Man commits suicide after third deportation from the US

With just a plastic bag of belongings in his hand, a Mexican man who was deported from the United States Tuesday promptly killed himself, jumping off a bridge in view of the US border.

Sinaloa state native Guadalupe Olivas Valencia, 44, threw himself to his death, authorities said. He had jumped 30 meters (100 feet).

Tanzanian singer beaten to death by husband

A female Tanzanian artiste, Kijakazi Pazi Shaban,  died last week after she was allegedly battered by her husband.

The artist who was once a member of a music group called Kidedea and known by her stage name Zamzam was said to have died at her home in Musoma.

Her husband, a police officer, Hamad Ally took Zamzam’s body to a morgue in Temeke, Dar es Salaam after she succumbed to her injuries.

According to Edaily of Kenya, a source told the Tazanian newspaper, Amani, that Zamzam had in the past sent gory photos of her deformed, wounded face to friends, saying she had been cruelly beaten by her husband – and that if anything would happen to her, then her her husband should be held accountable.

He said, “Zamzam’s family asked the husband to allow them see their relative’s body before he could bury her in Kilimanjaro, of which he agreed.

“Postmortem performed at a Temeke hospital on Zamzam’s body revealed that the singer succumbed to her injuries following a beating.

Zamzam’s husband, Hamad Ally, was arrested and is being held at Chang’ombe police station as investigations continue.

Taraba Killings: Death Toll Hits 42

The death toll in weekend’s Tiv farmers’ killings in Taraba State has risen to 42, it was learnt yesterday.
The hacking to death of the farmers by suspected Fulani militia in Gassol Local Government Area has spilled to many Tiv villages, in spite of police and military presence in the area.
The meeting by Commissioner of Police Yunas Babas, State President of Tiv Cultural and Social Association (TCSA) Goodman Dahida, President of Fulani’s Miyati-Alla, the Lamdo Gassol and security agencies to broker peace was fruitless
Police, soldiers, Dahida and the Senior Special Assistant to Taraba State Governor, Hon. Jerry Tyolanga, confirmed the rise in death toll.
Tiv homes were set ablaze, with smokes still billowing when The Nation visited the troubled area yesterday afternoon.
Six persons were gunned down in Sabon Gari; 16 were slain in other villages. Among them were three women, eye-witnesses said.
Four trucks conveyed bodies, which were killed. The bodies recovered from the “bush villages”. They were being taken to neighbouring Benue State.
There was mass exodus of Tiv from Dan-Anacha –fleeing Taraba to Benue State where a bulk of their ethnic group resides.
The displaced persons looked frustrated, most of them carrying heavy loads, children and domesticated animals but without transportation fares. Some were loudly crying and wailing over the loss of their loved ones.
The renewed attack and killings of Tiv farmers began on Saturday in Dan-Anacha, whose name was recently changed to Kwararafa, as the state was busy at a “Peace Concert” in a stadium in Jalingo –the state capital – organised by Governor Darius Ishaku.
Police spokesman David Mishal, who confirmed the killings, was still being expected to brief the press on the details yesterday.
He described the incident as “undercover attacks where you invade someone’s home and attack him when there is no war going on”.
Governor Darius Ishaku is seen by the Tiv in Taraba as a peace maker. They held a meeting in Jalingo yesterday on the killings, which are raising national concerns.
The Tiv community alleged that yesterday’s killings followed a meeting between the Lamdo Gassol and the Fulani militias. “The meeting started by midnight and lasted till 4:00am when the militias began to invade Tiv homes,” one of the displaced farmers, who is injured, said.

Soldiers Torture Adamawa Man To Death For Stealing Phone

The police in Adamawa State have launched a manhunt for some soldiers, who allegedly tortured a man, Umar Abdulaziz, to death for stealing a phone in the Ganaye Local Government area of the state.

Abdulaziz was accused by a female neighbour, identified only as Fatima, on Monday of stealing her mobile phone.

The woman, who reportedly befriended a soldier, was said to have gone to report the alleged theft to her lover.

It was gathered that the soldier, whose name had yet to be ascertained, came back with three other colleagues and dragged Abdulaziz away from the house.

The victim was reportedly taken to a corner of the compound, where the soldiers battered him, until he went into a coma.

The matter was said to have been reported at the Area F Police Station, after which policemen and neighbours came to rush the victim to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

A witness, who identified himself only as Abass, said Fatima also told her soldier lover that Abdulaziz beat her up in the house.

He said, “The lady lived on the next street to mine. Our house is around the barracks in Ganaye. She had a disagreement with Abdulaziz and the next thing was for her to call her soldier lover to deal with the victim.

“She accused the man of stealing her mobile phone. She also said the man beat her up and told her lover to deliver her from his grasp. When the lover came, there were four soldiers in all. They dragged Abdulaziz out of the house and off to an unknown location.

“They did not even ask what happened. They used knives to injure Abdulaziz. The victim collapsed, the police were invited and they came to the house. I am not sure whether they arrested any of the soldiers.”

He expressed dismay over the development, saying, “It is wrong for soldiers to harass civilians and even to the point of death. The military and police authorities must investigate this matter and bring the soldiers to book.”

Reps Summon NYSC Director General Over Death Of Corps Members

The House or Representatives on Tuesday summoned the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Brig. General Sule Zakari Kazaure, to appear before its ad-hoc committee investigating  the death of three corps members at the NYSC orientation camps.

Majority leader of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, while contributing the a motion sponsored by the member representing Boluwaduro/Ifedayo/Illa federal constituency of the state of Osun, Olufemi Fakeye, suggested that the NYSC management should liaise with the 36 state governments to construct permanent orientation camps in the states with a fully equipped medical centre.

Gbajabiamila also stated that all youths Corps members should be enrolled under a health insurance scheme for the one year period of NYSC.

He stated that expenses towards the above improvement to the NYSC scheme should be captured in the 2017 budget.

Fakeye in his motion titled ‘Unfortunate and Avoidable Death of late Miss. Ifedolapo Racheal Oledepo, a Corps meber at the Kano state Orientation Camp,’  noted that the demise of the 26 years old first class graduate of Aviation and Transport Management of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology was avoidable.

He stated that the deceased was sick a few days after she reported to the Orientation Camp and promptly reported the condition to camp authorities.

He added that the authorities initially thought she feigned the sickness in order to dodge the routine strenuous exercises which is part of cap activities.

He stated further that although the deceased was eventually admitted to the camp clinic under the supervision of NYSC doctor supported by NYSC nurses, the camp clinic may not be adequate.

“The camp clinic may not have been adequately equipped, as the late Ifedayo was reportedly give some “Placebo” and later injected with some substance, following which a lot of rashes manifested all over her body and her tongue became twisted.

He however suggested that Corps members should be allowed to have adequate rest at the orientation camps and the rigours of camp exercise be relapsed.

Two ‘corpers’ die at NYSC camps two days apart.

Tributes to the deceased corps member, Miss Ifedolapo Amoke Oladepo, who died in Kano NYSC orientation camp on November 29, flow like rivers of water.

According to one Sen Ajibolu Marcarony Yusuff, who appears to be a relation of the deceased, Ifedolapo called home five hours to her death and told her older sister, Mrs. Oyeyode Abimbola (a nurse) to start coming to her Kano orientation camp because, as alleged, the NYSC doctors were not giving enough care.

Yusuff said the late 26-year-old corps member who graduated with a First Class degree in Transport Management from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho, was given injection at the orientation camp’s clinic, but that she called home to say that she had reacted to the injection, as she noticed visible rashes all over her body.
Later, Yusuff claimed, Ifedolapo called home to complain of tongue-twisting, and was reportedly given another injection.

Yusuff continued, “When a male doctor agreed to speak with her sister (Oyeyode Abimbola), he explained that Ifedolapo was having anaphylaxis (acute allergic reaction) and that they intended to place her under observation for an hour before transferring her to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.”

Yusuff claimed that it took about five hours before the camp management transferred Ifedolapo to General Hospital, Gwazo, instead of the AKTH as promised.

She allegedly became incommunicado, as she could no longer be reached on phone.

Thirteen hours later, the family allegedly received a call from the Kano State NYSC camp officials informing them of her death.

In reaction to the issue, the Head of the NYSC Press and Public Relations in Abuja, Mrs. Bosede

Aderibigbe, said that Ifedolapo was sick when she arrived the Kano orientation camp, and that she did not die of stress as her relations and friends thought.

In the same vein, another First Class graduate of Petroleum Engineering from the University of Uyo, Mr. Ukeme Monday, has died in Zamfara State orientation camp.

He reportedly died on Thursday, December 1, of yet-to-be-ascertained causes.

A classmate of his, one Mr. Patrick Immo, noted that Monday was a committed Christian worker in his local assembly, the Power City International.

Immo said the two of them had shopped together a few days to the orientation camp, and that they departed Uyo for their respective orientation camps on November 23.

“It was thus a rude shock to me when, on December 1, I heard that Monday had died,” Immo narrated.

In addition to his First Class certificate, friends said Monday also won four scholarships and other top academic prizes as a student.

Tragic Tale Of How Corper Ifedolapo Died In Kano NYSC Orientation Camp Clinic

It was a tale of tears, agony and regrets on Thursday in Osogbo the Osun state capital, as a National Youth Service Corps member, Ifedolapo Oladepo was buried.

