Clattenburg has now taken up a job with the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF).

The Professional Match Official Limited (PGMOL) has issued a statement praising his contributions to the English game.

“PGMOL would like to wish Mark Clattenburg well as he prepares for his move to the Saudi Arabian Football Federation,” the statement read.

“Since joining the PGMOL Select Group in 2004, Mark developed into one of our top officials, refereeing at the highest level and setting standards for others to follow.

“His accomplishments are numerous and last season saw Mark achieve a memorable treble, on top of another consistently excellent season in the Premier League, as he officiated three major cup finals – the FA Cup final, the UEFA Champions League final and the UEFA Euro 2016 final.

“Mark is a talented referee, he has been a great asset to the English game and hopefully an inspiration to those who want to get into refereeing at the grass roots of the game.

“We understand this is an exciting opportunity for Mark as well as further underlining what high esteem English match officials are held throughout the world game.”

Clattenburg took charge of his first Football League game as a 25-year-old in a third division match between Chesterfield and York City.

Four years later, he had ascended to the Premier League, where his first match was Crystal Palace’s game against Everton.

Referee robbed us against Eagles in Uyo – Algeria coach

Algeria coach Georges Leekens claims the Desert Foxes were robbed by Gambian referee Bakary Gassama against the Super Eagles in their Russia 2018 World Cup Group B qualifier in Uyo on Saturday.

Chelsea right wing-back Victor Moses struck a brace as Nigeria beat Algeria 3-1 to pick up their second win in the World Cup qualifiers and open up a four-point lead at the top of the table – after Cameroon were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Zambia in the group’s other fixture.

The North Africans, who have just a point after two games, are left with a mountain to climb to keep alive their chances of qualifying for the World Cup for the fifth time, having played in the tournament in 1982, 1986, 2010 and 2014.

And the Greens’ Belgian manager Leekens, who vowed the 1990 African champions would strive to get their qualification hopes back on track, believes the result of the Uyo encounter could have been different had the referee not accepted Nigeria’s second goal from Mikel Obi when the score was 1-0.

Mikel, who is out of favour at Chelsea, fired in from close range three minutes before half time after receiving a through-ball from Oghenekaro Etebo with the Algeria defence attempting keep him offside.

“Nigeria’s second goal is not valid. There was indeed an offside position,” the 67-year-old former Belgium manager was quoted as saying by the influential Algerian newspaper Le Buteur on Sunday.

“The goal somewhat disorganised my players, especially before the break. If the score had remained 1-0, we would have returned in the second half.”

Lekeens says he is disappointed his team did not take their chances in the clash, lamenting a lack of killer instinct among his forwards.

He said, “When you play at this level, you do not allow yourself to miss many good opportunities in front of goal. We missed no fewer than four chances. In a match like this and against an opponent like Nigeria, it was necessary to have a better efficiency. “

The former Lokeren manager refused to blame his team’s defeat on injuries to key players ahead of the fixture.

Leekens added, “Let us also not forget that we played a quality Nigerian team. We found it difficult against them. This is what explains the result.”

Swedish Defender Sent Off For Celebration After Scoring Hat Trick (See Video)

The defender identified as Medi Dresevic playing in the third tier division of Swedish football for Norrby IF last night thrashed Tvaaker 6-1 thanks to a hat-trick from 24-year-old defender Medi Dresevic.

But, his celebration of running to the stands and applauding himself did not go down well with the referee who had handed him a first yellow card earlier in the game.

He was duly sent off and received some harsh words from his Norrby teammates. He’ll miss their next game. Watch the video below and tell us if he did anything wrong here or the Referee was just being high Handed giving him a second yellow that led to a red Card.

Argentine Player Shoots Referee Dead & Injures Another Player After He Was Given Red Card

An amateur football match was marred by violence after a player shot and killed a referee and also injured another player after he was given a red card. According to the report bt MirrorSport, Police say referee Cesar Flores, 48, showed the assailant a red card for making a heavy tackle on an opponent. The player, who is at large, then retrieved a gun from his bag and shot Flores three times. He also wounded another player, 25-year-old Walter Zarate, before fleeing the scene.

Walter Zarate, was taken to hospital, though he is not in critical condition.

“It all happened during the match,” a police spokesman said. “We don’t know what happened with the referee but the player was angry and went to get his gun and killed him.”

The shooting appears to have taken place during an amateur game that the Argentina’s Football Federation might not have organized. If so, this looks like a case of social problems in the South American nation spilling onto the field of play.

Neymar Denies Copa America Fracas: “I Was Waiting For The Ref… But Nothing Happened”!

The Barcelona superstar was dismissed against Colombia but he maintains that he is innocent, while claiming that Dunga’s side can win the tournament without him

Neymar has denied trying to attack referee Enrique Ossess after Brazil‘s 1-0 loss to Colombia last week, and insists that he left the Copa America voluntarily.

The forward departed Chile on Monday after receiving a four-match suspension for attempting to headbutt Jeison Murillo during the Selecao’s 1-0 defeat to Colombia last Thursday before allegedly insulting the official.

Neymar, though, says that the decision for him to leave Brazil’s base was a joint one, and he has defended his innocence over the furore in Santiago.

“It was a family decision to leave,” he told Jornal Nacional. “I talked to my father, and then I told Dunga and team manager Gilmar Rinaldi. They agreed.

“Nothing happened at the tunnel, basically. I was inside of it, and waiting to ask the ref why he dismissed me. Then a huddle took place and security guards came in, thinking I was nervous, that I wanted to attack him.

“That’s how it came to this.”

Despite his absence, Neymar remains confident that his compatriots will eventually win the tournament after seeing them progress to the quarter-finals from Group C.

“I think there’s a lot of life in Selecao without Neymar. The players have shown that they can win games and win Copa America,” the Barcelona forward told Jornal Nacional.

“Brazil has plenty of great players. I’m absolutely confident of this team and the players that are there representing it. They are all big names who’ll take care of business.”

Brazil will face Paraguay, the team that knocked them out on penalties at the same stage in 2011, this Saturday.
