Most Corps Members posted to North applied for redeployment – DG

Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Brigadier-General Suleiman Kazure, has assured corps members posted to northern parts of the country of their safety.

The NYSC boss spoke yesterday while addressing 2016 Batch B corps members posted to Niger State, at the orientation camp in Paiko Local Government Area of the state.

He disclosed that 90 per cent of corps members posted to the north had applied for redeployment.

He, however, assured that “the north is no longer volatile.”

Represented by the Director of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Mrs. Christy Ifeyinwa Uba, Kazure said the successes recorded by the military, had brought normalcy to the entire north.

He appealed to corps members not to be discourage by the negative stories they had heard about the north.

“I want to assure you that the north is now peaceful and the people are friendly. Keep an open mind and give it a chance and a trial.

“Your posting is not by mistake, stay here and make some impact on the people of the state”, he said.

He warned corps members to desist from channelling their complaints and grievances through the social media.

“This is a disciplined organisation. If you have issues or complaints, meet either your local government or zonal coordinator and even your state coordinator rather than taking to the social media”, he added.

Search for oil in north, right step – experts.

In spite of the huge sum and decades of years invested in prospecting for oil in the North of Nigeria, some petroleum experts have argued that the government is taking the right step in not relenting in its search for oil in that region.

To them, the quest to get crude oil is usually not achieved overnight.

They, however, did not agree on the format government should adopt in the search for crude oil. While some agree that government should lead the way in terms of investing directly, others believe government should have had an arrangement with the private sector players.

While the Director, Emerald Energy Institute, University of Port Harcourt, Professor Wumi Iledare, said there is nothing wrong in the search, but urged government to explore private sector funding, Professor of Applied Geophysics, University of Ibadan, Olayinka, Abel Idowu, said finding crude oil in commercial quantity couldn’t be ruled out, as oil has also been found in the Chad basins.

On his part, Professor Joseph Ajienka, a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, noted that by the time oil was discovered in Oloibiri in the early 50s, exploration had gone on all over the country for 50 years, right from a German company to Shell Darcy.

Ajienka stated that the issue is not whether they should continue to explore there, noting that areas people thought had no oil on the continent, oil and gas had been found there.

Again, Buhari Orders NNPC To Search For Oil In North

For the second time in three weeks, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has received an express order from President Muhammadu Buhari to explore for oil in the North.

This time, the President directed the national oil firm to commence exploration activities in the Benue Trough. The Benue Trough is a major geological formation underlying a large part of Nigeria, extending about 1,000km North-East from the Bight of Benin to Lake Chad.

The Group Managing Director, NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru, disclosed the President’s directive on the oil exploration in the North while receiving a delegation from the Benue State Government at the corporation’s headquarters in Abuja.

About three weeks ago, the President had directed the corporation to speed up its prospect for oil in the region, specifically in the Chad Basin and Kolmani River, following the reported discovery of hydrocarbons by Shell in the area.

The 19 northern state governors are also fired up about the prospect of oil production in their domain as they have hired a British firm through the Northern Nigeria Development Company, which they jointly own, to carry out the exploration activities.

But energy analysts and several socio-cultural and other interest groups on Tuesday expressed divergent views on the pressure by the President on the NNPC as regards oil exploration in the North.

The NNPC GMD, in a statement from the corporation on Tuesday, said the new directive was in line with the current efforts to guarantee energy security of the country.

“If Buhari Finds Oil In the North Nigeria Will Breakup” – Femi Fani-Kayode

The President, Muhammadu Buhari has in recent times stepped up efforts to find oil in the North of the country, a development that former Aviation minister Femi Fani-Kayode finds interesting.

Fani-Kayode believes that if this is to happen and Buhari is successful in finding oil in the North then he and those in the North will call for a breakup of the country.

The lawyer took to his Twitter page to react to the news of the step up in efforts to find oil in the region, particularly in the core North. His hope, according to his tweets, is that Oil is indeed found and that there’s a call for the breakup of the nation which it seems he’d be fine with as he believes a peaceful separation might be best for the nation.