Like many thousands of young graduates mobilised for the 2016 Batch ‘C’ service year, 26-year-old Ifedolapo Oladepo, a first class Transport Management graduate of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho had said her goodbye to her family members, set for Kano, hoping to see her dreams fulfilled.

However, exactly a week after, it was her corpse that was brought to her family after she was said to have died following complications arising from an ailment few days into the NYSC orientation programme in Kano.

Unsurprisingly, her death has raised suspicion from her family members who now claim Ifedolapo could have been saved if she had been given the necessary attention by the NYSC authorities at the Orientation Camp in Kano.

Said to be in proper health before leaving for the Orientation Camp, the death of Ifedolapo has led to several questions regarding the state of health facilities at NYSC orientation camps across the country.

The family identified particularly lack of qualified medical personnel and wrong medications contributed to the death of the NYSC corps member.

Her elder sister, Oyeyode Abimbola, speaking with Channels Television, gave her account of what transpired between her and her sister before her death:

“She called me five hours to her death and told me to start coming as the NYSC doctors are not doing anything for her. They thought she was pretending in order not to go for parade, so they did not attend to her.

She noticed a lot of rashes on her body after injection, family says

“When she started calling people from home, they eventually gave her an injection (and) immediately after the injection, she called me again that she noticed a lot of rashes on her body that I should speak with the doctor who refused to talk to me.

“She called five minutes later and told me her tongue was twisting, then they sent all her friends out after seeing all the reaction on her body after giving her the unknown injection,” she said amidst tears.

“She said we should get a flight and I called immediately but they told me Abuja flight is Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

“I told her to tell anybody in the clinic that I am a nurse and they should allow me to speak to them. Later a male nurse took the phone from her and told me she was having anaphylactic reaction and they will watch her for just one hour and transfer her to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital but alas they did not transfer her until five hours later when they noticed she was restless and calling people at home.

“I boarded a bus going to Kano with her sister, Kemisola Oladepo, to go pick her from there. I begged them to take her to a teaching hospital around but they took her to a general hospital in Gwazo where they have nothing or little care to render.

“They took her phone from her, claiming she was not resting. From that 5PM I could not talk to her, I took a 16-hour journey to make sure I get to her but I was called around 3AM that she gave up, without any doctor in the hospital to assist her.

“The only nurse on duty told me she tried her best by staying beside her when death was taking her away because there was nothing to use.

“From that 3AM till I got to Kano I was hoping it would only be a mix up somewhere it can’t be her my Dolapo is gone… (Sobs).

“I got to Kano and met her at Aminu Kano mortuary, alas it was her being put in that cold place.”

(Sobs) “Amoke mi you couldn’t withstand the agony, NYSC successfully cut your destiny due to negligence.”

Although they are grieving, the Oladepo family wants the government to restructure the NYSC programme and provide infrastructure needed to prevent the loss of innocent young men and women all in the name of serving their fatherland.

?The Press and Public Relations Head of the NYSC in Abuja, Mrs Bosede Aderibigbe, when contacted told Channels Television correspondent in Osun state via the telephone that “the deceased corps member from the account I got arrived the Kano orientation camp sick and presented a medical report.

She claimed that it was not the drill in the camp as being alleged that complicated her case.

“We trained all our commandants and officers not to force anyone who is weak to do the drilling exercises.

“Although what happened is a big loss to the family and NYSC as well because we lost a life, we can only console the family.

“I have called for the full medical report and will send it to you immediately I get it.

“What we needed to do we have done. We asked the NYSC in Osun to attend the internment and this is the normal thing to commiserate with the family.

“The family should please accept our condolences but all reports reaching me indicates that she was not forced to do the regular drills as alleged. That is what I can say for now,” she concluded.

FG Wants To Tax Us To Death– Fayose

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has urged Nigerians to resist any attempt to impose new tax on them by the Federal Government.

Fayose in a press release issued in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, lamented that the body language of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress is that of who “wants to tax Nigerians to death.”

Wondering why government was always looking for more avenues for taxes, he asked, “Do they want Nigerians to pay with their blood.”

“If the only way the federal government believes it can take Nigeria out of recession is to impose obnoxious taxes that will further impoverish the people, the federal government is not being fair to Nigerians.”

“Under 20 months of Buhari’s government, petrol price was increased from N87 to N145 per litre, kerosene; diesel and gas prices were increased, electricity tariff was increased, N50 stamp duty was introduced on bank customers, 9% tax for the use of communication services like calls, SMS, MMS and data usage from telecommunication service providers; internet service providers and Pay TV Stations.

“It is also under this APC government that N65 levy was imposed on every withdrawal on ATM, various bank charges introduced, custom duties increased, increment of VAT from five per cent to 10 per cent contemplated, cost of vehicle number plate and driver’s licence increased, and now cost of internet subscription is to be increased too.

“Is this government out to tax Nigerians to death?”

While condemning the proposed increment in the cost of data, Fayose said it was strange that the federal government came with the idea less than three weeks after the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed complained about the damage being done to the image of the Buhari government by the social media.

My Son’s Death A Relief, Says Mother Of 23 Year Old Who Died Struggling For Gun

A vigilance group commander in the Oke Aro area of Ogun State, Quadri Adesina, has been arrested by the police after an alleged accidental discharge from his gun killed a 23-year-old man, Yusuf Azeez.

Azeez reportedly wanted to wrest the gun from the suspect when a bullet hit him in the thigh. He was rushed to a hospital in the area, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

It was learnt that the deceased’s mother, 42-year-old Toyin Akintayo, had invited Adesina and his colleagues to her residence on CAC Street, Oke Aro, around 8pm on Tuesday to apprehend Azeez, who allegedly threatened to kill her.

It was gathered that Azeez had arrived at home on that day at about 6pm and requested his dinner. The mother was said to have explained to him that she didn’t have enough money to prepare a meal.

Trouble started after the mother, who sells confectionery, gave him N200 to buy food, saying that was all she could afford. He reportedly smashed a bottle on the ground and vowed to kill her.

The mother said, “I wanted to break my fast on that day with garri when he arrived at home. I said there was no kerosene in the stove to prepare food for him and his younger brother. I gave him N200 and the brother N70. He said the N200 was small and threw it at me.

“I explained to him that it was all I had and that we wouldn’t have been in the situation if he did not steal the compressor of my freezer, which I used to sell ice blocks. I also advised him to find a job. He became angry and started threatening me with a knife and the shard of a bottle. He said he would not allow me to sleep at home that night and vowed to kill me.

“I sneaked out to call members of a vigilance group beside our house. They followed me home and tried to pacify him. He fought them and fought for the control of  a gun that one of them carried. The gun exploded in the process and he was injured in the thigh. He died at a hospital near here.”

Akintayo described her son’s death as a relief to her, saying she could no longer endure the shame his notoriety for “stealing and street fighting” had brought to the family.

She added that his son’s gang members stormed her house on Wednesday and threatened that she would pay for Azeez’s death.

She said, “I enrolled him in three different secondary schools, he dropped out. I took him to five different furniture experts to learn the work, he absconded. He went into barbing; I gave him N85,000 to rent a shop and furnished it for him. He didn’t go to the shop until the rent expired.

“His death is a relief to me and the family. He was too troublesome. There was a time he beat up an Oodua Peoples Cogress member while we were living in Idimu (Lagos). I spent a lot of money on the man’s treatment.

“A few weeks ago, he fought in Agege. He was seriously injured. He had been arrested many times by the police for several offences.”

The suspect, 48-year-old Adesina, who is in detention at the Agbado Police Division, said Azeez had beaten the two security guards that accompanied him to the scene, adding that he only wanted to prevail on him from causing further havoc when his gun exploded.

He said, “There was no light when we entered the building. He attacked us and two of my boys fled. I told him that I came to make peace. He said he didn’t fear my gun. He descended on me and wanted to snatch it. We were dragging it with each other when it exploded. I didn’t kill him. He would have killed me and his mother if he had access to the gun.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Police Command, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.

He said, “The Divisional Police Officer of the station, CSP Abioye Shittu, led operatives to the scene and the suspect has been arrested. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta.”

Transgender Muslim woman hacked to death few days after marrying a man.

A transgender Muslim woman has been hacked to death in Russia days after marrying a man after her father pleaded on television: ‘Bring him here and kill him in front of my eyes’.

The killing took place after the 25-year-old’s father Alimshaikh Aliev had told a TV station: ‘Let him be killed, I don’t want to see him. Bring him here and kill him in front of my eyes.’

The victim was from an ethnic Chechen family living in Dagestan, a Muslim region between the Caspian Sea and Chechnya in the Russian Trans-Caucasus, it was reported.

Following sex change surgery in Moscow around a month ago, a wedding ceremony was held and the murder took place several days later, according to reports.

The circumstances of the killing have not been disclosed.

‘He was hated for his non-traditional sexual orientation and when he changed his sex he was damned and received threats,’ stated Ren TV.

‘The young man decided to change his sex because he wanted to marry the man he loved, Viktor from Karachaevo-Cherkessiya (another mainly Muslim region in southern Russia).’

The wedding ‘shocked’ locals, reported Russian Dialog news site.

