Apparently it costs quite a pretty penny to live like royalty — $4.6 million to be exact. As the British palace recently revealed, that amount covers the yearly cost of the staff, travel, and official wardrobes for Prince William, Princess Kate, and Prince Harry, and is largely footed by Prince Charles himself.
The 66-year-old father of two — and grandfather to adorable George and Charlotte! — pays for his official life, thanks to a massive estate given to the heir to the throne for funding. That income comes to about $31.1 million and a portion of that is passed down to the younger royals as he sees fit.
“We can’t identify how much of it is allocated to their office,” the palace source told People, adding that they cannot break down specific costs, such as Kate’s wardrobe, as they have done in previous years.
But they can safely say that the $4.6 million did not account for the costs of refurbishments at Will and Kate’s country home, which was a gift from the Queen herself, or the couple’s personal staff. And while much of their major travel was covered by the countries they visited, it’s still safe to say the future king is definitely taking care of his sons and daughter-in-law.
