Muslim Woman Donates Rice To Over 50 Christian Widows For Christmas

One Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani had donated some bags of rice and other food stuff to over 50 Christian widows and their families to celebrate the forthcoming Christmas.

Tijjani, a peace ambassador, made the donation to the widows at the Christ Evangelical Church Ministry in Sabon Tasha, Kaduna.

She said it was part of her efforts to strengthen peaceful co-existence among different faith-based organizations in the country and reduce the hardship most widows face.

She said that she was always happy to render assistance to widows and elderly persons with their children at every time.

Tijjani advised others with generous minds to emulate her by helping the poor and other needy persons at a season like this.

The peace ambassador said that Christmas provides an opportunity for Muslims to demonstrate to their Christian neighbours that Islam is a religion of peace and love.

Tijjani also commended Pastor Yohanna Buru, the General Overseer of Christ Evangelical Church Ministry, for always distributing foods and drinks to IDPs, the destitute and inmates during   Ramadan in past years.

He was always serving cooked foods and drinks to widows and orphans during sallah celebration also, Tijjani said.

She said that Buru’s attitude was what impressed her to start rendering assistance to Christian widows as the Yuletide approaches.

Tijjani advised the Federal Government to create institutes of comparative studies which, according to her, can proffer solutions to ethno-religious crises in the country.

According to her, such an institute will also help ethnic groups to better understand themselves, promote religious tolerance and how they can live with one another in peace, she said.

Also, Pastor Yohanna Buru responding on behalf of his church members commended Tijjani for the donation.

He prayed God to reward her abundantly for her kind gesture to the widows in this period.

Norway Donates N3.6bn To Victims Of Boko Haram

Norway has donated $11.5m approximately N3.6bn to improve basic education, support girls and women who have been victims of sexual violence by Boko Haram in conflict-affected northeast states.

The United Nation’s Children Fund Chief of Communication, Ms Doune Porter, in a statement on Saturday said that the benefiting states are; Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and Gombe.

She said that the fund was part of the Safe Schools Initiative in the northern Nigeria.

She said that in 2013, Norway was a pioneer member of the Safe Schools Initiative Committee established in response to Boko Haram attacks on schools in the areas.

Porter said that UNICEF, however, noted that there was an urgent need to provide a safe learning environment for children in northeast.

She said that through the support of UNICEF about 100,000 children were currently accessing education through Temporary Learning Spaces and schools in northeast Nigeria.

“This fund would further boost access to education for an additional half a million boys and girls in internally displaced persons’ camps, host communities and areas of Borno that have become accessible to humanitarian assistance.’’

Porter quoted Jens-Petter Kjemprud, Norwegian Ambassador to Nigeria in the statement as saying that: “We believe in the importance of doing what we can to break the cycle of violence in northeast Nigeria.

“This funding will provide more children complete basic education in a good learning environment and will provide much-needed counselling for girls who have suffered unimaginable trauma in the hands of Boko Haram,” Kjemprud said.

Boko Haram: US Donates Fresh $92m To Displaced Persons

The United States has announced a donation of nearly $92m as additional humanitarian assistance to people affected by the Boko Haram insurgency and severe food insecurity in the North-East and the Lake Chad Basin region.

With this donation, the US said it had provided more than $291m in humanitarian assistance in the 2016 fiscal year to people affected by Boko Haram-related conflicts.

The US continued to be the single largest humanitarian donor to the region, a statement on Wednesday in Abuja from the Information Office of the US Embassy stated.

“This new funding to United Nations and Non-Governmental Organisation partners will help tens of thousands of people receive critically needed humanitarian assistance, including food, water, shelter, and services to address acute hygiene, protection and nutritional needs,” the statement added.

The statement hinted that the insurgency had left more than 6.4m people in need of emergency food assistance and displaced 2.6m people in Niger, Nigeria, Cameroon and Chad.