A female neighbour said the victim’s father ‘had a stroke’ when he discovered about the sex change and wedding and issued a ‘purman’, inviting people to kill Raina.

‘He cheated them, he went there to Moscow, had surgery and he turned from a boy to a girl,’ said the neighbour.

‘And now in Chechnya it is known too. His mother is saying “I don’t want to see him, I gave birth to a son, but what for? It is such a disgrace for the family”.

‘If the mother and father give a purman, it means they want him to be killed.’

The mother was reported to be ‘crying day and night’ over the operation and alleged wedding.

A Dagestan Mufti was quoted by KP newspaper saying: ‘Changing sex is totally forbidden, because it means that a man will be a woman.

‘It is totally forbidden in Islam. Changing sex is a protest against Allah.

‘Such surgery can be performed only in one case: when a person was born as a hermaphrodite and must decided what sex he wants to belong.

‘If a person changed his sex for another reason, he is damned, along with the surgeon who performed it.’

The surgery included breast implants the removal of the penis, it was claimed.

Deputy head of the village administration Abdutagur Israpilov said: ‘I knew Adam. He liked to put on tight leggings, his manners were feminine, even his voice was like a girl’s.

‘He finished school and went to live in Makhachkala (regional capital), and then Moscow, where he worked in nightclubs and made good money.

‘I don’t blame him (for the sex change). His feminine nature had won, so he decided to correct the mistake.

REVEALED: How Buhari missed death ‘by inches’ during the Biafra war.

President Muhammadu Buhari missed death by a few inches during the civil war, his authorised biographer has revealed.

In the book, Muhammadu Buhari: The Challenges of Leadership in Nigeria, John Paden, a former professor of public administration at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, recounted how the young officer, who commanded a brigade during the war that lasted from 1967-1970, narrowly escaped death.

Paden wrote: “Buhari was among the first of the junior officers to be sent into battle. He served until the end of the war. Buhari fought at Awka, and later commanded a brigade at Makurdi. He also had to defend areas between Enugu and Abakaliki. He learned to distinguish the types of weapons being fired at his men by the sounds of the gunfire.

“On one occasion, while marching with his men toward Ogoja, Buhari ran into a group of rebels, and the federal soldiers suffered serious casualties. On another occasion, a rebel sniper killed someone standing next to Buhari.”

Paden said many in Buhari’s battalion died from typhoid as a result of lack of clean drinking water, describing in detail the difficult terrain the troops had to overcome during the war.

“The rainforest of the southeast was very different from the dry savannah of the north, and often Buhari would lead his men with machetes as they cut their way through thick vegetation. Buhari emphasized the importance of seemingly unimportant  matters, such as the need for his men to keep their socks dry lest they be crippled by fungus. The health of his men was of critical importance, as was his own,” he wrote.

“During the war, Buhari did not observe fasting during the month of Ramadan, nor did many of his Muslim soldiers. To have done so would have resulted in physical weakness and a death sentence on the battlefield . He believed that Islam is not only tolerant and peaceful, but also capable of accommodating a variety of human circumstances.”

Throughout the war, Paden wrote, “Buhari made it clear to his men that they were not fighting the Igbos. Indeed, some of the men in his battalion and even some of his superior officers were Igbos.”

Buhari insisted that they were fighting “the rebels” and believed that the war could have gone either way but Nigeria was lucky, according to Paden.

Haiti death toll from Hurricane Matthew passes 1,000.

The number of people killed in Haiti by Hurricane Matthew has hit 1,000 as the country battles new deaths from a cholera outbreak and buries bodies in mass graves.

The powerful hurricane, the fiercest Caribbean storm in nearly a decade, slammed into Haiti on Tuesday, whipping it with 230 kilometre an hour winds and torrential rains.

The country is struggling to cope with a rise in cholera cases with officials warning that contaminated water and a lack of hygiene are posing serious risks to thousands of people in the impoverished country.

While the capital and biggest city, Port-au-Prince, was largely spared, the south suffered devastation. Aerial footage from the hardest-hit towns shows a ruined landscape of shanties with tin roofs blown away and downed trees everywhere. Mud from overflowing rivers covered the ground.

Citing local officials, Reuters news agency reported that at least 1,000 Haitians had been killed.

Authorities began burying the dead in mass graves in some areas – such as Jeremie, a city of 30,000 people – as bodies started to decompose, said Kedner Frenel, a government official.

Frenel said there was great concern about cholera spreading, and authorities were focused on getting water, food, and medication to thousands of people living in shelters.

Cholera causes severe diarrhoea and can kill within hours if untreated. It is spread through contaminated water and has a short incubation period, which leads to rapid outbreaks.

Government teams fanned out across the hard-hit southwestern tip of the country over the weekend to repair treatment centres and reach the epicentre of one outbreak.

In the village of Labei, locals said that the river had washed down cadavers from villages upstream. With nobody coming to move the corpses, residents used planks of driftwood to push them down the river and into the sea.

Down by the shore, the corpse of one man lay blistering in the sun. A few hundred metres to his left in a roadside gully, three dead goats stewed in the toxic slime.

“It seems to me like a nuclear bomb went off,” said Paul Edouarzin, a UN Environmental Programme employee.

“In terms of destruction – environmental and agricultural – I can tell you 2016 is worse than 2010,” he added, referring to the devastating 2010 earthquake from which Haiti has yet to recover.

Diarrhoea-stricken residents in the village of Chevalier were well aware of the nearby cholera outbreak, but had little option except to drink the brackish water from the local well, which they believed was already contaminated by dead livestock.

“We have been abandoned by a government that never thinks of us,” said Marie-Ange Henry, as she surveyed her smashed home.

She said Chevalier had yet to receive any aid and many, like her, were coming down with fever. Cholera, she feared, was on its way.

Up to 80 percent of crops in Haiti have been lost in some areas, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

CARE France, a humanitarian group, said about one million people were in need of urgent assistance, and that many had “nothing left except the clothes on their back”.

Nas, The Game & More Rappers Pay Tribute To Tupac On 20th Anniversary Of His Death

Contemporaries of Tupac like Nas and DJ Premier paid their respects to a fallen friend, while others like T.I., Lecrae and The Game took the time to honor someone who inspired their respective careers. Some offered up detailed explanations of Tupac’s effect on their lives while others simply provided a brief message in tribute to a legend.

One of the biggest ways that Tupac’s legacy has lived on is through his influence on hip-hop. There is no better example of his ever-looming presence on the genre and culture than the countless number of rappers he inspired. On the 20th anniversary of his death, many of those MCs who were impacted by Tupac’s music paid tribute to him on social media.

Politics: In Rivers, It’s A Game Of Death.

I’m not used to too much prayer, but I must begin today’s piece with a word of prayer. I pray that God Almighty visits the killers of Barr. Ken Atsuwete (and their sponsors) with slow and painful death. Amen!

I pray that the divine punishment for the dastardly act of Monday constitutes the largest chunk of the inheritance, which the killers (and their sponsors) would pass on to their children and their children’s children in the fullness of time. Amen and Amen and Amen!

But, one question kept coming to my mind on Monday, as I tried to make sense of the senseless abduction and murder of the activist lawyer in Port Harcourt: Aren’t we back to a not-too-unfamiliar narrative? For, it would appear, Rivers State relapses into a feast of blood as soon as a new date for the now-jinxed re-run election is within the horizon.

Everything – including kidnapping, armed robbery and, as is in this case, heinous assassination – suddenly begins to take a political coloration. It is either that ‘blood-thirsty’ Governor Nyesom Wike is trying to intimidate opponents with violence (the APC narrative), or Rotimi Amaechi and his APC gang are unleashing mayhem in order to underscore their claim that Rivers State is not safe for any election to hold there.

And now, the murder of Atsuwete perfectly fits the bill: He is not only the lawyer of a former council chairman, who is facing trial in a murder case, but is also representing the 22 council chairmen elected on the platform of the APC and who were sacked by the Wike administration.

Expectedly, the APC says the lawyer’s assassination is the worst politically motivated killing in recent times, while PDP says the APC is politicising criminality and trivialising a serious matter. But while they’re vomiting all the high-sounding nonsense, somebody’s husband, a father, a breadwinner, a community leader, a voice of the voiceless lies stone cold. Dead!

Incidentally, while members of the NBA were holding their conference in Port Harcourt last week, I had fantasised about some hooded goons kidnapping a few prominent (and some not-so-prominent) lawyers – just to underscore the narrative that Rivers State was still not safe. Luckily, it never happened.

But before Wike and his camp could pop champagne, the goons mowed down Atsuwete, casting ominous pall over the proposed end-of-October date for the legislative re-run elections.

Of course, it’s understandable: The ‘insecurity’ narrative is the thin thread on which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has hung its stubborn refusal to conduct outstanding National and State Assembly elections in Rivers State.

In fact, INEC has so foot-dragged on the matter that it is now very clear that there is more to the Rivers situation than meets the eye – something beyond the control of our ‘independent’ INEC.

At one point, the postponement of the elections was blamed on a mysterious fire that razed an INEC office in the state. Even when Wike said he offered to quickly rebuild the burnt office, INEC reportedly claimed it lost some ‘sensitive materials’ in the inferno and would have to call off the election. But as the governor would cynically observe, “where did we ever hear that INEC released ‘sensitive materials’ more than three weeks to an election?”

