Police arrests herbalist who was paid N700,000 to aid dreaded kidnapper Vampire’s escape

The police high command has arrested the most trusted herbalist of the late kidnap-for-ransom kingpin, Henry Chibueze, popularly known as Vampire, who had in the last few years operated with terror in the Southeastern and South-South states.

According to police sources at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the 55-year-old ‘medicine man’, Iweajuo Gad, was arrested in his shrine at Asoeme Town in Aba, Abia State on Sunday by the Inspector General of Police’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT).

According to the source, “in continuation of the operations in mopping up Vampire’s gang members in the Southeast, IRT operatives arrested one Iweajuo Gad from Asoeme Town in Aba, Abia South Local Council. The suspect is the number one herbalist of Vampire and many other groups of armed robbers and kidnappers.

“He further confessed to interrogators that he led three herbalists to perform special rituals to secure Vampire’s rescue from the High Court in Owerri. He told detectives that the names of seven prison service officers were brought to him by Vampire’s brother to perfect the rituals that would disorganise and destabilise the officers during the rescue.  They were given N200,000 for the ritual and one week after the successful rescue, Vampire sent N500,000 to him.”

Vampire, a notorious kidnapper in South East and South South axis, was killed in a shootout with the police last week Thursday. According to the police spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, a Chief Superintendent of Police, Henry Chibueze, aka Vampire, was killed at Omu Awa forest, in Ikwerre, Rivers State.

Chibueze, who was paraded by the DSS before the state governor in 2015 admitted to have carried out several kidnappings in the state and beyond before his arrest. After Chibueze’s escape in January, Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, announced a N5 million bounty for information that would lead to his arrest.

Police reveals how kidnap kingpin ‘Vampire’ killed over 200 people.

The Nigerian police have provided more information on the activities of the late kidnap and armed robbery kingpin, Henry Chibueze, otherwise known as “Vampire”.

Mr. Chibueze was reportedly killed around 1 a.m on Thursday in Omu Awa forest in Ikwere Local Government Area, Rivers State, during a gun battle with the police.

He was the leader of a gang that was responsible for many kidnaps and armed robbery attacks in Imo, Rivers, Delta and other states in the south-south and the south-east zones of the country.

The police while parading in Owerri, Imo State, five other members of the gang caught alive during the operation by the IGP Intelligence Response Team, IRT, said the late “Vampire” killed over 200 people through his criminal activities.

The parade of the suspects was done by the Force spokesperson, Jimoh Moshood, who flew into the state from Abuja.

Among the people said to have been brutally killed the late “Vampire” was his own girlfriend, Sandra Ijedinma, whom he had accused of stealing his N45 million which was his share from a N110 million ransom collected from a family of one of their kidnap victims in Omoku, Rivers State.

The police said “Vampire” killed eight members of Ms. Ijedinma’s family, among them six children, in Lagos.

The police said the late crime kingpin had also confessed to the killing of a member of the Imo State House of Assembly at Orji in 2015, as well as the kidnap and the eventual murder of a traditional ruler’s wife from Mbaise that same year. The woman corpse has not still be found till date, the police said.

He was also said to have killed three members, including a woman, from a particular family in Nkwere in 2012 after collecting ransom from the family.

“Henry Chibueze aka ‘Vampire’ (deceased) was a cultist who later turned a vicious and dangerous kidnapper and armed robber, and was declared wanted since 2013,” Mr. Moshood said during the parade of the suspects.

He and his gang members were about to be arraigned when they escaped from the premises of the Owerri High Court on January 27, 2017, assisted by his gang members.

The five suspected members of the gang paraded by the police are Obinna Ela, 26, a native Of Orlu, Imo State; Arinze Abecheta, 24, a native Okohia, Isiala Mbano, Imo; and Chukwu Ebuka, 23, Ohohia, Isiala Mbano, Imo State.

Others are Samuel Ugochukwu, 24, Arochukwu Local Government Area, Abia State, and Clifford Aheana, from Omu Awa, Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State.

The police said that five AK 47 rifles and three hundred rounds of AK 47 ammunition were recovered from the operation.

The police said they also recovered charm from the body of the deceased leader of the gang.

The police said the suspects will be charged to court after investigation.

Dreaded Kidnap Kingpin, Henry Chibueze aka ‘Vampire’ Shot Dead By Police.

The police said  they had killed a dreaded and deadly kidnap-for-ransom kingpin, Henry Chibueze, notoriously known as `Vampire’, in Omu Awa forest, Ikwerre Local Government Area in Rivers state.

Police Spokesman, CSP Jimoh Moshood, said Chibueze was killed by the Police Special Forces, led by the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team at 1 a.m. on Thursday.

He said that five suspected members of the gang were also arrested and cache of arms and ammunition recovered from them.

The force spokesman said the gang had been responsible for so many kidnappings and robbery attacks in Imo, Abia, Rivers, Delta and other states in the South-East and South-South.

He said that the arrested members of the gang would be presented to newsmen and charged to court on completion of investigation.

Chibueze, the Vampire, was the criminal spirited away by his gang members on 27 January in the premises of an Owerri High Court.

He was arrested in 2015 and had been in prison custody following the kidnap of the wife of a government official.

Chibueze who was brought to the court along with other arrested suspects escaped when gunmen in a sports utility vehicle which had been parked at the premises opened fire immediately he disembarked from the prison van.

The Kidnapper was then spirited away by the gunmen, leaving five Prisons officials and some bystanders wounded by the gunfire. Two other suspects were stolen along with him.

The Public Relations officer of Prisons, Mr James Madugba, said the accomplices had been mistaken for operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), hence no alarm was raised when they were spotted at the court.
