North Korea’s Kim Jong Nam killed with VX nerve agent — Malaysian Police

A nerve agent known as VX was used to kill Kim Jong Nam, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s estranged half-brother, in Malaysia on February 13, police said Friday.

Kim Jong Nam was poisoned by two women who wiped the highly toxic chemical agent on his face at Kuala Lumpur’s international airport on February 13, Malaysian police chief Khalid Abu Bakar said.

The presence of the VX agent, which is classified as a chemical weapon of mass destruction by the United Nations, was found in swabs taken from Kim’s eyes and face.

A Vietnamese woman and an Indonesian woman, along with a North Korean man, have been arrested over the killing.

One of the women was sickened by the toxic substance following the attack and vomited, the police chief said.

Asked by local media whether people should avoid visiting the airport, Khalid said, “I don’t know, I’m not the expert.

“We will get the experts to go to the location and to sweep it and see whether anything radioactive is still there.”

The substance is “definitely illicit here,” he added, saying that police were investigating how it was obtained.

The substance is technically known as ethyl “S-2-diisopropylaminoethyl methylphosphonothiolate”, a police statement said.
It is listed as a chemical weapon under the Chemical Weapons Convention Act 2005 and Chemical Weapons Convention 1997.

Malaysian police are searching for seven more North Koreans believed to be linked to the attack, including a diplomat in the North Korean embassy in Kuala Lumpur and an airline worker with Air Koryo, the state-owned national flag carrier airline of North Korea
On Thursday police asked Interpol to issue an alert for four North Koreans who fled Malaysia on the day of Kim’s murder.

He was released in 2015 and made his way to Germany.

Muslim Cleric Stabs Lagos Landlord to Death

An Islamic cleric, Alfa Ganiyu Umaru, is being detained by the police for allegedly killing his landlord in one-storeyed building in Agbotikuyo bus stop, Ipaja, Lagos State.

This is just as relatives and friends of the 45-year-old victim, Tajudeen Popoola, said they had yet to come to terms with the reality of his death.

It was learnt that Umaru, who hails from Ilorin, Kwara State, and Tajudeen had been at loggerheads for some time over Umaru’s alleged immoral behaviour

He was said to have criticised the cleric for drinking and performing rituals on the ground that such acts contravened Islamic doctrines. It was said the criticism usually resulted in exchange of words between both.

The matter, however, came to a head when Tajudeen returned from a football viewing centre around 8pm on Sunday and reportedly met Umaru and his friends drinking alcohol in front of the building.

The landlord was said to have rebuked the suspect, leading to an altercation after which they both retired to their respective apartments.

The deceased’s brother, Azeez Popoola, said Umaru came to Tajudeen’s apartment a few minutes later and attacked him with a shard of broken glass.

He said, “Alfa usually quarreled with my brother because he used to correct his excesses. Any time they had a disagreement, he would threaten to kill my brother. On Sunday, he made good his threat.

“Everywhere was dark that evening. He sneaked into the passage where my brother was resting on a bench. Alfa didn’t know I was resting at a corner in the passage. I suddenly heard my brother scream and before I knew what was happening, blood was gushing out from his neck while Alfa fled.

“I went after him and with the help of neighbours, he was apprehended and the shard was recovered from him. We rushed my brother to the Ile Epo General Hospital; but before we got there, he had lost a lot of blood. He died a few minutes later. Alfa stabbed him in three different places in the neck.”

Azeez, who described Tajudeen as a diligent mechanic, said he had never fought the suspect although the cleric owed him two-year rent.

“He is a widower. His only daughter lives in the East. The daughter and our ageing mother had not been informed of his death,” he added.

Our correspondent, who visited the residence on Tuesday, found bloodstains on the staircase and walls, while Umaru’s paraphernalia, including a horn and a black pot, was seen at the entrance to his apartment.

It was gathered that his wife and children had fled immediately the incident happened.

Tajudeen’s friend, David Aluko, said, “I am devastated. I can’t still believe that my friend is gone forever. The whole thing still appears to me as a movie. We both returned from the viewing centre that day and he told Alfa to stop drinking outside the building.

“Alfa said Tajudeen’s comment embarrassed him and he threatened to kill the landlord. I was discussing with people outside when I heard Azeez shouting upstairs that Alfa had stabbed his brother. Tajudeen was kind to everybody.”

A tenant, who identified himself only as Quadri, said Tajudeen was generous to him and other tenants, urging the police to ensure that Umaru faced the full weight of the law.

“I live in his house in Dopemu. The last time I paid rent was 2014. I explained my challenges to him and he said I shouldn’t worry. He helped people a lot. There were occasions he gave tenants money from the rent they paid,” he added.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, had yet to reply to a text message sent to her mobile phone line as of press time.

However, a police source told our correspondent that the suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.

Man Commits Suicide on Wedding Eve, Drops Suicide Message for Sister

A 28-year-old man has committed suicide in Mushin area of Lagos State, on the eve of his wedding.

Shakiru, popularly called Jarule, was found hanging from the ceiling of his 56, Oduduwa Street, Mushin home.

Relatives told newsmen that the father of two was being expected in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, on Saturday for the event. Shakiru was said to have sent a suicide message to his sister, Mariam, which reads: “I’m sorry. Forgive me.”

Mariam had reportedly insisted on his arriving early for the event on noticing his attitude of late. But when the message came in around 6:30pm, she did not read it immediately. When she did, she tried to reach some of his friends, but all to no avail. She then got their elder sister who lives near him to go and find out what was happening. His sister found his room locked from inside indicating that he was at home.

But when he did not respond to her knocks, she called Mariam, who asked her to look through the window from where she found his lifeless body dangling from the ceiling.

The late Shakiru also left some notes in his jotter, bordering on love and his life trajectory. They included “I’m Done”, “If you are reading this, it’s too late.” He also wrote phrases such as “I love you” on the pictures of his two children.

Some relatives described his death as embarrassing and unfortunate. They said he was an introvert who hardly picked their calls. It was learnt that his wife is about eight months pregnant. He was said to have proposed an abortion which his doctor warned against because “it was too late.”

His niece, who didn’t mention her name, believes he committed suicide over financial difficulties.

According to her, he became frustrated after the death of his mother three years ago.

It was learnt that the police are detaining four persons living with the late Shakiru.

Rivers Government to prosecute two APC chieftains for alleged murder.

The Attorney-General of Rivers State has been directed to prosecute the 2015 All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate, Asita Okorie, for the murder of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member during the March 19, 2016 rerun legislative election.

It was learnt that the corps member was killed at Akinima community in Ahoada West Local Government.

The decision to prosecute the APC chieftain was reached during the Rivers State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Nyesom Wike yesterday.

Commissioner for Information, Dr. Austin Tam-George, hinged the decision to prosecute Okorie on the recommendation of the Justice Monima Danagogo Commission of Inquiry into the violence and killings that characterised the rerun elections.

Also to be prosecuted is another APC chieftain and former member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Barry Mpigi, for the murder of a pregnant woman, Mrs. Baby Nzuuga, in Kpite Tai.

Protest in Enugu as 200 Herdsmen Invade Community

Residents of an Enugu community, Agu Obodo of Obeagwu Ozalla in Nkanu West Local Government Area, have protested the arrival of over 200 Fulani herdsmen and their cows in the area.

The panicky residents said they were overwhelmed by the arrival of over five trucks that were loaded with the herdsmen, their families and cows.

The residents urged the “strangers” to leave their land within three days because they could no longer go to their farms.

President-General of Ozalla Development Union (ODU), Chief Afam Ani, who led the protesting women, youths and traditional rulers, said the arrival of the herdsmen at the weekend caused serious anxiety among the people.

The community leader said residents living close to their farms abandoned them and took refuge in other parts of the town.

He told reporters that when the herdsmen were queried, they claimed to have been evicted from their previous settlement at Maryland in Enugu South Local Government Area and decided to resettle at Ozalla.

Ani said the residents had reported the matter to security agencies, the local and state governments to evict the herdsmen.

The community leader recalled what he called an ugly experience the community had with the herdsmen in 2012 when they allegedly attacked, raped and destroyed property.

He said: “There should be no doubt whatsoever that what we are faced with is the forcible invasion of our homeland by Fulani herdsmen who are likely armed with dangerous weapons. We consider this act to be extremely provocative and totally unacceptable to our people.”

The community leader said the herdsmen agreed to vacate the community within three days, adding that he had pleaded with security agencies to enforce the agreement.

A traditional ruler of one of the autonomous communities in Ozalla, Igwe C. O. Okafor, described the development as embarrassing.

The monarch said the herdsmen did not consult the community, either themselves or by proxy, before moving into the community.

He urged the government and security agencies to evict the herdsmen because of the security threat they posed to the community.

14-Year Old Girl Connives With Soldier Boyfriend, 20, To Kill Mom Because She Was Against Their Relationship

Young Jamie Silvonek might have only been 14, but her intelligence and grown-up mannerisms defied her age. Adults spoke to her like an equal and her teachers accelerated her learning.

So when the young blonde caught the eye of an army cadet at a music gig in Pennsylvania in October 2014, Jamie had no problem persuading him she was about to turn 18.

Caleb Barnes was 20, and very taken with Jamie. She lived in Allentown and soldier Caleb has based two hours away in Fort Meade, Maryland, but they started a long-distance relationship.

However, Jamie soon had to admit that she was only 14. Caleb agreed to keep their relationship a
secret and they sneaked around, hiding the relationship from Jamie’s parents, Cheryl and David.

But after five months Cheryl, 54, caught the couple in bed together in the basement of her home. Cheryl was furious and threw Caleb out, threatening to report him to the police for sex with an underage girl.

“If she calls the cops, I’ll lose my job,” Caleb texted Jamie in a panic.

Jamie didn’t want to lose her boyfriend, so she tried to persuade her mum that Caleb was 16. Caleb even bought a fake birth certificate online.

“I feel like with my skills I can convince her to give you another shot,” Jamie texted Caleb. “I need to regain my mother’s trust by convincing her you are really 16.”

Jamie was clever, but Cheryl was no fool and told her daughter to stop seeing Caleb. Still, Jamie refused to give him up.

She had tickets to go and watch the rock band Breaking Benjamin with Caleb and she told her mum that she had to go.

“I feel so desolate, mother,” she texted her. “My excitement for this had been the only thing getting me through. I’m going to have a mental breakdown. I need this.”

Cheryl reluctantly agreed that she could go – but insisted that she drive them. Jamie knew she’d won this battle, but there would be more to come. In the week leading up to the concert, Caleb and Jamie exchanged more text messages.

“She needs to go, Caleb, right now,” she wrote. One from Caleb read: “I have knives picked out.”