This seeming hide-and-seek game has since forced Wike to conclude that a phony game is afoot – so much so that today, he seems to have just one message for whoever cares to listen: “Tell INEC to come and conduct our elections…Tell INEC that Rivers State is safe.”

It was the same message he gave to the Nigerian Guild of Editors conference a couple of weeks ago. He repeated it to visiting Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola. And this Monday, he threw the same challenge at his colleagues in the NBA, whom he said had kept quiet in the face of the anomaly.

Similarly, in February, when the old students association of my secondary school, Federal Government College, Ilorin, held a reunion in the Garden City, an aide of the governor’s kept reassuring me of my safety in Port Harcourt. I ended up not making the trip, but everyone who did came back with pleasant memories. So, is this the same Port Harcourt that INEC is mortally afraid of? I just wonder!

Isn’t it unfair that nearly one and a half years into the four-year tenure of the present legislature, Rivers State has been forced to live without its full compliment of representation at the National Assembly? Or isn’t Rivers supposed to be bound by the laws passed by the eighth National Assembly?

Clearly, the excuse of insecurity is no longer tenable, especially, now that the state is relatively safe.

While one would wish the wrath of God on whoever wastes the life of a fellow human being just to score a political point, it is pertinent to note that Rivers state remains safer than several states in the North East (and even North Central), where INEC has since conducted both the main elections and the re-run elections – in spite of Boko Haram and rampaging herdsmen.

Even the PDP settled for Rivers State as venue for its convention a few weeks ago. The only insecurity issue that arose from there came from the seemingly partisan police, which sealed the original venue, under the guise of securing it.

Of course, the happenings in PDP, with relations to the seen and unseen hands, will be topic for another day. Until then, however, one must keep wondering if the APC does not deserve a medal for the confusion tearing PDP apart.

For now, my concern is with Wike’s Rivers State. Clearly, the touted insecurity exists only in the imagination (and machination) of INEC, the police and their paymasters. But, for as long as they keep trying to hide in the open, so long too will Rivers State remain an open sore on the conscience of President Buhari’s government – a living testimony to its curious democracy credentials.

But, of course, rather than wake us up to the need to do the needful, this assassination in Rivers will offers us opportunity to play politics some more. For politics appears to be the only thing going on in the country at the moment – even as the price of a bag of rice hits N18,500, five hundred naira higher than the minimum wage, which (even in the height of our recent past affluence) most of our governors said was too much for them to pay.

Today, our earning power has drastically reduced, people have been kicked out of their jobs. Those still in employment are owed several months’ arrears of salary.

The governors are still playing politics with workers – auditing staff, verifying staff, forever searching for ghost workers, and still refusing to pay those who have been cleared. With their eyes already fixed on 2019, the governors don’t want to sack, even when they know they cannot (or do not want to) pay.

Yes, as we’re all starving to death, the leaders are busy politicking. From APC states to PDP states, the preoccupation is with partisan politics. There is no talk about putting food on the table of the masses, beyond lip service, that is.

It is the same story from Bauchi (where Speaker Yakubu Dogara recently mobilised his supporters to go protest against Gov. Mohammed Abubakar) to Imo (where they are going to the land of the dead and back). Kano (where they’re playing politics with mass wedding), Edo (where they’re campaigning and dancing, as if they’re high on some cheap substances), Ondo (where they have introduced juju into the mix), Kogi (where they’re already stoning themselves), Enugu (where rampaging herdsmen have found a soft target) and Ekiti (where the herdsmen politics has played into a cul-de-sac).

And when all these do not provide the needed distraction, they mouth security, corruption, IPOB, Avengers. Just anything, apart from putting food on the table, returning people to employment and reining down the Dollar that is forever looking skyward. We have been preparing to go into agriculture to diversify the economy for nearly two years now. Two planting seasons have passed us by. Surely, this is a game of death.

Japanese Father Stabs Son To Death Over Studies

Japanese father stabbed his 12-year-old son to death after complaining the boy was failing to study for a school entrance exam, media said Tuesday.

Kengo Satake, the boy’s 48-year-old father, told police that he “argued with his son for not studying” before a test to enter a private junior high school, public broadcaster NHK reported.

Competition for entry to the best schools in Japan is intense. Admission to a prestigious one is seen as having a decisive impact on a child’s future prospects.

The son, named Ryota, was taken to hospital Sunday after the stabbing but died from loss of blood, Aichi prefectural police in the central city of Nagoya told AFP.

“The father stabbed his son in the chest with a kitchen knife,” a police spokesman said, declining to provide details of the motive.

The father was arrested after police got a call from hospital staff, he said.

Satake reportedly told police he had stabbed his son “by mistake.”

The boy was aiming to enter one of the leading private schools in Aichi prefecture and his father had regularly scolded him over his studies, NHK said, citing people with knowledge of the family.

The boy’s mother was at work when the incident occurred, the Asahi Shimbun daily reported.

Man Arrested After Punching His 4-Year-Old Daughter To Death

A man in Minneapolis, Minnesota was charged with second-degree intentional murder on Tuesday after repeatedly punching his 4-month-old daughter to “quiet her” when she was crying. The child was later pronounced dead at a hospital as a result of her injuries.

According to The Star Tribune, Cory Morris, 21, told police that he was watching television when his daughter, Emersyn Morris, began making “baby talk,” and he carried her to the changing table in her bedroom. When she continued making noises, he punched her with a closed fist to get her to stop. CBS reports that he hit the child 15 times in the head and seven times in the chest.

Morris reportedly showed no signs of remorse over the murder and turned himself into police after the violence occurred. When authorities arrived at his home on Saturday, he was covered in blood and his right fist was swollen. Family members tell The Star Tribune that they had been trying to get Morris psychological help for at least a year, but that he’d never previously showed violent tendencies. Both they and the child’s mother, Jennifer Anderson, said they would not have left Emersyn under his care if they had believed he was capable of hurting her.

“We never thought he would hurt the baby,” his mother, Ginny Morris, said. “We would never allow him to be with the baby if that was the case. We were worried he was going to hurt himself, not the baby.”

On Monday, Anderson took to Facebook to voice her grief over losing her child.

Man Beats Wife To Death For Denying Him Sex

An Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ court has ordered the remand of a 42-year-old man, Josiah Johnson, in prison custody for allegedly beating his wife to death.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 3 at Erio-Ekiti in Ekiti West Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

He said that the accused, on the said date, unlawfully caused the death of his wife, Mrs Julianah Johnson by beating her to death.

According to him, the husband wanted sexual intercourse with his wife, now deceased, but she declined saying she did not want to get pregnant after having seven children.

He told the court that the man, infuriated by his wife’s refusal, beat her to submission and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her, all of which led to her death.

Oriyomi said the offence contravened Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap C 16, Laws of Ekiti State. 2012.

The prosecutor, however, sought an adjournment of the matter as he still needed legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The plea of the accused was not taken because of the development while his counsel, Mr Tunde Falade, did not object to the request for a short adjournment pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice.

Magistrate Taiwo Ajibade consequently remanded the accused in prison custody and adjourned the case to September 12.

News Of Death Of 1,005 Kwara Pensioners Is False And Misleading – APC

The All Progressives Congress in Kwara State has said media reports that claimed 1,005 pensioners died in Kwara State is false and misleading.

In a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Sulyman Buhari, the party advised journalists to demand verifiable and credible documents from interviewees when interviewees make wide and false claims.

As a government and party, we are always in close interaction with the leadership of labour unions in Kwara State. There is no such record that 1,005 pensioners died since April 2015 as a result of unpaid pension allowances. The report is utterly false and misleading.

The entire public should also note that the Kwara State Government is up to date with payment of salaries and entitlements to State workers and pensioners.

Between the period of April 2015 and August 2016, some workers who were not owed a dime had died. Would it have been right to link the circumstances of their deaths to issues pertaining to salaries?

As a party, we are aware that the local government administrations are struggling to meet financial obligations especially to some pensioners but it doesn’t warrant such falsehood as being promoted by some pensioners.

We wish to assure the pensioners that the Kwara State governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed is working with chairmen of local councils to resolve the issues relating to entitlements of retirees.

Tunji Braithwaite Is Dead

Elder statesman, Dr. Tunji Braithwaite is dead, aged 82. Dr. Tunji Braithwaite Braithwaite reportedly died on Monday morning at St. Nicholas Hospital, Lagos. The founder of the Nigerian Advance Party, NAP was a delegate at the 2014 National Conference, canvassed for a Confederal Constitution to replace the 1999 Constitution.

He described the 1999 Constitution as Decree 24 which was presently destroying Nigeria and Nigerians, stressed that it should be thrown out and be replaced with either a Confederal constitution, with Nigeria operating con-federalism or a very loose federation.

Also, Braithwaite disagreed with former President Goodluck Jonathan on 100 years celebration, saying that the President got it wrong as Nigeria was only 54 years old, adding that Nigeria was still work in progress. He said: “Let the word go forth that there are a number of brave, honest nationalistic persons in this Conference that, hopefully would be able to reconstruct Nigeria in a way that the blessings, peace and prosperity rightly deserved by the peoples of this country would be guaranteed by a New Confederal Constitution.

