Ilasa bus stop, on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, when a man allegedly dropped from a motorcycle and poured acid on her.

He was said to have jumped back on the motorcycle and fled the scene.

The victim, who sustained burns on her face, neck, breasts, among other parts of her body, was reportedly rushed to LUTH by passersby.

Ogochukwu, who spoke with our correspondent from her hospital bed, accused one Mrs. Chidi, the wife of the man who had proposed marriage to her, as the culprit.

She alleged that Mrs. Chidi had been threatening her on the telephone and through text messages immediately she learnt of her husband’s intention to marry her (Ogochukwu).

She said she had turned down Mr. Chidi’s proposal because he was married, adding that the latter persisted.

“On Thursday, I had closed from Computer Village where I work. Around 8pm, when I reached Ilasa bus stop, I dropped off the bus.

“I was about to cross to the other side of the road when a man dropped from a motorcycle and poured something on me. He immediately fled on the motorcycle. People came to my rescue and took me to the hospital.

“I suspect Mrs. Chidi because she had been threatening me before the incident. And while I was on admission at the hospital, she called and spoke with my brother, saying that was just the beginning,” she added.

Ogochukwu’s brother, Peter, said he recorded a part of the conversation with Mrs. Chidi on his mobile phone.

Peter said he reported the incident at the Itire Police Division, adding that Mrs. Chidi was arrested and detained for two days before the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.

Our correspondent, however, gathered that the police admitted the suspect to bail shortly after the matter got to the SCIID.

PUNCH Metro learnt that counsel to the victim, Louis Nwaugbala and Anthony Obi, had already petitioned the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Headquarters, Abuja, over the matter.

A copy of the petition, obtained by our correspondent, read in part, “Sometime in 2012, one Mr. Chidi approached our client and started making advances to her and promised to marry her. But she vehemently refused the proposal. She told him that she was not interested in the marriage since he was already married.

“Upon Mr. Chidi’s insistence of wanting to marry our client and even making preparations to visit our client’s family to formalise the marriage rites, our client advised Mr. Chidi to inform his wife of his plans to take our client as his second wife, since both of them will be cohabiting in the same house.

“Immediately Mr. Chidi made his plans known to his wife, all hell broke loose as Mrs. Chidi started calling and persistently threatening our client’s life through phone calls, text and Whatsapp messages.”

The petition alleged that the suspect threatened to wreak havoc before December 2016, the purported month of the traditional marriage between Mr. Chidi and Ogochukwu.

It added that Ogochukwu was persuaded against reporting the threat to the police by Mr. Chidi, who allegedly promised to persuade his wife to accept the union.

It said tragedy struck when the victim was attacked while she was returning from work on Thursday, October 6, 2016.

Nwaugbala, the victim’s lawyer, said justice must be served in the case, adding that Ogochukwu must be flown abroad for plastic surgery by the suspect and her husband.

“That is the only thing that can assuage the damage presently done to her. She should be flown abroad for treatment,” he added.

When contacted, Mr. Chidi declined comment, referring our correspondent to the police at the SCIID.

He said, “I cannot speak with you, neither can my wife. The case is under investigation at the SCIID. Go and speak with the police at Panti; they are the ones investigating it. We cannot make any comment.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident.

She explained that Mrs. Chidi was released on bail because she could not be directly linked to the attack.

She said, “It was reported that the victim was bathed with acid by two men on a motorcycle. The victim alleged that she suspected the woman because she (the victim) is a girlfriend to Mr. Chidi and because she (victim) might likely marry the man, Mrs. Chidi might have planned the attack.

“Mrs. Chidi was picked up, made to undergo investigation and the command could not get any clue linking her to the case for now. And to protect her right, she was granted bail. Investigation is still ongoing to unravel what actually happened. Anyone linked to the case will be duly prosecuted.”

Release of killers of Igbo woman in Kano provocative – HURIWA

Branding it “a primitive attempt to stoke up inter-ethnic conflict”, the Pro-democracy Non-Governmental Organization, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, has condemned the Kano State Government for nullifying the prosecution of the suspected killers of Bridget Agbahime, the 74-year-old Igbo woman in Kano State.

The group’s position was made known in a statement made available to the media in Abuja by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, and the National Director of Media, Zainab Yusuf.

HURIWA also totally condemned the Nigeria Police Force, Kano State Command for colluding to bungle the prosecution of the suspected killers of Agbahime, who was killed in the presence of armed policemen by Islamic zealots for alleged blasphemy.

HURIWA said the “illogical, unconstitutional and compromised decision of the Kano State Attorney General to terminate the prosecution amounted to directly rewarding the riotous and unruly armed street urchins who allegedly decapitated this innocent Igbo woman only because she is of a different ethno-religious affiliation but doing legitimate trading business in Kano State”.

Citing Section 14(2) (b) of the Nigerian Constitution, which specifies that “the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government”, the Rights group has therefore asked both the Governor of Kano State, Dr. Ibrahim Ganduje, and President Muhammadu Buhari to direct the Commissioner of Police in Kano State and the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Kpodum Idris, “to rapidly refile the matter in a proper court system so that the killers of this Nigerian citizen are charged and punished for the unprovoked murder of this innocent Igbo woman in Kano State”.

The Rights group warned that the refusal of government of Kano and the Nigerian State to punish the killers promptly could spark off inter-ethnic and inter-religious uprising and reprisals since the person murdered was a human being with blood flowing in her veins before her precious life was terminated by unchained brutes in Kano State who are now offered Kano State Government’s reward for this gruesome hate crime.

Besides, HURIWA has tasked the national leadership of both the Christian Association of Nigeria and the Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, to mount coordinated pressures to compel both the Kano State and Federal Government to stop this clear injustice about to be perpetrated against the family of the assassinated Agbahime who was murdered in broad daylight by armed Islamic fanatics on the streets of Kano State.

The statement said: “We are by this statement to the media challenging the political leaders of the South East and specifically the governor of Imo State Mr. Rochas Okorocha to wake up from slumber and seek for redress for the family of this Imo State woman killed in Kano State by street urchins in the full glare of the police.”

On Thursday, a Kano State Magistrate Court presided over by Jibrin Muhammad freed five suspected killers of Agbahime.

The 74-year-old trader was killed at Kofar Wambai Market for alleged blasphemy.

Muhammad’s decision was based on the directive of the Kano State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.

The freed suspects – Dauda Ahmed, Abdulmumeen Mustafa, Zubairu Abubakar, Abdullahi Abubakar and Musa Abdullahi – were charged with a four-count charge of allegedly inciting disturbance, culpable homicide, joint act and mischief.

The woman, who hailed from Imo State, was murdered on June 2, 2016 at Kofar Wambai Market over alleged blasphemy.

In his submission earlier, the state counsel, Rabiu Yusuf, who represented the attorney-general of the state, told the court that they have no case against the suspects.

Yusuf said: “The legal advice presented to the court, dated June 24, states that there is no case to answer as the suspects are all innocent, and orders the court to discharge all the suspects.”

Sharia Police Nab Woman Who Dumped Newborn

For dumping her new baby boy on a refuse dump, a middle aged woman is now cooling her heels in Police custody in Jigawa.

Malam Sa’idu Aliyu, the State Commandant of the Jigawa Hisbah Guards, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Dutse that the suspect (names withheld) was arrested by the guards on October 29.

NAN reports that Hisbah is the Sharia Law enforcement agency in the state.

According to Aliyu, the suspect is a resident of Bulakalu Village in Dutse Local Government Area.

He said that the woman dumped the baby in Shuwarin Village in Kiyawa Local Government Area of the state.

The commandant said that the baby was picked by a `good Samaritan’, who took him to the district head of the community and later reported the incident to the police.

According to Aliyu, upon receiving the report, Hisbah deployed its intelligence officers to the two local government areas to fish out the mother of the baby.

Aliyu told NAN that the guards eventually got an intelligence report that a woman in Bulakalu Village gave birth to the baby.

“The residents said they had not been seeing the suspect with her baby.

“We invited the suspect to our office where she confessed to being the mother of the boy.

“She also confirmed that she was the one who personally dumped the baby, because of fear of stigmatisation for giving birth out of wedlock,’’ he said.

Aliyu said that the baby was in good health and in the custody of a woman in Shuwarin Village, pending the conclusion of investigations into the case.

He said the suspect had been handed over to the Police for further action.

A transgender Muslim woman has been hacked to death in Russia days after marrying a man after her father pleaded on television: ‘Bring him here and kill him in front of my eyes’.

Adam Aliev became Raina after a sex change operation in Moscow, and was killed several days after a ‘wedding’ to a man called Viktor.

The killing took place after the 25-year-old’s father Alimshaikh Aliev had told a TV station: ‘Let him be killed, I don’t want to see him. Bring him here and kill him in front of my eyes.’

The victim was from an ethnic Chechen family living in Dagestan, a Muslim region between the Caspian Sea and Chechnya in the Russian Trans-Caucasus, it was reported.

Following sex change surgery in Moscow around a month ago, a wedding ceremony was held and the murder took place several days later, according to reports.

The circumstances of the killing have not been disclosed.

‘He was hated for his non-traditional sexual orientation and when he changed his sex he was damned and received threats,’ stated Ren TV.

‘The young man decided to change his sex because he wanted to marry the man he loved, Viktor from Karachaevo-Cherkessiya (another mainly Muslim region in southern Russia).’

The wedding ‘shocked’ locals, reported Russian Dialog news site.

A female neighbour said the victim’s father ‘had a stroke’ when he discovered about the sex change and wedding and issued a ‘purman’, inviting people to kill Raina.

‘He cheated them, he went there to Moscow, had surgery and he turned from a boy to a girl,’ said the neighbour.

The mother was reported to be ‘crying day and night’ over the operation and alleged wedding.

A Dagestan Mufti was quoted by KP newspaper saying: ‘Changing sex is totally forbidden, because it means that a man will be a woman.

‘It is totally forbidden in Islam. Changing sex is a protest against Allah.

‘Such surgery can be performed only in one case: when a person was born as a hermaphrodite and must decided what sex he wants to belong.

‘If a person changed his sex for another reason, he is damned, along with the surgeon who performed it.’

The surgery included breast implants the removal of the penis, it was claimed.

Deputy head of the village administration Abdutagur Israpilov said: ‘I knew Adam. He liked to put on tight leggings, his manners were feminine, even his voice was like a girl’s.

‘He finished school and went to live in Makhachkala (regional capital), and then Moscow, where he worked in nightclubs and made good money.

‘I don’t blame him (for the sex change). His feminine nature had won, so he decided to correct the mistake.

‘I heard that Adam changed his sex and married a man from Kabardino-Balkariya.’

Israpilov said: ‘He received threats. He appealed to police and a local policeman visited our administration because of it, and also a man from prosecutor’s office came.

‘Every second man in the Caucasus wanted to kill him. According to our traditions, it is just a disgrace for his family, it is a dirt on the whole Caucasus.

‘This surgery came as a shock for his mother, she is not talking to anybody now. His father got a stroke.

‘Adam wrote a letter to his friend and said he was angry about his relatives.

‘He said: ‘When they asked me for help, I sent them money, but they betrayed me when they got to know about the surgery’.

The village official said: ‘I did not recognise Adam’s cut-up body when it was brought to the village.’

COAS Orders Investigation Of Woman Murdered 6 Months Ago

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, has ordered an investigation, commencing monday into the alleged murder of Mrs. Alice Akparobi, and the shooting of one Shedrack Saduwa in the stomach at Effurun in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State six months ago.

The army boss gave the directive in response to the May 16, 2016 petition by lawyer and rights activist, Oghenejabor Ikimi to the Nigerian Army through the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) demanding that the matter be investigated to let justice prevail.

It was learnt that the COAS order for inquiry was directed to the Army Special Investigation Bureau and communicated in an October 7 letter through the Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police to Ikimi on behalf of Isaac Akparobi, relative to late Mrs. Akparobi and seriously injured Saduwa.

The military police’s letter to Ikimi, signed by Col. K C Okoro, Commander of the Special Investigation Bureau, requested the lawyer to avail his clients, Isaac and Saduwa to the bureau for interview.

“The interview is necessary to have further insight into your petition. Your client are also requested to come with all relevant, and where necessary, duly certified documents in support of the petition,” the letter further stated.

Woman Kills Self After Court Clears Step-father Of Repeated Rape

A 22-year-old woman killed herself after her step-father was cleared of repeatedly raping her, an inquest heard.

Juliet Crew left a note behind stating that she felt she had been let down by the legal system.

Her 60-year-old step-father, Nigel Parkin, who is a church organist was found not guilty in 2012 of sexually abusing her for seven years from the age of nine.

Juliet mother found her hung in the hall of her home in Taunton, Somerset, in August last year.

She had told the court Parkin sexually touched and raped her at least ten times.

Her step-father was cleared after he said Juliet and another alleged victim were both suffering from mental health problems.

According to Taunton Coroners Court, the result of the proceedings took a severe toll on the mental health of Juliet, she dropped to six and a half stone, self-harmed and even overdosed on medication.

The note she left behind said,”The judicial system in this country, especially for victims of sexual offences, is disgusting.

“There is no justice. It only confirmed that I cannot trust people. I do not want to live in a world where there is no justice.”

‘Banker Hires Assassins to Kill Her ex-Husband in Lagos’

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected hired-assassins and a female banker over failed attempt to assassinate her ex-husband identified as Tochukwu Onyebuchi.

The state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu paraded the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Abeokuta on Wednesday.

He said the banker, Oluchi Tochukwu, hired the suspected criminals to assassinate her husband in his residence at Ayobo area of Lagos State.

Iliyasu named the two suspected assassins as Chigozie Smart (32) and Kingsley Ikechukwu (36).

He said they were intercepted and arrested on Oct. 19 at Ijebu-Ode while attempting to escape to Onitsha with the victim’s Range Rover Jeep.

