Saudi Dumps Islamic Calendar For Gregorian Calendar Due To Economic Crisis

Oil rich gulf country, Saudi Arabia, has dropped the Islamic Lunar calendar for the Gregorian Calender  for payment of salaries due to the economic crisis it is facing as a result of the fall in oil price.

The Gregorian Calender has at least 11 more salary days than the Islamic Lunar calendar. This will save the Kingdom more money in terms of payment of salaries, according to reports.

 Saudi Arabia, which houses two hoilest Muslim sites, had earlier sacked some 10,000 deputy Imams in efforts to cut costs for the country to be able to survive its economic crisis.

 Oil dependent countries like Nigeria, Venezuela and Saudi Arabia have been thrown into economic crises as a result of fall in oil price.

Code Of Conduct Bureau Dumps N8bn Office Hqtrs Project

After spending over N1billion, being part payment for the construction of office complex headquarters, the Code of Conduct Bureau has abandoned the project,

The Bureau, under the chairmanship of Sam Saba had opted to purchase a completed 9-storey building located in the central business district of Abuja just as the abandoned one is also located within the CBD of the city.

The abandoned project which dates back to 2008 was initially put at over N3billion before it was reviewed by the federal executive council in October 2012 to over N8 billion with more facilities .

It has now been abandoned by the Bureau, a development that has raised a lot of eyebrows.

The project was to be executed within 38 months.

The authority further gathered that although the Bureau had problems enlisting the project in the budget especially that of 2015, it curiously got the purchase of office building complex in the 2016.

The National Assembly appropriated the sum of four billion, four hundred and thirty million, one thousand one hundred and seventy nine Naira only(N4,430,001,179).

A request for guideline on purchase of office building made by the Bureau to the Director General, Bureau of Public Procurement, CCB told BPP  that the amount has been appropriated for it in the 2016 budget for the project and sought professional advice on the steps to take.

It said ‘’In view of the above, I am to seek your professional advice and guidance as to the steps to take to fastrack the procurement process’’.

Reacting to our inquiry on the issue, the Deputy Director, Press and Protocol unit of the Bureau,Muhammad Idris said he was not at the Bureau when the 2016 budget was prepared. He however, admitted that the Bureau have appropriation to purchase a completed complex for office headquarters. Idris however, quickly pointed out that it was not a waste as the government of the day is very frugal.

APC Dumps Audu’s Running Mate, To Conduct Fresh Primaries

The All Progressives Congress, APC, on Tuesday announced that it would conduct fresh primaries to determine a replacement for its late candidate, Abubakar Audu, in the inconclusive governorship election in Kogi State.

Addressing journalists at the party’s national Secretariat in Abuja, the national chairman of the party, John Odigie-Oyegun, said delegates to the last primaries – which saw the emergence of the late candidate – would determine who becomes the candidate.

On the fate of Mr. Audu’s running-mate, James Faleke, the APC national chairman said it would be decided after conducting fresh primary election.

“As a party, we are going to proceed with process of organising primaries to provide a substitute candidate for the late Abubakar Audu,” the party chairman declared.

Air Force Strikes Terrorists’ Vehicle Workshops, Fuel, Ammunition Dumps In Sambisa

The Nigerian Air Force says its alpha jets have successfully carried out air strikes and destroyed the Boko Haram’s vehicle workshops, fuel and ammunition dumps all within the Sambisa forest.

According to the Director, Air Force Public Relations and Information, Commodore Dele Alonge, this is part of a renewed drive to further degrade the Boko Haram terrorists’ assets.

He said that the effort was as a result of a painstaking Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) efforts by the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and ATR-42 platforms.

According to him, the air strikes on the insurgents would pave the way for the final onslaught by the land forces to meet President Muhammadu Buhari’s directives to bring insurgency in the north-east to an end by December.

Ex-Speaker Dumps APC, Rejoins PDP

Former Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly and All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant, Hon. Femi Bamisile , has made tremendous move to rejoin the Peoples Democratic Party.

As part of the efforts to seal the deal, Bamisile met with Governor Ayodele Fayose on Sunday at a popular hotel located along Ado-Iworoko road and owned by a prominent trado-medical practitioner, where they held a one hour closed door meeting.

Fayose, who drove himself  into the hotel in a metallic coloured  Kia Optima , wore a white ‘Jalamia’ and he immediately went straight to a section of the hotel , where the meeting was held.

Four prominent traditional rulers also attended the meeting that took many of the hotel customers, who were familiar with the politics of the State,  by surprise.

Jay Z’s Company CEO Dumps Tidal

The interim CEO of Jay Z’s streaming service, Tidal, has left the company.

A representative for Tidal said Tuesday that Peter Tonstad “is no longer with the company.” Tonstad joined Tidal in April, replacing then-CEO Andy Chen. Tonstad was previously the CEO of Aspiro Group, parent company of Tidal.

Tidal has struggled to compete with other streaming services since its launch at the end of March. Tidal “will be transitioning to a permanent CEO as part of our strategic plan to create a leading platform,” the statement read.

A business controlled by Jay Z bought Tidal for $56 million in mid-March. The music and video service is co-owned by Jay Z, Beyonce, Jason Aldean, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, Madonna and others.

Ex-Minister Dumps PDP On “Personal Reasons”

A former minister of commerce, Mustafa Bello, has announced his intention to withdraw his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party.

In a letter to the chairman of the PDP Central Ward, Kontagora local government area of Niger state, Bello said he was withdrawing his membership of the party“on purely personal reasons”.

According to Premium Times, copies of the letter dated April 12 with reference number MB/12042015@1644 was also sent to the PDP chairman in Kontagora LGA and the chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Niger State Chapter.

The letter, entitled “Notice of intent to relinquish my party membership from the PDP with immediate effect,” reads: “I write to place you on notice that I am relinquishing my party membership of the PDP with immediate effect on purely personal reasons.

“I thank you for the opportunity to associate with you over the last 16 years. Yours sincerely.”

Senate Presidency: Tinubu Dumps Akume

There are strong indications that the former Lagos State governor and national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinibu may have withdrawn his support for George Akume to become the new Senate President. Tinubu’s decision to dump Akume follows pressure from the Senators that he should allow them elect their own Senate President. The Senators had reportedly told Tinubu that any attempt to impose Akume on them will be rejected.

The decision it was learnt did not go down well with Tinubu considering the fact that he was also pushing for the House of Representatives Minority leader, Femi Gbajabiamila from the South West for the Speakership position.

Senator Dumps Jonathan For Buhari

The senator representing Kogi Cental in the Senate, Nurudeen Abatemi-Usman has dumped President Goodluck Jonathan for the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammadu Buhari.

He said he has now realized that Buhari would be a better president that Jonathan. He noted that Buhari represents the change that Nigerians are asking for.

Abatemi-Usman recently dumped the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) on whose platform he is contesting Saturday’s election.

PDP Members Dump Jonathan, Vow Loyalty To Buhari in Secret

There are indications that some supporters of the PDP in Kaduna State may not cast their votes for President Goodluck Jonathan in the March 28 presidential election.

The members have commenced secret discussion with APC chieftains in the state with a promise to deliver their votes to Buhari in the presidential election.

In return, they are asking that the APC supports and vote for the PDP guber candidate,Gov. Jonathan Dumps Oritsejafor for Oyedepo, Enenche & Others
