PDP National Caucus Endorses Move To Reconcile Members

The extended national caucus of  PDP has endorsed the peace move by the Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee to reconcile with the disputed National Chairman of the party, Alhaji  Ali Modu Sheriff and his faction.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja while briefing newsmen after the party’s caucus meeting.

Adeyeye said that the purpose of the meeting was to brief the caucus on the move and get its endorsement.

The caucus is made up of PDP governors, National Assembly caucus, Board of Trustees and other stakeholders.

“Members of the caretaker committee are not there on their own, they were appointed by the party and they have to carry the party along in all they are doing.

“The peace move has been finally endorsed and supported by members of caucus without any dissent voice,” he said.

Adeyeye, however, said there were no factions in the party but aggrieved members.

“We don’t have factions in PDP. There are some of our members who are aggrieved.

“We are making moves to ensure peace in the party,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls  that Makarfi and Sheriff in September expressed determination to settle the party leadership crisis.

The peace committee is expected to be inaugurated on Monday to reunite the party.

PDP Looks Up To Jonathan, Lamido, Mark To Lead Reconciliation

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has initiated moves to end leadership tussle between senators Ahmed Makarfi and Ali Modu Sheriff.
The move came on the wake of a meeting by various stakeholders of the party scheduled to hold today in Abuja.

Consequently, the PDP had established a 24-man joint reconciliation committee and started shopping for prominent party chieftains to steer affairs of the committee.

The Daily Trust, yesterday, gathered from reliable PDP stalwarts that the party had penciled down the names of former president Goodluck Jonathan, former Senate president, David Mark and former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido for chairmanship of the committee.

A reliable source close to Sheriff and Makarfi, told our correspondent in a telephone interview, yesterday, that the Board of Trustees (BoT), National Assembly Caucus, PDP Governors’ Forum and other organs and stakeholders of the party, were shopping for a neutral person, who possessed impeccable character, integrity and was generally accepted, to chair the committee.

He said that Jonathan, Mark and Lamido were accepted by Sheriff and Makarfi, explaining that the three eminent politicians were chosen because of their understanding and workings of the party and politics in Nigeria.

He said that the Sheriff’s camp and the Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee agreed to nominate 12 persons each to form the reconciliation committee.
“We have learnt our lessons since after the general elections,” he said.

When contacted on telephone, the national legal adviser and member of the Sheriff-led National Working Committee (NWC), Barrister Bashir Maidugu, said that the 12 persons were nominated by the Sheriff’s camp to serve in the committee.

Maidugu said that the names of the committee members would be made public when the Makarfi-led caretaker committee made names of its representatives known.

However, as at press time, Senator Makarfi and the spokesman of the PDP Caretaker Committee, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, were yet to respond to a text message sent to them on why lists of their nominees were not yet ready.

On the Abuja meeting, a chieftain of the party, ?Prof. Tunde Adeniran, told our correspondent yesterday that the BoT, PDP governors, National Assembly Caucus and the NEC would meet today at the Yar’adua Centre.

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose and his estranged ally and state secretary of the People’s Democratic Party, Dr. Tope Aluko, seem to have put the past behind them.
This is as the two yesterday held a peace talk to end their feud of over a year.

 

Speaking to newsmen, Fayose said “I’m the father of all. For whatever that happened, I’m the father and I should accommodate everybody.
“Even if he has said anything, Aluko remains my boy, my son.

In a brief remark, Aluko affirmed all is now well between him and the Governor.

 

“There is peace. This is about peace,” he said.

 

Reminded he was said he was betrayed, Aluko replied: “Am I not standing with him (Fayose) now?”

APC Set To Reconcile Saraki, Tinubu

Some leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are said to have started a process to reconcile the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and the national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu.

The duo fell apart following the sharp differences over the choice of the party’s candidates for the top seats in the National Assembly.

The leaders decided to intervene and settle the dispute in view of its implications for the image of the party and the stability of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The party leaders have already opened a line of communication between the two .