He said Oluchi was arrested at Ayobo area of Lagos State.

He said, “One Oluchi, a 32-year-old banker, who is married to one Tochukwu Onyebuchi years ago, got separated from her husband following some matrimonial problems.

“The custody of their only child is currently being contested in the court but Oluchi has another plan.

“She connived with the trio of Chigozie Smart, Kingsley Ikechukwy and one other who is now at large to eliminate her husband.

“She arranged for the weapons which includes cutlass, iron rods and acid which she kept in her husband’s compound at Ayobo area of Lagos State and described where she kept it to the assailants.

“The suspects went there on Wednesday as planned and matcheted the man severally on his head and poured the acid on him.

“The suspects thereafter abandoned the victim and took away his range Rover Jeep which Oluchi instructed them to drop at her brother’s place in Onitsha, Anambra State.

“Luck ran against them when a patrol team of the Ogun State command on Wednesday sighted the vehicle along the Ijebu-Ode/Benin expressway and stopped it for search.

“While searching the vehicle, blood stain was seen and the two occupants were unable to give satisfactory account of the blood stain, hence, they were arrested.

“It was during interrogation that the suspects revealed all that transpired to the police.”

The commissioner said that the victim, who had been treated at an undisclosed hospital, was in the custody of the police helping them in the process of investigation.

Oluchi, however, denied contracting the duo of Chigozie and Kingsley and one other at large to assassinate her husband.

Oluchi, who acknowledged that her three-year-old marriage to her husband had crashed, told journalists that she had no reason to kill him.

Meanwhile, Chigozie told newsmen that it was Oluchi who hired them to kill her husband with a promise to purchase “Tokunbo” cars for each of them after a successful operation.

A Georgia woman knew she was going to have a laborious evening at the hospital when she doubled over in pain with what she thought was a kidney stone — but that pain turned out to be a baby.

When Stephanie Jaegers called her husband, Michael, and told him she had to go to the hospital Tuesday, she was hoping doctors would perform a CAT-scan and find out what was causing her agony.

Instead, they performed an ultrasound — and told her she was about to have a bundle of joy.

“There are no words to describe the range of feelings associated with being told that you’re having a baby — in 30 minutes,” Jaegers’ husband, Michael, told WXIA Atlanta.

“It wasn’t until we heard the heartbeat that reality set in,” the proud papa said.

Stephanie, already a mother of three, had shown no signs of pregnancy prior to the pain, and even continued having her period over the last nine months.

She was also told she was premenopausal and could not have any more kids after she had a blood transfusion following the birth of her 2-year-old daughter.

But at 3:50 a.m. Wednesday at Piedmont Henry Hospital, the parents welcomed a healthy baby boy named Shaun, who weighed in at 7 pounds, 3 ounces.

“I went from Googling kidney-stone treatments to a panic attack over the fact that not only were we pregnant, but the baby was coming within the hour,” Michael said. “Most parents have a good nine months to plan for such a blessing.”

Michael also wrote a Facebook post to share the news and explain how the couple went through the pregnancy without knowing a baby was coming.

“Shaun was also breech throughout the entire pregnancy, which prevented him from moving around to indicate to Steph that he was in there, and his position made it to where Steph didn’t ‘show,’?” he wrote.

The seasoned parents hadn’t gotten rid of all their baby gear yet and found a car seat and some clothes stored in their attic.

35-Year Old Dies A Month To Wedding As Family Blames Fiance

A 35-year-old woman, Loretta Ewere, has been electrocuted at her fiance’s home on Ajoke Kazeem Street in the Idimu area of Lagos State.

Punch Metro learnt that Ewere’s fiancé, Segun Tolani, was fixing an electrical fault when the incident happened.

She was said to have been rushed to a private hospital in the area but was rejected before being confirmed dead at the Igando General Hospital.

A Punch correspondent, who visited the area on Tuesday, gathered that Ewere and Tolani had
scheduled their wedding for November and preparation was in top gear when tragedy struck.

A resident, who did not want to be identified, said the incident happened around 1pm on Saturday, adding that it created chaos in the neighbourhood.

He said, “The man had wanted to change his old cable TV decoder and antenna. When power was restored, he discovered that he didn’t have electricity in his house.

“He wanted to do it himself, but neighbours advised him to get the service of an electrician. He contacted an electrician who billed him N2,500. But he said the charge was too high. He decided to go and rent a wooden ladder from someone in the area.

“He mounted the ladder on the wall and called the lady from inside the room to assist him in holding the ladder. She held the ladder with one hand and held an iron pole beside the room with the other hand.

“While he was working, the wire fell and touched the pole she was holding and that was how she was electrocuted.”

Punch Metro learnt that Tolani called for help from a next-door neighbour, whose wife reportedly rushed to the scene to pull out the victim with her bare hands.

She was reportedly flung by the electric current.

An electrician was said to have been invited, who then disconnected the power.

“The woman fell down and hit her head against the concrete floor. People tried to resuscitate her by giving her milk; but she didn’t come round. A lot of time had been wasted. She was rushed to a private hospital in the area, but she was rejected.

“We took her to the general hospital, where she was confirmed dead. Her corpse was deposited in a mortuary,” another resident said.

Punch Metro gathered that Ewere, an indigene of Ewuru, Delta State, worked in Union Diagnostics, a medical lab in Ikeja, while Tolani, who hails from Ekiti State, worked with an insurance company.

When our correspondent visited the victim’s family house on Ogidan Street, Idimu, they said the family was too distraught to talk about the incident.

However, a relative, who identified himself simply as Charles, blamed the incident on Tolani’s stinginess.

He explained that the duo had been living together for the past four years, adding that the two families had started preparation for their wedding.

He said, “They did their introduction four years ago and since then, they had been staying together. Their marriage was slated for November and the two families have bought clothes and sent invitation to people.

“Around 1pm of the day that she died, she called one of her friends that she would be going to shop for the wedding, not knowing that she would die that day.

“It was the man’s stinginess that killed her. If he had paid someone to fix the electrical fault, this would not have happened.”

Meanwhile, friends of the victim have started paying tributes to her on the social media.

One of them, Kehinde, wrote on Facebook, “Loretta (Ewere), a member of the Purchasing and Supply Students Association, The Polytechnic Ibadan, was kind-hearted, brilliant and reserved. The industrious lady was preparing for her last two exams (slated for October 4 and 6) left for her to become a graduate when she died. We love you, but God loves you most. I pray He accepts your soul and comforts your household.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident.

She said the corpse had been deposited in a mortuary for autopsy.

She said, “The woman, Loretta Ewere, was electrocuted around 9am. She was living with one Segun Tolani, to whom she was supposed to be married next month. They were fixing a GoTV antenna when power was suddenly restored. Ewere, who was holding the antenna wire, was electrocuted. The corpse has been deposited in a mortuary for a post-mortem examination.”

Sympathisers Rescue Baby from Suspected Mad Mother’s Attack in Abakaliki

Sympathisers on Sunday rescued a baby of about nine months old from his suspected mad mother as she beat him repeatedly on request for food.

The incident occurred on a roadside in Ugwuachara, an outskirts of Abakaliki. The child’s uncontrollable cry attracted sympathisers.

The suspected lunatic had eaten all the food given to her by individuals without giving the baby boy.

mother to prevent bodily injuries on him.

“We later took the child to Reverend Father Abraham Nwali, the Ebonyi Governor’s Senior Special Adviser on Religion and Welfare Matters, at the Catholic Bishop’s Court Abakaliki.

“The wailing of the child further attracted the sympathy of Reverend Sister Cecilia Chukwu, Executive Director of Succour and Development Initiative, Abakaliki.

“She directed her assistant to give the child warm bath, food, clothing and other immediate needs,” he said.

According to PMNews, Nwali while receiving the baby, had inquired of the mental status of the woman to avoid insinuations of kidnapping or child trafficking.

“The people who brought the child to this place should bring the woman to be examined medically and offered medical treatment,” Nwali said.

Nwali later followed the sympathizers to the scene and met the woman sleeping.
He then directed a psychiatric nurse to wake and give her food and water.

After eating, the suspected lunatic was taken to a hospital where she is currently undergoing medical treatment.

Later, the child was returned to her for breastfeeding under the watchful eyes of the hospital’s authorities.

Begging Is Lucrative, Woman Who Withdrew Her Son From School Tells Task Force

A mother of six, arrested by operatives of Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit Task Force for using her 11-year-old son to beg, while pretending to be victims of a fire incident, did not show any sign of remorse, saying begging was a lucrative business.

The suspect, identified as Chinagoro Uwenke, 40, was arrested yesterday in Oshodi area of Lagos. Uwenke was always seen in the company of her son, whose leg was usually in bandage, discovered to be stained with liquid, which several people believed was pus from untreated burns.

Luck, however, ran against them after operatives of the task force demanded to know the magnitude of the purported injury on the lad. When the bandages were removed, it was discovered to the astonishment of all that the boy had no injury at all. Both mother and son were then whisked away.

Preliminary investigation showed that the suspect had been engaged in the alms begging business for five years. She revealed, during interrogation, that she made between N3,500 and N5000 daily.

How ‘doctor’ duped woman of N66.9m – EFCC

Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, has remanded a self-styled doctor, Innocent Chukwu and a woman, Mrs. Obiageli Anachebe, who allegedly defrauded a businesswoman of a total sum of N66,900,000.00.

Justice Ipaye made the order following the defendants’ not guilty plea and adjourned till October 14, for hearing of their bail applications.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Chukwu, alias Dr. Ohamadike, and Anachebe on a five-count charge with No. ID/1332C/2015, bordering on conspiracy to obtain money by false pretences, stealing by fraudulent conversion and concealment of deed.

It said the defendants, with intent to defraud, obtained N50,000,000.00 from a businesswoman, Mrs. Vivian Amadi, “under the false pretence that they were capable of solving all her problems by spiritual means,” knowing the representation to be false.

The Commission also alleged that Chukwu dishonestly obtained and concealed title documents of a building situated at No. 4, Nteje Street, New Haven, Enugu, valued at N35, 000,000.00 property of Amadike.

The anti-graft agency, represented by its counsel, Mr. Kunle Fayanju, said both alleged offences were committed between October and December 2013, in Lagos.

It added that Chukwu, on or about February 14, 2014, dishonestly converted the sum of N16, 900,000.00 property of Amadike and Pamela Ihediwa of Bluebeam Capital Ltd, Lagos.

Chukwu, the Commission said, obtained the sum by claiming to have for sale, a United States dollar equivalent of the N16.9m “which representation he knew to be false and dishonest.”

According to the Commission, the offences contravened Section 8(a) and 1(3) of the Advanced Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act No. 14 of 2006 and Sections 285(9)(c) and 288 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Woman Dies Of Cancer One Day Before Her Wedding

A month after being given three years to live, Swabey joined Tinder, where she met Andy Bell. She told Marie Claire she disclosed she was going to die to Bell up front, knowing that it meant she was doomed to “break his heart.” She figured that would be the end of it; it wasn’t. They fell for each other, and Bell stayed by Swabey’s side through 12 rounds of chemo, according to Us Weekly. They even managed to have a normal relationship. “We still bicker over whose turn it is to wash the dishes,” Swabey told Marie Claire. “We just make up quickly.”

After 10 months of dating, Bell proposed to Swabey last December. “I cried and asked if he was sure—if we went ahead, he’d be a widower before he was 30,” she said. “He said that he’d rather be married to me for a few years than not at all.” They scheduled their wedding for Sept. 17, and Bell said he couldn’t wait to introduce Swabey as his wife. He never got that chance. Swabey died peacefully early Friday. “Amongst our sadness, we are so proud of her courage, her spirit and the determination she showed throughout her illness,” Swabey’s family posted to Facebook. Before her death, Swabey chronicled her battle with cancer on her blog and helped raise nearly $100,000 for brain tumor research.

Lady Battered By Aunt’s Husband Wants Justice

A woman, Latifat Adeyemi, who was allegedly battered by her uncle-in-law, Rasak Alabi, at Aga, Ikorodu, has cried out for justice.

Last Friday Alabi allegedly hit the victim with a spanner on her head and face. The picture of the injured woman went viral on social media after a family friend Francis Ibirinde shared it on his Facebook wall.

In a telephone interview with a Nation Correspondent, Adeyemi said her aunt’s husband attacked her at their 3, Ile-Ewe, Sholebo family residence at Aga, Ikorodu.

The makeup artist explained that trouble started after she got home on Friday night and discovered
that the Air Conditioner in her room has been removed.

“I was surprised and angry that the AC in my room at our family house was removed by my aunt’s husband. His wife stays abroad. The house belongs to my grandparents but because his wife renovated it, he has been staying there ever since they resolved their marital problems.

“So, that day I got back from work and realised that my AC has been removed. I was angry. I picked my phone and called my sister, telling her that I have had it. That I don’t think I can continue staying in the house. I was still outside talking to my sister on phone, when the man from nowhere, hit me with spanner from behind.

“He said I was making noise. That was how he continued hitting me with the iron. I was bleeding but he didn’t care. When he was satisfied, he went inside.

“I had to call my parents and uncles before going to Ebute Police Sation to make an entry. At the station, the policemen asked me to go to the hospital and treat myself first that I was bleeding seriously. But I didn’t go straight to the hospital. I went back to the house to provoke the man so that he can come out but he did not. Then, I left for the hospital,” she said.

Continuing, Adeyemi said policemen later went there to invite him for questioning but he refused to answer them. Rather, she said, the man went to Igbogbo police station to make another entry and took some men to her uncle’s house to arrest him.

“He took vigilante members (Onyabo) to my uncle’s place because my uncle was against him. But when the vigilante boys took my uncle away, some people who knew him quickly contacted their boss and told him what happened. My uncle was released. But he went and got policemen from another station to arrest him, despite that our case was already at Ebute police station. My uncle was arrested and detained at the station till the following morning when other family members came.