With calls for secession from the Niger Delta and parts of the East, this seems to show that Fani-Kayode is of the opinion that the nation is unsustainable as it is.

He said that without Southern oil the North is nothing.

The President, according to Fani-Kayode, is desperate to find oil in the North and this can only be a good thing.

You can check out Femi Fani-Kayode’s tweets below.

“The North Wants To Islamize Niger Delta”, Militant Group Cries Out.

A militant group, Niger Delta Revolutionary Crusaders, NDRC, Monday, alleged that there was an Islamic agenda by northerners to conquer and enslave the people of Niger Delta because of their oil.

The group in a statement by the spokesperson W O I Izon-Ebi, said: “Their first step is to use few of our greedy political elites. The second plan is to frame distinguished leaders with frivolous charges. The third one is to incite crisis for the military to come into the Niger Delta with the sole purpose to kill all the vibrant and brave youths of the region that are mouth piece and leaders of tomorrow.”

It asserted: “To further expose their Islamic agenda to own our oil and enslave us, they have gone further to absorb more than 250,000 civilian JTF into the Nigerian Army and even boasting to absorb more into the military and paramilitary force.”

“As if that is not enough, they are offering the Boko Haram Amnesty with the sole aim to invade the Niger Delta in the name of fighting militants. The drafting of Special Forces to the Niger Delta is not a threat to the people Niger Delta, because before this time we have known the Islamisation plot of recruiting Saudi Mercenaries, absorbing civilian JTF, and recruiting of Boko Haram members to form a special force to invade the Niger Delta,” NDRC said.

It added: ”Niger Deltans have suffered in the hands of the Nigerian government through their divide and rule tactics and few criminal minded elites to impoverish the people. This is why from 1957 when oil was discovered in commercial quantity in Oloibiri till date, there is nothing to show as an oil producing region. All we see is suffering, hunger, poverty, gas flaring, and degradation.”

“Now, their ploy is to cause disunity in the Niger Delta in order to go on with their exploration and exploitation. All what we see now in the Niger delta is disunity, witch-hunting, tribal sentiment, poverty, which they are using in order to achieve their purpose. These things are done deliberately to disorganize the people of the Niger Delta to enable them continue with oil exploration.

“Even in political appointments, they try to use it to create disunity among the people. Example, in the NDDC, if truly they meant well for the region, there will not be any need for agitation, an Isoko man is from Delta state, why are the Itsekiri people protesting, in Ondo, the same thing, Akwa Ibom the same thing, Abia the same thing,” the group stated.

NDRC declared: “They are now using our resources to acquire weapons and fighters to enslave us in this 21st century. We are very sad with our brothers that use Niger Delta struggle to enrich themselves and at the same time being used by the northerners to achieve their aim of exploiting the oil.”

It noted: “They feel that they have settled some few charlatans and criminals that call themselves ex-militants, using them to hijack the struggle that our distinguished sons and fathers stood for. Isaac Adaka Boro never took sides against his people or enriched himself, Ken Saro-Wiwa laid his life for this same course, Government Epkomupolo aka Tompolo, the prince of Ijaw deity (Egbesu), initiated the one and only Nigerian Maritime University, NMU.”

Commending Ijaw elders and leaders for standing on the truth, last weekend, in Warri, the group said: “The spirit and courage, fearlessness, bravery is motivating us to put a stop to this planned Islamic agenda against the Niger Delta. Just as we are asking our fathers why did allow their age mates from the north to put Niger Delta in this pathetic condition, we shall not allow our children to ask us the same question.”

It said: “If the government is truly sincere about solving the Niger Delta crisis, they should discuss with our distinguished elders. The proposed release of Henry Okah, Charles Okah, and Nnamdi Kanu and others is a well come development to build the dialogue process.”

NDRC, however, opposed the idea of the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta, MEND leading the dialogue between militants and government, saying: “MEND should stop embarrassing our distinguished leaders from the region because Niger Deltans knows that MEND has been disbanded, granted amnesty and settled with pipeline contract.”