“Just do it,” Jamie wrote.

On the night of 14 March 2015, Cheryl drove the pair to the concert and went back in the early hours of the next morning to pick them up. Then she disappeared.

A few hours later, her SUV was found submerged in a pond a few miles from her home. It was covered in her blood. Police found her body nearby in a snow-covered shallow grave.

When police arrived at Cheryl’s home, her husband David had been looking for her. Jamie and Caleb were found naked in bed together – David didn’t even know Caleb was there.

“He’s a friend that mum knows about,” Jamie told her dad.

Jamie and Caleb were arrested. An autopsy revealed that Cheryl had been beaten, strangled and stabbed five times. One stab wound pierced an artery, spraying blood throughout her car. She’d valiantly fought back but had been overpowered.

When questioned, Jamie’s story changed countless times. She said Caleb had raped her, then said she’d covered up the crime because he’d threatened her. But there were text messages between Jamie and Caleb in the car driving back from the concert talking about going through with their plan.

Caleb said he’d killed Jamie’s mum so they could be together and revealed that she’d begged for her life in her final moments.

“Just take my daughter,” she had cried. “If you want her, take her.”

They were both charged with first-degree murder. While in prison, Jamie told a friend in a phone call, “I’m losing more sleep over the way I was betrayed than the fact that I killed someone.”

But she quickly became remorseful and changed her story when it came to facing a trial. She confessed to her part in the plot and made a plea deal. She agreed to testify against Caleb in return for a 35-year-to-life sentence.

In February this year, she pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, criminal conspiracy, evidence-tampering and abuse of a corpse. She was charged as an adult.

“I was a monster,” Jamie told the court. “There is no sugar-coating it, and there is absolutely no sympathy.”

Jamie said she and Caleb had talked about the killing for a week beforehand. She said she couldn’t carry on lying about the murder any more.

“My mother was the glue that held everything in my family together, including me,” she said. “And I can’t look at myself in the mirror knowing that.”

In August this year, Caleb faced his charges in court. He pointed the finger at his former girlfriend, while Jamie insisted he’d committed the act.

Jamie testified that they’d been in the SUV with her mum in the front seat and Caleb in the back. Parked in the driveway, Caleb had reached for Cheryl’s throat.

“He started to strangle her, and then eventually he stabbed her,” Jamie said.

The pair had gone to a local Walmart to buy bleach and cleaning equipment. When they returned, they pushed the car into the pond and buried Cheryl. Jamie denied playing any ‘physical’ part in the murder but admitted she’d urged Caleb to carry out the act so they could be together.

“I believe what I did was just as bad or worse than the physical act,” she wept, saying she was taking accountability for her actions. Caleb stared angrily at her from across the room.

The prosecution revealed to the jury the text messages the young couple had exchanged leading up to the killing. They were also told about the horrific details of the murder. Caleb had seemingly punched, choked and stabbed Cheryl as she’d tried to push the knife away.
They blamed each other

But Caleb denied that version and said he wasn’t even in the car at the time of the murder. He was planning to drive home and got into his car for
a nap.

“Jamie woke me up by banging on my window,” Caleb told the court. “She had blood on her hands and face.”

Caleb said she’d dragged him to the SUV where he saw Cheryl was dead. Then Jamie told him that she’d killed her mum with one of his knives.

Caleb claimed Jamie had argued with her mum because she’d told her mum she was pregnant with Caleb’s baby. He recalled Jamie saying,

“My mum went crazy. She flipped out and attacked me and I couldn’t get her off.”

Caleb said he helped cover it up because Jamie insisted she was pregnant.

“At this point, I’m thinking I have a family to protect,” he testified. “This girl just killed her mum, but she’s having my baby. I can’t let her go to prison.”

Caleb said the text messages between them were just part of an ongoing joke they had.

“I thought she was joking. I hoped she was joking,” he said. “You don’t want to believe that someone you love is capable of that.”

His lawyers said his DNA was not found on Cheryl’s hands and they called Jamie a ‘manipulator’. But Caleb could have been wearing gloves and Jamie had never mentioned a baby.

After four days, the jury found Caleb guilty of first-degree murder, conspiracy, abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence. He scowled at the verdict. This September he was given his mandatory life sentence.

The young lovers killed to stay together – but their actions have separated them forever.

Half-headed man facing arson, attempted murder charges.

A Miami man famous for missing half of his head is facing arson and attempted murder charges for allegedly setting his mattress on fire.

Carlos Rodriguez, 31, was arrested Monday on one count of first-degree arson and two counts of attempted felony murder, according to an arrest report.

Rodriguez appeared in bond court Tuesday but the public defender representing him asked for the hearing to be reset for Wednesday, saying Rodriguez may have some “mental issues.”

According to the arrest report, firefighters responded to a duplex in the 200 block of Northwest 61st Avenue after his mattress was set on fire. The report said two people live in the duplex next door.

The report said the fire was set deliberately “posing an immediate threat to the lives and safety of the occupants.”

Rodriguez gained fame in 2010 when he was arrested in Miami-Dade for allegedly soliciting a prostitute and his mugshot was posted on the internet. In YouTube videos, Rodriguez, who answers to the name “Halfy,” explains he injured his head after he hit a pole while driving, flew out the front window of the car and landed on his head.

Man Who fired Gunshot at George Zimmerman Sentenced to 20 Years In Prison for Attempted Murder

The Florida man who fired a gunshot at perpetual menace George Zimmerman was sentenced to 20 years in prison Monday for attempted murder.

Matthew Apperson, 37, had testified that he shot in self-defense during a road rage incident with Zimmerman last year. He said Zimmerman’s intimidating reputation — especially for his fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin — made him fear for his life.

But a Seminole County jury convicted Apperson last month of attempted second-degree murder, as well as shooting into an occupied vehicle and aggravated assault.

Zimmerman and Apperson both accused each other of beginning a confrontation and car chase in May 2015.

A reminder that George Zimmerman is cancer to society

Zimmerman testified that Apperson was shooting to kill without provocation. He said Apperson appeared to be glad when he believed his shot hit and killed Zimmerman, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Twenty years is Florida’s mandatory minimum sentence for shooting at another person with a gun.

But Zimmerman infamously walked free after shooting and killing Martin, an unarmed black teenager, after a scuffle in 2012. Zimmerman, who was a volunteer neighborhood watchman at the time, claimed self-defense and was acquitted.

He has since incessantly bragged about killing the teen and even auctioned the gun he used in the fatal confrontation, supposedly for $250,000.

#Aluu4: Four years on & still no justice – Adeeko Ademola Abayomi

4 years ago, on this same date, Ugonna Obuzor, Toku Lloyd, Chiadika Biringa, and Tekena Elkanah, all students of the University of Port Harcourt were gruesomely murdered after they were falsely accused of robbery in Aluu, a small community in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Apparently, 3 of them had escorted one of their friends to go settle a debt with someone who lived in the community. In the cause of settling the debt, a misunderstanding ensued which broke into a fight which later led to the false accusation of armed robbery after the alleged debtor raised the false alarm.

The vigilante group in the village immediately swooped on the boys, stripped them naked & tortured them to coma. Then in the presence of a large crowd, the boys were dragged through mud, had concrete slabs dropped on their heads, car tyres filled with petrol wrapped around their necks and burnt to death.

The worst shock of my life was when some Nigerians, after watching the video and seeing the pictures of the horrifying incident still maintained that the students deserved what they got. That right there was the point I knew we had lost sanity.

In the video, I saw people who actually stood aside and watched while 4 young students were murdered in the most barbaric way ever. Men and women, old and young, some women even had babies strapped to their backs while they watched other people’s children writhe in untold pains and eventually die in such a horrible way.

Where is our conscience in all of these? When did we become this terrible and unforgiving? What shall I say to that particular man who held that club and smashed their skulls and bones? What principle are the women who took their children to the horror sight setting for their offspring? Could this be illiteracy, hatred or wickedness? How could people stand and watch while someone smashed the skulls of those boys with that obviously heavy club? How do they sleep in Aluu village?

And of course, the degree of uselessness of our judicial system in Nigeria is unfathomable. From those who took the laws into their own hands to the custodians of the law who themselves have turned into accomplices of crime, it is a huge shame. When there is a total breakdown of law and order in a society where people don’t get justice, it’s just a matter of time before people resort to self-help and when self-help becomes the only feasible and viable way to get justice, we never can who is next in line to be handed jungle justice and of course, the innocent will always be caught up in the mix.

Till date, not a single person has been held responsible for the unfortunate incident. No prosecution, no conviction and everyone just moved on like #Aluu4 never happened.

Continue to rest in peace Ugonna, Lloyd, Chidi & Tekena. Nigeria really failed you.

Banker Knifed Wife To Death With 124 Blows After She Asked For Divorce

A banker killed his wife by stabbing her 124 times with a knife and an axe, a jury has heard.

Sanjay Nijhawan, 46, was struggling to cope after quitting his highly paid job with Barclays, a court heard. The crisis came to a head when his wife Sonita, 38, asked for a divorce, a jury at Guildford Crown Court heard.

Nijhawan stabbed her repeatedly in the head and neck before slitting her throat.

He was found sitting beside her body by worried family members who came to their luxury, gated
property in Weybridge, Surrey.

Opening the case, prosecutor Sally O’Neill said his defence was expected to be that he had an abnormality of mental function at the time “which substantially impaired his ability to form a rational judgement or exercise self control.”

The jury heard that after he was arrested by police, Nijhawan told officers that he had become “deranged” and had suffered a nervous breakdown.

Ms O’Neill said: “The number and nature of her cuts make it clear that she was the victim of a fatal and sustained attack.

“She had a very large number of cut and stab injuries to her neck and head.

“Underneath her body was an axe. He (Nijhawan) was sitting on the kitchen floor next to her body repeatedly stabbing himself to the legs with a small knife.

“Sonita had 124 significant injuries to her body including 40 cut and blunt force injuries to her head, of which 18 were to the back of the head, 11 to the side and 10 to the left hand side of her skull.

“These were all likely to be caused by an axe.

“There were 25 stab wounds to left side of her neck, more likely to have been caused by a knife. The defendant was immediately taken St George’s Hospital in Tooting.”

The cause of death was neck and head injuries, said the prosecuter.

Ms O’Neill said Nijhawan made Google searches before the killing on how to commit suicide and on how to identify the “soft parts of a female human skull.”

The jury was told that family relatives rushed to the mansion home after Nijhawan made bizarre phone calls and sent text messages about keys to the house.

Ms O’Neill said the husband had taken away his wife’s mobile phone, even though she was on call 24-7 as a director of two care homes run by her family.