“I was on admission at the hospital and they had a family meeting and he said it was temptation. My bill was over N70,000. I was told he came to the hospital and paid the bills but he never bothered to check on me to see what he caused. Even the doctors told him to visit me and apologise but he refused. They said he paid the bill and left.

“His wife too has not bothered to call me to find out what happened. I really cannot say if there was any problem between us. I don’t know. But the action was very surprising and I don’t think I want him to go free after what he did to me.”

The victim who was at the Public Advice Centre (PAC), Ministry of Justice, Alausa on Friday, said she was determined to get justice for the unprovoked attack on her.

She said: “The man has refused me access to get my things. My clothes and other belongings are still inside the house. For three days after the assault, I wore the same dress. I want justice. The police have not been able to arrest him, I don’t know why. So, I have gone to the Ministry of Justice so that the government can look into the matter.”

Man Reportedly Abandons Wife in Hospital Over Unpaid N520,000 Bill

A mother of seven, Uzoamaka Onu, 39, has been abandoned by her husband at the New Mayor Hospital and Fertility Centre, Nkpor in Anambra over a bill of N520,000.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the woman had stayed in the hospital for four months following the non-payment of the bill.

Uzoamaka, a food vendor from Okpoto community in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi, told NAN that the husband had absconded and abandoned her to her fate.

She said that she had lived in the hospital for four months and every attempt to reach her husband had failed.

“My husband stopped visiting the hospital after I successfully underwent a surgery on my right breast,” Uzoamaka said.

She said she did not blame her husband for absconding because he had suffered a lot since 2013 when signs of cancer started manifesting.

“My husband sells rat poison and cannot afford the money to pay the balance and I think that is why he has run away. I am appealing to good spirited Nigerians to come to my aid and help me to get back home.

My problem started in 2013 when I started experiencing excruciating pain in my body, specifically in my lungs. I started visiting patent medicine stores for solution, but unfortunately that compounded my problems.

However, it was on the advice of some friends and family members that I decided to visit General Hospital, Abakiliki where I was diagnosed with breast cancer,” Uzoamaka said.

She said she had visited the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Enugu and Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for solution.

Uzoamaka said that she also went to the New Mayor Hospital and Fertility Centre where she had a successful surgery, leading to outright removal of her right breast.

She said that N750,000 was the total amount by the hospital management for the surgery, with her family paying N230,000, leaving the outstanding balance.

The Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Ben Ossai, confirmed the incident, describing Uzoamaka’s case as pathetic.

Ossai said that the woman’s right breast was in a deteriorating state and was emitting offensive odour due to the devastation the ailment had caused.

“We decided to perform a surgery on her to remove the affected breast,” he said.

Ossai said that Uzoamaka underwent a successful surgery and had long been discharged pending when her family would pay the balance of her medical bill.

“But for four months now, her husband has not visited and we suspected he has absconded,’’ he said.

Doctor Exposes Woman Who Faked Pregnancy For 9 Months In Ilorin

The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Yusjib Industrial Medicare, Ilorin, Dr Yusuf Abdulraheem, says he has discovered a young lady that has been faking pregnancy for close to nine months. Abdulraheem told newsmen on Tuesday in Ilorin that he discovered that the lady used clothing as a disguise for the pregnancy by stuffing them under her normal clothes to make her appear pregnant.

According to the doctor, he made the discovery while trying to examine the lady who is in her early twenties. He said that the lady identified herself as Azeezat Abubakar.

The CMD said that the lady who was brought to the hospital for delivery, identified herself as

Azeezat Abubakar. He added that he became suspicious when she refused to be examined.

“She has been using my hospital name to claim money at home, telling her family she is doing her ante-natal in Yusjib. When her family brought her, I noticed that i had never seen her face before, but for the benefit of doubt, I told her to remove her folder which she could not locate.

“In the absence of one, I opened a new folder for her; I requested she come to the couch for examination only for her to be squatting. “It was her mother-in-law who forced her to the couch and as I tried to examine her tommy, I discovered it was clothes she padded there’’, Abdulraheem said.

The doctor condemned the incident and urged mothers to monitor their young girls closely. He also wondered why the mother-in-law did not discover the fake pregnancy for close to nine months.

Pretty Young Bearded Woman Enters Guinness Book of World Records

Harnaam Kaur has entered the Guinness Book of Records as the youngest female with a full beard that measures an impressive six inches.

Body positivity campaigner Kaur of Slough, Berkshire, says her place in GWR is “absolutely humbling” as her beard has been part of her quest to overcame years of bullying to cope with her appearance.

She has polycystic ovary syndrome, a hormonal condition that causes her to grow excess facial hair.

Ms Kaur, who is recorded as the youngest female with a full beard at the age of 24 years 282 days, has already made her mark as anti-bullying activist and catwalk model.

A delighted Kaur said on social media:

Stockbroker Accused Of Raping Woman Claims She Only Started Crying Because His ‘Penis’ Was So Large

A stockbroker accused of raping a woman after a cocaine fuelled night out insisted today the woman only started crying because his penis is so big.

Daniel Green, 26, claims he has a ten inch member with a four inch girth and has often had problems having sex in the past.

He allegedly attacked the 29-year-old after a night out in the City.

Green and his colleagues brought the alleged victim and her friend back to their StratX headquarters on the fourth floor of an office block near Monument for a wild bash.
But she crawled under a desk for a sleep until she was able to catch the first train home because she did not have enough money for a cab, the Old Bailey heard.

Green said he had ended up in the empty office because he had been looking for a place to charge his phone.

The stockbroker said he and the alleged victim complained about a friend who had ‘ruined the evening’ by claiming her cocaine had been stolen when in reality she just did not want to share.

He said they had consensual sex but she started crying because his 10? penis – which he claims is 4? in circumference – was just too large.

“She was touching me, she unbuttoned my shirt and she was touching me, also we were still kissing,” he said.

He claimed they had taken off all their clothes and were lying under a desk in the ‘spoons’ position when he tried to enter her.

“I’m kissing her neck, she’s putting her arm around me and at which point I tried to penetrate her with my penis.

“A which stage she rolled back, and at that point I saw a tear in on her face so I jumped back and I said ‘Oh f*** are you crying?’.

“I thought my penis was hurting her. I always have difficulty when it comes to having sex with girls, I find my penis is hard to penetrate females unless there is lube readily available.

“The last relationship I had we didn’t have sex a lot, if we did manage to do it would cause her pain and we wouldn’t be able to have sex for a few weeks.”

When asked how large his penis was he said it was 10? long and 4? in circumference.

Green made a ring with his fingers as he estimated his girth to the jury.

“I tried to penetrate her twice,” he said.

“She said: ‘Can you leave? Just leave, just go’.”

He said he grabbed his clothes and fled the office and that the whole incident had taken less than two or three minutes.

Green said that earlier in the evening while in a club he had asked the complainant if she was okay, saying ‘that’s just the kind of guy I am’.

In her evidence, the victim said: “I absolutely didn’t consent to sex with Daniel, it was rape and I was trying to get away.

“I didn’t shout out for someone to come and help me, my focus was in trying to get away.”

She estimated the whole incident lasted about a minute-and-a-half, and said Green had been making sexual noises during that time.

Prosecutor Timothy Forster told how the alleged victim and her friend were out in the City on Friday 15 May last year.

They met up with Green, who had been working for StratX for only a week, and his colleagues at a bar in the City.

The group had all been drinking and taking cocaine.

The alleged victim said she had drunk three glasses of red wine, taken three pinches of cocaine and one line of cocaine while out in the City.

In the early hours of Saturday morning one of the revellers suggested they should continue the party back at the StratX office, in Abchurch Lane, where the group continued drinking, taking cocaine and listening to music.

Jurors heard the complainant did not have her bank card or enough money for a cab and had decided to rest until she could catch the first train home. Laying in the foetal position under a desk when she felt Green grabbing at her legs before ripping off her trousers and knickers.

After the alleged attack, the complainant phoned a friend, who in turn called police.

But when officers arrived, Green had gone and was later tracked down at his home nearby.

Jurors heard he gave a prepared statement denying the alleged rape and made a similar statement in November last year.

Green, of Walthamstow, east London, denies a single charge of rape on May 16 last year.

The trial continues.

A furious girlfriend got revenge on her ex boyfriend by torching his car – but she didn’t realise she got the wrong vehicle.

CCTV shows a woman dressed in shorts and a t-shirt shoving pieces of paper into the boot of a Honda and setting it on fire .

As the fire rages, the woman casually walks away.

But police believe she got the wrong car – as the owner of the Honda, Thomas Jennings, said he has no idea who the woman is.

Jennings’s roommate was the first to spot the vehicle on fire and alerted his pal.

The pair then rushed out with pots of water in an attempt to put out the fire, but Jennings told ABC Action News it was “too much.” The woman was also spotted on separate CCTV footage earlier that day looking into another vehicle.

Carmen Chamblee, 19, was arrested Saturday morning near Clearwater in Florida and charged with second-degree arson.

Chamblee told police she believed the vehicle belonged to her ex boyfriend.

She was scheduled to appear in front of a judge.

After being hitched to her spouse, Scott Mansfield, for 17 years, she made the critical decision to enter into a year-long open marriage so that she could experience life (and by life we mean sex) with other people.

Woman Bites Off Friend’s Eyelid In Lagos

A 24-year-old woman, Angela Job, who allegedly bit off her friend’s eyelid during a fight, has appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos. Standing trial on assault occasioning grievous harm charge, the accused entered a `not guilty’ plea.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. Ben Ekundayo, the accused had on Aug. 19 at about 6.30 p.m. at Papa Bus Stop, Badore Road in Ajah on the Lekki-Epe Expressway, bit off the eyelid of the complainant, Uche Anyanwu. He said Angela bit off Anyanwu’s eyelid when she asked the accused to pay the money owed her.

“A fight ensued when Anyanwu asked for the money and the accused bit off the eyelid, causing him grievous harm,” he said.

The offence contravened Section 243 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. In his ruling, Magistrate Ade Adefulire, granted the accused a N200, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum. Further hearing has been fixed for Sept. 29.

Woman Jailed For Allegedly Stabbing Her Husband To Death In Ibadan

An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan on Monday ordered the remand of 35-year-old woman, Doris Kanung, in prison custody for allegedly stabbing her husband to death.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Taiwo Oladiran, said that the court lack jurisdiction to try the matter. He said that the accused should be remanded at Agodi Prison pending the outcome of advice from the office of Director of Public Prosecution. The plea of the accused was not taken.

Oladiran, however, adjourned the case till Sept. 20, for mention. Doris, a mother of three, who reside at No. 12, Alaafia Str., Mokola, Ibadan, is facing one-count charge of murder.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Femi Omilana, told the court that on Aug. 3, at about 11.30p.m., the accused allegedly stabbed her husband Vincent Kanung, 45, with knife in the stomach following some disagreement. He said that the incident resulted to the death of Vincent. The prosecutor said the offence contravened section 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol.II, Laws of Oyo State

Mum Claims She’s Been Pregnant For 15 Months & Can Feel It Kicking But Doctors Disagree

A mum-of-nine believes she has been pregnant for 15 months and even says she has heard the baby’s heartbeat.

Linda Reeves claims she can feel the ‘baby’ kicking and squirming – but medics say she has just overeaten.

The 50-year-old has been sent for five scans over the past year but they have shown that nothing is growing in her womb.

Town councillor Linda is now convinced her ‘baby’ is an abdominal pregnancy, which is when the child grows outside the womb.

She said: “Nobody will take me seriously. I’ve had nine children and I know what it’s like to feel a baby inside me.”

She added: “I’ve had all the symptoms of pregnancy – sickness, backache and tiredness. I am absolutely certain that there is a baby there, but it is growing in the wrong place.

“I keep going to my GP and he’s agreed to a few times to send me for a pregnancy scan. But they only scan my womb – so how can they find my baby if it’s growing in my abdomen?”

While visiting her sister, Linda begged her sibling’s GP to listen to her tummy with a Doppler machine.

She told the Milton Keynes Citizen: ““I heard the baby’s heartbeat! I know that sound so well, how could I not recognise it!”

The mum has been stopped in the street by strangers who notice her protruding belly and ask when the baby is due.

“When I tell people I’ve been pregnant for 15 months they don’t believe me. I don’t blame them,” Linda said.

Desperate Linda is now pleading with medics to give her a full CT scan to discover exactly what is lurking inside her but claims her request has been refused.

One doctor even told Linda, from Milton Keynes, Bucks, that her ‘pregnancy’ is due to overeating.

Linda fumed: “He said I was just too fat. I was furious.

“I may not be the slimmest person in the world but I’ve actually lost weight because I’ve been so stressed since all this started in May last year.”

She added: “[Doctors] even suggested I have a mental health problem and it’s a phantom pregnancy. They gave me anti-depressants but I threw the prescription in the bin.

“If by some chance I am wrong, then I want to know exactly what is happening inside me. What if it’s cancer? I have a right to be treated seriously.”

The .mp4 video clip was only 10 seconds.The video is believed to be the only footage of her in captivity.Her father Carl described the moment he saw it. He said:

Her mother Marsha added:

“I saw how thin she looked, I saw her eyes were clear. She was very steady so it broke my heart.But I also saw her strength.”

The 26-year-old was held captive at the home of al-Baghdadi’s deputy Abu Sayaff.The Islamic State’s second in command was allegedly killed alongside Kayla in an air strike on the property near Raqqa, Syria, in February 2015.
She was taken captive in August 2013 in Aleppo, Syria, as she left a Doctors Without Borders hospital.

After graduating from university in 2009, Kayla travelled to northern India, Palestinian territories and Israel to assist humanitarian groups.
She then went to Syria to help people whose lives had been torn apart by war, concentrating on children.
There she was kidnapped by jihadis in August 2013 following a short visit over the border from her base in Turkey.

It is believed ISIS were tipped of about her presence by a spy who informed she was there with her Syrian photographer boyfriend Omar Alkhani.
He was later released.

