Tambuwal approves recruitment of 96 science teachers, 20 state counsels.

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has approved the recruitment of 96 new science and technology teachers 20 lawyers to serve as counsels in the Sokoto state ministries of science and technology and justice respectively.

A statement issued in Sokoto Monday by the Governor’s spokesman, Malam Imam Imam, said the new recruits will improve the manpower needs of the two ministries, and enhance productivity in the state civil service.

“Those to be employed as teachers will have the necessary qualifications for teaching and will be posted to secondary schools under the Ministry of Science and Technology.

As for the lawyers, they will augment the existing 56 lawyers in the ministry of justice. They will serve as replacement for state counsels who retired or died while on duty, as well as those who joined the federal judiciary,” the statement added.

Reports from Sokoto indicate that so far, the state civil service commission has received no fewer than 300 applications from various candidates seeking to fill in the vacant posts announced.

Few days ago, the state government announced the recuritment of 21 fresh doctors for the state ministry of health, while last year, 500 teachers were recruited to teach in various secondary schools across the state.

Tambuwal Promises Not To Sack Teachers

Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, has promised that his administration will not sack any teacher from the state civil service.

 

“But we will not fail to reassign any teacher that does not have the requisite qualifications to be in the classroom,” Tambuwal said on Monday in Dogon-Daji, Tambuwal Local Government Area.

 

The governor made the promise in his address at the annual national congress of the old Boys’ association of his Alma-mater, Government Secondary School, Dogon Daji.

 

He said: “Beginning from the next budget, government will ensure continuous training and retraining of teachers to update their knowledge and make them conform to modern teaching techniques.

“Huge sums of money have been budgeted for that purpose.

 

Let me announce it here that we do not plan to retrench any teacher working with the state government. In fact we need qualified teachers to address shortfall in numbers.

 

What we will not condone in our schools are unqualified teachers who have nothing to offer our children.

 

If after giving you the necessary training, we discovered that you do not have the capacity or enthusiasm to teach, we will reassign you to where your expertise if most needed.”

 

While commending the executive of the association for its diligence in the face of mounting challenges, Tambuwal solicited its support in government’s efforts to take Sokoto state to greater heights.

 

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that at the end of the congress, Alhaji Nasiru Idris was elected national President of the association while Abdullahi Muhammed was elected Secretary.

Sokoto State Govt To Sustain Non-Discriminatory Fees In Schools – Tambuwal

Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state on Sunday pledged to sustain the non-discriminatory policy on payment of school fees introduced by his predecessor, Sen. Aliyu Wamakko.

 

Tambuwal said this in Sokoto when he hosted the Primate of Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh, who led members of the church on a Christmas courtesy visit.

 

He said: “As part of measures to boost communal harmony, my administration will sustain the policy of non-discriminatory fees paid by all students in public schools started by the last administration.”

 

The equally invited all Nigerians willing to contribute to the development of education to come to the state and exhibit their talents.

 

He enjoined Christians to also sustain the centuries old peaceful and harmonious co-existence with their neighbours in the state.

 

Okoh had earlier said that Nigeria can learn a lot from Sokoto’s peaceful disposition for rapid development of the country.

 

He said: “Even though there a one or two issues with conflicts in Sokoto in the past, that has not affected the overall peaceful disposition of the state.”

 

The cleric commended the Sokoto Government for its efforts in promoting harmony among diverse religious and ethnic groups in the state.

 

While urging all Nigerians to take the issue of protection of environment seriously, Okoh said the dangers posed by desertification is real and should be accorded the attention it deserves.

Police Ban Religious Processions In Sokoto State

The Police in Sokoto have banned indefinitely all forms of processions by all religious groups across the 23 local government areas of the state.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Spokesman of the state Police Command, El-Mustapha Sani, and issued to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto on Friday .

“The action is to maintain law and order in the state and the country, in view of the recent obnoxious happenings in some parts of Nigeria.

“This is also in order not to allow hoodlums to hijack such processions by any religious groups.

“Subsequently, all members of the general public are hereby advised not to flout the ban in their own interest and the interest of the peace of the state,” it said.

The statement further urged members of the public to go about their lawful activities .

It assured that the police and other security agencies in the state were ready to protect the lives and property of all law abiding residents of the state.

Sokoto Govt, FG, World bank To Commit N4.9bn To Irrigation Scheme – Tambuwal

Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State said the Federal Government, World bank and the state government would commit over N4.9 billion for the reclamation of farms in the Kware Irrigation Scheme.

 

A statement by Tambuwal’s Spokesman, Imam Imam in Sokoto on Sunday, said that Tambuwal was speaking when a team of the partner agencies visited Sokoto.

 

He said the scheme, tagged, ”Transforming Irrigation Management in Nigeria (TRIMIN) will support and improve agricultural productivity through strengthened institutional arrangement and improved access to irrigation drainage services.

 

”Our government will commit about N460 million while our partners will provide the rest.

 

” It involves construction of 175 irrigation water conveyance canals, 120 units of hydraulic structure, 55 kilometres of feeder roads, five units of primary schools, two primary healthcare centres and two community markets.

 

“The target is to enhance agricultural growth and production, provide job opportunities, tackle poverty among the populace and also help in developing rice value chain by boosting local rice milling in our state.”

 

Tambuwal said that his administration was partnering the Federal Government and the World Bank to develop large scale irrigation scheme in the state.

 

The statement quoted the governor saying ” the scheme will also complement existing major agricultural initiatives and focus on improving large-scale public irrigation in Sokoto and some selected states in the North.

 

In his remarks, TRIMIN’s Project Coordinator, Mr Peter Manjok, said ”given the global growing competitiveness in irrigated agricultural production, a window of opportunity was opened to help raise income and reduce poverty in the country.”

 

According to him, the scheme, which will run for seven years, will involve the transfer of tertiary irrigation and drainage facilities to registered operators and Water User Associations (WUAs) in affected areas.

6 000 Dump APC for PDP in Sokoto State, Find Out Who..

No fewer than 6 000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Thursday defected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The defectors were received in Wamakko by Alhaji Ibrahim Milgoma, Chairman of PDP in Sokoto state. The spokesman for the defectors, Alhaji Abubakar Gedawa, said they joined the PDP to get justice and equity. “We defected to the PDP from APC to ensure the success of the PDP at all levels in the upcoming general elections”, Gedawa said.

The governorship candidate of PDP in the state, Abdallah Wali, promised that he would ensure justice and equity in the state if elected. Former Gov. Attahiru Bafarawa of the Spkoto state called on the people of the area to vote massively for the PDP during the polls. “I did my best to develop the local government when I was the governor of the state and Wali will continue from where I stopped, if elected as governor”, he said.

On his part, Milgoma said the leadership of the party would do its best to ensure that the APC-led state government was voted out of office on February 14. “The PDP will sweep the forthcoming elections in the state and across Nigeria”, Milgoma said.