Jurors heard he claimed he took away the phone so his wife could not tell family members about the divorce discussion before a family event on the upcoming weekend.

The court also heard that police seized a note from Nijhawan which he wrote in hospital and which stated: “I would like to issue a statement immediately offering my severe remorse.

“The mindless act has lost the life of a beautiful and amazing woman.

“I have failed in my duty as a son-in-law and a brother.”

Ms O’Neill told jurors: “It seems that in the preceding months leading up to this event Sanjay Nijhawan began to suffer from stress and anxiety partly as a result of his job and he was finding it very difficult to cope.

“He also felt under financial pressure because of the move to the house although it is not clear exactly why this was as both of the family were wealthy.”

The trial continues.

17-Year Old Teen Kills Himself Moments After Accidentally Shooting Dead His Friend

A Labor Day with friends turned into a devastating tragedy for four high school students when one accidentally shot another, and then killed himself out of despair.

Marsavious ‘Savie’ Frazier was showing Daquarion Hunter, both 17, a gun as they sat by side in an alley behind their friend’s home in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The gun accidentally went off and struck Hunter in the chest, causing him to drop to the ground.

Frazier immediately panicked and ran, putting the gun to his head before pulling the trigger. Both
teens’ bodies were found just 30 yards away from each other.

Their 17-year-old friend Armonte Tolbert, who saw the horrible incident unfold, was holding Hunter when police arrived, crying and screaming in shock.

Tolbert told police the three teens and their friend Timothy Whittaker had spent most of the day playing video games before going to their usual ‘chill spot’ next to the garage at his house.

The teens had set up chairs in the area and were hanging out around 9pm when Frazier revealed he was upset after seeing a woman earlier that evening.

Tolbert told police Frazier had made comments about hurting himself but that his friends were able to ‘talk him down’, according to the Kalamazoo Gazette .

This was apparently not unusual for Frazier, who Tolbert told police had made ‘suicidal comments in the past as well’. But on that day there was ‘no further concern’ among the friends and Whittaker left for five minutes to walk to a nearby convenience store.

Tolbert was texting on his phone when he saw Frazier pull out a gun and begin ‘playing with it’.

The teen told police he had never seen Frazier with a gun before, and did not know he had one on him until just moments before the shooting.

Whittaker was near the alley when he heard a ‘pop’ sound over the music coming through his headphones. Then he heard a screen and saw Hunter fall to the ground.

He then saw Frazier running toward him. The friends were only three feet apart from each other when the teen stopped and shot himself in the head, according to the police report.

Authorities added that neither of the teens had consumed alcohol or used drugs prior to the incident. Emergency responders started CPR on Frazier after feeling a faint pulse, but he could not be saved.

The friends were both pronounced dead in the alley where they had hung out together countless times before.

Man Who Drowned 3-Year-Old Stepdaughter In Pool Jailed For 100 Years

A man who was caught on camera throwing his three-year-old stepdaughter into a swimming pool before leaving her to drown has been jailed for 100 years.

Harrowing CCTV footage shows the killer, identified only as Jose David N., repeatedly tossing the child into the water.

The little girl who could not swim is seen struggling to stay afloat as her stepfather stands by and watches. Other bathers as shown hastily exiting the pool, leaving the man to condemn the tot to a
horrific death.

The shocking surveillance footage was filmed in the city of Morelia, in the south-western Mexican state of Michoacan on August 12, 2015. It sparked outrage across South America when the video was made public.

The incident took place while the child’s mother was sleeping in a hotel room.

Jose David N. pleaded surprise after being told that the youngster had drowned, a court heard. But the CCTV footage was enough to convict him and see him jailed with no possibility of parole.

After deliberation, judges Juan Salvador Alonso Mejia, Ana Lilia Garcia Cardona and Noe Reyes Millan found him guilty of killing her.

Judge Garcia Cardona told the court how the stepfather even dragged the little girl’s hair and held her tiny body in such a position in the water that she was unable to breathe.

The defence had tried to suggest that the little girl had died outside the pool and not in the water, but this was rejected by the judges.

Messages From ISIS Territory Ask For Forgiveness For Murder

Correspondence, provided to The Intercept and Al Jazeera, was sent to a religious scholar living in Jordan who has been associated with radical groups in the past, but is critical of ISIS. The messages come from people in ISIL-held territory, both members of the group and civilians, who are seeking his religious advice. Seeking advice from religious figures is common in the Muslim world, but the recipient of these messages in particularly respected among ultra-conservative Muslims in Iraq, Syria and Jordan.

The religious figure is not named here in order to protect his legal status in Jordan.

The advice seekers are unrelated: one is an ISIS fighter in Fallujah, and the other is a Sunni Muslim civilian living in Mosul.

The correspondence took place from early June to mid August, and coincided with major events in those cities reported by international media – including the Iraqi government’s offensive to retake Fallujah and the increasing pressure on the inhabitants of Mosul in preparation for the operation.

“The battle for Fallujah was a success in that it ended with ISIS driven out and a government established that had representation from the local Sunni community,” says Nathaniel Rabkin, managing editor of the political risk publication Inside Iraq Politics.

“Having said that, there was a lot of ugliness associated with the campaign, including damage to infrastructure and allegations of abuses by Shia militia groups.”

Neighbours Defend Mum-Of-Two Arrested For ‘Stabbing Boyfriend To Death’

A mum-of-two has been arrested on suspicion of murder after allegedly stabbing her partner to death.
The woman, who has been named locally as Elizabeth Hart-Browne, 27, was detained shortly after 11pm on Saturday night at her home.

Neighbours recalled hearing “screams” shortly before the police arrived and a pool of blood could be seen near to the flat in Ealing, west London, yesterday.

It is believed the woman stabbed her partner named by a neighbour as Stephen Rayner, inside before he later collapsed outside the property.

One man, who did not want to be named, said: “She’s a lovely girl, she is decent, all I know is if she
has done what she’s done there must have been a cause for it. There’s more than what it looks like, she wouldn’t just do this, he would have had to have done something. He was quite an abusive guy behind closed doors, she was a decent girl, that’s all I’ve got to say.”

Another neighbour, Patrick Meehan, 72, who has lived in the block of flats for 20 years, said: “At about half 11 I heard girls screaming.

“And it went on till 1am, I heard a lot of commotion between half 11 and 1am.

“It was out here and it was mostly a girl screaming, or children, maybe even young girls.

“It’s the first time this sort of thing has happened, never anything this serious, it’s a fairly stable community.

“We have some people who come here and drink and fight and are loud, but nothing to this extreme.

“I heard something on Friday night, some sort of noise below me, there was shouting but last night was more real, the screams were more real.

“But I thought it was local people just drunk from the pub, I didn’t get up to look.

“It’s very sad someone has lost their life and it is shocking for it to happen so close to home.”
Flowers were left at the scene yesterday in a tribute to the man.

She is due to appear in court today.

The Lagos state police command has said a motorcyclist simply identified as Tunde who was found dead with a rope tied to his throat at an uncompleted building on Rasaki Sodande Street, Aboru on Sunday September 4, was murdered. Reacting to the incident, spokesperson of the state police command, Dolapo Badmos told the Nation that preliminary investigation showed the deceased was murdered

“We have ruled out the possibility of suicide because prelimanary investigations show that the man was killed. We do not know him. We only know his name is Tunde. He was strangled from our findings and we are trying to get to the bottom of the matter. For now, the case is under discreet investigation. All I can tell you is that it was not suicide. Police investigation will reveal more in due time.”

How Barrister Atsuete Was Killed In PortHarcourt – Police

The Rivers State Police Command has said from its initial findings, popular human rights activist and lawyer to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ken Atsuete, was killed when he went to pick his neighbour who had escaped from suspected kidnappers.

The APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been at daggers-drawn since news of the murder of Atsuete made the rounds last Monday.

While the APC said the state government and the PDP should be held liable because the slain Atsuete had announced he was going to expose how the PDP was parading a fake court order restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from releasing the result of Tai Local Government Area in the last rerun election, the PDP said the APC should allow the police do their job to unravel those responsible for his death.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Omoni Nnamdi (DSP), said last night that the police have so far established that Atsuete’s murder was not premeditated as he actually met his death while playing the good neighbour.

Nnamdi said: “Ken Atsuete’s neighbour, Pastor Abba Emmanuel, was abducted on Sunday by unknown gunmen at his gate at Aluu. But the pastor later that night escaped from his abductors and called his family. They would have gone that night to pick him (the pastor) up but the time was too late and they decided to go early in the morning. As the only man in the yard, Atsuete decided to accompany Abba Emmanuel’s wife at about 5a.m. to pick up the pastor.

“It was in this process that Atsuete was shot in his car.”

Nnamdi, however, assured the public that the police would in no distant time unravel Atsuete’s killers as the state Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has already swung into action.

“I can assure you that we will get and prosecute the killers as the state criminal investigation department is already on the matter,” he said.

It was additionally gathered that the late Atsuete might have survived if he had received medical attention on time.

A source said he was rushed to the nearby University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) but could not get attention as the doctors were on strike.

“It was in the process of taking him to another hospital that he gave up, having lost so much blood,” the source said.

Politics: In Rivers, It’s A Game Of Death.

I’m not used to too much prayer, but I must begin today’s piece with a word of prayer. I pray that God Almighty visits the killers of Barr. Ken Atsuwete (and their sponsors) with slow and painful death. Amen!

I pray that the divine punishment for the dastardly act of Monday constitutes the largest chunk of the inheritance, which the killers (and their sponsors) would pass on to their children and their children’s children in the fullness of time. Amen and Amen and Amen!

But, one question kept coming to my mind on Monday, as I tried to make sense of the senseless abduction and murder of the activist lawyer in Port Harcourt: Aren’t we back to a not-too-unfamiliar narrative? For, it would appear, Rivers State relapses into a feast of blood as soon as a new date for the now-jinxed re-run election is within the horizon.

Everything – including kidnapping, armed robbery and, as is in this case, heinous assassination – suddenly begins to take a political coloration. It is either that ‘blood-thirsty’ Governor Nyesom Wike is trying to intimidate opponents with violence (the APC narrative), or Rotimi Amaechi and his APC gang are unleashing mayhem in order to underscore their claim that Rivers State is not safe for any election to hold there.

And now, the murder of Atsuwete perfectly fits the bill: He is not only the lawyer of a former council chairman, who is facing trial in a murder case, but is also representing the 22 council chairmen elected on the platform of the APC and who were sacked by the Wike administration.