Woman Who Brutalised Her Stepchildren Arrested in Kaduna

Police in Kaduna has arrested the stepmother who brutalized her two young stepchildren in NDC, IgabI local government area of the state. Hasiya Abubakar broke 2-year-old Abdulrahman’s left hand and right leg, she also stabbed 4-year-old Maryam’s head at their father’s home.

After 105 years on this planet, all Ivena “Ivy” Smailes wanted for her birthday was a bunch of “hunky firefighters” to sweep her off her feet — and that’s exactly what she got.

Thanks to the crew over at Addison Court Care Home in Crawcrook, England, Smailes was surrounded by 40 friends and family members along with five gorgeous firefighters from the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service for her birthday last week. One of them even climbed through her window as an added surprise!

“[Ivy] sends us little challenges for her birthday every year and this year she asked for firemen,” one of the facility’s workers Debra Carter told ABC News. “We had the local fire brigade come … through the third floor balcony window. They were more than happy to help!”

Smailes says the experience was “out of this world” — and now that she knows what she can get away with, she’s even started planning for a bigger and better party for her 106th.

“She’s already said that next year she wants to meet Prince Harry,” Carter added.

French Police Enforce Burkini Ban By Ordering Woman To Remove Muslim Garments On Beach

Heavy-handed French police enforcing a ‘burkini ban’ forced a woman to remove her Muslim dress as she sunbathed on a beach.

Mum-of-two Siam, was approached by four officers in Nice and told to take off the baggy blue hooded top which she teamed with leggings.

The former air hostess, whose family members have been French citizens for at least three generations, said: “I wasn’t even planning to swim, just to dip my feet.”

Pictures show her soaking up the sun before being approached by the uniformed cops and
surrounded. She is then seen removing the garment. It is understood she was fined the equivalent of £32 for breaking a burkini ban.

The Nice administration issued an order on Thursday banning swimwear with religious connotations, citing security concerns.

Several other cities on France’s Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts have banned burkinis this summer.

Child Denoted a Bomb That Killed 51 At Turkish Wedding

More than 50 were killed and 94 injured in a bombing at a wedding in Gaziantep, about 60 miles north of the warn-torn Syrian city of Aleppo.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said a child between ages 12 and 14 detonated a bomb at a wedding late Saturday that killed 51 people and injured 69 others.

Erdogan said the Islamic State was behind the attack during a broadcast by NTV.

The blast occurred in the city of Gaziantep, about 60 miles north of the war-torn Syrian city of Aleppo. More than 200 people were packed into a street in the district of Sahinbey for the Kurdish wedding when the explosion occurred around 11 p.m.

He said the suicide bomber also was believed to have killed two policemenin the city.

Erdogan in a statement before his television appearance said there is “no difference” between the IS, which is based in neighboring Syria, the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party and Fetullah Terrorist Organization, founded by U.S.-based cleric Fethullah Gulen, state-run Anadolu Agency reported Sunday.

He has accused Gulen of being behind the recent coup.

“Those, who cannot overcome Turkey and try to provoke people by abusing ethnic and sectarian sensitiveness will not prevail,” he said.

Prime Minister Binali Yildirim vowed renewed fighting against terrorist groups. “No matter what this treacherous terror organization is called, we as the people, the state and the government will pursue our determined struggle against it,” he said.

The United States condemned the killing in the “strongest possible terms.”

“The perpetrators of this barbaric act cynically and cowardly targeted a wedding, killing dozens and leaving scores wounded,” National Security Council spokesman Ned Price said in a statement. “We stand with the people of Turkey as they defend their democracy in the face of all forms of terrorism.”

Vice President Joe Biden will visit Ankara on Wednesday “to reaffirm our commitment to work together with Turkey, our valued NATO Ally and partner, to confront the scourge of terrorism,” according to the statement.

Witnesses described the mayhem.

“We had just walked past the wedding and offered our good wishes when we heard the blast,” Ibrahim Ates, a local man, told The New York Times.“Suddenly people started running past us. When we went back to see what had happened, everyone was on the floor, and there were body parts scattered everywhere and blood splattered on the walls.”

Mahmut Togrul, a lawmaker with the Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party, said the the bride and groom, Besna and Nurettin Akdogan, survived the attack and are in stable condition,” Togrul said.

“Many of the victims that died were children,” he added.

Police found parts of a suicide vest in the area where the blast took place, the Gaziantep chief prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

“Everyone here is devastated. We can’t even carry out the funerals because the bodies are in pieces. They are struggling to identify the victims,” Hilmi Karaca, a Kurdish activist who witnessed the explosion, told The New York Times.

On July 15, at least 240 people were killed in a failed coup aimed at topping the government of Erdogan.

Woman kidnapped and Raped for Nine Months Says her Kidnapper’s Desires Were Fuelled By Porn

Elizabeth Smart, a child rape victim who suffered a horrific nine month campaign of sexual abuse at the hands of her demented kidnapper, has come out publicly to speak about her ordeal with the kidnapper.

Miss Smart who was just 14 when she was snatched from her home in Utah in the USA said the kidnapper/rapist was driven by hardcore pornography which led him to rape her continuously, he also forced her to watch. She also believes that his passion for porn led him to snatch her.

Speaking about her horrific ordeal in an anti-porn campaign video Elizabeth, now 28, said her kidnapper, Brian Mitchell’s passion for porn made things worse for her.

She added that when he watched the videos it “just led to him raping me more”.

Ms Smart was kidnapped by demented Mitchell at the age of 14 when he and his wife Wanda Barzee broke into her home in Utah, USA, and snatched her from her room.
She was then repeatedly raped over a nine month period and was forced to watch sexually explicit films.
Smart has now argued that Mitchell, who was 57, was fuelled by his passion for porn when meted out the horrific abuse.

She said:

“All I know is that pornography made my living hell worse, It just led to him raping me more, more than he already did, which was a lot.

“Looking at pornography wasn’t enough for him. Having sex with his wife after looking at pornography, it wasn’t enough for him. And then it led him to finally going out and kidnapping me. He just always wanted more. I can’t say that he would not have gone out and kidnapped me had he not looked at pornography.”

Ms Smart’s horrific ordeal came to end when a biker alerted police after spotting Mitchell travelling with two people in Utah.

Mitchell is now serving a life sentence for the abuse, his mentally unstable wife Wanda Barzee was sentenced to 15 years for aggravated kidnapping.
The pair were both initially ruled unfit to go on trial because of their mental health.

Mitchell’s defence team argued he was not guilty by reason of insanity. Barzee pleaded guilty.

22-Year-Old Woman Arraigned For Stabbing Salesgirl Over N400 Fried Meat

A young woman identified as Sharon Okafor, 22, was arrested and arraigned in court for allegedly stabbing a salesgirl in the face with broken ceramic plates, following a disagreement over payment for drinks and N400 fried meat at a bar in Lekki Phase One, in Eti Osa Local Government Area.

According to Nigerian Tribune, the suspect said to be a second-hand cloth dealer, who was at the bar in the company of a man, simply identified as Kingsley had ordered for drinks and N400 fried meat.

They were served by the victim, Comfort, who demanded for payment after some times; since she was about to close closing and needed to tidy up sales book for the day. However, the defendant insisted that her friend, Kingsley would only pay when they were done.

According to the source, Kingsley tried to take back the drinks and then threw a plate at her, about 15 men later pounced on her and beat her up till she fainted.

Okafor was arraigned on Tuesday, August 16, by the police at Igbosere magistrates’ court.

The prosecuting officer, O. Balogun, told the court that Okafor “unlawfully assaulted the complainant with a breakable plate and injured her on the face.

35 year old married woman commits suicide in Ogun state

A 35 year old married woman identified as Omolola Atejioye committed suicide by hanging herself inside her home at Ago-Iwoye road, Ilishan-Remo, in Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun state on Tuesday August 16th. According to Tribune, the husband of the deceased came back home from work to find his wife’s lifeless body dangling from their ceiling. She did not leave behind any suicide note.

The state acting Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident, said the remains of the deceased have been deposited at Babcock University morgue where her

husband works. Oyeyemi said a post mortem will be carried out on the deceased to ascertain the cause of her death.

“A member of staff of the Babcock University reported to our men in Ilisan-Remo, that he returned from work around 5.30pm, and met the body of his wife dangling from the ceiling of their apartment, after the door was forced opened. The policemen later brought the body down and it had been deposited in the mortuary of the Babcock University in the same town. The deceased did not leave any suicide note. A post mortem would be carried out on the corpse”he said

A plane passenger cradled her newborn baby in her arms after she prematurely gave birth at 30,000 feet. The seven-months pregnant Filipino woman, who has not been identified, went into labour unexpectedly a few hours after take-off on Sunday morning.

Woman, Neighbour Torture 16-Year-Old Housemaid With Iron

A woman, Fatima Williams, and her neighbour, Waliu Yusuf, have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly brutalising a 16-year-old girl, identified only as Kemi, with a hot iron and electric cables.

Punch correspondent learnt that the Kemi was brought from Cotonou, Benin Republic.
She had been reportedly living with Williams, popularly called Alhaja, since January 2016 as a housemaid.

Williams’ apartment is on Soji Adepegba Close, Allen Avenue, Ikeja. It was gathered that the victim was allegedly tortured for not sweeping Williams’ compound last Thursday.

Punch Metro learnt that a resident informed the police and the suspects were arrested by the Ikeja Police Division on Friday, August 12.

A police source told Punch correspondent that the teenager had been admitted to the Police Cottage Hospital, Ikeja.

Kemi, who spoke with Punch correspondent in Yoruba, said, “On that day, Alhaja instructed me to sweep the compound. She also asked me to clean the windows and wash some clothes.

“I started with the washing and she went out. When she returned, she was angry that I had not swept the compound. She called the man to beat me up.”

Alhaja, a mother of four children who hails from Kwara State, said she got Yusuf to beat the girl for her obstinacy, adding that Kemi’s stubbornness had increased her (Alhaja’s) blood pressure.

She said, “The girl’s brother brought her to me on January 10, 2016. She usually stole things from the house. I kept reporting her to her brother and even asked him to come to pick her, but he refused; I got tired of the girl.

“She continued her rudeness and messed up the whole house. She also urinated on the bed. During all this trouble, my blood pressure got high. I had to use a BP machine in the house. I called and spoke to her like a child, but she would not listen. I usually gave her the food I ate. I gave her brother N40,000 in January.

“When she got me angry on that day, I was tired of beating her and I called Waliu (Yusuf). He was using an iron. As he beat her, she held his clothes and the iron injured her.”

Twenty-five-year-old Yusuf said he had wanted to scare the victim with the iron when it injured her.

He said, “The girl went into the kitchen and brought an insecticide, threatening to kill herself. I then tried to take the substance away from her. She began to struggle with me. I started flogging her and she held on to my clothes.

“Meanwhile, I was ironing some that time. I used the iron to scare her to leave my clothes. That was how the iron fell on her. I only wanted to scare her away.”

The state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, who paraded the suspects at the command headquarters, Ikeja, said they would be charged to court at the end of investigation.

He said, “This is a case of child trafficking, child labour and child abuse as well as assault occasioning harm. The suspects will be arraigned in a court of law.”

Paralyzed Woman Shocked Doctors By Walking Down On Her Wedding Day & Even Danced

A Georgia woman who was told the likelihood of her walking again was so low the percentage was ‘too small to put a number on’ has walked down the aisle at her dream wedding.

Jaquie Goncher, 25, became paralyzed from the neck down at age 17 after an accident in a swimming pool that left her floating face down in the water, believing she’d die.

Doctors told her mother they were hesitant to even put a percentage on the chances of Goncher walking again. Goncher, from Marietta, went from being an active teen who played softball to being
wheelchair-bound.

However, the then-teen refused to be stuck in a chair and after meeting her now-husband, 35-year-old Andy Goncher, she was determined to not only walk down the aisle at their wedding but to also dance.

She had worked hard to regain her ability to stand but Goncher’s low blood pressure made it impossible for her to be on her feet for more than 30 minutes.

After working with physical therapists, spending hours in the gym on a treadmill and exercising her core for strength.

‘It was more than physically hard because I was an athlete…I knew how I should be working out and to do it halfway was emotional,’ Goncher told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

When Goncher’s big day finally arrived few people knew she would be walking down the aisle.

‘I was so nervous. Those entire moments leading up to it, I thought I was going to throw up,’ she said. Finally, she made her way down the aisle to her husband.

‘It was like a movie. Everyone was shocked in the best way,’ Kuhn said.

Goncher danced with her husband, Kuhn painted the moment in water colors.

‘I just felt blessed. I’ve been walking through journey of healing for eight years… I had to put my faith in God – it reminded me of how far I have come,’ Goncher said.

Terminally ill Woman Holds Last Party Before Ending Her Life

In early July, Betsy Davis emailed her closest friends and relatives to invite them to a two-day party, telling them: “These circumstances are unlike any party you have attended before, requiring emotional stamina, centeredness and openness.”

And just one rule: No crying in front of her.

The 41-year-old artist with ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease, held the gathering to say goodbye before becoming one of the first Californians to take a lethal dose of drugs under the state’s new doctor-
assisted suicide law for the terminally ill.

“For me and everyone who was invited, it was very challenging to consider, but there was no question that we would be there her,” said Niels Alpert, a cinematographer from New York City.

“The idea to go and spend a beautiful weekend that culminates in their suicide that is not a normal thing, not a normal, everyday occurrence. In the background the lovely fun, smiles and laughter that we had that weekend was the knowledge of what was coming.”
Davis worked out a detailed schedule for the gathering on the weekend of July 23-24, including the precise hour she planned to slip into a coma, and shared her plans with her guests in the invitation.

As the weekend drew to a close, her friends kissed her goodbye, gathered for a photo and left, and Davis was wheeled out to a canopy bed on a hillside, where she took a combination of morphine, pentobarbital and chloral hydrate prescribed by her doctor.

