NAPTIP Quizzes Davido Over Alleged Baby Abduction

23-yr-old pop star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, on Wednesday visited the Lagos State office of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), over the ongoing child rift with his baby mama, Mrs. Sophia Momodu.

According to sources at NAPTIP, Davido reportedly arrived at the agency at 11:07am.

It was learnt that his statement on the face-off over the custody of the relationship between him and the estranged mother of his daughter, Sophia, was taken by NAPTIP.

The whole drama started after Sophia who is a cousin of popular journalist, Dele Momodu, wrote a letter of petition against the musician through her lawyer, Mr. Gbolaga Ajayi.
Ajayi while seeking protection for the rights of his client, petitioned the NAPTIP as the case borders on child abduction and trafficking.

Recall that Davido’s father, Dr. Deji Adeleke and Momodu, paid an earlier visit to the NAPTIP office on Monday for a meeting.

However, Dr. Adeleke was said to have stormed out of the meeting barely 30 minutes after it started.

Davido Produces Result Of Sophia’s Cannabis Test

Embattled artiste, David Adeleke, aka Davido, has released medical papers indicating that his lover, Sophia Momodu, allegedly tested positive for cannabis.

He also released a photo of his seven-month-old child, Imade, having a “breathing exercise”, which he claimed was administered every night to help her lungs “due to exposure to second-hand smoke and cannabis-infected breast milk. Davido threatened to hold Sophia responsible if anything bad happened to Imade.

Sophia had petitioned the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and other related offences, alleging that her daughter was abducted.

The petition, which was signed by her lawyer, Gbolaga Ajayi, of S. O. AJAYI & Co, alleged that the Adeleke family was planning to take Imade from her mother to the United States.

Davido had, however, faulted the claim, saying he was only taking his daughter for medical treatment in Dubai.

He claimed that Sophia infected Imade with cannabis during breastfeeding, adding that the baby’s life was at risk.

The artiste on Sunday released a pathology report from the Clina-Lancet Laboratories, a medical facility on the Victoria Island area of Lagos State.

The report, dated July 12, 2015, indicated that Sophia tested positive for cannabis.

Davido accused her of neglecting their daughter, saying it was the reason the child was taken from her.

He said, “Imade was in her custody for two months, unchallenged and uninterrupted, until the baby took ill in July. Imade cried ceaselessly for 48 hours. She was rushed to the hospital where her condition confounded medical experts. Several tests were conducted on her and later on the mother.

“Medical reports proved that Sophia’s blood was polluted with cannabis and she had, during the process of breastfeeding, infected her child with complicated medical conditions associated with the use of alcohol and cannabis. The trouble spot for Imade was her lungs. She had difficulty breathing largely because of the contaminated breast milk and the severity of the “second-hand smoke” of marijuana inhaled by the poor child.

“The medical experts at the hospital were enraged and declared the mother unfit for nursing the baby. The team determined that they would hand over the baby to the Lagos State Government. My family pleaded with the hospital management. Sophia too was sober and contrite. We pleaded that the baby would be kept from the mother and that we would take over responsibilities for Imade’s welfare.”

Dele Momodu Speaks Up On Davido’s Baby Saga

Dele Momodu on his Instagram page explains his role in Davido’s baby saga. Read his side of the story below:

“In september 2015, I got a call from Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, a long time friend, telling me his son had fathered a baby girl with my cousin, Sophia Momodu. I rejoiced with him as any reasonable soul will do. He apologised that he had not called all along because he wasn’t sure if Sophie’s baby was going to turn out a fake one like that of two others who had turned up at his doorstep.

But mercifully, according to Dr. Adeleke, Sophie’s baby passed the DNA test by over 98 per cent and he was elated. I congratulated him again as proud grandfather. He said he would like to meet me with Sophie since Sophie’s dad, Uncle Jibola Momodu, passed on years ago and Sophie mentioned me as her cousin.

I had known about Sophie’s baby through her first cousin Ruth Abraham and had called to congratulate her. I was happy when she sent me pictures of the baby and other romantic pictures with David Adeleke, aka Davido.

But I never contacted David’s dad deliberately so as not to create the impression of begging for marriage. Where we come from, it is the man who approaches the lady’s family to plead to be allowed to marry into the family.

Prior to this phone call from Dr. Adeleke, on the 11th July, 2015, Sophie had narrated to me how she was tricked to Coco Adeleke’s house with her baby, Imade Aurora Adeleke. After getting to the house on Baderinwa Alabi Street, Lekki Phase I, Lagos, her baby was forcefully taken from her and she was thrown out of the premises with the threat that she would be decisively dealt with if she even bothered to return there.

There were armed policemen in the premises and to avoid what could have been a messy encounter, instinct prevailed on her to make her leave her breast suckling baby behind, with so much pain in her heart. By daybreak on the next day, Sophie was again at Coco Adeleke’s house to take her baby, but she was prevented by armed policemen from gaining access into the house. She was again threatened and warned never to return for the child.