“When we checked Government Tompolo, GOC, Empkomupolo is declared wanted by the EFCC, Alhaji Asari is in support of the cause, Ateke Tom is peacefully in his community with his philanthropic gesture and spirit to see the well-being of his people earning the title of a first class chief in his kingdom. Henry Okah is in jail, Charles Okah is in jail. So who is speaking for MEND now?

“Can they honorably unmask themselves, if they are truly fighting for the well-being of the region, or is it a ploy to connive with the federal government to eliminate our bravest youths? It said.

Officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC)? on Saturday stated that the crippling fuel scarcity in the northern part of the country will be over in the next two weeks following the completion of repairs on the vandalized pipelines supplying crude oil to Kaduna Refining and Petro-chemical Company (KRPC).

The officials also said the KRPC is ready to commence production.

The Group Executive Director (GED) and Chief Operating Officer (COO), Off-Stream sector, NNPC, Alhaji Bello Rabiu Barbuda, gave the assurance when he embarked on a facility tour of the KRPC Plant.

“I come here to see the readiness of this refinery to be back on stream. We were actually having problem with the supply of crude oil to this place from Warri. It is about 640 kilometres line. That line is almost ready so that we would start pushing the crude here.

“At least in ten days, we would bring the crude to Kaduna, and about two or four days we would make everything ready.

“We want to make sure that in the next two weeks this refinery will be ready to start producing fuel. If that is done, the entire (northern) part of this country will be serviced with fuel.”

Babura told journalists in an interview shortly after touring the KRPC plant.

He noted that the plant is in good condition, adding that production will begin and nothing will stop it again.

Buhari To Lead Ex-Leaders To Mark Ahmadu Bello’s 50 Years Demise

President Muhammadu Buhari will lead former and present political leaders to commemorate the 50 years of the death of Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna Sokoto and late Premier of the North.

Briefing newsmen in Kaduna on activities to mark the golden jubilee of the killing of Sarduna in 1966, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, CEO of Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, SABMF, Shettima Aji Ali, said that Buhari will launch a special edition of the New Nigeria Newspaper, NNN, in which some of Sarduna’s past speeches and achievements would be highlighted.

Ahmadu Bello founded the NNN on January 1, 1966 and was killed two weeks later in a bloody coup that later lead to a 30-month civil war.

Said Ali: “You are aware, January 25, 2015 marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of our illustrious leader, Sir Bello. The immense contributions of Sir Bello to the development of Northern Nigeria and Nigeria at large cannot be overemphasised. Sir Bello worked assiduously to make northern Nigeria economically competitive, politically and religiously stable, peaceful and united.

“He had indeed succeeded in laying a solid foundation for the development of the region. The NNN which was established by the late Premier on January 1, 1966, is also 50 years old. It, therefore, decided to produce a special edition that will be launched at the opening ceremony of the commutation event.

Iran Summons Nigerian Ambassador To Protest Shi’ite Clashes In The North

Iran has summoned the Nigerian Charge d’Affaires in Tehran to protest against deadly clashes between Shia Muslims in the country’s north and the army.

Iran’s foreign ministry called the violence between the military and followers of the Shia Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) “unacceptable”, the official ISNA news agency reported on Tuesday.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Zarif had earlier contacted his Nigerian counterpart Geoffrey Onyeama to express his “deep concern” about Saturday’s events in the city of Zaria.

ISNA said at least 12 people were killed, with both sides blaming each other.

The Nigerian military said one of its convoys was attacked by followers of Ibrahim Zakzaky, the leader of the IMN.

“The sect numbering hundreds carrying dangerous weapons, barricaded the roads with bonfires, heavy stones and tyres,” an army statement said.

“The troops responsible for the safety and security of the Chief of Army Staff, on hearing explosions and firing, were left with no choice than to defend him and the convoy at all cost.”

Kanye West Takes North To Disneyland While Kim Kardashian Stays Home

So cute! Kanye West and Kris Jenner took little North to the Happiest Place On Earth on Dec. 14, while Kim Kardashian continues to recover from giving birth to son Saint just over a week ago. Kourtney and her kids also tagged along — see the pics here!

