Explosion Rocks NNPC Filling Station In Yola

A deadly explosion has rocked Yola, sending wild flames into the atmosphere. The deadly explosion, which occurred at the Wuro-jobe area of the metropolis, around 8pm is believed to have claimed two cars, which were charred beyond repair, sending motorist who queued around the vicinity to scamper for their dear lives.

No live was claimed in the explosion, eye witness said.

The explosion, according to a military officer who spoke from the scene, was from a filling station belonging to Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, licensed marketer.

According to him the fire which has been raging for over an hour, has defied the intervention of fire fighters stationed at Faro bottling company located at  wuro-jobe the scene of the incidence.

The cause of the fire still remains unknown at the time of filling this report.

But eye witnesses who rushed to the scene following the explosion, are lamenting the severity of the fire which they claimed had been amplified by the petroleum products contained in underground tank of the filling station.

3 Killed, 7 Injured As Explosion Rocks Agip Pipeline

Three persons were yesterday burnt beyond recognition and seven others sustained various degrees of burns following an explosion that hit the pipeline belonging to the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) in Olugboboro community in Olodiama clan of Southern Ijaw local government area of Bayelsa State.

The explosion,which occurred on Easter Sunday while some technical staff of an Oil contacting firm known as Maco Marine,were working to clamp a ruptured section of the Agip Pipeline,was brought under control on  Monday.

Three of the victims, including an underwater welder identified as  Nelson Negibo,were burnt beyond recognition and their corpses recovered on Monday after the fire subsided.

Two of the victims were further identified as indigenes of Ada-ma in Twon-Brass of Brass local government area of the state.

Most of the victims with various degrees of burns, according to community sources, have been flown to various clinics in Bayelsa and Rivers States.

Confirming the incident, the state coordinator of the environmental group known as Environmental Right Action (ERA),Comrade Morris Alagoa,described the incident as a shocking and tragic.

Explosion Rocks CBN Building In Calabar

An explosion has been reported in the Central Bank of Nigeria building, along Calabar Road, Calabar, Cross River state, around 12:30pm on Friday.

The cause of the explosion is unknown.

A source at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar, said that scores of injured persons were seen being brought into the emergency unit of the hospital.

“I could count up to seven people with serious burns,” the source said.

Leadership Crisis Rocks PDP Caucus Over House Committee Chairmanship

Some members of the Peoples Democratic Party in the House of Representatives are contemplating passing a vote of no confidence on their leadership over what they described as partisanship and favouritism in the appointments of members of the party into the standing committees of the House.

Sources among the aggrieved PDP lawmakers  mainly from the South-west caucus said that they  are up in arms against the  leadership led by Minority Leader, Hon. Leo Ogor,  over the way the affairs of the caucus are being managed,  alleging that the leaders are running a one man show and  not consulting other members before taking important decision that affect  them.

The lawmaker who wants to remain anonymous  also  accused the leadership of favouring PDP members from the South-south in the appointments made so far including the ongoing constitution of the membership of the standing committee of the House.  They also accused some South-south governors of using money to influence the appointments of South-south members in the minority caucus to juicy House committee chairmanship positions to the detriment of  members  from other zones.

“We (PDP members from the South-west)  are even contemplating pulling out of PDP if the leadership continues to marginalise us in the scheme of things, particularly in the composition of leadership of the committees…”