Despite the pain and trauma my cousin was made to undergo, I restrained myself from getting directly involved in the matter and appealed to her to stay calm and take it easy with the Adeleke’s.

But after the phone call from Dr. Adeleke, precisely on September 10, 2015, I picked up Sophie and her mum and drove to Dr. Adeleke’s home in Lekki, Lagos. All the while, I had waited patiently to meet Dr. Adeleke with questions probing for answers.

Dr. Adeleke invited two of his close friends to the meeting namely, His Majesty Oba Adedokun Abolarin and Mr. Wale Adeeyo. We went into lengthy discussions. His daughter Coco had brought in the little baby and both attended the meeting.

Dr. Adeleke explained why it took some time to call me and I said I understood. Dr. Adeleke said the baby was discovered to have traces of marijuana in her during medical test and said he believed Sophie and David were smokers and he needed to protect the child from two irresponsible parents, as he described them.

He told the gathering that the baby would be under temporary custody and observation. He directed that Sophie would come to his house every Sunday to see her baby. Our family agreed. He promised to pay Sophie a monthly upkeep. We thanked him for his kindness. He promised to buy her a car. We were grateful for his generosity.

Sophie said she got the monthly upkeep but never got the car and that she prefers to have her baby back and the Adelekes can keep their money.

I called Dr. Adeleke and he said I should allay her fears. I pleaded again for patience. I was shocked when Sophie called me desperately and said her daughter was being taken to Dubai by Coco. I immediately called Coco and she said she was taking the baby for intensive medicals and I wondered how she would pass through the airport without the consent of Sophie but she actually did and even sent me pictures from Dubai. I played it cool and encouraged Sophie to calm down.

Sophie became withdrawn and extremely saddened. The situation went from bad to worse. She and David became aggressive enemies. At a point, David sent messages to Sophie and using the ‘f’ word against me. His father was shocked and called him to apologise which he did and I accepted and even told him how much I love him.

The worst came when my wife came from London and went with Sophie to check on the baby at Coco’s house and they literally walked them out of their house. My wife called and I called Dr. Adeleke who said they should go to his house and wait for him.

Their meeting did not go well because my wife asked when the baby would be returned to her mum and Dr. Adeleke went into the same old story of marijuana abuse and Sophie said she was ready for a test which Dr. Adeleke wasn’t interested in. Dr. Adeleke explained why the car had not been bought and my wife told him the baby was the issue and not the car. Dr. Adeleke didn’t like the sound of this but it was reaching a point that some truth needed to be told that a baby cannot be bought with money.

I flew to Nigeria on December 28 after Sophie told me the Adelekes were travelling to Dubai with her baby without her consent again. As soon as I landed, I called Uncle Wale Adeeyo, a close confidant of Dr. Adeleke, and expressed our displeasure at the way Sophie was being treated and he promised to speak to Dr. Adeleke. When he came back to me he didn’t sound too positive. We spoke several times and nothing tangible came out of his supposed intervention.

I called Oba Dokun Abolarin but he was busy at a wedding in Ibadan. I then called Uncle Wale again and told him Sophie has plans to stop the trip on the knowledge that David has collected an American passport for the baby and the rumour that the baby was being abducted to America. I pleaded that we should avoid a confrontation.

I headed to the airport to alert the airport authorities including immigration and Emirates. As predicted, the Adelekes arrived the airport with the baby where Immigration had laid in wait for them. Coco came forward and was asked who the mother of the baby was and she claimed ownership and her passport and that of the baby were taken away by immigration.

Her dad was alerted and he came to the office of the Comptroller with others to try and rescue the passports but the Immigration stood their grounds. I saw him making frantic calls but he gave up after the flight departed.

He repeated the same boast that no one could ever take the baby from him and I told him to stop talking like God. No one likes a fight but we’ve been treated shabbily and had to stop the charade. We could not be intimidated and everyone at the airport expressed shock and horror at such a brazen attempt to export a human being only seven month old without the mother.

We thank the officers who rescued us from a powerful family. We are always for peace, justice and equity. No one threatened the Adelekes with any expose unless they are using reversed psychology.

Personally, I’m not a junk writer and would never descend so low to abuse those permanently connected to us through an innocent baby. We love the baby like they do.”

Victor Terhemba: My Thoughts And Opinion On The Wizkid Vs Davido Who Is Better Debate

In 2011, my friend and artiste, Cashkeed, said, after listening to Davido’s first single ‘’Back when’’, that finally somebody has come out that will displace Wizkid from the top. I was skeptical that anybody would be able to that knowing fully how abundantly talented Wizkid is but deep down inside of me I hoped it would happen. Cashkeed has an uncanny knowledge of music that sometimes I don’t doubt him, while I always foresee the future of Nigerian musicians and I rightly predict the outcome of any artiste I take interest in. Luckily, Cashkeed was opportune to meet Davido at an event and they chatted for a while even though Davido’s bodyguards (B-Red, Shina Rambo, Asika, etc) tried to prevent him from talking to the ‘’superstar’’. After the encounter, Cashkeed was full of praise for the young lad and his humility.