The Kardashians celebrated Mason and Reign Disick‘s birthdays in the best way possible — with a trip to Disneyland! Kanye West, North, Kris Jenner, Kourtney Kardashian, Penelope, and Corey Gamble also tagged along for the fun-filled day on Dec. 14, but Kim stayed back at home with baby Saint, as she continues to recover after giving birth just over a week ago.

Mason was celebrating his sixth birthday, while Reign celebrated his first. And Kanye was a doting dad, as he kept an eye on North throughout the day, Daily Mail reports. At one point, Kanye was even pictured pushing North in a stroller and letting her sit on his lap as they tried out the park’s famous rides. (See ALL the photos here.)

One person who was noticeably absent from the birthday party was Scott Disick. Could he have skipped out because he’s upset about Kourtney’s alleged hookups with Justin Bieber? We wouldn’t be surprised, as a source told us EXCLUSIVELY that he’s shocked about their sexcapades.

“Scott is trying to get better, trying to turn over a new leaf and now Kourtney is going out late at night and hooking up with another bad boy — Justin,” a source close to Scott told HollywoodLife.comEXCLUSIVELY, revealing his frustration with the situation. “So, Scott feels like it is a slap to the face. He feels that he is doing what she wants and she is now doing things just to make him feel bad.”

Well, at least everyone seemed to have a good time at Disneyland.

Kim Kardashian Could Suffer Deadly Placenta Accreta With 3rd Pregnancy — Doctor Says

Kim Kardashian is extremely lucky that she did not suffer the same ‘placenta accreta’ issue with her second pregnancy as her first, but a doctor tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY that a third pregnancy could be deadly. Here’s why.

Kim Kardashian’s second pregnancy may have been better than the first, but that doesn’t mean that she’s in the clear to try for a third, a doctor tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. The placenta accreta disorder that tainted her first birth could actually kill her if she tries again. We’ll tell you why, here.

We’re so happy for Kim that she got to have two beautiful, healthy babies despite her major pregnancy complications, but Dr. Bruce Lee, M.D., a Beverly Hills O.B.G.Y.N. explained EXCLUSIVELY to HollywoodLife.com why she shouldn’t try it again. “Kim is very fortunate that she did not suffer from placenta accreta with the birth of her second child Saint West.”

“The majority of women who experience placenta accreta with their first pregnancy, are at high riskfor developing the life-threating condition with subsequent births. In fact, the risk of getting placenta accreta increases with every pregnancy,” continued Dr. Lee. “Just because Kim didn’t have placenta accreta with her second pregnancy, doesn’t mean she wouldn’t get it with her third pregnancy. The possibility is quite high.”

So what exactly is “placenta accreta”? You probably remember that during Kim’s first pregnancy, her placenta got attached to the inside of her body, and a doctor had to scrape it off with his fingernails. Yuck. But it’s also super dangerous. So why is this such a threat? “If Kim were pregnant with her third child and went into early labor with placenta accreta there could be massive bleeding,” Dr. Lee told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “Massive bleeding could reduce blood flow and oxygen to the baby, thus harming the baby.”

On top of that, it could hurt Kim. “Kim could suffer from severe vaginal bleeding. The average blood lose is between 3,000-5,000 milliliters. A blood transfusion would be required in 90% of these cases and there is 7% mortality rate for mothers,” said Dr. Lee.

So, what would Dr. Lee tell Kim if she were his patient? “If I were Kim’s doctor, I would advise her not to take the risk,” he told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “She already has two healthy children. She got away with not getting placenta accreta with her second pregnancy, she shouldn’t tempt fate again.” Poor Kimmy! Luckily, it sounds like she’s currently satisfied with the size of her family. Perhaps if she changes her mind, she should consider adopting. Stay safe, Kim!

Maku Instigated Jonathan Against North – Al-Makura

Nasarawa State governor, Tanko Al-Makura has said the former minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, is responsible for pitching President Goodluck Jonathan against the North while in office, saying his divisive tendencies along ethnic and religious lines, helped fuel the recurrent crisis in Nasarawa State.

Maku, had at a press briefing in Abuja at the weekend, alleged among other things that innocent citizens had continued to be killed by gunmen as a result of what he described as the “insensitivity” in handling the security situation in the state by the state government which he claimed would have been addressed if he was sworn in as governor of the state in May, this year.

