‘World’s heaviest woman’ undergoes surgery in India, loses 100 kgs.

Indian doctors said Thursday that an Egyptian who was believed to be the world’s heaviest woman had successfully undergone weight-loss surgery after losing over 100 kilograms (220 pounds).

Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty, who previously weighed around 500 kilos, had not left her house in Egypt in over two decades until arriving in Mumbai last month for bariatric surgery.

“We are happy to inform all well-wishers that the medical team of Saifee Hospital has successfully performed the surgery on Eman Ahmed,” said a statement.

“She is now on oral fluids and accepting them well. The future course of action for the medical team working on her will be to correct all her associated medical problems, to get her fit enough to fly back to Egypt as soon as possible,” it added.

A spokeswoman for Dr Muffazal Lakdawala, who is leading Abd El Aty’s treatment, said the 37-year-old Egyptian’s weight had been brought under 400 kilograms since she arrived in Mumbai in early February.

“Eman has lost over 100 kilograms and has been shedding weight gradually on a daily basis with all the treatment and support,” she told AFP.

The Egyptian, who is from the Mediterranean port city of Alexandria, was flown to India’s commercial capital in a specially modified Airbus on Saturday 11 February for treatment.

Abd El Aty’s sister had approached Lakdawala, a specialist weight-loss surgeon, in October, saying her sibling needed urgent medical attention.

Her family told the doctor that as a child she was diagnosed with elephantiasis, a condition that causes the limbs and other body parts to swell, leaving her almost immobile.

Abd El Aty has suffered a stroke and faced a series of other serious ailments owing to her weight including diabetes, high blood pressure, hypertension and sleep deprivation.

Her request for an Indian visa was initially denied, but she was granted passage after tweeting a plea for help directly to India’s foreign minister, who intervened.

Abd El Aty had a long wait as no airlines were willing to fly her due to her health complications.

Bariatric surgery is a stomach-shrinking bypass procedure carried out on those wanting to lose excessive weight.

It is increasingly common in India, which has a growing problem with obesity, particularly in urban areas.

India is a major destination for medical tourists seeking quality services and no waiting lists at a fraction of the cost of western countries.

Super Falcons’ defender undergoes surgery.

Super Falcons defender, Onome Ebi, has undergone a successful surgery on her broken arm suffered during the just concluded Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The surgery was conducted on Tuesday at the National Hospital in Abuja.

Ebi, who is one of the veterans in the Super Falcons team that won a record eight African title last weekend, gave glory to God for the successful operation carried out on her.

She wrote on her Instagram page: “Thank you Lord God for save surgery, receive all thy glory in Jesus name Amen”.

Though we understand that the NFF footed the bill for Ebi’s surgery, the Federation is still defaulting on bonuses to the injured defender and her teammates that did Nigeria proud yet again at the AWCON 2016.

The NFF through their General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi on Tuesday pledged to pay players and officials of the senior women national team, Super Falcons, all their entitlements for winning the Women Africa Cup of Nations the eighth time, saying the money was not readily available at the moment.

Court Suspends Okah’s Trial

A Federal High Court, Abuja, on Monday suspended the trial of alleged mastermind of Abuja 2010 Independent Day bombing, Charles Okah, pending his recovery from surgery in the National Hospital.

“In view of the absence of the accused who had undergone a medical surgery in the National Hospital, Abuja, the trial shall be suspended till March 10 at 11:30 a.m,’’ Justice Gabriel Kolawole, ruled.

Kolawole said that the suspension would help him to recover and attend his trial.

He, however, ordered that Obi Nwabueze, standing trial alongside Okah be remanded in kuje prison and produced at the next adjourned date.

At the last sitting, the court ordered the Nigeria Prison Service to provide tight security at hospital during the period Okah was expected to undergo surgery.

The court had ordered that after the surgery, Okah would be produced in court on the next adjourned date to face his trial.

ABSURD: Man With Unusual Growth Due For Surgery

A Bangladeshi father dubbed “Tree Man” for massive bark-like warts on his hands and feet will finally have surgery to remove the growths that first began appearing 10 years ago, a hospital said Sunday.

Abul Bajandar, from the southern district of Khulna, was undergoing preparations for the surgery to cut out the growths weighing at least five kilogrammes (11 pounds) that have smothered his hands and feet.

“Initially, I thought that they’re harmless,” the 26-year-old told AFP at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

“But slowly I lost all my ability to work. There are now dozens of two to three inch roots in both my hands. And there are some small ones in my legs,” said Bajandar who was forced to quit working as a bicycle puller.

A team of doctors has been formed to perform the operation at DMCH, Bangladesh’s largest state-run hospital, which has decided to waive costs of the treatment.

Tests are underway to ensure Bajandar’s root-like warts can be removed surgically without damaging major nerves or causing any other health problems.

The massive warts, which first started appearing when he was a teenager but began spreading rapidly four years ago, have been diagnosed as epidermodysplasia verruciformis, an extremely rare genetic skin disease that makes the person susceptible to skin growths.

“Popularly it is known as tree-man disease,” DMCH director Samanta Lal Sen told AFP.

“As far as we know there are three such cases in the world including Abul Bajandar. It is the first time we have found such a rare case in Bangladesh,” he said.