Davis ended her life a little over a month after a California law giving the option to the terminally ill went into effect. Four other states allow doctor-assisted suicide, with Oregon the first in 1997.

39-year-old Kimberly Coggin from Alabama has been arrested by Calhoun County police officers for engaging in sex with animals.
She admitted having sex with animals after an image showing her engaged in a sexual act was shared online.
Police picked her up and she admitted to having sex with more than one animal after police investigated the photo.

Sheriff Greg Pollan said Coggin was arrested and immediately confessed her guilt.

Despite her guilty plea, Coggin will not be jailed and instead received a 10-year suspended sentence
with five years probation.

She has also been ordered to register as a sex offender while police said they are now investigating how the shocking image surface online.

Police Arrest Killer Of 21 Year Old Woman In Kano

The Police in Kano on Wednesday arrested a 35-year-old barber, Mr Shamsu Isah, for allegedly killing a 21-year-old lady at Karkasara quarters in Kano metropolis.

The Police Public Relation Officer?, DSP Magaji Majiya, confirmed the arrest of the suspect in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano.

Majiya said the deceased, Miss Rejoice Isaac, was allegedly murdered by the suspect on Aug. 3, and buried her in an uncompleted building at Karkasara Quarters.

He said after the arrest of the suspect, he led policemen to the area where he buried the deceased after killing her.

“The suspect confessed to burying Isaac but denied killing her. He had attempted to rape her but as she was trying to run away, she was hit by a wood on the head and that led to her death.

“We invited doctors from Murtala Muhammad specialist Hospital to conduct autopsy on the deceased’s body. We are now waiting for the result,” Majiya said.

According to him, the police commissioner, Mr Rabi’u Yusuf had ordered the transfer of the suspect from the Special Anti-kidnapping Unit to Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for appropriate investigation.

“The suspect is currently with the police undergoing interrogation to ascertain the cause of the deceased’s death,’’ the police spokesman said.

He said as soon as investigation was completed the suspect would be charged to court.

Dead Man Gets Two Obituaries Side by Side from Both His Wife and Girlfriend in the Same Newspaper

Leroy Bill Black, a 55-year-old New Jersey man died on Tuesday.

But due to dueling obituaries for him — one apparently submitted by his wife, the other apparently by his girlfriend — the whole thing has got people talking.

Both obituaries were published in The Press of Atlantic City, one on top of the other, and both included the same photo of the deceased, who lived in Egg Harbor Township.

The first obituary identifies the man as Leroy Bill Black and says he was survived by “his loving wife, Bearetta Harrison Black and his son, Jazz Black.” It says Black died at home on Aug. 2 surrounded by his family. No cause of death is given.

The second obituary identifies him as Leroy “Blast” Black and also says Black died at home — but makes no mention of any family being there. It says in addition to his son, Jazz, Black is survived by his siblings, other family, friends, and his “longtime girlfriend, Princess Hall.”

That obituary also says he was a fiberglass technician who died of lung cancer due to fiberglass exposure.

According to NBC News, neither the wife nor the girlfriend could be reached.

A viewing is set for Saturday afternoon and Black’s funeral is scheduled for Sunday at Greenidge Funeral Homes in Atlantic City. A staff member at Greenidge who did not identify herself told NBC News that she had received a phone call from a mourner “asking if there’s going to be a problem between the wife and the girlfriend” at the funeral.

Joseph Greenidge Jr., the funeral director at Greenidge Funeral Homes, told KYW Newsradio in Philadelphia it isn’t unheard of for there to be multiple obituaries written from different perspectives. But, he said, they took direction from Leroy’s wife regarding the funeral arrangements.

“We follow the state law, which is that there is one point of contact. And in this case, as in any case, it would be the spouse, and so we followed the direction of the spouse,” he told the station.

Woman Runs Mad After Husband Shaves Her Pubic Hair

A mother of three, simply identified as Remilekun, has ran mad after her husband, identified as Oriyomi, allegedly shaved her pubic hair and that of her head.

Vanguard learned that the couple, who have been living together since 2008 in Ikorodu area of Lagos, have three kids, but were yet to formalise their union.

According to a close family source, who spoke to Vanguard, the victim became “mentally ill after her husband reportedly shaved both the hairs on head and pubic area.

“They have been living together since 2008 without any formal wedding. They have three children.
The eldest of their children is seven years old. After she developed mental disorder, Oriyomi sent her out with their three children. Ever since, the children have been living with their grandmother. He neglected the children because their mother is not in a good state of mind.”

Vanguard gathered that the case was reported at Igbogbo Police Station, but was not documented since there was no proof that shaving her head and pubic area were responsible for her mental illness.

When contacted, the victim’s mother said she would want to consult with her husband’s family before speaking out.

Woman Kills Neighbour In Lagos With Boiling Water

An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday remanded a university student, Mabel Bassey, in prison for attacking her neighbour with hot water and killing him.

Ms. Bassey is to be remanded at Ikoyi Prisons pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Ms. Bassey, a student of National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and resident of Surulere Street, Ojo, Lagos, was arraigned before Magistrate Bola Folarin-Williams on a charge of murder.

She was alleged to have poured hot water on Efe Okotie, 38, on July 2 at their residence which resulted in his death.

According to the prosecutor, Olatunde Kehinde, the deceased had advised Bassey to desist from her promiscuous lifestyle which did not go down well with her.

“Out of anger, she bathed the late Okotie with hot water.

“The deceased died six days after the incident due to the severe burns he suffered from the hot water,’’ he told the court.

The offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011 which prescribes death sentence for offenders.

The case has been adjourned to Nov. 4.

Doctor Rapes Woman During Abortion

A doctor allegedly raped a woman during an abortion procedure two weeks after he masturbated in front of her during a physical examination, a court has heard.

According to Tribune 242, after Dr. Gerald Mark Forbes informed the 20-year-old she would need a medical examination to work at his clinic in Freeport, the Bahamas, last February, he was alleged to have rubbed her vagina and masturbated before her.

The report added that two week’s later, after the victim asked him to terminate a pregnancy, he was accused of raping her during the procedure.

The 47-year-old is also said to have given the alleged victim a packet of Methotrexate, a drug used to induce abortions.

The defendant told the police as heard by the Grand Bahama Court that the woman was a ‘friend of a friend’, who simply worked at his office for two months. He denied the allegations of rape and indecent assault.

However, he refused to answer officers when asked about the alleged incidents, telling them he ‘had nothing to say’.

The court was told that in a WhatsApp exchange that took place after the alleged rape, the doctor told the woman he didn’t owe her salary because he had provided her with medication.

During the police interview an officer told him, “The virtual complainant informed you that she will not return to work because she was uncomfortable that you violated her, and you said you were sorry she felt that way and you told her to still come in for follow-up and medication.”

The trial resumes at 11am on Friday.

Woman Burns Boy’s Genitals For Stealing N100

The police in Lagos State have arrested a woman identified simply as Saratu, for allegedly burning the private parts of her seven-year-old nephew, Razak Qudus.

It was learnt that Saratu allegedly burnt the boy’s private parts with a stove after he was accused of stealing N100.

A reporter learnt that the victim, who is a primary four pupil in a private school, lived with the suspect in the Afariogun, Oshodi area of the state.

It was gathered that Saratu’s neighbours reported the matter to a coordinator of the Child Protection Network, Ebenezer Omejalile, living in the area, who in turn reported to the police. The matter was reported at the Makinde Police Division, Oshodi, and Saratu was arrested.

Omejalile said the victim had been taken to a hospital for a checkup while the police had charged the suspect to court.

He said, “The victim is her nephew. The boy attends a private nursery and primary school around Afariogun Junction. He was accused of stealing the money in the school.

“The woman brutalised the boy’s genitals. While we were at the police station, I also informed the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, Alausa. I am sure justice will be done in this matter. The boy has been taken into government’s custody.”

Pakistani Woman Held For Acid Attack On Man

A woman in Pakistan, who allegedly attacked a man with acid for refusing to marry her after a four-year relationship has been held, police said on Friday.

The police said that the woman, identified as Momel and in her early 30s, was arrested on Thursday for throwing acid at her lover in the Makhdoom Rashid area of the central city of Multan.

“Initial inquiries showed that Sadaqat Ali, 27, had promised to marry Momel but was eager to carry on the clandestine relationship without tying the knot,’’ local police official, Tasawar Aslam, said.

He said that the woman argued that she was attacked and acted in self-defence.

“It is a serious case and an inspector-level police officer is probing it,” Aslam said.

The victim of the attack was recovering in Multan’s Nishtar Hospital and his life was not in danger, hospital official, Tariq Saeed, said.

The victim and the accused were each married to different people.

Acid throwing is not uncommon in crimes of passion committed in Pakistan, but women are usually the victims.

Woman Convicted Of Adultery After Accusing Man Of Rape

A Doha court on Monday convicted a Dutch woman of adultery and handed her a one-year suspended sentence after she reported being raped while on holiday in Qatar.

The 22-year-old woman, known only as Laura and who was not in court, was also fined 3,000 Qatari riyals ($800) and will be deported once she pays the fine, court officials said.

She had denied the charge against her.

The male defendant, said by a court official to be Syrian and named as Omar Abdullah al-Hasan, was sentenced to 100 lashes for the illicit sex and 40 lashes for consuming alcohol.

Hasan, who was also not in court, will undergo a medical examination to see if he is fit enough to withstand his punishment.

He will not serve any time in jail but will also be deported once he has been punished.

The Dutch ambassador to Qatar Yvette Burghgraef-van Eechoud, who was present in a packed courtroom, told reporters the embassy would help Laura leave Qatar.

The police in Ogun State have rescued a 24-year-old Dubai returnee from the custody of an Islamic cleric five months after he allegedly abducted her from the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Ikeja, Lagos State.

The suspect, Olalekan Anifowoshe, aka Alfa, was said to have kept the victim, Simbiat (pseudonym), in his rented apartment in the Atan-Ota area of the state and allegedly had sex with her during the period.

A Good Samaritan, who saw her sometime in May, was said to have informed her family and the case
was reported at the Onipanu Police Division, leading to Alfa’s arrest.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Simbiat and the 42-year-old suspect were neighbours in the Surulere area of Lagos.

It was gathered that the suspect’s wife and three children also resided in the Surulere area.

The woman was said to have consulted him in 2013 for help over a spiritual attack before travelling to Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Simbiat, who spoke with PUNCH Metro, explained that after she received a call from Alfa on January 11, 2016, instructing her to come back to Nigeria, she lost her senses and returned to the country immediately.

The victim told Punch correspondent that Alfa had slept with her for at least 10 times, adding that anytime she demanded to see her parents, he would beat her up and boast that she had reached her “final destination.”

She said, “Sometime in 2013, I had a dream that a man made love to me. A friend introduced me to him and he gave me a piece of white cloth with Arabic inscriptions to cover my body whenever I wanted to sleep, which I used. Some months later, I travelled to Dubai.

“On January 11, he called me on the telephone to come home. It was like a spell. I packed my things and arrived in Lagos the following day without telling my parents. He picked me at the airport and took me to his apartment in the Aboru area. After some time, he relocated me to Atan-Ota, where he was eventually arrested. He beat me anyhow and slept with me.

“Sometime in May, he took me to a river for a ritual. While he left me to do something inside the bush, I saw someone I knew. The person informed my father that I was already in Nigeria, but in captivity. My father was shocked because he thought I was in Dubai.”

Simbiat, who sold food in Dubai, alleged that Alfa also collected her jewellery valued at N250,000 and a cash sum of about N480,000.

The suspect allegedly owned up to the allegations in his statement to the police, promising to refund the money.

He said apart from prayers, he also used traditional means to help solve his clients’ problems.

He said, “I am married with three children. The woman and I knew each other in Surulere, where my family members reside. As an Islamic cleric, I help people facing problems with prayers and it works. That was how I got to know Simbiat.

“It is true I cast a spell on her to come back to Nigeria. She was living with me and I slept with her occasionally. I only borrowed the money from her, I will refund it.”

A source close to the victim’s family, who did not want her name in print, said it was unfortunate that she had to go through such an “excruciating” experience.

“I don’t know why this happened to someone like her. She is decent and religious. I have never seen her with a boyfriend. I think the mistake she made was narrating the dream she had to a friend who took her to Alfa. If she had told her father, she would not have fallen victim,” she added.

The Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident in a text message, saying the suspect had been charged to court.

“Case confirmed. The suspect has been charged to court after a thorough investigation. The command has no tolerance for such inhuman case and we will always fish out the perpetrators,” he said.

Buhari Promises Justice Will Be Done In Killing Of Woman In Kano

President Muhammadu Buhari has described as sad and regrettable the developments that led to the killing of Mrs Bridget Agbahime, an Igbo market woman in Kano.
A statement issued in Abuja on Saturday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, said Buhari condoled with the husband of the deceased, Pastor Mike Agbahime, the family and relations, praying that God would give them the fortitude to bear the loss.

He also commended the law enforcement agents for apprehending the prime suspect behind the killing, as well as the Kano State government which summoned a meeting of Christian and Islamic leaders, widower of the deceased, and security agencies, as soon as the sad event occurred.

Adesina said Buhari promised that justice would be done in the matter, and urged the people not to take the law into their hands.

He equally charged those who might want to use the development to fan the embers of religious or ethnic hatred to remember that two wrongs never make a right, and that when law and order break down, the victims are never distinguished on the basis of religion or ethnicity.

Woman Stole Two Babies To Impress Her Boyfriend

One Zainab Salisu, 42-year-old, who stole two children, told newsmen, yesterday, at Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, that she needed the babies because she had a miscarriage, but needed to show her lover evidence of the pregnancy she claimed was his.

However, Zainab’s lover, Saheed Akinwale, a father of three, said he only met her last year, adding “few months after we started dating, she said she was pregnant for me and wanted to travel to the United States to deliver the children.