It said that the United Nations estimated an additional $1bn was needed to meet the humanitarian needs of people in 2017.

The US called on other donors to contribute additional humanitarian assistance for the millions of people in the region whose lives had been affected by Boko Haram.

Lawmaker Donates N5m Relief Materials To Flood Victims In Sokoto

A member of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Isa Kalanjeni, on Monday donated assorted relief materials worth N5 million to flood victims in Bachaka, Gudu Local Government of Sokoto State.

Presenting the items, at Bachaka, Kalanjeni, who represents Gudu/Tangaza Federal Constituency, said the gesture was aimed at alleviating the suffering of the victims.

Kalanjeni said, ”My visit here is to personally commiserate with you in your most trying times.

“My donation is not in any way a compensation for your huge losses, as only God who destines the disaster is capable of doing that.

”You should, however, regard the unfortunate disaster as an inevitable act of God.”

The lawmaker said he had reported the incident to the House of Representatives with a view to getting relief for the victims.

He said, ”I have also written to the National Emergency Management Agency for its prompt action.’’

The District Head of Bachaka, Alhaji Aminu Abdulahi, commended the lawmaker for the gesture and promised judicious distribution of the items to the victims.

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Tangaza Local Government, Alhaji Madugu Ruwa-Wuri, called for prayers to prevent re-occurrence of the incident.

Ibrahim Gatari and Sambo Abdullahi, two of the beneficiaries, also commended the donor for his intervention and promised to make the proper use of the materials.

The items included 300 bags of cement, 30 bundles of roofing sheet, rubber mats, plastic buckets and kettles, among others.

Sardauna Foundation Donates N20m To Borno IDPs

The Late Sir Ahmadu Bello Foundation, popularly known as the Sarduana Foundation, has donated N20 million to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Borno State through Governor Kashim Shettima yesterday in Maiduguri.

Presenting the donation at the Government House Council Chambers to Governor Shettima, the chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT ) of the foundation, who is also the former Niger State Governor and former chairman, Northern State Governors Forum, Engr Babangida Aliyu, said the foundation found it very vital to make its contribution in the form of financial support  to the IDPs by joining other individuals and organisations both at home and abroad, in supporting the traumatised and displaced people.

He also commended the federal and state governments as well as individuals and organisations that have supported the state government in its efforts towards managing and controlling the IDPs and resettlement camps.

“The task is not a simple one and government alone cannot provide all the needs of the IDPs as well as reconstruction of the communities destroyed.

“I urge individuals and organisations to support the IDPs and state government to overcome the predicament. I commend Aliko Dangote Foundation and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for their support to the IDPs and Borno State Government,” Aliyu said.

Responding, Governor Kashim Shettima thanked the Sarduana Foundation leaders for their visit as well as their donation.

He assured them that the donation would be judiciously used for the purpose it is meant for while recalling the virtues of late Sir Ahmadu Bello who left behind a legacy worthy of emulation by the northern leaders.

Aisha Buhari Donates Relief Materials To Agatu Crisis’ Victims

Wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, yesterday donated relief materials to persons displaced in the Agatu crisis, camped at the NOGOA Secondary School Makurdi.

Mrs. Buhari who was represented by the wife of the Vice President, Mrs. Dolapo Osibanjo, said her visit to the state was also to enable her obtain first hand information on crisis. She condoled with victims of the crisis in Agatu and other crisis ridden areas of the state promising that they would not stand alone in their moment of grief.

Earlier, Governor Samuel Ortom insisted that Benue State was under the siege of marauding Fulani herdsmen who invaded the state from outside the country and urged the federal government to intervene to stem the killings. According to the Governor, “the devastation and destruction in Benue state is more than what happened in the North East, we are under siege and those behind this are not the normal Fulanis who have lived with us over the years, they are from outside. Given our strategic position as the food basket of the nation, if the Federal Government does not stand up to stop the crisis, there will be shortage of food in the country next year.”