Convicted Serial Rapist Killed By Trailer While He Watched ‘Porn’ On His Phone

A convicted serial rapist in Memphis, Tennessee, 55 year old Kevin Jordan, was walking on a side-walk while watching porn on his cell phone when he got hit by a runaway trailer which smashed into a fence and struck him.
A man who witnessed the accident last Wednesday around 5 p.m. said police told them that Jordan was looking at porn on his phone when he was hit. He added that Jordan was killed just a few houses down from where he lived.

According to authorities, Jordan was a known sexual offender in the early 1990s. He was known as
the ‘Highland Street Rapist’ in Memphis and was sentenced to 25 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to 20 felonies in 1994, which included nine counts of rape, one attempted rape, as well as four robberies and three burglaries. He had raped four women after breaking into their homes, two in 1991 and two in 1992, while he was out on parole after being convicted of a similar rape and burglary conviction.

He was released from prison in 2010 for good behavior.

Connie Harris

His fiancée, Connie Harris said that he turned his life around since he was convicted of the rapes and released from prison.
But according to New York Daily News, court records show he was arrested for indecent exposure last year.
A woman who did not want to be identified said she called police when she saw Jordan expose himself while wearing a trench coat. She said when she looked out her office window, he started masturbating to her– but ran away when she called police.
However, Harris defended her fiancé after the accusation was made, stating that Jordan recently had a kidney transplant and was near the woman’s office because he was on dialysis. She said Jordan was urinating, not exposing himself.

Harris said despite Jordan’s past, he was a changed and good person and did not deserve to die the way he did.
“It’s a big loss. I love him. I still love him,” Harris said.

The Police are still investigating the accident. The driver pulling the trailer has not been charged.

Cameroon Sentences 89 Boko Haram Members To Death

Cameroun has sentenced 89 members of the Boko Haram terrorist group to death over terror charges.

In contrast, Nigeria where the deadly insurgency started and has recorded tens of thousands of deaths caused by the violent sect, has only convicted a handful of terrorists to prison terms.

Rather than convicting terrorists, who have been caught and detained in special prison facilities in mainly northern Nigeria, the federal government has been expending huge resources on their rehabilitation.

According to a BBC report, a Camerounian military court tried the insurgents over their roles in several attacks in the northern part of the country which borders Nigeria. Since 2009 when Boko Haram launched its campaign of violence, Cameroun has been its next target after Nigeria.

Hoodlums Stab LAWMA Worker In The Eye For Tipping Off Police

A worker with the Lagos State Waste Management Agency, Oluwaseun Thomas, is currently on admission at a private hospital on the Lagos Island, after hoodlums stabbed him in the eye for allegedly reporting their activities to the police.

Thomas was said to have been beaten up by the hoodlums, before they stabbed him in the eye.

Punch Metro learnt that Thomas, whose work area was Oja Oba Market on Dosumu Street, was initially rushed to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba, to remove the hoodlums’ knife which was left in his head, before being taken to a private hospital for further treatment.

It was  gathered that Thomas had supplied information, through a community leader in the area, to the police Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, that hoodlums kept weapons in a hideout in the market.
The SARS policemen were said to have stormed the market, and recovered the weapons, including cutlasses, knives and guns, but they were unable to arrest the hoodlums.

On Thursday, January 21, 2016, at about 9pm, Thomas, who was on a night duty, was clearing some refuse in the market when the hoodlums attacked him.Apart from Thomas, some other workers of the agency at the market were also attacked.

After stabbing him in the eye through the side of his head, the hoodlums abandoned the LAWMA worker by the roadside with the knife stuck in his eye.Residents, who alerted the police at the Adeniji Adele division, were said to have also rushed him to LUTH.

Speaking with PUNCH Metro, a resident, Saheed Alatise, said he initially thought the hoodlums came to extort money from the LAWMA workers.

He said, “The hoodlums got information that some LAWMA workers gave the police information on the location of their weapons.
“It was not only Seun (Thomas) that they attacked. They stabbed other LAWMA workers who were rushed to the Lagos Island General Hospital for treatment as well.“However, they focused on Thomas as they threw him to the ground and punched him. They brought out knives and stabbed him, leaving one of the knives in his eye.”

Our correspondent gathered that a LAWMA driver, identified simply as Suraju, and one Azeez Taofeeq, were among those who sustained injuries.

Another eyewitness, identified only as Alao, said,

“The hoodlums were about 10 men. They were led by Agoro, Matanmi and Marcus. Thomas had informed the police about their criminal activities in the market. That was why the hoodlums came after him.”

A woman, who is a community leader, but spoke on condition of anonymity, said the attack on the LAWMA worker was successful partly because he put on his earphones on the night of the incident.

She said, “Thomas just finished secondary school and he is looking for money to start his university education.
“His father is late, and the boy is just struggling. His offence was that he hinted us that hoodlums were hiding guns in the market
“After that police operation, they came after him. What made the attack successful was that he had earphones on and did not hear the commotion when the hoodlums stormed the market. The knife has been removed, but he is still in a coma.”

Thomas could not speak with PUNCH Metro due to his condition. Doctors at the hospital said he was still unconscious.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, also confirmed the incident, adding that the police were waiting for the complainant to give a lead on the arrest of the hoodlums.

She said, “The matter was reported on that day and the police gave the victim a medical paper to go to the hospital and treat himself. However, he has not turned up since then to allow the police follow up the case.“The police have been calling him to provide a statement that will lead us to make an arrest, but we have not seen him. We assume he is no longer interested in pursuing the matter.”

Fraud Suspect Dies In EFCC’s Custody

Tragedy has hit the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, after a suspect in its custody, suddenly developed chest pains, and died.

EFCCArowofela Olufemi, who was being investigated by the commission following allegations by the Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC, that he fraudulently converted over N100 million dividend warrants to himself, died in a military hospital, where he was rushed to by officials of the EFCC.

A statement made available to Vanguard yesterday indicated that Olufemi had complained of chest pains early in the day and was rushed to an unnamed military hospital in Lagos, where he gave up the ghost before doctors could attend to him.

The EFCC statement was signed by its spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, who said  the cause of the suspect’s death was unknown as at the time of going to the press.

Uwujaren said: “The cause of the sudden death is yet to be ascertained even as the corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the mortuary of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital. The family of the deceased has already been notified of the incident while the matter has been reported to the Onikan Division of the Nigeria Police.”

It will be recalled that the late Olufemi was arrested following a complaint by the SEC, alleging that he was involved in fraudulent conversion of dividend warrants of over N100 million.

Following the report by SEC, operatives of EFCC arrested him at the premises of a bank while attempting to cash alleged stolen dividend warrants.

After his arrest and detention, he was offered administrative bail but could not produce a surety to perfect his bail thereby leading to extended incarceration.

Lawyers To INEC: Death Of APC Candidate Does Not Invalidate Election

Lawyers yesterday told the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) that the death of the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) does not invalide the on-going election in the state.

They urged INEC to allow the deputy governorship candidate of the APC, Abiodun Faleke, to conclude the on-going election.

The former Chairman of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikeja Branch, Monday Ubani; a member of the Ogun State Judiciary Service Commission, Abayomi Omoyinmi and a lecturerý of Law at University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, Wahab Shittu said the process should be concluded.

Ubani said: “Since the Electoral Act didn’t specifically provide for things like this happening in the course of an election, we would have to make recourse to the judicial pronouncement in the case of Rotimi Amaechi where the Supreme Court said in an election, it is the political party that is the beneficiary of election and not the candidate. That is why Amaechi that didn’t contest elections was sworn in.

“In this situation, the deputy governorship candidate would have to step in to conclude the process. If he wins the election, the APC would then decide on another deputy for him”.

According to Ubani, the time to choose a candidate through primary election had lapsed for all the political parties and it is not possible for any of the parties to go for primaries anymore.

Omoyinmi said: “In the eyes of the law, the deputy should ordinarily conclude the re-run election for the office of the governor and it is now left for him to pick a new running mate”.

Omoyinmi said the kind of situation in Kogi was not envisaged.

Shittu said the matter could be viewed from different perspectives.

Shittu said since the election was declared inconclusive, the running mate should be allowed to step in and conclude the process of the supplementary election.

This, he said, has become necessary because the electoral law did not envisage such an incident–Audu’s death.

On the other perspective, he said since it is the ýparty that fields the candidate, and that since the election has turned this way, the party would have to replace the governorship candidate.

“Which means that election might be conducted afresh. The death of a candidate during the process of an election automatically voids the election. It is not a question of an election being inconclusive. The entire electoral process is now altered with the death of the governorship candidate,” he said.

Constitutional lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Malam Yusuf Ali said the situation in Kogi is “very complex, because the election has been declared inconclusive”.

He said: “If he had won the election outright, it would have been a different matter, but with the way things are, it is very delicate.”

Chief Niyi Akintola (SAN) said: “There can be fresh election. INEC can only conduct supplementary election in the 91 polling units. The death of Audu cannot nullify the election. It was APC that contested the governorship election not Audu as an individual.”

Akintola explained that it is left to the APC to pick another candidate from among those that contested the governorship primary with Audu or ask the deputy governorship candidate, James Faleke to take over.

“The decision lies with the APC,” he added.

The presidential candidate of the United Progressive Party (UPP) in the last general elections, Chief Chekwas Okorie, said it was a very shocking development that threw everybody off-balance.