“I assisted her with N250,000. While she was outside the country, she kept calling me with a private number. I never suspected that she was in Nigeria, or that she never had a child.

“Three weeks ago, she called that she was back in the country and I went to her place to see the twins she claimed were mine. I am innocent. I know nothing about this crime.”

On how she stole the babies, Zainab said: “I stole Feyitola because I had miscarriage and I did not want my lover, Saheed Akinwale, who gave me N250,000 to process my travelling documents to the United States, where I told him I was going to deliver the baby, to find out the truth.”

On the second child, she said: “I did not steal Philip. His mother died four months after his birth and his father, who is my uncle, asked me to take care of him. It was after I stole Feyitola that I told Akinwale that I had come back to the country with the twins.”

The two infants, one-year-old Feyitola Lawal, and Taye (not real name) had been rescued by operatives of the Lagos State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department, SCIID, Yaba, Lagos.

Crocodile Takes Woman During Night Swim

A woman is feared dead after being seized by a crocodile during a night-time swim with a friend at a beach in northern Australia, with reports that she yelled “A croc’s got me!” before disappearing.

The women went for a stroll on Thornton Beach on Sunday evening in the far north of Queensland state before making a fateful decision to take a dip in an area known to be infested with the reptiles.

“The woman was swimming with a female friend, also in her 40s, at 10.30pm when the incident occurred,” police said in a statement.

Nine News cited witnesses as hearing the woman yell “A croc’s got me, a croc’s got me!”

Senior Constable Russell Parker said the women — Australians visiting the area — were in the water when one of them was grabbed, with her friend desperately trying to drag her to safety.

“They decided to take a swim in the ocean just in waist-deep water and at that point, we believe that a crocodile has taken one of the women, taken hold of her,” he told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

“Her friend tried valiantly to drag her to the shore but unfortunately wasn’t able to do so and the woman subsequently disappeared.

“Now her friend raised the alarm with a nearby business and they subsequently contacted the police.”

A rescue helicopter was sent up with thermal imaging equipment but was unable to find her. Marine police also failed to do so when the search resumed on Monday.

Parker added that the surviving woman was “very, very shaken and shocked” but appeared to have escaped with only grazes.

Woman Arrested After She Tried To Rip Off Her Boyfriend’s Testicles During A Heated Argument

28-yearold Rosarie Francois has been arrested after reportedly confessing to trying to rip her boyfriend’s testicles off. According to Daily Star, Ms Francois was involved in a heated ‘verbal altercation’ with her boyfriend while driving in the car.

The two lovers continued to bicker when they returned to their home in Florida, US. Things took a bad turn and got really nasty when the unnamed boyfriend decided to take a shower.

Enraged Francois responded by ‘kicking in the bathroom door and grabbing the victim by his testicles’, according to reports. The fight then ‘moved to the kitchen, where the offender grabbed the victim by the testicles and scratched his face

When cops arrived at the scene, Francois reportedly confessed ‘I tried to rip his balls off’.

She faces a charge of misdemeanour domestic battery and is currently being held in custody.

Lagos Landlady Sets Tenant’s Apartment On Fire To Eject Him

A landlady, Mrs Nike Azeez shocked the residents of Ijegun community in Lagos State western Nigeria, on Tuesday morning after she carried some petrol and set her tenant’s apartment ablaze, destroying properties inside the apartment.

It took the intervention of the residents to quench the fire from spreading to other apartments and the entire building.

P.M.NEWS gathered that the woman did so in order to forcefully eject the tenant who she had a disagreement with.

The incident happened at about 9:00 am on Tuesday at number 8 Two brothers street in Ijegun where
the landlady lives with the tenant.

According to residents, Mrs Nike Azeez reportedly brought some petrol and broke into Adeleke Shakiru’s room and parlour apartment through his window.

She reportedly spread the petrol on a foam and other properties in the house and lit matches to set the place ablaze.

Luckily, a 2-year old boy, Adam, who was sleeping inside the room was rescued but was badly injured, while all the properties inside the room was destroyed by the fire.

After the dastard act, she fled and her husband Jamin Azeez and members of the family fled too due to the fear of her action.

According to the victim, Shakiru, he rented the apartment two years ago and was using a small generator like any other tenant living at the building.

He said one morning, Nike’s husband, Jamiu Azeez told him to stop using the generator which he kept outside the premises.

Shakiru then quizzed Jamiu, asking him why he should stop using his generator, while he was engaging Jamiu, Nike intervened and said whatever the landlord directed must complied with or that he moves out of the house.

He said he ignored them and powered his generator to charge his phones.
He said from there, Nike started making trouble and threatening his family.

He said at a time she used a digger to remove his doors and windows which was reported to the police at Ishero Oshun division.

He said through the intervention of the elders in the area, he withdrew the matter and replaced what she damaged.

On the day the incident happened, he said he was at his place of work when his wife called and informed him that Nike has set their apartment ablaze.

He said when he rushed home, everything was destroyed.

Shakiru’s wife, Bosah, then told our reporter that her husband went to work and Nike came out and was dragging her son, Adam, insisting that she would throw him into the water well.

She said it took the intervention of the neighbours who forcefully prevented her from doing so.

She said while she was still outside with other neighbours, Nike went into her apartment, carried some petrol and went through the back window to burn the house.

She said that it was one of the neigbours who attempted to prevent her that raised alarm. She said the neighbour then rushed inside their room to carry her son.

A team of police officers from Isheri Oshun have visited the place for report and investigation.

Cross River State Governor’s Wife Campaigns Against Women Giving Birth In Churches Instead Of Clinics

Twenty-seven-year-old Ransom Linus Martin, four months into her first pregnancy, has come to the Land of Promise church near the city of Calabar for prayers, but it is also where she will be giving birth.

She is not alone in her choice, but campaigners are trying to end the practice which is widespread in southern Nigeria.

The stocky woman, wearing a knee-length lace dress and a deep yellow beret is blunt about why she, and other women, opt for a church birth with a traditional birth attendant rather than going to a
maternity clinic.

“They do fasting and prayer here, and if you are pregnant you need to go to the place where there is God and there is daily fasting and prayers.

“At the hospital there is nothing like prayer. They don’t pray. They only give you injections. But as you pray at the church, you get closer to God.

“On the day of your delivery, God will help you and you will deliver successfully.”

Ms Martin believes that the church and God will offer more protection than modern health facilities. Unfortunately, there are reports of many women dying while giving birth in the facilities provided by a church.

Dr Linda Ayade, the state governor’s wife, is so concerned about the possible dangers of a church birth that she is campaigning to ban the practice, and is encouraging women to instead go to health centres to deliver their babies.

She has been going from village to village across the state, trying to persuade expectant mothers.

Woman Visits Ex-Husband’s Home, Murders Wife

A jilted woman stormed a Nairobi home of her ex-husband and murdered his current wife in cold blood, police have said. Kasarani police are holding three suspects in connection to the murder of the 35-year-old woman at Greenwood estate in Kasarani.

The victim, only identified as Wanja, was found in the living room lying in a pool of blood by the caretaker of the house on the night of March 29, 2016.

The caretaker told police that he went into the house only to find the man’s ex-wife in the company of an unidentified man cleaning blood stains from the walls.

He then called the brother of the victim’s husband to inform him of the tragic incident, before alerting the police.

Kasarani OCPD Robinson Mboloi told Nairobi News, “The woman is an ex-wife of the owner of the said building and we have arrested the two suspects, a woman and a young man who were found wiping blood on the floor by the caretaker of the house.”

He added that although it’s the caretaker who reported the matter to the police, they still had to detain him to ascertain if he was involved or not.

“The case is still being investigated and once the investigations are completed we will take them to court. For now all three suspects are in Police custody,” Mboloi said.

Man Jailed In Kirirkiri Prison For Stealing Baby Food To Feed His Newborn Baby

A 28-year-old man, Nurudeen Sulaimon, has been arrested and jailed for allegedly stealing formula worth N45,000 from a supermarket to feed his newborn baby who was crying for food. It is alleged that Sulaimon went to a supermarket and stole some tins of SMA Gold infant formula but his action was caught on the supermarket’s CCTV. He was apprehended on his way out of the supermarket by the store’s security men and handed to the police.
He was arrested and taken to the police station. At the station, he begged for forgiveness saying that
he had a newborn baby who hadn’t had any food to eat except water.

He said his wife had given birth to the baby last week Saturday, but wasn’t producing enough breast milk to feed the baby, he said they tried giving the baby water on that fateful day but the water didn’t seem to soothe the baby so he went out to get some formula to feed it.

He was charged to court for theft but he pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr A. A. Fashola granted Sulamon bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum. He was remanded in prison at Kirikiri until he perfected his bail.

The case was adjourned till April 27.

Woman Allegedly Plots Grandfather’s Kidnap

A trader, Ayisat Amodu, who allegedly conspired with two others to kidnap her grandfather, was yesterday remanded in prison custody by an Ilorin Magistrate’s Court. Magistrate Mohammed Ibrahim ordered the accused remanded at the Federal Prison, Okekura, Ilorin, while the case was adjourned till March 22 for mention.

Amodu, a resident of Ilesha Baruba in Kwara, is facing trial with Ali Mohammed and Adamu Hassan in the court. The Prosecutor, Inspector Nasiru Yusuf, told the court that the trader, along with Mohammed and Hassan, kidnapped her grandfather, Yakub Bello, for a ransom.

Yusuf said that the trio committed the offence sometimes in March at Tunbuyan Fulani Camp in Ilesha Baruba in Baruteen Local Government Area of Kwara State. The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 1, 2 and 6 of Kwara State Prohibition of Kidnapping Law, 2010.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

A couple who are collectively 71.4 inches tall have just missed out on the Guinness World Record for world’s smallest married couple. Pramod Kumar, 47, finally found love with Poonam Devi, 33, after a 22-year search and they got married in a traditional Indian ceremony in Uttar Pradesh, India last week.

He is 2’7″ and she is 3’4″ and their combined height is just 0.4 inches taller than the current record holders.

That honour goes to Douglas Maistre Breger da Silva and his wife Claudia Pereira Rocha, who measure a combined 71 inches.

But Kumar isn’t fussed about narrowly missing out on the record, which would have seen them become minor celebrities in their home country, known for its obsession with record breaking.

Kumar said: “A local villager helped us meet because he knew that both of us were single. It was love at first sight for me. We fell in love right after our first meeting. Things between us moved forward quickly and we got married within a few days. I am pleased to have met my life’s love and wouldn’t change anything.”

Devi added: “I was very lonely in life before meeting Pramod. He is an incredible man. I can only thank my stars for this gift that I have got in my husband.”

The couple say that local villagers who bully them because of their heights are jealous of their happiness now.

The two lovebirds got married in an elaborate wedding ceremony and are looking forward to having proper jobs so that they can build a home and family.

Man Burns Teenage Pregnant Girlfriend Alive Because He Didn’t Want To Be A Father

A man burned alive his heavily pregnant teenage lover because he didn’t want to be a father.
Eren Toben, the father-to-be, and his friend lured Maria Peiner, 19, into a wood on the outskirts of Berlin to kill her.
Once in the woods he hit her with a piece of wood, stabbed her with a bread knife and then poured petrol over her and set her alight.

The judge said: “She was still conscious, it could have been 10, 20, 30 seconds – she was still moving.”

The body was found by a walker the next day and the pair responsible for her death were soon in
custody and blaming each other.

But Toben’s fingerprints were on the handle of the knife found near her charred remains. Both remained silent during the trial.
Of his accomplice the judge said:

“He acted for the sole purpose of taking pleasure in the destruction of another human being’s life.”

Speaking after the trial, Maria’s brother said:

“I hope that our family can finally have some peace.”

In Germany the killer and his accomplice friend were each jailed for 14 years for the horrific crime.
Jud Regina Alex said of Toben, who hatched the plot:

“For him the crime was a solution, he wanted a free, happy life which he had control over. “He abused Maria’s love for him to lure her into an ambush.”

Maria was eight months pregnant and looking forward to becoming a mother, the court heard.
But in January last year Toben, together with his old schoolpal Daniel Mueller, 20, lied to her that they were going to go shopping for baby clothes and killed her in the woods.

Vietnamese Prisoner Escapes Death Row By Impregnating Herself With Fellow Inmate’s Sperm

The 42 year woman paid a 27 year old convict 50million Vietnamese Dong (£1,600) for his sperm which she used to impregnate herself with.

Nguyen Thi Hue, was arrested in the coastal province of Quang Ninh in 2012 on charges of drug trafficking, local newspaper Thanh Nien News reports. She was sentenced to death two years later.

When she appealed, the court upheld her sentence, according to the Associated Press. But it looks like Hue will avoid the death penalty after all.

The Vietnamese penal code forbids the execution of pregnant women or mothers with children under
the age of 36 months and orders that in those cases the death penalty should be converted to life imprisonment.

Investigators discovered that Hue paid a 27-year-old male inmate more than $2,000 in August 2015 for his semen and syringes, which they say she used to inseminate herself. The baby is due in April, and Hue’s sentence will officially be reduced to life imprisonment after the birth.

Four officers at the prison have been suspended for alleged negligence, the Associated Press report.

Married Woman Who Gave 22-Year Old Boy Overdose Of Sex Enhancement Drugs On The Run

Military authorities in Benin, Edo State, are on the trail of a married woman, who abandoned a 22-year-old boy in a hotel room after she gave the boy an overdose of sex enhancement drugs.

Vanguard learned that the boy raised an alarm when he started experiencing pains in his erect penis.

The receptionist reportedly met the boy looking very weak. He was then rushed to a nearby hospital.

Vanguard was informed that the said woman normally comes to the hotel with the boy after dropping off her children in school. A source told Vanguard: “She will be in the hotel from 8a.m. till about 2p.m., when she will go and pick the children from school. She spends all the time with the boy in the hotel room.”