UK Donates £6.7m To Support Boko Haram Victims

The British government has donated the sum of 6.7 million Pounds in support of humanitarian assistance for the 2.2 million victims that were displaced by the Boko Haram insurgents in northeast Nigeria.

The donation is coming on the heels of the visit of the British Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Baroness Anelay, who arrived Nigeria on Tuesday.

The Press and Public Affairs Officer of the British High Commission in Nigeria, Mr Joseph Abuku, said in a statement that the Minister would hold high level discussions with government officials on how to ensure the protection of civilians in the fight against the Boko Haram terrorists.

He added that Anelay, who is also the UK Prime Minister’s Special Representative for Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict (PSVI), would meet with various civil society activists and NGOs to discuss the importance of preventing sexual violence in such conflicts.

According to Abuku, “The Minister will discuss additional humanitarian support that the UK is providing in helping those affected by the fight against Boko Haram.

“This includes £6.7 million to enable the government of Nigeria, as well as Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), UN agencies and the Red Cross to deliver food assistance, education, sanitation and safe water, shelter material (as well as) other basic necessities.”

US Donates 24 Armoured Personel Carriers To Nigeria

As part of its effort at supporting the fight against Boko Haram, the United States’ Government donated 24 Mine-Resistant, Armour-Protected (MRAP) Vehicles to Nigeria.

The U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr James Entwistle, presented the vehicles to Nigerian Government at the 9 Brigade Parade Ground in Ikeja, Lagos.

Represented by the U.S. Defense Attache, Col. Patrick Doyle, Entwistle said the gesture was part of his government’s continued support for Nigeria in the fight against insurgency.

“The sacrifices that have been made by Nigeria to help the Nigerian people and the West African countries in the fight against Boko Haram is commendable.

“I believe that the U.S. commitment to Nigeria is second to none.

“We will continue to support the Nigerian Government in its fight against Boko Haram.

“We are, therefore, presenting these 24 vehicles to the Nigerian Army to aid them in their assignments,’’ he said.

Entwistle said that his government was donating the vehicles through its Excess Defense Articles Programme, adding that the Nigerian Government arranged for the transportation of the vehicles to Lagos from the U.S.

The Envoy also said that it would be the responsibility of Nigeria to repair some of the vehicles that were not in good condition.

Entwistle said that the U.S. government was currently downsizing its troops, and had decided to donate some of its MRAPs to his partner countries like Nigeria.

She may have given birth less than a week ago but that hasn’t stopped Kim Kardashian from getting stuck in with a new project.

Hours after bringing baby Saint West home from the hospital, Kim took to her Twitter page to reveal that being up late breastfeeding had opened her eyes to a whole new charity initiative

She wrote: “I’m up breastfeeding & watching this show Dish Nation. I heard the cutest story of a girl who is trying to find 1000 pairs of shoes to donate to this charity Soles For Souls!

“They helped her during Hurricane Katrina. I think I know the designer of Shoe of the Year Award!

“Kanye and I would love to donate those 1000 shoes to Soles For Souls.I’ve been looking online to find this little girl so we can let her know the shoes are on their way….but can’t seem to find her.

“So whoever you are ….these shoes are for you! We will contact Soles For Souls! You reached your goal, so proud of you!!! xoxox [sic]”

She later added: “Can u help me find the girl who is trying 2 get 1000 pairs of shoes by Christmas @DishNation @Soles4Souls Kanye & I would love to donate! [sic]”

So far it looks as though her mission to find the little girl has been unsuccessful, but with the power of the internet we have every faith that Kim will find her somehow.

Woman Buys Entire Toy Store, Donates Toys To Homeless Children

New York City philanthropist Carol Suchman, who recently purchased an entire toy store’s worth of toys as holiday gifts for homeless children in the city. Suchman donates toys regularly, but this year on a much grander scale after noticing a shuttered toy store advertised as for rent in her neighborhood— a toy store still full of toys. She told NY1 she contacted the owner and “negotiated” a deal to buy all the contents in bulk (adding that the owner was “thrilled” with her offer) which she then passed along to NYC’s Department of Homeless Services.