Expectedly, the APC says the lawyer’s assassination is the worst politically motivated killing in recent times, while PDP says the APC is politicising criminality and trivialising a serious matter. But while they’re vomiting all the high-sounding nonsense, somebody’s husband, a father, a breadwinner, a community leader, a voice of the voiceless lies stone cold. Dead!

Incidentally, while members of the NBA were holding their conference in Port Harcourt last week, I had fantasised about some hooded goons kidnapping a few prominent (and some not-so-prominent) lawyers – just to underscore the narrative that Rivers State was still not safe. Luckily, it never happened.

But before Wike and his camp could pop champagne, the goons mowed down Atsuwete, casting ominous pall over the proposed end-of-October date for the legislative re-run elections.

Of course, it’s understandable: The ‘insecurity’ narrative is the thin thread on which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has hung its stubborn refusal to conduct outstanding National and State Assembly elections in Rivers State.

In fact, INEC has so foot-dragged on the matter that it is now very clear that there is more to the Rivers situation than meets the eye – something beyond the control of our ‘independent’ INEC.

At one point, the postponement of the elections was blamed on a mysterious fire that razed an INEC office in the state. Even when Wike said he offered to quickly rebuild the burnt office, INEC reportedly claimed it lost some ‘sensitive materials’ in the inferno and would have to call off the election. But as the governor would cynically observe, “where did we ever hear that INEC released ‘sensitive materials’ more than three weeks to an election?”

This seeming hide-and-seek game has since forced Wike to conclude that a phony game is afoot – so much so that today, he seems to have just one message for whoever cares to listen: “Tell INEC to come and conduct our elections…Tell INEC that Rivers State is safe.”

It was the same message he gave to the Nigerian Guild of Editors conference a couple of weeks ago. He repeated it to visiting Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola. And this Monday, he threw the same challenge at his colleagues in the NBA, whom he said had kept quiet in the face of the anomaly.

Similarly, in February, when the old students association of my secondary school, Federal Government College, Ilorin, held a reunion in the Garden City, an aide of the governor’s kept reassuring me of my safety in Port Harcourt. I ended up not making the trip, but everyone who did came back with pleasant memories. So, is this the same Port Harcourt that INEC is mortally afraid of? I just wonder!

Isn’t it unfair that nearly one and a half years into the four-year tenure of the present legislature, Rivers State has been forced to live without its full compliment of representation at the National Assembly? Or isn’t Rivers supposed to be bound by the laws passed by the eighth National Assembly?

Clearly, the excuse of insecurity is no longer tenable, especially, now that the state is relatively safe.

While one would wish the wrath of God on whoever wastes the life of a fellow human being just to score a political point, it is pertinent to note that Rivers state remains safer than several states in the North East (and even North Central), where INEC has since conducted both the main elections and the re-run elections – in spite of Boko Haram and rampaging herdsmen.

Even the PDP settled for Rivers State as venue for its convention a few weeks ago. The only insecurity issue that arose from there came from the seemingly partisan police, which sealed the original venue, under the guise of securing it.

Of course, the happenings in PDP, with relations to the seen and unseen hands, will be topic for another day. Until then, however, one must keep wondering if the APC does not deserve a medal for the confusion tearing PDP apart.

For now, my concern is with Wike’s Rivers State. Clearly, the touted insecurity exists only in the imagination (and machination) of INEC, the police and their paymasters. But, for as long as they keep trying to hide in the open, so long too will Rivers State remain an open sore on the conscience of President Buhari’s government – a living testimony to its curious democracy credentials.

But, of course, rather than wake us up to the need to do the needful, this assassination in Rivers will offers us opportunity to play politics some more. For politics appears to be the only thing going on in the country at the moment – even as the price of a bag of rice hits N18,500, five hundred naira higher than the minimum wage, which (even in the height of our recent past affluence) most of our governors said was too much for them to pay.

Today, our earning power has drastically reduced, people have been kicked out of their jobs. Those still in employment are owed several months’ arrears of salary.

The governors are still playing politics with workers – auditing staff, verifying staff, forever searching for ghost workers, and still refusing to pay those who have been cleared. With their eyes already fixed on 2019, the governors don’t want to sack, even when they know they cannot (or do not want to) pay.

Yes, as we’re all starving to death, the leaders are busy politicking. From APC states to PDP states, the preoccupation is with partisan politics. There is no talk about putting food on the table of the masses, beyond lip service, that is.

It is the same story from Bauchi (where Speaker Yakubu Dogara recently mobilised his supporters to go protest against Gov. Mohammed Abubakar) to Imo (where they are going to the land of the dead and back). Kano (where they’re playing politics with mass wedding), Edo (where they’re campaigning and dancing, as if they’re high on some cheap substances), Ondo (where they have introduced juju into the mix), Kogi (where they’re already stoning themselves), Enugu (where rampaging herdsmen have found a soft target) and Ekiti (where the herdsmen politics has played into a cul-de-sac).

And when all these do not provide the needed distraction, they mouth security, corruption, IPOB, Avengers. Just anything, apart from putting food on the table, returning people to employment and reining down the Dollar that is forever looking skyward. We have been preparing to go into agriculture to diversify the economy for nearly two years now. Two planting seasons have passed us by. Surely, this is a game of death.

Man Murders Wife’s Lover On Matrimonial Bed

A 32-year-old businessman, Ezekiel Igbokwe, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly killing his wife’s lover, Victor Olatundun.

Igbokwe was said to have killed Olatundun after he caught him having sex with his wife at their matrimonial home. The suspect allegedly committed the offence at about 12am at Peace Lodge on Itura Street, Awa Ijebu, Ijebu-North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The suspect, who committed the crime on Wednesday, July 27, was arrested by the police the following day.

Igbokwe and his 28-year-old wife were among the 23 suspects paraded at the Ogun State Police Command headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Thursday, for various offences ranging from murder to illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

Igbokwe, who said he was a businessman, explained that he had returned from his trip to Onitsha and met Victor on top of his wife on their matrimonial bed. He said he picked a machete in the toilet and cut the victim in the neck and hand.

Olatundun reportedly died on the way to the hospital. Igbokwe, who deals in electronics, said he was born in Ago Iwoye, Ogun State.

He said, “I travelled to Onitsha on July 25, and when I came back on July 27, I met a man inside my room making love to my wife. Then we started fighting. The man was stronger than me. When I saw he could overpower me, I got a cutlass in my toilet and dealt him blows in the hand and neck. On the way to the hospital, the fuel in the car finished and he died.”

Igbokwe said he committed the crime due to anger, adding that he never meant to kill the victim. He claimed that he had never met Olatundun before, saying he also never suspected that his wife was having an extra-marital affair with anyone.

Punch Metro learnt that Igbokwe and his wife, Juliet, have three children aged nine, seven and five. Juliet, who sobbed intermittently, said her alleged lover had been pressurising her for a relationship for some time.

She explained that she had always told him she was married, but the victim never gave up until he ended up at their matrimonial home on that night. Juliet, who said she sold snuff, said Victor was her supplier and he pestered her for six months before she finally gave in.

She said she suspected that the deceased used a charm on her, as she could not explain how it all happened. She said, “He had been disturbing me that he wanted to marry me, but I said I was married.

“On the day of the incident, I really can’t say if he used a charm on me. All I know is that he called me that he wanted to see me and I told him not to come; he knew my house and when he came, I didn’t know what happened.

“He used to come and deliver snuff to me in the house. On the day of the incident, he told me he was coming from somewhere and that it was already late. He wanted to sleep in our place till the next day. He didn’t know that my husband was away. He tried to sleep with me, but later he didn’t.”

Juliet, who claimed that she got married to her husband in 2005, said the husband did not take good care of her and the children.
She said their marriage had been turbulent and fraught with fights and quarrels.

The mother of three said each time there was a fight, her husband would leave the house for months.

Woman Visits Ex-Husband’s Home, Murders Wife

A jilted woman stormed a Nairobi home of her ex-husband and murdered his current wife in cold blood, police have said. Kasarani police are holding three suspects in connection to the murder of the 35-year-old woman at Greenwood estate in Kasarani.

The victim, only identified as Wanja, was found in the living room lying in a pool of blood by the caretaker of the house on the night of March 29, 2016.

The caretaker told police that he went into the house only to find the man’s ex-wife in the company of an unidentified man cleaning blood stains from the walls.

He then called the brother of the victim’s husband to inform him of the tragic incident, before alerting the police.

Kasarani OCPD Robinson Mboloi told Nairobi News, “The woman is an ex-wife of the owner of the said building and we have arrested the two suspects, a woman and a young man who were found wiping blood on the floor by the caretaker of the house.”

He added that although it’s the caretaker who reported the matter to the police, they still had to detain him to ascertain if he was involved or not.

“The case is still being investigated and once the investigations are completed we will take them to court. For now all three suspects are in Police custody,” Mboloi said.

US Man To Die By Lethal Injection For Gunning Down Daughters As He Made Their Mom Listen On The Phone

A 60-year-old former US Marine is set to die by lethal injection tomorrow for gunning down his two young daughters as their mum listened on the phone.

John Battaglia sprayed Faith, nine, and Liberty, six, with bullets from his 45 caliber pistol in his home’s loft in the town of Livingston, Texas, on May 2, 2001.

He had picked them up for a regular custody visit on the day he learned there was a warrant out for his arrest for violating probation, which he was serving after being convicted of assaulting his
ex-wife.

She called police because he had left an abusive message on her phone.

“Mommy, why do you want Daddy to have to go to jail?” Faith asked her mother Mary Jean Pearle before she died.

Then Ms Pearle heard Faith say: “No, Daddy, please don’t do it.”

The horrified mother heard gunshots, followed by Battaglia screaming: “Merry f*****g Christmas”.

More gunshots followed.

Battaglia then went to a nearby tattoo parlour and had two roses – representing the two daughters he had just gunned down – inked on his arm.

It was there he was arrested by police.

When asked what he feels about their death, he said: “Why would I worry about where they are
now?

“We’re all here; we’re all gone at the same time. I’m not worried about it.”

Battaglia will be the sixth Texan executed this year, and the 537th since the state reinstated the death penalty in 1976.

SA Rapper’s Girlfriend Gets 12 Years in Prison For His Murder

The ex-girlfriend of South African rapper Nkululeko Habedi, known as Flabba, has been sentenced to 12 years for his murder. Judge Solly Sithole ordered that Sindisiwe Manqele should not be granted parole until she had served at least two thirds of the sentence, which is eight years.

There was a collective gasp from the gallery when the sentence was announced in a High Court in Johannesburg.  Manqele, whose head was covered in a red scarf, looked on stony faced.

She is however appealing the sentence and is currently applying to extend her bail while pending the outcome of the appeal.