He said: “ From every indication, it is a political party that wins an election; the result so far released suggests that the people of Kogi State are favourably disposed to an APC government to be in-charge of affairs in the next four years. What it therefore means is that the APC still has a chance, even his death, to govern the state, based on the result already declared.

“So, they should follow up the supplementary election with the same atmosphere of peace that we witnessed in last Saturday’s election. If their choice is the APC, then let the APC rule them in the next four years.”

Woman Sentenced To Death For Hiring Assassin To Kill Her Daughter

Convicted of capital murder for persuading a family friend to gun her daughter down on a remote dirt road in Russell County on July 5, 2007, Lisa Leanne Graham was sentenced to the death penalty.

After a jury convicted her March 5, Judge Jacob Walker III initially set a sentencing date of May 1, but then postponed it so Graham could have a psychological evaluation. Walker noted then that Graham had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and was taking medications prescribed for schizophrenia.

Wednesday’s sentencing is not the end of the story, as Graham is expected to appeal, a process that will add new chapters to what even veterans of the criminal justice system found to be a sordid and surreal story of a mother whose jealousy and disdain for her daughter led to a cold-blooded murder on an isolated Russell County road.

Graham was accused of persuading longtime family worker Kenneth Walton to kill daughter Stephanie Shea Graham, who went by Shea. Walton said the mother met him at the Columbus Public Library that day and loaned him her pistol for the job.

He caught up with Shea at a Victory Drive gas station, where she left her car with friends and rode off in Walton’s pickup truck. He took her on a long, night drive down Alabama Highway 165 before pulling off on Bowden Road so they could relieve themselves.

When she got out to squat beside the truck’s open passenger door, he pulled out the pistol and shot her in the head from the driver’s seat, then got out, walked around the truck and shot her again and again.

He left her half-nude body where it lay, and drove away. Asked in court how his deadly betrayal of a young woman who trusted him made him feel that night, he replied, “I felt normal.”

Because witnesses saw Shea leave the gas station with Walton, investigators focused on him immediately. He confessed, and told them of the mother’s involvement, particularly of the pistol he had returned to her the next day.

Lisa Graham further incriminated herself when authorities came looking for the gun. She had given it to an elderly neighbor she knew as “Papa” to clean, but told sheriff’s investigators she didn’t know where it was, and allowed them futilely to search her house before her husband told them “Papa” might have it.

Finding ample evidence of her involvement in the homicide, they charged her with murder. Russell County District Attorney Ken Davis said the circumstances warranted the death penalty

#BelieveItOrNot Woman Claims Micheal Jackson’s Ghost Impregnated Her,Sues His Estate

A woman claims that her mixed race baby was fathered by Michael Jackson’s ghost – and is now suing his estate for child support

According to Now8News, Kiera Johnson said that she was watching the 2-hour Michael Jackson 30 Year Anniversary Special on DVD.

When she got to MJ’s performance of Thriller, however, her eyes grew heavy and she found herself dozing off.It was at this point that things got a little strange…

The 32-year-old explained:

“All of a sudden, I was awakened by a hand caressing my face. But I was home alone; my husband was at work.“The next thing you know, I’m having this erotic encounter with Michael Jackson. But it wasn’t the white Michael Jackson, he was black, and dressed like he was straight out of the Thriller video. “I told him to stop, but he would listen.”

Kiera dismissed the  encounter’ with Michael Jackson as nothing more than a strange dream.
However, on 25th September 2015, she and her husband – also white – welcomed their third child together.

“Everything was going well with the birth,” said her husband Ken.“But then when I saw my son, and he was black, I said ‘What the hell is this!’ I was in absolute shock. That’s when Kiera told me about her terrifying dream.

“I think it’s wrong what happened and that’s why we are suing Michael Jackson’s estate. We just want a decent amount of child support to help raise his son.”

Kiera insists she has never cheated on her husband Ken with anybody of any race. And Ken, who dubs Kiera as his “queen”, says he trusts and believes her completely.

The Johnsons say they are willing to accept an out-of-court negotiation and are giving the Jackson family until 1st January 2016 to respond. The Jackson family have yet to respond publicly to the allegations.

Afghan Woman Stoned To Death For Adultery

A young Afghan woman was stoned to death after being accused of adultery, officials said Tuesday, a medieval punishment apparently recorded in a video that harks back to the dark days of Taliban rule.

The 30-second clip run in Afghan media shows a woman in a hole in the ground as turbaned men gather around and hurl stones at her with chilling nonchalance.

The woman, named by officials as Rokhsahana and aged between 19 and 21, is heard repeating the shahada, or Muslim profession of faith, her voice growing increasingly high-pitched as stones strike her with sickening thuds.

The killing took place about a week ago in a Taliban-controlled area just outside Firozkoh, the capital of central Ghor province, officials said, confirming the video which was sourced and released by international broadcaster Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

Lagos Building Collapse Survivors Narrate How They Escaped Death

Alhaja Fatimo Ishola from Buku Chieftancy family of Oshodi, is lucky to be alive. But her mother, Alhaja Mistura Hamomodu, the 85-year-old woman who was rescued alongside four others was not so lucky. She died hours after she was rushed to the Lagos Island General Hospital. They were both residents of the ill-fated three-storey building located at No. 87 Odunfa Street, which collapsed on Wednesday, trapping many occupants.

According to Alhaja Ishola who disclosed that she was bathing when the incident occurred, the house had been showing signs of defect, adding that her attention was called to a crack on one side of the wall before it collapsed.

Recalling how she found herself trapped under a pillar, she said that after a neighbour called her attention to the crack, she decided to have a bath and leave the house.

“Just as I made to pick my towel, I heard a loud noise and saw myself going under. Everywhere instantly became dark and I was covered with dust. I couldn’t breathe and I realised I was trapped by a pillar. At a point, I gave up and called to God to save me. It was at that point I remembered that my old mother was asleep when the incident happened.”

She said she was able to crawl out of the rubble while her mother was also rescued alive. But the woman later died at the hospital. Ishola, the only child of the deceased, blamed the death of her mother on negligence on the part of nurses and doctors at the Lagos Island Hospital.

Magazine’s Published Article Blames This Newspaper For Alamieyeseigha’s Death

One “The Source Magazine” has lashed out a serious allegation against Premium Times.

The magazine shared a recent publication  with a Cover Story entitled: ” Alamieyeseigha: How False Story Killed Him”.

In the article, the magazine insinuated that the recent death of a former Governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, penultimate week, was triggered by a purported story published by Premium Times that the British government made a request to the Nigerian government for the extradition of the former governor to the United Kingdom to face money laundering charges.

The magazine specifically stated: “An online portal, PREMIUM TIMES had recently rehashed its March 28, 2013 story and presented it to unsuspecting readers as fresh. A section of the traditional media also strangely keyed into the PREMIUM TIMES stale story and published it as fresh. Quoting the immediate past British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Andrew Pocock, PREMIUM TIMES had reported that the UK government was interested in extraditing Alamieyeseigha to stand trial and that a request had already been made to the federal government to that effect”.

Premium Times however denies the allegation, saying that any publication related to that issue was published in 2003.

Ololade Ajekigbe: Alamieyeseigha; When Death Confers Sainthood

The news of the death of the “Governor-General of the Ijaw Nation,” Diepreye Alamieyeseigha came out of the blue considering the fact that there was no fore knowledge or prior information of his illness from the media. The 62-year old former governor of Bayelsa State reportedly died after a protracted battle with kidney disease, diabetes and high blood pressure at the University of Port-Harcourt Teaching Hospital after slipping into a coma two days before.  Like almost every other subject in Nigeria, the news of his death has resulted in controversy as Nigerians have continued to elicit varying reactions to it. The revelation that the British Government had requested to have the ex-governor extradited to the UK in a bid to resurrect the inconclusive case of money laundering against him certainly added fuel to the ongoing debate.

The late Diepreye Alamieyeseigha was controversial in life no doubt, and now in death he may have even become more controversial. A section of the populace have opined that no matter what a dead person did wrong while they were alive, it is absolutely wrong, inappropriate and disrespectful to speak ill of them. It doesn’t matter whether they were known to be a thief, fraudster or even a murderer during their earthly sojourn. As one who had the privilege of being alive, while the other person was six feet under, it wasn’t just in your place to say anything that was not in line with extolling the virtues of the person now that they were no more. While the second school of thought believe it is nothing but hypocrisy to manufacture virtues that are non existent in order to be seen as aligning with a popular maxim. I belong to the latter category.

In the case of Alamieyeseigha, even though he was the first civilian governor of the oil rich Bayelsa State, and appears to be well loved by his people; sadly, it is impossible to forget that the man was more popular and will be remembered more for the his brush with the law while he was alive than anything else. For how can the average Nigerian forget that the former governor was found with a whopping £1m in cash in his London home and a head spinning €1.8m in cash and bank accounts. Let alone the value of his real estate in the same country which was alleged to be worth £10m. The facts are there for anyone to verify; Former governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha was arrested and detained by London’s Metropolitan Police in September 2005. He also jumped bail from the UK in December 2005 by allegedly disguising himself as a woman, even though he denied this part of the story. He was also impeached on allegations of corruption upon his return to Nigeria. These are facts that cannot be distorted no matter how sentimental some people have chosen to be upon his death.