 A DHS spokesperson said that they frequently benefit from “generous sponsors” and “toy drives” regularly, but “this is the first time anybody ever bought out an entire store and donated to the children of shelters.” While telling TODAY.com that she’s thrilled by the positive response to her generosity — the waitress in her local coffee shop gave her a kiss, even — Suchman added simply that “everyone can use a gift around the holidays.”

Lagos Donates N150m To IDPs In Borno, Adamawa, Yobe

The Lagos State Government has donated N50 million each to Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states to assist the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) there.

Lagos State governor, Akinwumi Ambode, presented the donation yesterday during the Council of State meeting which was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ambode described Boko Haram insurgency and its devastating activities as a single challenge facing the entire nation.

According to the governor, although the insurgency is basically limited to the north-eastern part of Nigeria, the effect is felt everywhere across the states of the federation.

He said the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal had at the just-concluded National Economic Summit, presented a graphic and heart-rending report of the extent of damage and social trauma caused by Boko Haram in the north-east.

He commended Buhari for his administration’s renewed commitment to bringing insurgency to a logical conclusion by December; and the security agencies for their gallantry, courage and resolve to achieve the president’s directive and wish of Nigerians.

Borno State Governor, Kassim Shettima thanked the government and the people of Lagos State for the gesture.

Switzerland Donates $8m To Support All Boko Haram Victims

The government of Switzerland has donated the sum of $8 million (N1.6 billion) to Nigeria and neighbouring countries in the Lake Chad in support of all Boko Haram victims in the North-East sub-region of the country.

The donation was made yesterday when the Charge’d’ Affaires of Swiss Embassy, Daniel Cavegn, paid an official visit to Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State at the Musa Usman Secretariat Complex, Maiduguri.

He said the visit of the Swiss Embassy to the state was to show solidarity with the people and government of Borno State as they are in a difficult situation caused by Boko Haram conflict.

FBI Donates Forensic Equipment To EFCC

The United State’s Federal Bureau of Investigation donated a forensic equipment to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, a gesture aimed at enhancing the collaboration between the agencies in the fight against financial and economic crimes in Nigeria.

The equipment, Forensic Recovery of Evidence Device, F.R.E.D was presented to the Head of Operations, Lagos Zonal office, EFCC, Iliyasu Kwarbai, by the United State acting Consul General, Dehab Ghereab.

Ms. Ghereab said the equipment will enhance the commission’s effort in fighting cyber crime and standardize its operations.

“As we engage in these practices, we needed our counterparts, so the FBI office made an assessment of the prevailing cases of cyber-based crimes which are not unique to Nigeria,” Ms. Ghereab said.

Aisha Buhari Donates To Expectant Mothers In Calabar

The President’s wife, Hajia Aisha Buhari, at the weekend donated nutritional supplement, the Frisomum Gold brand, to about 3,000 expectant and nursing mothers in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

Hajia Buhari said the supplement, which is also an alternative to breast milk, would ensure nourishment for babies.

The President’s wife, who was represented by Mrs Mary Ekpere, said beneficiaries were drawn randomly devoid of any political undertone.

She said: “What we have is for over 3,000 women. We left it open so that those who could make it here would benefit.

“I am impressed and happy that just by the snap of the fingers we were able to gather a good number of expectant mothers and children. The essence of this is to educate mothers about what is healthy for their children. The children are the future. So, they should be nourished and brought up well. This is a little token for the children.”

My name is Nicole Benson. I am 9 years old. The name of my school is Greensprings School lekki campus and I am in year 4 peters. I want to be a doctor when I grow up so that I can take care of people who are sick and dying because they take care of me when I am sick.