Flabba was a member of Skwatta Kamp, considered the pioneers of South African hip hop. He died a year ago after a heated row with Manqele.

Prosecutors say she was jealous of seeing him talking to an ex-lover and stabbed him through the chest. She said she acted in self-defence.

Two Nigerian Teenagers, One Other Jailed For Their Part In The Killing Of Nigerian Fitness Trainer, Michael Adegbite

28 year old Michael Adegbite, a model, fitness instructor and teaching assistant who campaigned against knife crime was stabbed to death on Sunday, July 19, 2015 after the suspects pretended to be interested in buying the second hand MacBook laptop he advertised on a classified website- Gumtree for 200 pounds.

On Thursday, February 4, 2016, the Old Bailey court heard how Mr Adegbite had been lured by the three teenagers, Christopher Nzeh, Montel Ajayi and Isaac Owen-Brady, so they could steal the computer. Thre three were found not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter.
Christopher Nzeh, 18, of Hitchin, was sentenced to 21-and-a-half years in prison after he was found guilty of manslaughter and previously admitted conspiracy to commit robbery and possession of a bladed article.
Isacc Owen-Brady, 18, of Enfield, was jailed  for 12 years after he was found guilty of possession of the knife that killed Mr Adegbite. He also pleaded guilty to robbery and possession of a bladed article at a previous hearing in relation to a separate offence.
Montel Ajayi, 19, of Waltham Cross, was jailed for five years for conspiracy to commit robbery.
Adegbite arranged to meet the men after a friend advertised his Apple MacBook for sale on an internet site. An agreement to make the sale was reached to meet in Auckland Close, Enfield. Adegbite and a friend drove to the meeting and were approached by the teenagers who identified themselves as the buyers.
The laptop was shown to the men and passed around between them but one of them produced a knife and threatened Adegbite and his friend. Adegbite managed to snatch the MacBook.
Adegbite phoned a friend who lived nearby to tell him what happened and he came to meet them at the car carrying a metal bar and a hammer. The three men then drove around looking for the men who tried to rob them and found them about a mile away in Lackmore Road, Enfield. Adegbite got out of the car armed with the iron bar. Witnesses described seeing Nzeh swing at Michael with a knife and miss before a second attempt struck him on the chest. He fell to the ground and died despite desperate attempts by medics called to the scene Despite extensive efforts by the attending medics, they were unable to save him.
The three suspects were later arrested. The knife used to kill Mr Adegbite was found hidden in a garden through a small hole in the fence in a deliberate act to conceal it. All three were questioned but refused to answer questions about the crime. However, a thorough investigation by detectives fro the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command linked them to the crime with forensic and witness evidence.
Michael Adegbite’s family issued a warning to those who arm themselves with knives and asked them to consider the consequences of doing so.

“Michael’s family and friends have been shattered by the decision of Christopher Nzeh to carry a knife,” they said.

“Michael had never been in trouble with the police and was a young man who had everything to live for.

“We urge people to think about the tragic consequences that can come from carrying a knife, and never to take your personal safety for granted.

“If just one person decided to stop carrying a knife, it would be a fitting tribute to Michael and everything he stood for.”

Detective Sergeant Ben Wayment of the Homicide and Major Crime Command said: “Michael was a good person who was targeted by three men who had planned to rob him. Although they intended to steal, what was taken was Michael’s life; the crime left his family and friends inconsolable and this is a terrible waste of an innocent young life. These men have been sentenced today, not least because the public did so much to bring those responsible to justice. I want to thank all those who came to Michael’s direct aid and those who helped police arrest and prosecute those responsible”

Texas Teenager Kills Mom, 2 Neighbors And Commits Suicide

A 19-year-old killed his mother and two neighbors before turning his gun on himself in a shooting that brought SWAT and various emergency vehicles to a rural area in Texas, authorities said Sunday.

Uvalde County Sheriff Charlie Mendeke said Dylan Westerburg gunned down his mother Friday afternoon in their home near Uvalde, about 85 miles west of San Antonio. He then went next door and killed two brothers, Arthur and Phinny Norton, Mendeke said.
Mendeke said investigators haven’t determined a clear motive for the shootings. Westerburg lived with his mother in a small cabin about 20 yards from the Nortons’ mobile home on the brothers’ property.
Phinny Norton, 60, had some “sort of romantic relationship” with Westerburg’s mother, 42-year-old Jennifer Diane Jacques, Mendeke said. Deputies had been called out to the property in the past because of domestic disputes but “nothing violent,” Mendeke said.
Authorities arrived at the scene after a teenage witness called them. The teenage boy was with Arthur Norton, 58, when they saw shotgun shells and broken glass as they approached the Nortons’ mobile home, Mendeke said.

“Mr. Norton enters the house,” Mendeke said. “The kid who was with him hears and sees a gun blast and sees Mr. Norton fall to the floor” before running to call authorities.

When officers arrived they heard another gunshot. Not knowing whether there were multiple gunmen or whether the gunman was dead, authorities surrounded the homes and began evacuating people nearby.
It was during that search that they found Jacques’ body. The family’s dog had also been killed.
Mendeke said he called in about 50 to 60 officers from different agencies as well as a Texas Department of Public Safety SWAT team out of caution. Authorities closed the road leading to the property and they stayed there overnight.

“I didn’t know how many shooters I had in the Norton residence when I found the mother,” he said. “You’re looking at farm- and ranchland. You could get into a dangerous situation.”

The SWAT team finally entered the Nortons’ mobile home on Saturday afternoon and found the Norton brothers and Westerburg dead inside. Mendeke said Westerburg had shot himself in the head.

10 Killed And Hundreds Homeless As Herdsmen Attack Benue Villages

About 10 people were feared dead yesterday, in fresh attacks between Fulani herdsmen and farmers at Tom-Anyiin and Tom-Ataan communities, Mbaya, Tombu in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State. The Council Chairman, Godwin Iorsue, the Divisional Police Officer at Buruku, the Area Commander and some security operatives in the area, on assessment tour of the communities, were ambushed and attacked by the herdsmen who had seized the area after they chased off the indigenes.
The renewed crisis has created a huge refugee situation in the area with over 300 people displaced from the affected communities and scores injured in the bloody attack.

A source from one of the affected communities said that the Fulani invaders stormed the communities
late Saturday night, shooting sporadically and burning down houses, huts, food barn, farmland and economic trees.
The source said:

“As I speak with you, fighting is still raging in the affected communities. Although I cannot give you a precise figure of the dead, about 10 have been killed, many are missing and many others sustained injures.”

The Council Chairman, Mr. Godwin Iorsue said they were ambushed and attacked by the herdsmen as they went to assess the extent of damage that had been done by the Herdsmen.
He said: “It was only God that saved us. They were over 30 and well armed while we had only four armed police officers with us. Our cars were perforated with bullets.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent Moses Yamu said:

“The people ran away from their communities in fear of a possible attack by Fulani herdsmen, but there were neither killing nor destruction of property in the area. “I can confirm that the DPO, the Area Commander, the Caretaker Council Chairman and selected stakeholders were attacked by suspected herdsmen when they visited to assess the situation in the area.

Man Arrested For Murdering His Baby Mama & Their 2 Year Old Daughter Over Child Support Payments

25 year old Daron Boswell-Johnson, has been arrested for allegedly murdering his baby mama, 26 year old NeShante Davis (pictured left) and their 2 year old daughter, Chloe Davis-Green, (pictured right). According to police reports, Daron lied-in-wait for the mother and child outside their home in Maryland, USA on Tuesday morning Feb. 2nd and as they came out around 7am, he shot both of them multiple times, killing them. He then fled the scene. He was caught the next day!

According to News4, the alleged killer was angry over $600 in monthly child support he had been
ordered to pay. He had initially refused to pay it, asking for a DNA. He was confirmed to be Chloe’s father in December 2015 through a DNA test conducted as part of a paternity suit.

The killer and his ex had had many confrontations over the child and child support payments but nobody suspected he would go this far!

Police Officer Who Battered His Wife To Death For Refusing Sex Jailed For Life

PC Adrian Goldsmith was jailed for life on February 1 at Stafford Crown Court after he was found guilty of killing his wife.

Goldsmith, 50, beat wife Jill, 49, with a mallet, paint pot and heavy battery then stabbed himself to make it look like self-defence. He tried to trick colleagues and a jury into thinking she had attacked him first at their home close to Northants Police headquarters.
Goldsmith also known as Otis, was arrested after his wife was found dead in March last year. The lying policeman even made out Mrs Goldsmith had “self-harmed” in the moments before her death.
But a jury at Stafford Crown Court dismissed his fantasy defence and found him guilty of murder. Judge Paul Glenn who delivered the sentence said he must spend at least 15 years behind bars before he can be considered for parole.
The officer, who has been dismissed from the force, showed no emotion as he was sentenced.
“You set about establishing a defence in an attempt to avoid the consequences of your actions. You lied repeatedly to the police, to the doctors who were treating you and to the prison chaplain some weeks later when you were on remand. You had caused injuries to yourself to enable the defence you ran at your trial to get off the ground.”
Judge Glenn rejected Goldsmith’s claims that his wife had become violent and aggressive shortly before she died.
“Jill Goldsmith was a mother, a daughter and a friend of many. No sentence the court can impose can even begin to compensate for the loss and anguish the family are feeling. The nature of this attack was such that your victim would inevitably have suffered physically before she died. There were multiple blows, predominantly to the head. She must have been in terror as she fought for her life, as I am satisfied she did.”
Goldsmith, also known as Otis, was a serving officer at the time of the offence and had 28 years of service and a number of commendations. The officer, of Wootton Hall Park, Northampton, denied murder. According to the prosecutor, John Lloyd-Jones, QC:
“Jill was undergoing the menopause and the reduction in her sex drive annoyed and frustrated the defendant.”
The victim’s heartbroken son Charlie Bailey said in an impact statement that his mother’s death means “there is a massive part of me missing”

Man Turns Himself In 6 Months After He Killed His Cousin Over A Girl, Says He Had No Peace Of Mind

22-year-old Ndifreke Joseph Clement from Akwa Ibom state who killed his 23-year-old cousin, Ubong Edet, over a girl surrendered himself to police six months after he committed the murder.
Clement said he slit his cousin’s throat after beating him to coma because Edet slept with his girlfriend in August 2015.

He said:
“I cannot remember the exact date now, but it occurred in a night in August 2015 in the one room
apartment we shared. On that day, I returned from work to meet the door locked.
“I knocked on the door and waited for over five minutes before my cousin could come to open the door. When I went into the room, I saw my girlfriend weeping and blood running from her nostrils.
“I asked her what happened and she said Ubong beat, wounded and forcefully had sex with her. But after opening the door for me, Ubong went away and did not come back until very late in the night.

