Why Wike’s CSO Was Removed – Police

The Chief Security Officer (CSO) to the Governor of Rivers State, DSP Promise Nwosu was removed because of his involvement in partisan politics, the police said.

The Force Spokesman, DCP Don Awunah, in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday while noting that officers are insulated from partisan politics added that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris has set up an investigative inquiry to ascertain the level of Nwosu’s open engagement in political activities, disrespect to senior officer and unethical practices.

According to the statement: “The Nigeria Police Force have observed the innuendos, distortion of facts and wild allegations peddled in the mass media following the redeployment of the Chief Security Officer (CSO) to the Governor of Rivers State, DSP Promise Nwosu, as a result of gross professional misconduct.

“It will be recalled that on 17th November, 2016 during peaceful demonstrations of an opposition party in the state, All Progressive Congress (APC), the Chief Security Officer to the governor, DSP Promise Nwosu was found among the protesting party faithfuls in a manner prejudicial to discipline and displaying conduct unexpected of an officer of his calibre and office.

“In the course of monitoring the public protest, an Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations in Rivers State observed the presence of the CSO among the protesting partisan crowd as illegal, unlawful and outside prescribed schedule of the duties of a CSO.

“The active presence of the CSO to the governor in a partisan crowd of an opposition party to the governor in a clandestine and suspicious manner was considered mischievous and detrimental to the security of the state and public order and also contrary to his oath of office which constitute an offence against discipline.

The statement further read: “The CSO to the governor, when challenged by a superior officer demonstrated brazen indiscipline and showed disrespect to the senior officer, exhibiting conduct that violates all known norms of the force.

“Accordingly, the CSO was officially queried for discreditable conduct, insubordination, engaging in partisan political activities, illegal duty and act unbecoming of a public officer.

“As a result of such gross misconduct and apparent partisanship, the IGP ordered the redeployment of the CSO pending further disciplinary action. To this end, the IGP has also constituted an investigative inquiry into the officer’s open engagement in political activities, disrespect to senior officers and unethical practices”.

The IGP while restating that the Police and police officers are insulated from partisan politics warned all police officers in any capacity to desist from acts that portray the force in a bad light and question the integrity of the personnel.

“Any police officer, especially CSOs, Aides-de-Camp (ADCs), and orderlies attached to political officer holders or senior government officials who engages in activities outside the official schedule will be removed and made to face severe disciplinary action”.

The police also stated that Governor Wike is free to choose who his CSO from the Command.

“The Governor as Chief Security Officer of the state is at liberty to select any officer of his choice from the strength of the command to serve as his CSO but under no circumstance should any officer abandon the security of his principal and legitimate duties to engage in direct partisan politics or conversely should any political office holder use police officers attached to them for political machinations”.

‘Sold Like Cows & Goats’, Read Shocking Insights Of India’s Slave Brides

The first time Muklesha was sold, she was just 12 years old. Her buyer was a man in his 70s.

Marriage and a baby quickly followed. But, three years later, the man died and Muklesha was again put up for sale.

This time, her buyer was a horrific abuser.

“He didn’t feed me. He’d take me to the fields and stuff my mouth with mud and then beat me,” she says.

Muklesha is one of thousands of India’s slave brides – girls and women sold into marriage, often destined for a lifetime of abuse and hardship, as this 101 East documentary reveals.

In India, sex-selective abortions and female infanticide, due to a preference for male babies, has created one of the most severe gender imbalances in the world.

Now, the shortage of women is generating a dangerous demand for brides among men desperate to marry, especially in states like Haryana, which has one of the country’s worst gender ratios.

Traffickers are stepping in to meet this demand, kidnapping women from other states and selling them to men in Haryana.

A survey of 10,000 households in this northern state found more than 9,000 married women had come from other states.

Al Jazeera discovered that some women living in villages in Haryana have been sold as many as three times.

The villagers call them “Paros”, a derogatory term implying they’ve been purchased.

Sanjida was trafficked to Haryana when she was just 10 years old. She says an older girl from a village near her family’s home in the north-eastern state of Assam drugged and kidnapped her.

“I was made to do field work, cut grass, feed cows, do all the work. I cried for a year. I was in captivity for four years,” she says.

She says she was then sold into marriage.

“I couldn’t run away or bring my life to an end. There was nobody whom I could ask for help,” she says.
But Sanjida was luckier than most other Indian women sold into marriage. She says her husband has always treated her well. Sanjida now works for an NGO helping other women.

“All people in Haryana are disrespectful towards women like us. Everybody says we have no self-respect … and that we are sold like cows and goats. We feel very bad when we hear all this because we are human beings and we belong to India, just like them,” she says.

Sanjida is now helping Muklesha, the girl first sold when she was 12, after she was rescued from her abusive husband.

You Are Acting Like Pharaoh, MASSOB To Buhari

The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, has replied President Muhammadu Buhari on his recent declaration that “anybody who wants to leave Nigeria is free,” saying that those who wish to play Pharaoh against the people of Biafra, will certainly experience the consequences.

MASSOB said: “The Federal Government is busy, chasing, witch-hunting and killing Biafrans and agitators, while the country is collapsing, and will soon go into extinction because of clueless and directionless leadership.”

MASSOB, in a statement entitled Buhari is mocking Biafrans, signed by its leader, Mr. Uchenna Madu, said: “We reiterate our earlier position that those who wish to play pharaoh against the people of Biafra, will certainly experience the consequences of the Egyptian Pharaoh.

“President Buhari’s statement that anyone, who cherished another country can leave Nigeria is not something to be cheerful about, celebrated and in any way heartwarming. MASSOB views it as part of Pharaoh’s subtle way of mocking the Hebrews-Biafra.

“The people of Biafra should not celebrate or rejoice over that cunning and mocking assertion. The time of God’s calamitous earthquake that will delete the name of the country from the world map, government and other functions is very fast approaching.

“MASSOB and other pro-Biafran groups will continue to remain non-violent and focused, while watching the calamitous earthquake that will befall the Nigeria state because of the hardening of President Buhari’s heart against Biafrans.

“We will continue to be loyal to Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu’s principles, vision and legacies; and continue to revive and refresh the consciousness of Ojukwuism in the minds of every Biafran.”

The governor said: “The Rivers State Government is fully in support of the Operation Crocodile Smile. I was fully briefed by the Brigade Commander and we associate ourselves with the programme because it will make the Niger Delta safer.

“One of the advantages of the programme is that hoodlums in the creeks are being uprooted for a safer Niger Delta. I support the programme insofar as it is done with the constitution “.

According to the governor, the Rivers State Government will sustain its support for security agencies to create the right atmosphere for democratic governance.

He said that the State Government has procured 6 New Armoured Personnel Carriers for the Police and in the process of concluding the acquisition of 10 gunboats for the Nigerian Navy.

The Army Chief said that the exercise seeks to provide the civil authorities with the right environment to carry out governance.

He said the exercise will ensure that the troops are professional with the required training to conduct operations within the law.

He said: “Our waters are generally porous. The Nigerian Army has amphibious capabilities in conjunction with the Nigerian Navy to carry out limited operations within the creeks”.