The Bayelsa State government and staunch loyalists of the late indigene of Amassoma, particularly his Ijaw kindred are positive that the federal government had a hand in his death. They posit that the government of the day were the ones who wanted and prompted the UK authorities to request that he be extradited to the Uk to answer to the outstanding case they have against him. In the first place, the British authorities have denied that there was any move to return the late ex governor back to England. Secondly, even if it were true that the Buhari led government planned to get Alamieyeseigha to answer for his “sins,” are we saying it is not within the rights of the government to do so? Especially with the ongoing fight against corruption in the country. Alamieyeseigha was granted a presidential pardon here in Nigeria. It never translated to him getting a clean bill of health outside the country!

If we decide not to speak ill of the dead, does it automatically erase the ills the dead did when they were alive? This was a man who pleaded guilty to six charges of corrupt enrichment, and was sentenced to two years imprisonment on each count. Yet, some have chosen to turn a blind eye to these obvious facts, and would rather run with trumped up tales of a perceived witch hunt. It is one of the major reasons why we are where we are today! Ethnic and tribal sentiments almost always get the better of us. “As long as he is my friend, brother or I have benefited from him at one time or the other, then he can do no wrong.” For those who feel that the people who are not sympathetic to a dead man’s plight are insensitive and must be offending God, what will they say to those who have lost loved ones due to the greed of one man. The huge amounts stolen could have been channeled into providing adequate health facilities or send some children who are wasting away hawking goods just because their poor parents cannot afford to pay for an education to school.

How does one quantify the multiplier effect the looting of our common treasury has on the general populace, particularly on the down trodden of the society? A looter may not be seen in the same light as a murderer who pulls the trigger on his hapless victim, but it is right up there with the crime of assassination when one takes a look at it critically. Anyone who has at one time or the other unashamedly stolen money that is meant for millions of people without a second thought as to what fate would befall them because of their action is tantamount to a murderer. It doesn’t matter if they are dead or alive. Death does not and should not automatically confer sainthood.

For the sake of clarity, I am not happy that Alamieyeseigha is dead, for one; it is sheer folly to wish anyone dead or rejoice at anyone’s death because it is a due that every living being is condemned to pay sooner or later. I am only unhappy that he escaped justice. Indeed, he appears to be the winner in all of these. What with the eulogies that have been pouring forth since his demise, one would have thought that he was one of our national heroes.

So, here is my submission; let those who want to mourn the former governor go ahead and do so. They are well within their rights to do so. Besides no matter how bad a person may be, they are bound to have done some good too to certain people and at one time or the other. But, those who have also decided not to mourn Alamieyeseigha for reasons best known to them should also not be begrudged or vilified for not doing so. After all it is a free country and everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Bemdoo hulugh: What Legacy Would Generations Unborn Know Of Our Nigerian Politicians?

When I heard of the death of DSP Alamieyeseigha, I began to think about what will be going through his mind those last moments before his death. Here is a man who most likely couldn’t travel abroad for treatment because he is a wanted man outside the shores of this country and couldn’t get good treatment here because almost 8years as governor he didn’t build a single hospital that can save lives. Like the story of the rich man and Lazarus, he can’t come back to warn his brothers(and sisters) but if given the opportunity he will tell them “all is vanity” and I guess those will be his last words.

Alamieyeseigha was loved in Bayelsa mostly as a result of our normal sickness of low expectation and I see people saying things like don’t speak bad about the dead. Unfortunately he will be remembered for what he really is. In trying to write this piece, I attempted a Google search on Alamieyeseigha and saw suggestions like “Alamieyeseigha disguise” “Alamieyeseigha dressed like a woman” and “Alamieyeseigha escape from London” among others. His place in Nigeria’s history is certainly not pretty and God may forgive his soul as I see many people write on social media but history will not be that kind to him.

Albert Nobel who invented dynamite woke up one morning to see his obituary in the news papers. A French news paper wrote “Le marchand de la mort est mort,” meaning “the merchant of death is dead.”  he was described as a man “who became rich by finding ways to kill people faster than ever before.” This made Nobel worry about how the world will remember him after death and he began to dedicate his life to foster world peace. A year before he died,he signed his last will and testament, which set aside majority of his vast estate to establish five Nobel prizes including one for the pursuit of peace. The world no longer remembers Albert Nobel as “the merchant of death.” He is remembered today as the founder of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Our politicians are too shallow in thought to use the death of Alamieyeseigha to ask themselves that thought provoking question on how they will be remembered in Nigeria’s history. All those who have held or are still holding positions of public trust must ask themselves this question. What will Nigerians be writing on social media about you when you die? What will the younger generation tell their unborn or young children about you? we all must ask ourselves this question again and again. The legacy you leave behind can be a burden or a precious gift to your loved once. Billy Graham once said “The greatest legacy one can pass on to one’s children and grandchildren is not money or other material things accumulated in one’s life, but rather a legacy of character and faith.” the legacy of DSP Alamieyeseigha is there for all to see but what about us? Albert Nobel showed us that the living can still do something about their legacy but not the dead.

Teen Falls To Death While Taking Extreme Selfie

Seventeen-year-old Andrey Retrovsky from Vologda, Russia, had gained some notoriety — at least on Instagram — for his selfies.

Strictly speaking, some were images of him that looked like they were taken by someone else. The effect, though, was to show his daredevil spirit. Many were of him on rooftops or other dangerously high places.

Sadly, as the International Business Times reports, his latest idea was to hang from a roof by a rope, thereby pretending he was falling. But the rope reportedly snapped and he fell from the 9-story building to his death.

Some estimates suggest that more people have been killed by selfies than by sharks in 2015. But of course it isn’t the selfie that kills, it’s the person who takes risks while taking one.

Policeman Sentenced To Death By Hanging For Murder

A Rivers State High Court has sentenced one Inspector Samuel Timothy of the Nigeria Police to death by hanging for shooting and killing a sachet water dealer, Onyekachi Nwasouba.

The court’s ruling is coming about five years after Nwasouba was murdered by the police at about 5am on November 10, 2010 at No. 34, Old Aba Road, Port Harcourt.

Nwasouba, who was a graduate of Industrial Chemistry, was branded an armed robber by the police while he was on his way to distribute his products to customers within the Port Harcourt metropolis.

The deceased was shot dead by a team of policemen, led by Timothy, at the front of his residence, even after he (Nwasouba) shouted to the hearing of the policemen that he was only a pure water producer and not an armed robber.

Blind Prophet Claims Late Ooni Of Ife Gave His Life To Christ Before His Death

The late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, who died last week, had a premonition of his death.

He told a Christian minister recently that God had told him the date of his death and that he would not be physically present when one of his children would be getting married this month of August, urging the man of God to ensure he was present at the marriage ceremony to give spiritual guidance to his children.

Few months ago, Oba Sijuade also visited the Hour of Mercy Prayer Ministry, at Ojedeji Two, Moniya near Ibadan, to surrender his life to Jesus Christ and became a born again Christian.

These claims were revealed by the General Overseer of the Church, Prophet Muhideen Kasali, while ministering during the August monthly Night service, held at Ori-Oke Alaseyori, Moniya, at the weekend.

Kasali, who is blind, had earlier sang glowingly for over two hours in honour of the late Oba, recalling how Oba Sijuwade stormed the Church mountain and said he had come for the salvation of his soul, asking that the prophet pray for him.

Said Prophet Kasali: “His royal father the late Oba, with all his wealth and majesty, came to this mountain of Mercy to surrender his life to Jesus Christ for the salvation of his life.” Oba Sijuwade said he was doing so because God had revealed to him that he (Muhideen Kasali) is a true prophet of God. Prophet Kasali said afterwards that he prayed for the Ooni and God received him and handed a certificate to heaven to him and the angels were happy for his redemption.

Prophet Kasali who was addressing over ten thousand faithful on that night, explained that few weeks ago, late Oba Sijuwade called him into his palace at Ile-Ife, Osun State, and said God had revealed to him the date of his death.

Therefore, he (Prophet Kasali), should ‘spiritually search’ his palace and residence to discover whether there was anything unholy or ungodly there. “After I was conducted round, I told him everywhere was in order spiritually.

“Late Ooni told me that he was embarking on a journey very soon and I should take care of his family. At this point, I asked him about the marriage of his son coming up this month of August. He answered that he won’t be around to witness the marriage ceremony.

“On the day the late Ooni died, his spirit came to my residence at the Mount of Mercy, Moniya, at exactly 5:00 am and knocked my door. I woke my assistant, Bidemi, up after opening the door to ask if there was anybody asking for me. He said it was 5.00 am and nobody was looking for me. I asked spiritually and discovered it was the late Ooni that knocked the door to say goodbye.”

Only Palace Chiefs Can Announce Monarch’s Death, IDB Debunks Oba’s Death Reports

The President of Ife Development Board (IDB), Prof. Muib Opeloye, on Wednesday debunked reports of the death of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade.

Mr. Opeloye, who addressed a crowd that had besieged the Ooni’s palace to confirm the veracity of the reports, said: “Although Baba is advanced in age, he is still hale and hearty in London.

“lf anything of such happened, there is no need spreading the news and moreover, if it indeed happened, there is a way of announcing such news,’’ he said.