“When I asked him why he did what he did to my girlfriend, he started punching me and I retaliated.

“We fought for a very long time before I could subdue him. I then picked my cow-butchering knife and cut his throat, carried his dead body and dumped it in the bush very close to the house and threw the knife into the pit toilet.

“I have brought myself to the police even when nobody knew that I killed him. I have come to plead for forgiveness because since I killed my cousin, I no longer have peace of mind. I am always disturbed in my mind and dream.”

The Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Cordelia Nwawe, said the suspect would be arraigned in court soon.

Hoodlums Stab LAWMA Worker In The Eye For Tipping Off Police

A worker with the Lagos State Waste Management Agency, Oluwaseun Thomas, is currently on admission at a private hospital on the Lagos Island, after hoodlums stabbed him in the eye for allegedly reporting their activities to the police.

Thomas was said to have been beaten up by the hoodlums, before they stabbed him in the eye.

Punch Metro learnt that Thomas, whose work area was Oja Oba Market on Dosumu Street, was initially rushed to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba, to remove the hoodlums’ knife which was left in his head, before being taken to a private hospital for further treatment.

It was  gathered that Thomas had supplied information, through a community leader in the area, to the police Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, that hoodlums kept weapons in a hideout in the market.
The SARS policemen were said to have stormed the market, and recovered the weapons, including cutlasses, knives and guns, but they were unable to arrest the hoodlums.

On Thursday, January 21, 2016, at about 9pm, Thomas, who was on a night duty, was clearing some refuse in the market when the hoodlums attacked him.Apart from Thomas, some other workers of the agency at the market were also attacked.

After stabbing him in the eye through the side of his head, the hoodlums abandoned the LAWMA worker by the roadside with the knife stuck in his eye.Residents, who alerted the police at the Adeniji Adele division, were said to have also rushed him to LUTH.

Speaking with PUNCH Metro, a resident, Saheed Alatise, said he initially thought the hoodlums came to extort money from the LAWMA workers.

He said, “The hoodlums got information that some LAWMA workers gave the police information on the location of their weapons.
“It was not only Seun (Thomas) that they attacked. They stabbed other LAWMA workers who were rushed to the Lagos Island General Hospital for treatment as well.“However, they focused on Thomas as they threw him to the ground and punched him. They brought out knives and stabbed him, leaving one of the knives in his eye.”

Our correspondent gathered that a LAWMA driver, identified simply as Suraju, and one Azeez Taofeeq, were among those who sustained injuries.

Another eyewitness, identified only as Alao, said,

“The hoodlums were about 10 men. They were led by Agoro, Matanmi and Marcus. Thomas had informed the police about their criminal activities in the market. That was why the hoodlums came after him.”

A woman, who is a community leader, but spoke on condition of anonymity, said the attack on the LAWMA worker was successful partly because he put on his earphones on the night of the incident.

She said, “Thomas just finished secondary school and he is looking for money to start his university education.
“His father is late, and the boy is just struggling. His offence was that he hinted us that hoodlums were hiding guns in the market
“After that police operation, they came after him. What made the attack successful was that he had earphones on and did not hear the commotion when the hoodlums stormed the market. The knife has been removed, but he is still in a coma.”

Thomas could not speak with PUNCH Metro due to his condition. Doctors at the hospital said he was still unconscious.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, also confirmed the incident, adding that the police were waiting for the complainant to give a lead on the arrest of the hoodlums.

She said, “The matter was reported on that day and the police gave the victim a medical paper to go to the hospital and treat himself. However, he has not turned up since then to allow the police follow up the case.“The police have been calling him to provide a statement that will lead us to make an arrest, but we have not seen him. We assume he is no longer interested in pursuing the matter.”

Grandfather Stabs His Two-Months-Old Grandchild To Death, Wife And Daughter Also Stabbed

A two-month-old baby girl was found stabbed to death in a suburb south of Brisbane, Australia, Courier Mail reports. Qianqian “Queenie” Xu was allegedly stabbed by her grandfather at the family’s home in Parkinson about 2.30pm yesterday, January 6.
The child was found in critical state by the police authorities. Passersby and neighbours reported hearing horrific screams coming from inside the house. The police officials who responded to calls from neighbours rushed inside and took the critically injured infant to hospital but the baby could not be saved. She succumbed to injuries.
Her grandmother and mother, Yuanyuan Cao, 28, originally from Luoyang in China, were also stabbed. Ms Yuanyuan’s partner George was working at the time of the attack.

Detective Inspector Tony Duncan told a media conference investigators were still searching for answers as to why the tragedy unfolded.

Duncan said the baby’s father was at work when police believe the grandfather started stabbing the trio. The father, a small-business owner, did not know his child was dead until detectives told him. He is being comforted by family.
Duncan also added that there were no recent incidents at the home to point to such a horrific turn of events.
“The father actually expressed his surprise that something could happen,” he said.
The grandparents had travelled to Australia from China in December as the baby’s mother prepared to return to work at a bank and needed help with childcare.
They had previously been in the country in September for the birth of the child.
Det Insp Duncan said the grandfather, 53, who was found in the front yard of the property with life-threatening injuries, which police believe may have been self-inflicted. All three underwent surgery last night. The grandfather was out of intensive care and is expected to speak with police in the coming days. The grandmother is still in intensive care, and the mother is recovering and has spoken with police.
The horrific incident took place supposedly after an argument broke out between the grandparents and the young mother.

Lufthansa Passenger Tries To Open Plane Door Mid Flight

A passenger on a Lufthansa flight on its way from Frankfurt to Belgrade on Sunday was detained after he threatened to open the plane door and bring down the aircraft.

Banging on a cockpit door, the man reportedly threatened to down the Lufthansa plane as it was flying over Austria. He was quickly restrained by the crew and some passengers on-board.

“A passenger got up and tried to do something at the door, but was stopped by crew members and other passengers,” said Lufthansa spokesman Andreas Bartels.

Flight 1406 eventually landed in Belgrade, its planned destination, where the troublemaker was handed over to local police and arrested.

The man, who turned out to be an American citizen of Jordanian descent, is currently being interrogated by the police and will spend 48 hours in detention before facing trial, according to Serbia’s public prosecutor, as reported by the Blic daily.

Milan Djukic, a Serbian handball team player who was also on the same plane, said the man had looked suspicious even before they boarded the plane.

“About halfway into the flight he tried to open a plane door, but the cabin crew stopped him,” Djukic told Blic. It was a normal door, which of course cannot be opened in-flight… it was not the cockpit door,” Bartels added.

Assistant coach Milan Mirkovic and handball player Aleksej Rastvorcev calmed the man down, while other passengers had no idea what was going on, he said, adding that two players kept an eye on the rowdy, who was in business class, for the rest of the flight.

Granddad Describes How He Drowned Grandson In Bath Tub

A man accused of murdering his own grandson today told how he drowned the youngster in a bath – but he continues to plead not guilty to murder.
Stewart Greene, 65, killed Alex Robinson, nine, while his mum was out shopping for a Christmas turkey.

Giving evidence in court he apologised to his daughter Joanne, ex-wife Andrea and Alex’s dad John.
Greene said: “I’m so sorry to Joanne and Andrea and to John Robinson.

“The truth is I killed Alex. I thought about it the night before. “I walked Alex into the bathroom and put him in the bath. I’d run the bath before I called him. Two taps running quicker.

“I think at the time he asked me if I was going to wash myself. “I picked him up and put him in the bath and drowned him. He was struggling. He struggled until I drowned him.”

He told the jury that after he realised Alex was dead he had a cigarette and sat down.
He admitted that he did nothing to help Joanne and Andrea when they made desperate attempts at CPR.
Greene was discharged from a psychiatric unit against his will two weeks before the killing on December 23 last year.
Lincoln Crown Court heard he later told a psychiatrist “I’m just an evil murdering b*****d who killed his grandson”.
During cross-examination Michael Evans QC asked Greene: “You knew you wanted to kill Alex. Is that right?”
Greene replied: “Yes… I knew I was killing him. Yes. I killed Alex.
Greene then added: “I don’t think I can say any more. I’ve admitted the offence. “I’ve done what I’ve done.”
The trial continues.

Woman who Tried to Kill Her Husband for the 2nd Time Gets Busted By One Stupid Mistake

A British woman who tried to kill her husband has been sentenced to 15 years in jail after a spelling mistake got her busted!

55-year-old Jacqueline Patrick was really fed up with her husband, Douglas Patrick because she didn’t just try to kill him once, but twice!

Douglas, who is a London bus driver, was left fighting for his life on Christmas Day in 2013 after Jacqueline poisoned his favourite drink, she had put anti-freeze in his cherry Lambrini and gave it to him alongside a late night supper.

The Inner London Crown Court heard that after he collapsed, Jacqueline forged a note that said Mr
Patrick did not wish to be revived which she gave to paramedics. Police however realised the note had been forged when they spotted the word ‘dignity’ on it had been misspelled as ‘dignaty’. When they asked Mrs Patrick to write the word, she made the same mistake.

Katherine
Her daughter, 21 year-old Katherine Patrick, also pleaded guilty to inciting her mother to administer a noxious substance and was jailed for three years.

Reacting to the crime, police said Mr Patrick had been lucky to survive the plot:

Mr Patrick came very close to dying and while he lay in his hospital bed fighting for his life, his wife told lie after lie to cover her tracks. Perhaps most shocking of all was the note she gave to the London Ambulance Service purporting to be from her husband, stating that he did not wish to be resuscitated.

This was a calculated and well-planned plot and I am pleased Patrick admitted her crimes and her daughter also pleaded guilty to her role in encouraging her mother to act in this appalling manner. Their actions will now see them spend a considerable period behind bars.

This was the second time Jacqueline had tried to poison her 70 year old husband with anti-freeze after making a previous attempt in October 2012.

Indonesia: Man Kills Wife’s Rapist, Chops Off His Penis, Cooks And Eats It

A newly-wed Indonesian couple have been arrested over claims they dined on the genitals of the woman’s suspected rapist after her husband allegedly murdered him and cut off his private parts, police said on Tuesday.

According to the AFP, the victim’s body was found in a burnt-out van after a suspected revenge attack sparked by claims from the new wife she was raped a week before her wedding on Sumatra island.

The husband, 30-year-old Rudi Efendi, has admitted murdering the man after discovering his wife was not a virgin on their wedding night in September and being told of the alleged rape, but insists he acted alone.

“I was so outraged,” Efendi told reporters after his arrest last month, adding that deciding to eat the victim’s genitals was “to cure my heartache”.

