Ex-Abia governor mourns death of media aide, calls for investigation.

Former Abia State Governor, Senator Theodore Orji, has called for a thorough investigation into the alleged murder of his former media aide, Ben Onyechere, in Owerri, Imo State by yet to be identified gunmen.

A statement signed by the former governor in Enugu on Wednesday, described the alleged murder as despicable and unwarranted.

Orji urged the police to do all within its powers to fish out the perpetrators and prosecute them.

Orji said: “On behalf of my family, I send my heartfelt condolence to the family of Ben Onyechere, my former media adviser, who was gruesomely murdered on Sunday in Owerri, Imo State.

“You cannot imagine how broken-hearted the sad news of his demise has left me, especially the manner in which his promising life was exterminated. It is despicable and unimaginable.”

Orji described the deceased as a quintessential gentleman, a thorough bred professional with heart of gold, adding that, those qualities endeared the deceased to him.

He said: “I still cannot understand why someone will take such precious life in such manner.

“Even though the lives of the assailants cannot atone for his death, I urge the Inspector-General of Police and Imo State Police Commissioner to investigate and ensure that they are brought to book.”

NAN reports that Onyechere also worked as an aide to former Vice President, Chief Alex Ekwueme.

The deceased was said to have been kidnapped on Sunday at about 8pm at Maris Junction in Ikenegbu area of Owerri, where he had gone with his driver for shopping.

Onyechere’s lifeless body was, however, recovered the following morning a few streets away from Maris Junction.