Mr. Opeloye enjoined the people of Ife and other well-wishers to go about their normal businesses.

The Royal Traditional Secretary of Ooni’s Palace, High Chief Adetoye Odewole, had earlier debunked media reports announcing the death.

Mr. Odewole, while addressing a press conference at the Ooni’s palace on Wednesday, said the reports were based on mere rumour.

Speaking in the same vein at the press conference, the Lowa Adimula of Ife, High Chief Joseph Ijaodola, said the Ooni was alive, hale and hearty.

Mr. Ijaodola claimed that he spoke with the Ooni in London an hour before the press conference.

Shops, markets and offices remained open in Ife Wednesday while normal socio-economic activities continued unhindered.

Gaddafi’s Son Sentenced To Death

A court in Libya has sentenced Saif al-Islam, the most prominent son of Libya’s slain leader Muammar Gaddafi, to death by firing squad.

He was sentenced in absentia on Tuesday by a court in the capital, Tripoli, along with eight other senior members of the former regime, which was overthrown in 2011.

They were accused of war crimes and suppressing peaceful protests during the revolution, a state prosecutor said in early June.

The trial had started in April 2014 before fighting between rival factions resulted in a power struggle with two governments competing for authority – one based in Tripoli and the other one in Tobruk in the east.

Saif al-Islam has been held since 2011 by a former rebel group in Zintan that opposes the Tripoli government.

Abdullah Senussi, the former intelligence chief, was among the former regime officials sentenced, as well as former prime minister Baghdadi Ali Mahmudi.

Sugary Drinks Kill 184,000 Adults Around The World Every Year, Says Study

Sugary drinks are killing 184,000 adults around the world every year, and should be eliminated from people’s diets, medical experts have warned. The global death toll from sugar-laden drinks – ranging from soft drinks to fruit smoothies – has been revealed in a new paper published in the American Heart Association’s Circulation journal.

Most of the deaths are from people who die from diabetes, estimated at some 133,000 a year. Around 45,000 people die each year from heart disease and another 6,450 from cancer, according to the study – which is the first comprehensive assessment of the global deaths attributable to sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs).

Researchers estimating the deaths from diabetes, heart disease, and cancers in 2010 defined SSBs as any sugar-sweetened fizzy drinks, fruit drinks, sweetened iced teas, sports/energy drinks, or homemade sugary drinks. Pure fruit juice was excluded. The study drew on 62 dietary surveys including more than 611,000 people conducted between 1980 and 2010 across 51 countries – representing almost two thirds of the world’s adult population. This information, along with data on the health harms of sugary drinks, enabled researchers to estimate the number of deaths attributable to such beverages

When it comes to the total number of deaths annually, the United States tops the list – with 25,347. But when it comes to the actual death rate, Mexico is top – with 404.5 deaths per million adults. Most of the deaths are concentrated among adults aged 20 to 44 years of age in low and middle income countries, say researchers. Britain has 1,316 deaths a year, with an estimated mortality rate of 30.5 per million adults.

The findings “indicate the need for population based efforts to reduce SSB consumption throughout the world through effective health policies and targeted interventions directed at stemming obesity-related disease,” states the paper. The study was conducted by an international team of researchers from Harvard, Tufts and Washington universities in the US, and Imperial College London in the UK.

“Many countries in the world have a significant number of deaths occurring from a single dietary factor, sugar-sweetened beverages. It should be a global priority to substantially reduce or eliminate sugar-sweetened beverages from the diet,” commented Dr Dariush Mozaffarian, senior author of the study and dean of the Friedman School of Nutrition Science & Policy at Tufts University in Boston.

But responding to the research, Gavin Partington, director general of the British Soft Drinks Association, said: “In no way does this study show that consuming sugar-sweetened beverages causes chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease or cancer.”

He added: “The researchers provide no evidence when they illogically and wrongly take beverage intake calculations from around the globe and allege that those beverages are the cause of deaths which the authors themselves acknowledge are due to chronic disease.”

A MAKURDI High Court presided over by Justice Jennifer Ijohor, has sentenced a 38- year-old housewife, Mrs. Ternenge Tersoor to death by hanging for killing her husband’s second wife’s one-year-old son.

It was gathered that the husband of the convict, Mr. Tersoor had reported her to the police in 2012 that she snatched the baby from her nanny and strangled him to death.

When the case came up, the accused pleaded not guilty and was unremorseful even as she testified for herself and called no witness to support her claim.

Two Teenage Girls Electrocuted While Trying To Take Selfies On Top Of A Train

In May, an 18-year-old Romanian girl died as she tried to take “the ultimate selfie” on top of a train, now these 2 teenage girls are in a serious condition after being electrocuted as they tried to take a selfie on top of a train which they thought was no longer in use.
Russian friends Olesya Belmasova and Anastasiya Kirillova, who are both 16, suffered horrific burns after brushing against a live rail track in the Russian city of Taganrog.

They climbed on it because they thought it no longer worked but the train sat on tracks with thousands of volts running through them.

The friends were spotted by a passing worker, who witnessed the horrifying moment they were electrocuted.
“I was walking towards them to ask them what they were doing when they were suddenly blasted to the ground,” he said.
“One was completely blackened and the other was on fire as if she had exploded.”
The two girls were rushed to a children’s hospital with 70% burns and several fractures.
Anastasia, who can still talk despite the severity of her injuries, said:

“We climbed on top of the tank car and then I heard a loud clap. We fell off the car and onto the ground.

“My hair was on fire and I was in so much pain.”

A police spokesman said:

“They wanted to take some photos from the top of the tank car but were injured by a high-voltage electric current.”

Death Of 38 Illicit Gin Drinkers, Read What Really Happened

Hair raising particulars of how at least 38 residents of Woji and other communities in Obio/Akpo, Bonny and Gokhana Local Government Areas, Rivers State, breathe their last breath, 24-72 hours after drinking suspected toxic locally brewed gin, popularly known as Kai Kai at a dog meat joint have emerged.

Proprietor of dog meat joint, Mr. Friday Dickson, purported to have laced the delicacy with killer- seasoning, hotly denied the allegation. He spoke to Niger Delta Voice at the Woji Police Divisional Headquarters, where he is under custody. Irate youths razed his restaurant, but Dickson, who has been in the business for over a decade, recalled that a man called Chikobi and Chiefo brought the local gin to his restaurant that Sunday allegedly to celebrate his new chieftaincy title.

Curiously, the celebrant did not drink the gin he brought.  The wife of one of the victims corroborated Dickson’s story. The mysterious Chikobi, said to be a Yoruba man from Ogun state, is on the run after the episode but Dickson said he could recognize him if he sees him. There is also a puzzle on how the killer-gin got to Bonny and Gokhana local governments. Chikobi came to Woji but there is no information on who took the gin to aforementioned two local governments.

Except he left Woji for the Bonny and Gokhana after the “celebration of death” or they were other merchants of death. Investigation by Niger Delta Voice revealed that many of the victims expired wrestling with death, vomiting and complaining of abdominal pain. Some lost their vision, cried of chest and waist pains.

Boko Haram Stone Girls To Death, Crush Others With Armoured Tankers To Avert Rescue

Even with the crackle of gunfire signaling rescuers were near, the horrors did not end: Boko Haram fighters stoned captives to death, some girls and women were crushed by an armored car and three died when a land mine exploded as they walked to freedom.

Through tears, smiles and eyes filled with pain, the survivors of months in the hands of the Islamic extremists told their tragic stories to The Associated Press on Sunday, their first day out of the war zone.

“We just have to give praise to God that we are alive, those of us who have survived,” said 27-year-old Lami Musa as she cradled her 5-day-old baby girl.

She was among 275 girls, women and their young children, many bewildered and traumatized, who were getting medical care and being registered a day after making it to safety.

Nigeria’s military said it has freed nearly 700 Boko Haram captives in the past week. It is still unclear if any of them were among the so-called “Chibok girls,” whose mass abduction from their school a year ago sparked outrage worldwide and a campaign for their freedom under the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls.

Musa was in the first group of rescued women and girls to be transported by road over three days to the safety of the Malkohi refugee camp, a dust-blown deserted school set among baobab trees opposite a military barracks on the outskirts of Yola, the capital of northeastern Adamawa state.

You won’t be able to see me walk down the aisle, you won’t see me work up my hustle and take up that job upgrade we always spoke about, you won’t comfort me as life pushes me down. Where are you ooooo??? I want to hug you and tell you I love Again, I want to sit and have olives (you loved them, I hated them but cos of you… I’l eat an entire sack) and sip white wine with the crazy gang catching up on every-every, I want to laugh and smile the way only you could make me!

Joan Rivers Died of Brain Damage Concludes Post Mortem

Comedian Joan Rivers died of brain damage from low blood oxygen, the New York medical examiner’s office has ruled.

Her death was classified as a “therapeutic complication”, meaning it was a known risk of the procedure. Negligence is not suspected and was not listed as a contributing cause.

The medical examiner listed the official cause of death as anoxic encephalopathy due to hypoxic arrest – a condition caused when brain tissue is deprived of oxygen leading to brain damage.

Rivers had been sedated with the anaesthetic propofol during her outpatient procedure examining the back of her throat and vocal cords.