Police say that after murdering the man, Efendi took home the victim’s severed genitals, ordered his 20-year-old wife to cook them, and the pair then ate them together.

The victim was a driver, whom the wife used to date.

Sulistyaningsih, a local police spokeswoman who goes by one name, told AFP, “The case is still under investigation but we strongly suspect that this is a premeditated murder.”

The husband is accused of carrying out the murder, while police believe the wife acted as an accomplice.

The victim was found dead in early October in a burnt-out van in Tulangbawang district, Lampung province. Police later arrested Efendi and his wife.

Efendi had ordered his wife to contact the victim and set up a meeting, according to police. But when the victim arrived, he found only Efendi, who then allegedly stabbed him to death, cut off his genitals and set the vehicle on fire.

Lampung Police chief Brig. Gen. Edward Syah Pernong said that when Rudi’s wife Nency heard about the discovery of an unidentified body in a burned-out black Daihatsu Xenia in Penumangan Lama village, West Tulangbawang Regency, on Oct. 4, she believed the body could be that of her missing husband.

“Nency recognized the burned-out car as the one her husband drove in his work as a chauffeur for a travel agency,” Edward said, as quoted by Tribunnews.com on Monday.

“The Policeman Who Murdered My Mum Must Be Killed Immediately” – Angel Macleod

The 14-year-old, tennis player, Angel Mcleod, has demanded that the trigger-happy policeman who shot her mother, Beauty Mcleod, dead should be ‘killed immediately’, saying he has taken away her joy.

Angel said she had been struggling to come out of the shock since the news of her mother’s death was broken to her.

Beauty, also a tennis player, was allegedly shot on Sunday, October 25, by one Corporal Joseph Aminu, who was attached to the Emperor’s Guest House on Balarabe Musa Crescent, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Beauty, who was from Anambra State, and Angel had lodged in the hotel in the afternoon of the
fateful day on their arrival from Accra, Ghana, where the daughter had gone for a tournament.

It was learnt that the 37-year-old woman was going outside the hotel around 10pm to meet a friend, Betsy Garrett, who was waiting at the car park, when the security guard challenged her, claiming that she had been going out repeatedly.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the guard called Aminu to intervene in the matter and it degenerated into an altercation between the policeman and the woman.

“I was told the security guard complained that my mum kept coming in and out and he got angry and then he called the policeman. The policeman slapped my mum and she had to retaliate with a stone. He eventually shot her in the leg and she started losing a lot of blood.

“I am just trying not to remember it (mother’s death). Any time I remember it, my spirit goes down. He (Aminu) does not deserve to be alive. He should be killed immediately. He has taken away my joy and everything I have in my life,” Angel said.

Her corpse was said to have been deposited at the Marina General Hospital, Lagos Island for autopsy.

Garrett, who also called for Aminu’s execution, said her friend might not have died if she was rescued on time. She lamented that after Aminu had shot Beauty in the leg, he left her to bleed and writhe in pain for about an hour before he permited rescuers to take her to St Nicholas Hospital, where she died.

Speaking with our correspondent on Saturday, Garrett, recounted the incident and how the corporal frustrated efforts to save her friend’s life.

She said, “She called me that night that she was shopping at 1004. I went to pick her there, dropped her at the hotel and waited for her at the car park. On coming out of her hotel room, the policeman ran after her. He complained that she was coming in and out and that she was disturbing them (he and others) from sleeping.

“He ran after her to where I was and attacked her. I separated them and asked what the problem was but neither of them told me. He corked the gun and I pleaded with him to drop it. Immediately he did, he gave her a heavy blow in the face. She ran towards the other direction, picked a stone and threw it at him. He pulled the gun and shot her in the leg.

“After she fell, he pointed the gun at me. I screamed and begged him to leave me. I ran, calling people to come and see how they could disarm him so that I could take my friend to the hospital. About four persons came. He pointed the gun at them and everybody ran away. It was after about 60 minutes that he allowed me to take her inside the car and he sat with me while I took her to the hospital.

“On our way, he stopped me and got down. It was shortly after I took her to the hospital that she died. The police must compensate her family and ensure that the policeman is killed too; he does not deserve to live.”

The deceased’s brother, Mr. Callistus Nwankwo, said he was not pleased with the way the matter was being handled by the police.

He said, “The police are not handling the case properly. When we went to the Maroko Police Station, where we learnt that the policeman was attached to, the DPO told us that the policeman was from the command headquarters in Ikeja. He said the man was not supposed to have been given a gun.”

Nwankwo added that he was looking up to the government and well-meaning Nigerians to assist in the upbringing of the deceased’s daughter.

Husband Stabbed In The Back 3 Times By His Wife When He Decided To Leave His Abusive Marriage

Simon and Crystal Smith lived in Gosport, Hampshire with their four-year-old daughter. The 30 year old was a Leading Seaman in the Royal Navy and had been with his probation-worker wife Crystal for six years. Crystal was volatile. She controlled Simon’s finances and bullied him by threatening to take their daughter away if he ever left her. Little things could trigger her temper – from losing a board game to a bad-tasting gravy.

On the night of 12 February this year, Crystal and Simon attended a navy function for the crew of HMS Lancaster at the Royal Beach Hotel in Southsea. Simon had been reluctant to take her because he knew from experience that a night out could go very wrong. And he was right to worry.

In front of friends and colleagues, Crystal accused Simon of having an affair. It was an unfounded accusation that left Simon publicly humiliated. In the taxi on the way home, Crystal taunted him with a rap-style song. “I’m going to make it rain,” she sang. “I’m going to make it rain with pain.”

At home, Crystal threw a knife block at her husband, sending knives scattering across the floor. Simon calmly left the house, but made the decision to return for his keys and some belongings. Which was a big mistake.

Crystal had lost control and while Simon was in the bedroom packing a bag, she crept upstairs, clutching a kitchen knife. Simon didn’t hear her and was facing away from Crystal when she plunged the knife into his back three times.
Two of the wounds were at the top of his back, but the third went through the rear of his arm and severed an artery. Blood pulsed out, staining the room.

“What have you done?” Simon cried.

Crystal replied, “I’m going to go to prison for this…”

Simon staggered downstairs, applied a tourniquet and collapsed in the porch in a pool of blood while Crystal fled. As Simon called an ambulance, neighbours who had heard the commotion rushed to his aid.
Simon survived the attack but lost six pints of blood. He faced several operations and has not fully regained the feeling in his left arm.
Police arrested Crystal that night and charged her with attempted murder. With a trial approaching, Simon had one major concern. With men so often the abuser in domestic violence cases, would anyone believe that he was the victim?

The trial started this summer at Portsmouth Crown Court. Crystal had pleaded not guilty. The jury heard how Crystal had “crept up the stairs in stockinged feet” before stabbing Simon three times.
They heard about the domestic abuse Simon had suffered, including an outburst where she’d swung at him with a baseball bat and left a dent in the kitchen door.

Simon bravely gave evidence and talked about how his wife had been verbally abusive at the navy function they’d attended before the stabbing.

“I shut it down, tried to ignore it. I knew things would happen when we got home, that’s how it worked. “The phrase she used was, ‘Wait until we get home’.”

Simon recalled the first he knew about the stabbing was feeling the sensation of warm blood running down his arm.

After three hours of deliberation, the jury cleared Crystal of attempted murder but found her guilty of wounding with intent.
At the sentencing in August, Judge Sarah Munro QC addressed Crystal..

“As he calmly packed his bag you armed yourself with the sharpest knife. You crept up the stairs in stockinged feet and as his back was turned, stabbed him with glancing blows and one went through the back of his arm to the front, severing his arterial vessel and spurting vast quantities of blood all over him and you, and down the stairs as he went to get help.”

The judge added, “I’m quite satisfied the consequences of what you did very shortly hit you and at the time you stabbed Simon, you were fuelled by the fury you had worked yourself up to and had the intention to cause him really serious harm.”

She added that their marriage was ‘doomed to fail’.
Simon’s victim impact statement was read out in court. “I was the victim of sustained physical abuse from my wife Crystal over the six years we were together. Crystal was the only serious relationship I ever had.

“Because I had nothing to compare it to I simply accepted it as normal. This incident has had a profound impact on my life and will continue to do so over many years. I have lost feeling in my left arm and it may never return.”

Simon has taken a shore job in order to raise his daughter, and has been left with recurring nightmares.
As Crystal, 30, was sentenced to nine years she doubled over and hysterically cried out, “Please Simon, tell the truth, please Simon, tell the truth.”
The case put the spotlight on the subject of domestic violence against men. After the trial, Simon said he hopes to move on and raise his daughter.

“I expected to be called a liar and be accused of what she accused me of,” he added.

Police say the two allegedly left the baby unattended in a sink smelling of urine with hot running water, causing second degree burns to five percent of the baby’s body. Valentine and Houston also did not provide medical care for the child in a timely period, police said.

Aunt Creates A Fake Facebook Profile To Check On Her Niece And Ultimately Saves Her Own Life

An Alabama aunt thought her 19-year-old niece was spending too much time on Facebook recently, so she created a fake profile and befriended her to see what she was up to online. But as AL.com reports, the answer she got was more troubling than anything she could have imagined.
The niece is Marissa Williams. Williams’ aunt was puzzled by the constant stream of strangers always at her house, so she created a profile posing as a boy named Tre ‘Topdog’ Ellis and befriended her niece and that may have ultimately saved her life.
On the first day the two talked online, Williams invited Ellis over to her house to get drunk with her. She sent the fictitious boy her phone number and home address, and said she would have sex with him if he agreed to pay her $50 cell phone bill. As troubling as that is, things were about to take a much darker turn.

Just a few days later, Williams told Ellis that she hated her family and wanted to get out of Alabama. She asked Ellis to come kidnap her and said he should shoot her aunt if she tried to stop him.

As time went on, the conversations grew increasingly unnerving. Williams told Ellis, who to her was a strange man she had never met, how to break into her aunt’s room so he could kill her aunt and her aunt’s fiancée. Williams asked Ellis if he could leave his car parked outside during the break-in so she could pack her belongings into it while he killed her entire family.

After hearing the plan, Williams’ aunt decided she’d had enough and called the Sheriff’s Department. Williams admitted to the plan, but says she did not actually mean for anyone to be killed. Nevertheless, she was arrested and charged with the solicitation of murder. She is being held on $30,000 bond.

Oscar Pistorius To Be Released On October 20

Oscar Pistorius will be released on parole next week after serving one year of his five-year jail term for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, the South African department of correctional services said Thursday.

