Auction Will Promote Liquidity, GDP Growth In Nigeria– Institute

The Certified Institute of Auctioneers, Nigeria, says leveraging on auction will promote liquidity and improve the contribution of the service sector to the GDP.

Mr Adeleke Hassan, Registrar of the institute, made the observation at the opening ceremony of 3A Auction House in Lagos.3A Auction House is a company that specialises in expedited sale of properties and other assets through auction and online bidding platforms.

Hassan said that exploring auction as a property exit strategy for many abandoned buildings, vehicles and assets in the country would accelerate cash flow and boost investments.

“Properties, vehicles and other luxury items that most people, even the government bought when the economy was booming have been abandoned. They have become burden to them.

“If you have a car that you have not used in two to three months, sell it and invest the money in something else.“The longer these properties stay unused, the more their value depreciates,” he said.

Hassan said that auctioning had become entrenched practice in the country, adding that value of the business could run into billions of naira. He, however, said that most people identified as auctioneers were untrained and unregulated, leaving the public to be susceptible to their nefarious activities.

“3A Auction House is the first recognised auction house in the country; what we have in the country is online auction that are not done in the right way,” Hassan said.

Mr Abimbola Akingboye, the Managing Director, 3A Auction House, said that the company’s operation would reposition auction while boosting investment in the country.

“Placing a price on a property more than the actual value is what our operation will correct.“Integrity has been bastardised in Nigeria, leaving a lot of people to be sceptical and wary about disposing and acquiring assets.

“We will leverage on technology to reach a large number of people. More so, some Nigerians in the Diaspora have been enquiring on how to utilise the platform to acquire properties in the country.

“Infact, the first major assignment given to us by a client is to auction a $2 million private jet.“Our operation will ensure that assets are sold in a transparent and open bidding environment.”

Akingboye said that the organisation was working with private investors, government establishments and financial institutions to facilitate trade.Mr Abimbola Akinkuowo, Executive Director in the company, said the organisation was liaising with government to ensure that more Nigerians benefitted from public sale of government properties.

According to him, the auction industry will boost employment, investment and socio-economic development in the country.

FG Will Leverage On Youths’ Talent To Promote Attitudinal Change– Minister

The Federal Government will leverage on the creative ability and talent of Nigerian youths to promote the campaign for attitudinal change and national re-orientation, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has said.

A statement issued from his office in Abuja on Sunday said the Minister announced the plan on Saturday in Kaduna, where he attended the state’s first Annual Music Festival.

He said because of the large followership being enjoyed by the nation’s artistes, they have the capacity to mobilize and influence attitudinal change among Nigerians.

He assured that the Federal Government would provide the enabling environment for the creative industry to thrive in order to harness the potentials of culture for national re-orientation and economic growth.

Mohammed underscored the role of the creative sector in the economic growth and development of the nation, while noting that Nigeria became the biggest economy in Africa following the re-basing of its Gross Domestic Product, GDP mainly due to the boom in the creative industry.

Buhari Asks Muslims To Promote Love, Peace As Ramadan Begins

President Muhammadu Buhari has called on Nigerians to pray for the return of peace, love and prosperity throughout the country as Muslims start the 2015 Ramadan.

This followed the declaration of moon-sighting by the president-general, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, yesterday night.

In a congratulatory message released on Buhari’s behalf by his senior special assistant, Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the president implored Muslims to seek maximum benefits from the Ramadan period “by being helpful to all manner of people, learning and following the true message of the religion as taught by the Holy Prophet.”

The president in his message appealed to the perpetrators of violence and destruction in the name of Islam all over the world to desist from tarnishing the name of the religion.

“As we make collective efforts to bring to a permanent end the menace of Boko Haram in the Lake Chad basin countries, let me use this auspicious occasion to appeal to our misguided brothers to drop their arms, embrace peace and seek a better understanding of Islam during this Holy period and beyond,” Buhari said.

Meanwhile, while addressing newsmen in his palace, the Sultan stated that Thursday, June 18, marks the beginning of Ramadan 1436 A.H, and urged Muslims to use the 29 or 30-day period to offer prayers for peace and development of the country.

“I have the greatest pleasure to announce to you that today, June 17, marked the end of Shaaban and, therefore, Thursday June 18 marks the beginning of Ramadan 1436,” he said.

“Reliable reports from Muslim leaders across the country show that the new moon of Ramadan has been sighted in various parts of the country. I urge you all to use the opportunity to offer prayers for peace and development of this country.”