But in a swift reaction on yesterday, the Special Assistant to the governor on Media and Publicity, Ahmed Tukur, said it was rather unfortunate that Maku who had ignored invitations extended to him and other stakeholders on several occasions to brainstorm towards finding lasting solution to the communal crisis in recent past could make unguarded utterances when the state government has succeeded in overcoming the situation.

He alleged that the insecurity in the state in recent past became worse as there was an increase in the proliferation of arms and ammunition when Maku held sway as the supervising minister of Defence, insisting that the former minister should rather commend his boss for the relative peace being enjoyed in the state.

North Set To Take Over NNPC- Report

Barely 48 hours after President Muhammadu Buhari dissolved the board of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), intense lobby has begun to fill the positions of the Group Managing Director (GMD) and those of Executive Directors. Eight new structures are being proposed for the corporation and it is already awaiting the approval of the President.

It was further gathered that there was likely to be further sweeping changes at NNPC, a development which may lead to the sack of other Managing Directors and General Managers. As part of measures aimed at ensuring a smooth take-off of the proposed new structures, some highly placed northerners from the core northern states are already strategizing to fill existing vacancies, while other “qualified” officers from the North-Central, South-West, South-East and South-South geo-political zones, would be “pushed to obscure departments and positions.”

So far, Daily Sun further gathered, three names from the North-West and North-East zones are believed to have been penciled down for consideration and possible approval for the position of Group Managing Director (GMD) of the NNPC. The three persons are: Malam Isa Inuwa from Kano State, Dr. M. K. Baru, Bauchi and Alhaji Sa’adi Farouk, Sokoto State.

Dr. Baru is a former Group General Manager of NAPIMS, a subsidiary of the NNPC, while Malam Inuwa, whose background is in Accounting, is the Deputy Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) just as Alhaji Farouk, had served as Group Executive director (GED) Exploration Production of the NNPC.

A source said some powerful forces from the North close to the Presidency that include a governor of one of the North-Western states, is said to be leading the trio of Malam Sarki Abba, Adamu Adamu and AVM Muktar in lobbying Aso Rock Villa to approve the new structure and appointment of one of the three nominees.

Only North, Muslims Can Defeat B’Haram- Gen Gumi

Former director of legal services of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier-General Abdulqadir Abubakar Gumi (retd), has said that for the Boko Haram sect to be crushed  completely, the North must rise up in unison and adopt defence mechanisms peculiar and suitable to its brand of tradition.

Gumi, who is a son of the revered late Grand Khadi of Northern Nigeria, Sheik Abubakar Gumi, and brother of Kaduna-based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Mahmud Gumi, noted that apart from the ongoing effort by the federal government, the Muslim community in the country had the obligation to complement the fight against the insurgents.

In a position paper made available to LEADERSHIP yesterday, he noted that this edition of his paper on the topic is a little digression from the first edition published in this paper in February.

He said this edition, entitled ‘How To Break Boko Haram II’, was guided by democratic principles that seek “to reiterate the need for checks and balances without which projections and sharing of responsibilities may not be equitable.”

Gumi opined that beside the roles being played the executive, legislative and judiciary arms of government, the North and the Muslim community must brace up to the situation.

This, he said, is informed by the fact that “Muslims were hitherto designated as the main complainants/victims of the insurgency and, by extension, the entire Northern Nigeria which formed the battleground.”

He faulted the situation whereby the war against the insurgents was left for the federal government to contend with, saying it was “erroneous for the Northern establishments to rely fully on the government or the National Assembly for all initiatives needed to prosecute the BH (Boko Haram) insurgency.”

“They (North) should bear in mind that no federal body is structured to either project the North, faith, regional-based entity or targeted situations. The North, being directly devastated by the insurgency as ground zero, needs to design its peculiar defence mechanisms common or suitable to its heritage.

“This would fill in survival gaps or at the least improve its disposition as to compel the constituted federal structure to be alive to its responsibilities whenever its social fabrics are threatened.