The parole board “approved the placement of offender Oscar Pistorius under correctional supervision as from 20 October 2015,” the department said in a statement.

Oscar Pistorius

“The parole board considered all submissions, including the offender’s profile report, the directives of the Parole Review Board and the submission of the victim’s family.”

The Paralympian star’s lawyers had argued that he should have been released and granted house arrest in August after serving one-sixth of his jail term sentence for killing Steenkamp in 2013.

But he remained behind bars after Justice Minister Michael Masutha made a last-minute intervention and the case was referred for review.

After meeting last week, the parole board said it wanted to consult with Steenkamp’s family over Pistorius’s possible release.

Steenkamp’s parents say Pistorius killed their daughter on purpose and have previously contested any parole.

Pistorius’s family had accused officials of bowing to “political and media hype” in denying him parole.

“I do think correctional services have probably considered how unfairly he has been treated. He should have been released on August 21,” Brian Webber, a lawyer representing Pistorius, told AFP last week.

In a trial that made headlines around the world, Pistorius, now 28, was jailed last year for killing Steenkamp, a model and law graduate.

He was found guilty of culpable homicide — a charge equivalent to manslaughter — after saying he shot her through a locked bathroom door because he mistook her for an intruder.

After his release, Pistorius will face a further test on November 3 when prosecutors appeal to South Africa’s Supreme Court for a murder conviction and a tougher sentence.

Once a poster boy for Paralympic sport, Pistorius, known as the “Blade Runner” for the prosthetic legs he wore on the track, rose to global fame when he raced against able-bodied competitors in the 2012 London Olympics.

Policeman Sentenced To Death By Hanging For Murder

A Rivers State High Court has sentenced one Inspector Samuel Timothy of the Nigeria Police to death by hanging for shooting and killing a sachet water dealer, Onyekachi Nwasouba.

Nwasouba, who was a graduate of Industrial Chemistry, was branded an armed robber by the police while he was on his way to distribute his products to customers within the Port Harcourt metropolis.

The deceased was shot dead by a team of policemen, led by Timothy, at the front of his residence, even after he (Nwasouba) shouted to the hearing of the policemen that he was only a pure water producer and not an armed robber.

A promising vet who accused her husband of having an affair hung herself in a hotel room and left a note to the ‘other woman’
Nicole Putney, 32, was once named Vet Student of the Year and was described as a “very talented young lady” but had become extremely depressed following the breakdown of her five-month marriage.
She killed herself after travelling to Manchester to attend a business conference and that she left a suicide note for a woman she believed was having an affair with her scientist husband.

The accomplished animal welfare expert told her dad that she was about to commit suicide.
Staff at the Novotel in Worsley, Greater Manchester were alerted by a friend of Ms Putney but were unable to get to her in time.

In his statement,Simon Mueller, a physicist at the International Energy Agency claimed her mental illness caused a strain in their marriage. He said

My relationship with my wife was harmonious to begin with. She quit her job and moved to Paris to be with me and our goal was to move to London.Nicole moved her things to Paris in late September 2014 but didn’t handle the transition very well. Our relationship deteriorated over a period of time.”

After their wedding Ms Putney began looking for jobs in London and it wasn’t long before she accepted an offer but that led to additional strain in their relationship.

We visited London on March 7. We had an argument and she told me she was going out to get a drink, then she text me saying she was going to jump in front of a train. “She was found and taken to an emergency care ward where she was hospitalised until 27 April.

Man Sets Himself On Fire Outside Japanese Embassy

An 81 year old South Korean man identified simply as Choi set himself on fire this morning Wednesday, August 12th outside the Japanese embassy in Seoul during a large protest over Japan’s forced recruitment of sex slaves to service military brothels during World War II.

Other protesters tried to douse the fire with blanket and bottled water before emergency services arrived. He was eventually removed to an ambulance and rushed to the hospital. Fortunately his condition is not critical and he is expected to recover eventually.

The protest on Wednesday drew close to 1,000 protestors to the embassy ahead of Saturday’s 70th anniversary of the end of Japan’s 1910-45 colonial rule over the Korean peninsula. Although Japan insists the issue was settled in the 1965 bilateral agreement that restored diplomatic ties between the two nations, which saw Tokyo make a total payment of $800 million in grants or loans to its former colony, South Korea says Japan has still not done enough to atone for the forced recruitment of South Korean women to work in Japanese military brothels as so-called “comfort women”.

The issue has strained relations between South Korea and Japan for years with South Korean President Park Geun-Hye saying there can be no meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe until Japan makes full amends.

Self-immolation in South Korea was common during the pro-democracy movement of the 1980s and early-90s, when a number of student activists set themselves on fire during public demonstrations. A 56-year-old disabled man died after setting himself on fire in a dispute with his landlord five months ago.

68 Year Old Grandma Confesses To Gruesome Murders In Secret Diary

A 68 year old serial-killing ‘Granny Ripper’ who was caught disposing one of her victims, confessed to 11 murders in a gruesome diary..Tamara Samsonova, 68, is thought to have beheaded and dismembered her victims in a reign of terror that lasted two decades.

The pensioner dubbed the ‘Granny Ripper’ entered details of her secret life in diaries which she kept in Russian, English and German, alongside black magic and astrological books.

She was arrested last week after being filmed by CCTV cameras near her home in St Petersburg removing the body of her latest victim in black plastic bag.

Now detectives suspect that the former hotel worker also ate some body parts she removed from the
people she killed, chopping off their heads, arms and legs.

In particular, Samsonova had a penchant for gauging out and eating lungs, it is claimed.

Sources in Russia’s powerful Investigative Committee – equivalent of the FBI – indicated internal organs, in particular lungs, were removed from the bodies of victims.

It is also suggested the self-confessed killer gave her final victim, Valentina Ulanova, 79, an overdose of sleeping pills before dismembering her body with a hacksaw while she was still alive.

She was detained after the headless body of Ulanova – for whom she was a carer – was found near a pond on Dimitrova Street in St Petersburg.Samsonova killed her after a quarrel over unwashed cups, she told police investigating the murder.

Senior investigator in St. Petersburg, Mikhail Timoshatov, said: ‘

Tamara Samsonova says that at first she made her friend [Ulanova] sleep – and then cut her into pieces.’

Police are now comparing her elaborate diary entries with known cases of unsolved murder cases where victims were dismembered, and body parts packed in bags strewn around the city.

A headless, armless and legless man’s body was found on the same street 12 years ago, and evidence found in her flat, including a business card for the victim, links her to the crime.

Caught on CCTV
Samsonova is also suspected of murdering her husband, who she reported missing in 2005. He was never found, dead or alive.

The ‘Granny Ripper’s’ diary excerpts include a chilling confession of murdering one of her former lodgers.

‘I killed my tenant Volodya, cut him to pieces in the bathroom with a knife, put the pieces of his body in plastic bags and threw them away in the different parts of Frunzensky district,’ she wrote.

Detectives in Russia are refusing to release details of her diary until the multiple murder investigation is completed.

Amazingly, given the gravity of the charges against her, in her latest court appearance Samsonova seemed more concerned that journalists were there to report her case – and that her neighbours in St Petersberg were going to find out what she is accused of.

After being remanded in custody, she told journalists: ‘I knew you would come… It’s such a disgrace for me, all the city will know.’

Later she blew a kiss to reporters. When judge Roman Chebotaryov asked her to address the court, she replied: ‘It’s stuffy here, can I go out?’

Two South African Men Plead Guilty To Rape & Murder Of 86 Year Old Nun

Two South African men charged with the rape and murder of a 86-year-old Austrian-born nun pleaded guilty on Tuesday, saying they had broken into the convent to steal food. Sister Gertrud Tiefenbacher, from the Sacred Heart Home Convent in the village of Ixopo, southwest of Durban, was murdered last month. In a statement read in court, Sibongiseni Phungula, 25, said he and his co-accused, Mondli Shozi, 26, had gone to the covent to look for food after a night of drinking.

They were interrupted by Tiefenbacher, who shouted at them, the News 24 agency reported from Pietermaritzburg High Court. Shozi said he then grabbed her, dragging her to her room and tied her up. “I then removed her panties and had sexual intercourse with her,” said Phungula, adding the elderly nun was “still moving” when he left her in her bed.

Tiefenbacher’s body was discovered the following day, with her hands tied with an electric typewriter cord and a wet towel over her face. “I wish I could undo what I have done,” Phungula said in his statement. The two men admitted to stealing a vacuum cleaner, groceries and a watch before fleeing. They said they had met earlier in a pub where they drank a bottle of brandy and another bottle of spirits before setting off to the convent.

The trial was attended by nuns from the convent. Tiefenbacher moved to South Africa 50 years ago to work for the Roman Catholic Church.

An argument which degenerated into a fight over whose choice would hold sway reportedly ensued between them. The incident, which threw the densely populated area into disarray, occurred at about 12noon inside the couple’s one room apartment at 81 Military zone junction.

One of the tenants who spoke on condition of anonymity told Vanguard that they did not witness how the suspect allegedly stabbed her husband.

But he explained that : “ We were all outside waiting to vote when Onyiyechi rushed out, shouting for help. Out of curiosity, we all ran inside, only to discover blood all over the ground, on entering their apartment.

”On closer observation, we noticed that the blood was from her husband chest region. We met him on the ground. Before we could rush him to the hospital, he gave up the ghost.

Perhaps, he would have survived the attack had Onyiyechi called for help early. From all indication, it was clear that she attempted to manage the situation immediately the incident occurred. It was when she discovered that the situation had overwhelmed her that she raised alarm.

”I do not know the name of her husband. We only know that of his wife, who we fondly call Onyiyechi. The irony of this matter is that she is not cantankerous.

”She has never beaten a little child, let alone to fight with any neighbor. Again on that day, we saw both of them together. They were seen sitting outside, one hour before the incident occurred. Policemen from Ejigbo later came to remove the corpse to the Isolo morgue”.

Oscar Pistorius Pronounced Not Guilty of “Premeditated Murder” by Judge

os

Oscar Pistorus has been declared not guilty of premeditated murder. The judge has ruled out all murder charges, but says he may still be guilty of culpable homicide (manslaughter).

Judge Thokozile Masipa said the prosecution had failed to prove the Olympic athlete killed his girlfriend deliberately in the toilet after a row, prompting tears from Mr Pistorius.

He cannot have foreseen killing whoever was behind the toilet door, she said.

She added he was an evasive witness but this did not mean he was guilty.

The South African Olympic sprinter denies murdering Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day last year, saying he thought there was an intruder.

Mr Pistorius, 27, has pleaded not guilty to all the charges he faces, including two counts of shooting a firearm in public and the illegal possession of ammunition.