Indian Man Born With 4 Legs Becomes The Village Outcast

An Indian man who was born with four legs has become an outcast after villagers labelled him a devil.
Arun Rajput has had the two extra limbs – believed to be from an undeveloped parasitic twin – dangling from his back since birth.
But the 20-year-old says he has been forced to live the life of a recluse by those in the remote village of Farrukhabad in Uttar Pradesh, northern India.
Rajput said:

“People laugh at me. They say I am a devil. No one respects me here because I look different. But I want to be like one of them. I want to work like other man.”

The unusual defect has seen Rajput face jibes and name calling while growing up and many locals said his family was cursed.

His extra limbs mean he cannot sit properly, walking has become uncomfortable and he has to have tailor made trousers developed.

But the young man says he does not want to be treated any differently from others.

“I want to do normal things and be treated like a normal person,” he said.

Now, Rajput who is the eldest of four siblings, is eager to have a surgery so that he can get a good education and fulfil his dream of becoming a teacher.
Rajput’s poor parents, who work as daily wage labourers on farms, had taken him to several doctors when he was a kid but returned home when they were told the surgery would cost them ‘exorbitant’ amount.

He added: “I want to take care of my parents. I want to study and become a teacher.”

His mother Lila Devi, 45, said:

“He was born after 12 years of my marriage. We had eagerly waited for his arrival but when he was born, I could not believe my eyes.

“He was very weak. We took him to many doctors but no one took the guarantee. “People call him with bad names. It hurts me most when they call him devil.

“He is a very gentle child. Very hardworking and wants to live a respectable life. I hope he gets rid of the extra limb and can be one of us.”

Rajput and his mother are now hoping for a possible surgery so he can lead a normal life.

Boy ‘Born With 3 Penises’ Undergoes Pioneering Surgery To Leave Him With Just One

A little boy born with three penises in an incredibly rare occurrence has undergone pioneering surgery to correct the abnormality. According to reports, the two-year-old pictured above with his mum suffers from diphallia, a rare condition where a male is born with two penises.

He also had a third penis considered rudimentary, or undeveloped. In addition, the unnamed boy was born without an anus.

However, last month, he went under the knife to correct the physical abnormalities, and his family are now hopeful that he will be able to “lead a normal life”.

The boy, from Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh, India, was able to pass urine through one of the penises. Only two had erectile tissue, which is responsible for sexual function. He was taken by his mother to Sion Hospital in Mumbai for the six-hour operation. Dr Vishesh Dixit, paediatric surgeon, said: “There was a huge soft boney mass and tissue to which the penises were attached. However, the anus was absent.”

Telling how the mass and rudimentary penis were removed, he added: “The two functional penises were fused into one by wrapping a mass of skin around them.”

He explained that the boy had already undergone a colostomy, where surgeons made an incision in his stomach, enabling him to get rid of waste.

Describing the latest operation, he said: “Further, an anal path was created through the boy’s rectum to facilitate the passage of excreta.”

Providing the surgery to create the anal path proves successful, the incision in the boy’s stomach will be closed in a separate procedure later this month.

Doctors said his sexual function will be and his fertility will not be affected. There have been just 100 cases of diphallia reported since 1609.

Woman Dies After Botched Butt Implant Surgery

The family of a 29-year-old woman who flew to Mexico for plastic surgery and died shortly after the operation is calling for more stringent regulations and warning people against traveling overseas for plastic surgery.

In March, Australian resident Evita Sarmonikas traveled to Mexicali, Mexico, to get butt implants and died shortly after the procedure, according to ABC News. An initial autopsy report listed the cause of death as a pulmonary embolism, but Sarmonikas’s sister Andrea says her family insisted on getting an independent autopsy, the results of which show that Sarmonikas died from a lack of oxygen caused by internal bleeding.

“We wanted to believe it was a natural death, but we knew something wasn’t right,” Andrea said.

The senior lawmaker named the baby “Emmanuel” and said his choice of name was influenced by indications that “God is with us”.

The lawmaker after interacting with the children, offered to raise bills required to put Baby Emmanuel in a normal shape including payment for surgery to be carried out abroad. The Hospice had earlier expressed sadness that it’s in short of $7,000 to send the baby for surgery in India.

Mr. Dabiri who is also founder of Ikotun Nursery and Primary School, Surulere also granted full scholarship to one of the children in the Hospice.

Mrs Adedoyin expressed appreciation for the kind gesture of Gbajabiamila and said that the Hospice would continue to thrive on the support of well meaning Nigerians.

Joan Rivers’ Surgeon in Selfie Scandal

0

Joan Rivers‘  ear, nose, and throat doctor has been reported to have taken a selfie with the comedienne while she was under general anesthesia.

Reports have it that a Yorkville Endoscopy staff member told investigators that the photograph was taken while Rivers was in the procedure room for her throat surgery.

The 81-year-old entertainer was in the clinic to undergo a scheduled endoscopy by gastroenterologist and the clinic’s medical director Dr. Lawrence Cohen, according to reports. After that procedure, reports also claim that Rivers also underwent an unauthorized vocal cord biopsy performed by a physician, who hasn’t been identified.

On Friday Yorkville Endoscopy announced Dr. Cohen was no longer medical director of the clinic, located in Manhattan. Reports are conflicting as to whether he voluntarily stepped down or was fired.