“The attitude to wait for an election year before action would amount to accepting the kind of casualties and losses realized within the period for the democracy we have chosen for ourselves”.

Sule Lamido Is Attacking Buhari To Save His Sons From EFCC – Garba Shehu

Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State is being used by President Goodluck Jonathan to attack the APC presidential candidate Muhammadu Buhari because of his sons’ money laundering case pending before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Buhari campaign office said.

They asked, “When did Lamido become a spokesman for the North and what did he and other Jonathan apologists negotiate for the North as the South West has been doing with Jonathan in the last two weeks?

“Of the millions of the US Dollars that Jonathan has allegedly been sharing to traditional and religious leaders in the South-West, how much of it did Lamido negotiate and obtain on behalf of the Northern traditional and religious leaders?”

The campaign spokesperson, Garba Shehu, disclosed at a press briefing on Sunday while reacting to a radio interview granted by Lamido same day where he was expected to attack the personality of Buhari.

He said the interview which FRCN stations have been directed to link up for live coverage and its contents “as agreed with Vice President Namadi Sambo and President Jonathan are to essentially damage Buhari.”

Shehu said Lamido would state at the interview that Buhari “will be a figurehead while Osinbajo will be the de-facto President. He will give examples of GMB’s leadership style mentioning Idiagbon (COS-SHQ) and Salihijo (PTF).”

He added that Lamido will claim that situation “is unfair to the North as the South-West will be indirectly getting another term of office as president in addition to the Obasanjo years, so Northerners should not be deceived into voting APC.”

The Buhari campaign spokesperson said “Lamido had been pressured to do the interview because of the EFCC pressure on his sons’ corruption charges.

“Lamido has never worked near or with GMB to know his leadership style. Those working closely with him in the APC know otherwise.”

Shehu also asked, “As a self- appointed Northern interest spokesman, what is his (Lamido) response to the pejorative references made by Mrs. Patience Jonathan about Northerners?”

Okorocha’s Message to All Igbos in the North

Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, has advised Igbos living in the Northern part of the country not to leave their place of residence because of the February 14 and 28 general elections.

The governor gave the advice on Monday in Abuja after a meeting of the APC chieftains Sunday night, Daily Trust reports.

Okorocha assured the Igbo people that fear of post-election violence is unfounded, adding that they should ignore the pronouncements of people like Asari Dokubo and other militants who are threatening war if President Goodluck Jonathan should lose his re-election bid.

North West Flushed Kanye’s Cell Phone Down the Toilet

According to Kim Kardashian, her adorable daughter North accidentally flushed her dad Kanye West’s cell phone down the toilet.

As the Keeping Up With the Kardashian’s star explained during an interview with On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Wednesday, she first heard flushing before she rushed in and saw North standing next to the flowing toilet.

“I run in there and I’m like, ‘Wait a minute babe,’ to Kanye. ‘Didn’t she have your phone a second ago?'” Kim recalled, laughing. “The phone was in the toilet!… I put it in a bag of rice, [but] nothing worked.”

The incident left Kanye without a phone for a short time. Kim, however is prepared for mishaps like that. The 33-year-old celeb claimed that she owns three different phones. That way, she’s never stuck without being able to take a selfie.

Kim Kardashian Says Her Pregnancy Weight Gain Was God’s Way of Punishing Her

Kim Kardashian has an interesting theory on why she gained such a significant amount of pregnancy weight while expecting her first child, the now one-year-old North West.

In what’s already proven to be a revealing interview with Elle U.K., Kim blames her much talked-about weight gain last year on God. “I’d think God was doing this for a reason,” she says. “He was saying: ‘Kim, you think you’re so hot, but look what I can do to you.'”

“My body just went crazy,” she further explains. “After five months I swore I’d never get pregnant again. I got so huge and it felt like someone had taken over my body.”

But that of course didn’t last long. Kim reveals that she and husband Kanye West definitely want more siblings for baby Nori. “I want a boy and another girl; I want it to start happening straight away,” she shares. “I loved being part of a huge family — and I want that for North. We’d do IVF if nothing happens, but we both want to keep trying naturally.”