It was further gathered that the woman was always buying milk and sex enhancement drugs for the boy. However, on this said day, she was alleged to have given the boy an overdose, leading to the boy’s permanent state of erection.

The boy is said to be receiving treatment under the watch of some military personnel, who came to his rescue. It was learned that police have also been informed, but that they intend to allow the boy regain his strength before going after the married woman, who is said to be a mother of three and married to a wealthy man.

A 48 year-old woman caused a mild drama at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja after she allegedly vomitted 15 wraps of white, powdery substances that tested positive for cocaine.

Saidat Hassan, a mother of three,? was arrested at the central screening section of the departure hall during the screening of passengers on an Egypt Airline flight to Jedda, Saudi Arabia, en-route Cairo.

She was immediately apprehended by officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) who discovered that she had ingested 80 wraps of cocaine weighing 904 grammes, the agency said in a statement on Friday.

Hamisu Lawan, the NDLEA Abuja airport commander said efforts were made to protect her from any harm resulting from drug ingestion.

“As soon as we discovered that the suspected wraps she vomited tested positive for cocaine, we took measures to ensure her safety by preventing any harm that may result from drug ingestion,” said Mr. Lawan.

“While under observation, she excreted sixty-five similar wraps. In all, she ingested 80 wraps of cocaine weighing 904 grammes; her case is under investigation.”

Mohammad Abdallah, the? NDLEA Chairman, who expressed satisfaction with her arrest said her action negates every principle of good parenting.

Just a few days after the international day of action against female genital mutilation (FGM) Kenya’s People Daily newspaper says it is an “open secret” that Kenyan-Somali parents, who have settled in the US and Europe, have been travelling back home with their daughters to have them undergo Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

The paper quotes a nurse in Nairobi’s Eastleigh neighbourhood as saying that she undertakes the
procedure in their homes and charges up to $100 (£67) for each operation.

A traditional circumciser also told the newspaper that she has in the past conducted FGM in London “where families invited her secretly” but later decided to insist they travel home to avoid being caught.

Hassan Kiko was jailed for raping a 15-year-old girl after seeking asylum in Switzerland in 2010.
But the Syrian was reportedly released by Swiss prison officer Angele Magdici who had fallen for him.

Her husband Vasili Magdici claimed the 32-year-old became obsessed with the Koran and became “very close” with a woman from Turkey.

He said: “She was suddenly very close with a woman from Turkey, she became her best friend and
she was learning Turkish words.

“I am worried she might try and go to Turkey, and from then on go to Syria.”

The couple married in 2014 and he revealed she was receiving text messages in Arabic about five months ago.
He said: “I was there when she got an SMS in Arabic and her best friend was asked to translate it as quickly as possible.”
The prison guard left their shared flat three months ago and Mr Magdici believed she moved in with her Turkish friend.
He added: “I loved her, and I wanted to have children with her.

“But then three months ago she told me she wanted to split. She move out of the house when I was away, and took everything with her.”
Kiko was jailed in November 2014 after he was convicted of brutally raping the teenage girl.
Ms Magdici allegedly freed Kiko at midnight when other guards were asleep.

The prison’s director, Roland Zurkirchen, said:

“As supervisors, we need to maintain a professional relationship but sometimes it is necessary to speak in confidence with inmates. “This is part of building a professional relationship and is part of everyday life. “But supervisors should also keep the proper distance, which in this case did not happen.”

Missing Woman’s Body Found In Car Parked Outside Wal-Mart Store For 3 Months

Nearly three months after she went missing, a 22-year-old woman’s body was found inside a car parked outside a Wal-Mart in Salinas, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.
Wal-Mart employees found the body of Lauren Jessie Moss inside her silver Volkswagen Jetta on Feb. 3., according to television station KSBW in Salinas.
Moss was last seen leaving a rehabilitation center in nearby Seaside on Nov. 13. She was reported
missing and a case was opened.

Police said the woman’s car had dark tinted windows and a sunshade covering the dashboard, which made it difficult to see inside the vehicle. The store’s security cameras only archive footage for 60 days, but video shows the car parked in the same spot since December.

Her car was investigated after a Walmart employee noticed the silver Jetta had been in the same spot for days.

Thornburg said she was considered a ‘voluntary missing adult’ because nothing indicated she had been involved in an argument or altercation before her disappearance.

The cause of death has not been determined, however the woman’s sister said she left a note and a drug needle was found inside the car.

Man Arrested For Murdering His Baby Mama & Their 2 Year Old Daughter Over Child Support Payments

25 year old Daron Boswell-Johnson, has been arrested for allegedly murdering his baby mama, 26 year old NeShante Davis (pictured left) and their 2 year old daughter, Chloe Davis-Green, (pictured right). According to police reports, Daron lied-in-wait for the mother and child outside their home in Maryland, USA on Tuesday morning Feb. 2nd and as they came out around 7am, he shot both of them multiple times, killing them. He then fled the scene. He was caught the next day!

According to News4, the alleged killer was angry over $600 in monthly child support he had been
ordered to pay. He had initially refused to pay it, asking for a DNA. He was confirmed to be Chloe’s father in December 2015 through a DNA test conducted as part of a paternity suit.

The killer and his ex had had many confrontations over the child and child support payments but nobody suspected he would go this far!

Police Officer Who Battered His Wife To Death For Refusing Sex Jailed For Life

PC Adrian Goldsmith was jailed for life on February 1 at Stafford Crown Court after he was found guilty of killing his wife.

Goldsmith, 50, beat wife Jill, 49, with a mallet, paint pot and heavy battery then stabbed himself to make it look like self-defence. He tried to trick colleagues and a jury into thinking she had attacked him first at their home close to Northants Police headquarters.

Goldsmith also known as Otis, was arrested after his wife was found dead in March last year. The lying policeman even made out Mrs Goldsmith had “self-harmed” in the moments before her death.

But a jury at Stafford Crown Court dismissed his fantasy defence and found him guilty of murder. Judge Paul Glenn who delivered the sentence said he must spend at least 15 years behind bars before he can be considered for parole.

The officer, who has been dismissed from the force, showed no emotion as he was sentenced.

“You set about establishing a defence in an attempt to avoid the consequences of your actions. You lied repeatedly to the police, to the doctors who were treating you and to the prison chaplain some weeks later when you were on remand. You had caused injuries to yourself to enable the defence you ran at your trial to get off the ground.”

Judge Glenn rejected Goldsmith’s claims that his wife had become violent and aggressive shortly before she died.

“Jill Goldsmith was a mother, a daughter and a friend of many. No sentence the court can impose can even begin to compensate for the loss and anguish the family are feeling. The nature of this attack was such that your victim would inevitably have suffered physically before she died. There were multiple blows, predominantly to the head. She must have been in terror as she fought for her life, as I am satisfied she did.”

Goldsmith, also known as Otis, was a serving officer at the time of the offence and had 28 years of service and a number of commendations. The officer, of Wootton Hall Park, Northampton, denied murder. According to the prosecutor, John Lloyd-Jones, QC:

“Jill was undergoing the menopause and the reduction in her sex drive annoyed and frustrated the defendant.”

The victim’s heartbroken son Charlie Bailey said in an impact statement that his mother’s death means “there is a massive part of me missing”

Woman’s Body Exhumed On Claims Her Husband Had Not Fully Paid Her Dowry In Kenya

The body of a 28 year old Kenyan woman, Alice Kemunto Bundi was exhumed from her grave on January 27th, just a day after she was buried at her matrimonial home in Nyamatoki village, after her family complained that her husband had not completely paid her bride price and had no right to claim her corpse.

The family of the mother of four who was four months pregnant when she died, went to court and obtained an exhumation permit from the Kisii law court. Her family members also argued that they were not informed by the husband on what killed their sister nor were they carried along during her funeral arrangements.

The husband however provided a clinical report which states that his wife of six years died while trying to undergo an abortion.

Her in-laws confirmed that the dowry for late Alice had not been settled. “We had given them [Bundi’s family] one cow and KES 5 000 cash($48), though they were asking for KES 20 000($196),” said one of the in-laws in an interviewed.

Scammer Arrested For Blackmailing Late M.K.O Abiola’s Wife

Caleb Nzube, a 26 year old man who attempted to blackmail the wife of late Chief MKO Abiola of $5,000, was last week arrested in Anambra State.
According to reports, Nzube allegedly hacked the Twitter handle of Mrs Tinu Abiola, downloaded her picture and designed a web page showing her carrying a human skull.

He then threatened to expose the web page to the world if the she did not pay $5,000.
Mrs Abiola in turn, refused to be blackmailed so she contacted Inspector General, Solomon Arase, who directed a combined team of the Inspector General Monitoring Team and the Intelligence
Response Team to track down the suspect.

He was arrested when the operatives stormed his hideout in Obosi.

It was gathered that Mrs Abiola was not the suspect’s only victim, it was leanred that he was harassing 2 other people.
According to Vanguard, Caleb Elom Nzube admitted that he is an internet fraudster who specialised in online dating before diverting into blackmail.
He said:

“I started following Mrs Timu Alade Abiola on Twitter and I got her pictures. I felt she was a good catch and I decided to blackmail her. I used Photoshop to make it look like she was carrying a human skull. I designed a web page with a little gossip story on it that she was caught for ritual.

“I sent her the link and when she saw it I demanded she pays me $5000 or I will show it to the whole world. One of her friends came in and begged that I shouldn’t do it and that they were ready to pay me $ 2000. I rejected the money, insisting that I must collect the amount I demanded”.

“Later they discovered I was Igbo and they gave my number to an Igbo girl who started talking to me and I accepted their offer, what got me angry was that while we were still talking, they sent a fishing link that destroyed my website which I have been maintaining for more than four years. That website had paid me little money I have used in sustaining myself”.

“I told the Igbo girl about it and that if I don’t get the money before the end of the week I will show the web page to the whole world. She asked for my account, I gave it to her but before I knew what was happening, the police came and arrested me”.

“I don’t understand why she has to bring in the police; I told the girl that what I needed was for her to tell her madam to just pay me for my website they destroyed. In fact I regret all this, if I had known it will be this messy I would have not ventured into this. What I do is only dating. I just wanted to try my luck on this one.”

A Russian beauty queen contestant strangled the 10-year-old daughter of her ex lover with a pair of tights in revenge for being dumped.

Ekaterina Poberezhnaya, 23, was found guilty of murdering the girl, called Nastya, in the small village of Lazo, in the Primorsky Krai region of south east Russia. She was later sentenced to 12 years in prison for the shocking crime.

A court heard how Poberezhnaya was heartbroken after her lover decided to end their relationship in
order to patch things up with his family.

Succumbed by rage the scorned woman, who was an entrant in the 2012 beauty pageant ‘Miss Dalnerechensk’, seized her moment when the girl came round to her apartment.

Once the little girl was in her home she strangled her with a pair of tights the youngster had brought with her.
Poberezhnaya plead not guilty to charges and even appealed for her lengthy sentence to be reduced.

However, the court dismissed her appeal and she now faces 12 hard years in a Russian jail.

Children are revered in Russian culture and anyone who abuses them automatically becomes marked by other convicts inside as the lowest of the low.

Penal experts believe it is likely that Poberezhnaya will have to serve most or all of her incarceration in solitary confinement for her own safety.

Call it (or them) any name you want – saboteurs, haters, opposition, people with pull-down-at-any-cost syndrome, enemies of progress; but it all boils down to bad belle people, of whom the master rapper, Mister Incredible (M.I) has made quite a huge diss about. You encounter this type of people in every facet of life, and most especially in your place of work, and more often than not you’ve relegated them to the background, where nothing they say seems to matter anymore. Imagine a colleague with whom you are having this type of relationship with, the person who makes every innocent conversation edgy. Whatever seems to be the topic of discussion this person is always in the opposition and attacks everything you say and do, even when it is the least of things you consider harmful. How about I tell you there’s a way to go round this person without the “usual” frontal offensive, which is common.

In every scenario you can imagine, the most annoying would to be a moment when having filed in a report or a presentation to your boss, you’re seated on your desk feeling accomplished, then all of a sudden a head pops up from the side and says: “I happen to see the draft report you sent, and there are sooooo many mistakes. Come over let me share some ideas with you to make it better.”

It makes you want to scream in anger. All sorts of reactions and thought would pop up: “See this one, how she get my report sef?” “He just happens to sit down and mark all my mistakes, busy-body.” “She thinks she’s so smart, telling me to come let’s make it better; ITK.”

Now, erase that person off your mind, and instead, imagine another colleague with whom you’re friendly with; that person who always got your back. This is someone you go to for advice and always a delight when you deliberate on important issues. Once you have this person in mind, imagine this scenario: You’re seated on your desk, then all of a sudden a head pops up from the side and says: “I happen to see the draft report you sent, and there are so many mistakes. Come over let me share some ideas with you on how to make it better.”

You feel pleased, appreciative, and looking forward to the conversation, right? You may even long for the discourse and jot down more questions in anticipation. That’s how intensely your assumptions and predispositions affect your perceptions. And after the conversation might have ended, the truth is that most of the time, the exact same message from the two different people leads to radically different outcomes. With the perceived bad belle, you assume the worst. Your mentality, your reaction and body language become negative and impervious. The “adversary” being human would get defensive and hostile upon seeing your behaviour. The corresponding faceoff justifies more adversarial attitude from you, and as a result status-quo is maintained, trust is further eroded, while the organization is worse for it.

However, with your paddy; your “five and six,” you assume the best, your conversation and actions are open, your ideas are laid bare without fear of criticisms, you share, learn, trust grows and the end product makes the work and organization better. You then wonder why you can’t get along with the “bad-belle.” The missing antidote in you is mind-set, mindfulness, mentality. It is the best antidote to reverse the destructive dynamics going on between you two. Being mindful of the assumptions you make gives you an opportunity to reverse the ills of your prejudices.

