Another Suicide Bomber Gunned Down, Saturday Morning

 Nigerian security operatives have intercepted another suicide bomber who attempted to penetrate a Transit Camp of Internally Displaced People (IDPs) along Muna Garage.

Suspecting ulterior motive of the suicide bomber because of his strange behaviour, the security operatives attempted to accost him.

However, in his attempt to detonate the explosive device, he was gunned down by the security.

PRNigeria gathered that the Transit camp is used to check and screen potential displaced people before being allowed into any of the IDP Camps in Maiduguri and others in Borno State.

The Spokesperson of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the North-East, Mr. Ibrahim Abdulkadir confirmed that the mangled body of the suicide bomber had been evacuated.

How Army Averted Suicide Bombings In Borno, Gunned Down Suspected Female Bombers

The Nigerian Army on Friday announced that its troops shot dead two suspected female suicide bombers in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, averting what could have been another tragedy in the troubled city.

The spokesperson for the Army, Sani Usman, said in a statement that the attackers were halted by troops and men of the Civilian JTF as they made their way into the city before dawn.

Mr. Usman, a colonel, said, “The ever alert and vigilant troops of 7 Division Garrison based in Maiduguri, in conjunction with Civilian JTF averted yet another suicide attack on the innocent citizens in Borno State today.

“The troops intercepted two female suicide bombers at about 1.20am this morning, almost 100 metres south of Umurari village, outskirts of Maiduguri.

“However, one of the suicide bombers on sighting own troops detonated her explosive device, killing herself instantly, while the second bomber in an attempt to escape was gunned down by one of the Garrison snipers.

“The combined team of Nigeria Police and Nigerian Army’s Explosive Ordinance Device team safely detonated the unexploded Improvised Explosive Devices strapped on the gunned down suicide bomber.

“It is important to state that there was no casualty beyond the two suicide bombers. Presently, the troops and the Civilian JTF deployed in the village are now combing the general area to forestall further breach of security.

“The situation in the area is calm and law abiding citizens are going about their normal activities without fear.”

5 Suspected Robbers Gunned Down In Shootout With Police In Lagos

The Police in Lagos on Wednesday killed five suspected armed robbers and arrested one with bullets wounds. Police sources told newsmen in Ikeja that the suspects had engaged policemen from Elemoro Division, Ajah in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area in a shootout where they were killed.

He said that five of them were killed on the spot and one injured by bullets was arrested. “The police in Elemoro got information that the suspects were operating at Abule Parapo, opposite Awoyaya in Elemoro area of Ajah around 2 a.m.

“The suspects engaged the police in a shootout as soon as they saw them. Two locally made double barrel shot guns, one cutlass and iron cutter was recovered from them. “The gang had been terrorising residents of Ajah, robbing and raping women,’’ the source said.

The corpses of the dead and the injured suspects were brought to the Lagos State Police Command headquarters, Ikeja at about 12.15 p.m. The operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) have taken over the case file from the Divisional Police Officer at Elemoro, SP Sani Limawa for further investigation.

When contacted, the command’s spokesman, DSP Joseph Offor, said he had yet to get the details from the division as at press time.