Jonathan, Obasanjo, Amaechi Reconcile

It is no longer news that there has been no love lost between President Goodluck Jonathan, former president Olusegun Obasanjo and the Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi.

However, the last Council of State meeting hosted by President Jonathan yesterday, offered an opportunity for the three men to reconcile even if  it was for the camera.

Before the commencement of the Council meeting, the governors across party divide were seen joking, back slapping one another and discussing in groups.

President Jonathan was also seen laughing, shaking  and holding hands with Obasanjo.But the one that caught everyone’s attention was when the President, while waiting for the valedictory photo-session at the fore court of the Presidential Villa,  had a handshake with the governors around him, and on sighting Amaechi, playfully hit him severally, with his fist on the shoulder and the Rivers State governor bowed, laughing and holding the President’s hand all the while, saying “Your Excellency.”

Obasanjo has been a constant critic of Jonathan’s administration, the latest being in February, when the elections were postponed.

The former president, had at his Hilltop Mansion residence in Abeokuta, likened the politics played by Jonathan to “the do-or-die” politics played by the former President of Cote d’Ivoire, Laurent Gbagbo.

Also, Obasanjo, while reacting to the postponement of the general elections, said it was a grand plan by Jonathan to perpetuate himself in office till the situation became clear that the presidential election would favour him.

President Jonathan had in a swift reaction, fired back, saying the allegations were baseless and absurd.

Obasanjo had also in an 18-page letter a year ago, accused the President of deceit, deception, dishonesty, incompetence, having a killer squad and clannishness among others.

The Rivers State governor on his part, had always pointed fingers at the president and his wife, Patience on any crisis in his state.

Moved by the camaraderie seen inside and outside the Council chambers, a journalist later asked Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State how that could be translated to the common man on the street,  and he replied: “I told you that one of the former heads of state moved for all these to be recorded, so that we make it as part of the tradition. Politics is not war.

Yes, there is a price, but the moment there is a decision and someone gets the price, everyone should come back and wait for another chance.

“So, the camaraderie that you noticed, is how it should be and we should send it down to our communities, to our people; so that even in one house, you can afford to vote for different parties but the moment results are announced, you will remain brothers and not enemies.”

IBB, Abdulsalami Reconcile Aliyu With Deputy

Governor Babangida Aliyu and his deputy, Hon Ahmed Musa Ibeto, former heads of state, Generals Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar have moved to reconcile the duo.

Reports gathered yesterday in Minna that the former Nigerian leaders held a reconciliation meeting with the governor and his deputy at the residence of Abdulsalami last Thursday.

It was gathered that the meeting was at the instance of the generals who felt that their public display of their political difference was causing them embarrassment and tension in the state and decided to nip it in the bud before it degenerated to another level.

PDP Plans To Reconcile With Aggrieved Members

Worried over the  seeming growing acceptance of the APC and its candidates among Nigerians ahead of the forthcoming general elections, President Goodluck Jonathan and the leadership of the PDP have lately stepped up moves to reconcile with aggrieved PDP members, reports.

The party has lined up series of meetings with the parties candidates in the polls and aggrieved members with a view of turning the tide against the APC.

One of such meetings was held on Sunday when the President Jonathan and the party leadership met with the governorship candidates of the party in all the state where governorship election would be held.

President Jonathan is expected to hold a similar meeting with the party’s National Assembly candidates before the March 28 elections.

The President will also be meeting with states Houses of Assembly candidates before the April 11 elections.

PDP Set to Reconcile with Obasanjo, “Father of All”

PDP is set to pacify former President Olusegun Obasanjo to reconsider his decision of dumping the party. Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State, who disclosed the party’s move to reconcile with Obasanjo, said the former President remained the father of all. Lamido was speaking after holding a closed- door meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Lamido, who is the North-West Coordinator of Goodluck/Sambo Presidential Campaign Council, noted that President Jonathan and all the state governors were creations of Obasanjo. He stated though the PDP might have failed to live up to Obasanjo’s expectations, abandoning the party was not the solution.