Paying attention to how you react to your colleagues actions, would give you some clues on why your heart race, why you clench your fists, why you raise your voice, why you shut down and back off whenever that person appears, speaks or offers help. Each time you experience this, stop and ask yourself, what is going on with you? Why have you inferred that whatever he/she does or say would be negative? In the end you would notice that the most intense reactions are often triggered by assuming what the other person thinks or infers about your character or capability. By becoming aware of your negative assumptions is a valuable, but “uncomfortable” step in addressing the issue.

Next step is addressing the logic. Once you are aware of your default conclusion, the next and easiest step is to replace your assumption(s) with a more productive hypothesis. Instead of assuming they see themselves as being too smart to highlight your mistakes, change your logic into thinking that they are actually be concerned for you due to the standard and scope your boss wants the report to accomplish. Or they’re actually looking out for you by making sure you didn’t present a report full of errors. Such alternative logic would make you more generous and empathetic, needed to generate a productive conversation. Make the same inference for yourself, fill your mind with thoughts that; “I haven’t put in enough work, despite my big brains.” This will ensure that you would be more receptive and have an open mind to ideas which would widen your aptitude.

Lastly, to crown this approach, you need to show superficially the curiosity you are modelling internally. To demonstrate your honesty to a colleague’s perspective, ask questions: Why do you disagree with the data on the document? Why do you think the report should take a different course? It will be amazing to see how your discussion would be transformed to a more constructive dialogue; from a tug-of-war over who is right to two people genuinely trying to solve a problem. Only when you change your mind-set would you be able to make more positive assumptions and start getting over your prejudices, so you can choose a more constructive path, albeit in the office; the neighbourhood bad belles can wait.

Hanna Lottritz was declared brain dead after a night of extreme binge drinking landed her in a coma. As she lay in a hospital bed, doctors observing her thought there was little hope she would survive.

Lottritz shared a photo of herself in a hospital bed as she struggled to survive accompanied by a moving blog post about her ordeal. Lottritz’s story is a chilling reminder of recent tragedies that involve drinking and young people, such as Shelby Allen who died after drinking 15 shots of vodka, and Humberto Moura Fonseca who died after consuming 25 shots in 60 seconds.

Lottritz said she wrote the post “because I didn’t realize the importance of drinking responsibly until I was waking up from a coma, and I don’t want anyone to go through what my family and I went through.”

An Adelaide woman in Australia found a deadly snake peering out from under hers.

What’s more, it later emerged that the venomous eastern brown snake was also heavily pregnant.

The eastern brown snake is responsible for one or two deaths a year in Australia, making it the deadliest snake in the country.

The hapless fridge-owner called Snake Catchers Adelaide to deal with the situation. Snake catcher Rolly Burrell breezed in and removed the expectant mother by moving the fridge and grabbing it.

“I’ve been doing it for 40 years and I make it look easy,” he said. “When you’re doing 300 snakes a month you tend to get a little bit blasé.”

He added: “It’s lucky she saw the snake now or she might have been going to the fridge to get a drink later on and seen all these little critters all over the place.”

After it was rescued, the snake laid 15 eggs, and was given some mice, water and a rest to build up her strength before being released.

A nurse who was about to tuck into a fresh carrot and sweetcorn salad from Asda was disgusted to find body parts belonging to a WEASEL mixed in it.

Rifat Asghar had already taken a few bites of her lunch when a colleague pointed out a furry lump sticking out.

As Rifat had a rifle through she found a leg and a tail – as well as what looked like an EYE.

The sickened 42-year-old took the lunch straight back to the supermarket in Bradford, Yorkshire, where she was offered a £5 refund.

An investigation later revealed the ‘foreign object’ was in fact a baby weasel and staff offered Rifat £100 in vouchers – which she turned down.

An email from a team leader at the store said: “The specimen was very badly damaged, showing some skin, fur, a leg joint, a foot and tail.

“It was concluded that the complaint specimen was most likely the remains of a young member of the species Mustela nivalis, the weasel.”

Bosses claim the furry animal must have been picked up in a field during harvesting – and passed through the entire factory without being spotted.

But Rifat said she has been left traumatised by the experience and now has to spend extra time and money preparing her food.

She said: “It has caused me a lot of trauma. I initially thought it was a mouse, and for about a week afterwards I had weird dreams about mice coming out my mouth.

“They say it was in there from when it was harvested. What happened to all the checks done after that happened?

“If something like that can go through all their processes and checks it worries me.

“I has completely changed the way I shop now and I can’t buy any prepared food any more. I’m having to make it all myself. It was so traumatising.”

A spokeswoman for Asda apologise to Rifat, adding: “We would like to reassure our customers that we have strict quality control measures in place for our fresh produce, and since this incident arose in November last year, we have worked with our suppliers and growers to assess these measures and to understand how this could have happened.

“We have also apologised directly and offered a gesture of goodwill to both Ms Asghar as well as as well as her colleague, who originally purchased the product.”

Samara Rose Ingraffia suffers from erythromelalgia or Man on Fire syndrome, which leaves her feeling like she is experiencing constant second degree burns.

Samara also suffers from Renauld’s syndrome – an equally rare condition that means her body reacts dramatically to the slightest drop in temperature.

The 25-year-old said: “I don’t know what the worst part of this condition would be. It affects everything in my life. It’s all consuming and it’s just maddening to be constantly burning alive – it’s hell on earth.”

To have anything like a normal life Samara can only be exposed to a temperature of 17 degrees Celsius – anything higher or lower will lead to incredible suffering.

Her father Brian is a former college professor who is also housebound with the same two conditions.

He said: “Knowing that my daughter has to go through even more pain than me is absolutely heartbreaking. Between the two of us we’ve tried every treatment that’s been used for erythromelalgia but we have found absolutely nothing that helps.

Samara developed the condition aged nine but it took years to get a diagnosis after the family visited more than 100 doctors looking for help.

Traditional education soon became impossible for Samara because of the heat in the classrooms so she had to be homeschooled – leading her to become very isolated. The family has been desperately trying to find a cure for Samara and Brian but is not hopeful.

Samara said: “I did get my hopes up when we were looking into stem cell therapy but it is insanely expensive costing around $60,000. There’s certainly no guarantee but it seems the most promising. But who has that kind of money – it really helps if you’re rich when you’re sick,” she said groaning.

Keenyatta Robinson refuses to give her dough to Domino’s Pizza after discovering a vulgar note on two receipts. Robinson’s daughter recently ordered a pizza from a Domino’s in West Bloomfield, Michigan. When she saw the receipt, something bothered her (and it wasn’t the price of the pie).

On the receipt were three words, two of them offensive: “f*** this c***”.

“I don’t understand why they would treat me this way,” Robinson said.

Robinson decided to see if it was an accident, so she placed another order.

“When I came to pick it up that receipt had the same vulgar language,” she said.

Robinson believes the receipts are in retaliation for the time in 2014 when she complained about not getting the sausage pizza she ordered.

The manager told her she would no longer be served, and she complained to his superiors. Ronnie Asmar, Director of Operations at Domino’s, said that manager was later terminated, in part, for being rude to customers.

“His parting gift to us was putting that vulgar comment in her phone number’s notes,” Asmar said.

Apparently, no one noticed the comment until Robinson pointed it out.

38-year-old Cristina Ojeda-Thies suffered a shark attack while swimming off the popular resort of Gran Canaria. She tweeted a photo showing the scars on her hand where the shark had sunk its teeth,

‘Today I’ve had a face to face meeting with a shark. Things that happen when you swim in the Canaries in December.’ she tweeted.

Authorities feared the incident could impact tourism and downplayed the incident. Fernando Frias, president of Canary Islands Shark Alliance which promotes shark conservation, said the incident is a ‘one-off’. ‘I doubt something like this will happen again in the next 50 years so people shouldn’t be afraid.’

An elderly dementia patient was shot dead in her care home by her one-armed husband who was staying with her over Christmas.

Rita King, 81, was gunned down in front of frail residents by spouse Ronald, 86, who mumbled ‘she has had enough’ before pulling the trigger.

According to Daily mail, the couple are understood to be childless and the strain of looking after his
wife had taken its toll on Mr King.

One neighbour said he simply ‘could not cope’, while another said he was ‘under great stress’. Mrs Curtis, who has run the residential home for two years, said: ‘This morning he came towards us with the gun and the woman was shot.’

She put her arm around the man and pleaded for him to drop the weapon.

She said: ‘I put my left arm around him and put his right arm between him and the gun and said ‘please, please give me the gun’, and he let go.’

Mrs Curtis said at first she had not realised the gun was real or if anybody had been injured.

‘He came towards me with the gun, my first thought was that it wasn’t real, but then my next thought was trying to stop him hurting my residents,’ she said.

An Indian man has been accused of kidnapping and raping a female colleague for five days to force her to convert to Islam.

Engineer Syen Emad Hasan, 30, proposed to the 27-year-old woman but she rejected him and said her family would not allow ‘an inter-religious marriage’, police said.He harassed her until she cut short a work trip to Dubai. When she returned home to confront Hasan, he abducted her, locked her up at his house and took away her phone.

Dell computer repairs shop in Gachibowli, Hyderabad.Police said

When she left the company and moved to Dubai in August, he ‘continued to torture her on social media’,
‘The woman told us she was forced to talk to Hasan as he showed her photos and videos of them together in Hyderabad, and threatened to send them to her father, said Inspector Ravinder. ‘He [Hasan] also demanded that she send inappropriate photos of her.’

When she returned home to Hyderabad to confront him, he snatched her away to his flat in the al-Hasanath colony.

‘He took three days’ leave and brutalised and sexually assaulted her,’ said an officer of Hyderabad’s ‘She Team’, a police unit tasked with investigating sexual assault.
‘He threatened to continue doing so until she agreed to marry him after converting to Islam. He even threatened to set her on fire and strangle her.’He took away her phone, passwords of her e-mail, Facebook, and started using them in her name. She was denied access to anybody.’

After four days of captivity, the woman managed to get onto Facebook when Hasan was out and messaged her friend.

Her friend contacted her brother in the south western city of Karnataka, who made the 280 mile journey to Hyderabad and alerted the police.Police found the woman locked in a bathroom in a state of shock with severe injuries to her head and face.

‘Hasan said they were lovers, but the woman appears very scared in his presence,’ the ‘She Team’ official said.

That’s according to this young woman anyway, who turned down her boyfriend’s marriage proposal because the diamond on the ring was too small.

The poor guy had gone to some effort to put a ring on it as well, getting down on one knee while a troop of hired dancers performed an elaborate display for the lucky lady.

She initially appeared to be overcome by the moment, starting to cry as he made his move, but this emotion soon switched to anger as she was confronted by the size of the diamond.

One eyewitness to the event in Chengdu, China, told local TV: “Her eyes went wide as she put her hand over her mouth, and then she turned around and walked away without saying anything.”

Ice cold. And a screenshot of a conversation she had with a mate afterwards has been leaked, with her allegedly saying:

” But he agreed to buy me a diamond ring as large as one carat.

A woman was awarded $7.25 million in a revenge porn suit against her ex-husband, who, she says, made her have sex with other people on camera and then posted the videos all over the Internet, according to the Dallas Morning News.

The paper reports that there are more than 2,000 websites with pornographic or provocative photos of Bindu Pariyar, which she says were posted by her ex Tom Randell Sewell, who has refused to take them down. The images range from Pariyar dancing on a pole to having sex. She explains that her ex ordered her to work at a strip club for money and that, after plying her with drugs and alcohol, he forced her into having sex with other men (who she later learned were paying him) and women while he filmed.

Man Who Survived 15 Months Drifting At Sea Sued For Eating Colleague

Reports have it that the castaway, Salvador Alvarenga, 36, who survived 15 months at sea by drinking urine and turtle blood has been sued for $1m for ‘eating his colleague’.

The man who is being sued by the family of the colleague claimed that Alvarenga, ate crewmate Ezequiel Cordoba, 22, and want £650,000 from him.

Salvador Alvarenga, 36, paid Ezequiel Cordoba, 22, $50 to accompany him on a two-day fishing trip off the coast of Mexico in November 2012.

After a vicious storm pushed the boat out to sea, the pair survived by catching fish and birds, and drinking turtle blood and urine.

The boat landed on the Marshall Islands where he described how he ate birds and fish he managed to catch by hand.

Mr Cordoba eventually died after making Mr Alvarenga promise not to eat his corpse and to find his mother and tell her what happened. Alvarenga kept the rotting corpse on the boat for six days for company, until he realised he had lost his grip on reality and threw it overboard.

However, Mr Cordoba’s family say they think he was a victim of cannibalism.

According to Metro.co.uk, Mr Alvarenga, who has just published a book about his ordeal, has insisted he did not eat his shipmate.

His lawyer Ricardo Cucalon, told El Salvador’s El Diario de Hoy newspaper: ‘I believe that this demand is part of the pressure from this family to divide the proceeds of royalties.

‘Many believe the book is making my client a rich man, but what he will earn is much less than people think.’

Mother Shaves Daughter’s Hair, Declares Her A Cancer Patient Just To Raise Money

Authorities in Texas said they arrested a mother accused of shaving her 7-year-old daughter’s head and fraudulently claiming the child had cancer. The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office said Juanita Garcia, 46, organized multiple fundraisers to obtain money she claimed was needed for her 7-year-old daughter’s cancer treatments.

The sheriff’s office said a joint investigation with Child Protective Services found Garcia would tell people in person and on social media that the child was terminal and had only months to live.

Authorities said Garcia went so far as to shave her daughter’s head and actually convinced the child she was suffering from the disease.

However, investigators said the girl was actually in perfect health, and Garcia admitted during questioning that she had made up the cancer story to scam money out of generous strangers.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office has urged people to verify and confirm information from fundraisers that they choose to participate in.

Garcia was booked into the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center on a felony charge of exploitation of a child. She was ordered held in lieu of $10,000 bond.