In contrast, I’ve met Wizkid several times and at different places before and after becoming a superstar and honestly, I was more than disappointed in this young man’s demeanor. That was almost the same problem I had with Mo’chedah in her her days ( I remember I predicted she won’t last beyond her first album in the music industry and so far she hasn’t proved me wrong).

Personally, I don’t think there is any basis of comparison between Wizkid and Davido because they are both different artistes safe they are young boys making it big in the industry. While Davido is a skilled singer, Wizkid’s talented is naturally bequeathed to him by God. Davido’s musical skill is borne out of his passion and many hours and years of practise. Wizkid is so talented he can suit well just on any beat and genre of music, something Davido cannot do.

I once told a very good friend, Victor Etim and later much to Terry Tha Rapman (now known as T.R), that I doubt very much if Wizkid would ever be able to replicate anything near the success he enjoyed with his first album “super star’’. This is because, while Davido writes his songs or buy songs from others, Wizkid has transited from writing songs to mostly doing freestyles on songs. This, you will often hear him repeat the same lines in a song or same contents in most of his songs and sometimes confuses us about what the theme of the song really is yet fans still love his song (albeit with a short life span), this is something Davido cannot dare do, if he dares, that song will just be a disaster.

When Wizkid first came to limelight he gave the broke guys some sort of hope of getting laid. At least then we could compete with yahoo boys for girls. Wizkid came with swag which all the girls fell in love with and quickly awon boys emulated his swag. Wizkid’s dressing and style was always on point. Whatever Wizkid wore and looks good, boys will quickly go and buy the same. Then girls would love boys who got swag, with swag boys could get laid. Ochuko learnt from wizkid and outsmarted him in sparkling glee. Ochuko could lack money but not girls.

This went on until one David Adeleke a.k.a O.B.O came to the scene and changed the permutations of everything. Because of this boy, girls realized that swag don’t pay bills, he was all about money, Damn!!! That guy can brag about his money and backs it with unnecessary exhibition of his superfluous wealth. Then, we the broke guys started losing our girlfriends to yahoo boys who made easy cash. Even the loyal girlfriends who vowed to stick with you constantly reminded you of the importance of money and if you are not careful you would just wake up one day and find your girl in the comfort of a yahoo boy and nothing you can do about it than sulk and moan.

Nevertheless, that didn’t deter people like me, instead we worked hard to make our money as I now have my own mansion, fleets of exotic cars and unparalleled luxury. It is free to dream right? Let no body wake me from this dream as I am working assiduously hard towards achieving it,

In summary, it is in my own professional opinion that Wizkid is a  better artiste than Davido and if you have followed me so far you would agree with me. But Davido is the bigger artiste between the two. None of Wizkid’s hits is as big as “Dami Duro’’ or ‘’Skelewu’’. Both acts have won all that is within their reach to win both locally and internationally. You don’t have to argue about this, my decision is final!

Eight Amazing Nigerian Music Collaborations That Will Totally Shut Down The Music Industry

Ever wondered what a mash-up of your favourite music stars would sound like when paired up into collaborations? I have too, and that shallow musing finally got me here, on this post about 7 Nigerian collabos that I’m sure… or is it that I know? Okay wait, that I think… yes think, will totally rock. Actually I’m damn too proud of all the names I’ve assembled here and they’ve worked themselves up to this point where they can hone their musical prowess having surpassed those good ol’ days of success in boomlets. Enough talk! Now action.

1. Cynthia Morgan x Burna Boy

Asides my imagination already telling me that this track will be a fire bomb, you also get to find out that reckless cockiness can be made good for things such as this. Who knows better to give dance hall
music a multi-dimensional treatment than Kingston Property‘s Cynthia Morgan in a link-up with Sabi Boy, Oluwaburna? If there ever was a time for Morgan to wear her brazen self and without apology, it would be here and trust Burna Boy to always come through with his vocal swag… in Yoruba pidgin!

2. Burna Boy x Seyi Shay

Can you blame Burna Boy for his shades of awesome? This will be the second of his female features that I am certainly looking forward to. I know Seyi already gave us Murda, but then with this guy? Oh boy, creativity will be reborn as there will be healthy doses of lyrical ingenuity, vocal showoffs and… you know what? Just forgerrit, this will be some kain dripping swag madt stuff! There better be a video too ‘cos I’m definitely not the only one who wants to see how Seyi’s thirst troll will wear perfectly on dear Burna Boy’s hotness.

3. Seyi Shay x Don Jazzy

Ah! This is one collabo that excites me. Ms Shay is one very versatile songstress, proving herself time and time again that no ‘one box’ can hold her. Don Jazzy on the other hand, has shown with positive inputs and results that they don’t call him a don for trivial fun. These two are skilled to relish, and diversely so too but their vantage point would be that studio where they decide to lock horns and unleash some circus magic acts from their oga and madam Sabinus. Wow, I think I just might have found the title of their track!

4. Don Jazzy x Pasuma

Did you just laugh out loud? Well think again. Since trying his hands on hip-hop/pop influenced songs, Pasuma raised the stakes in his game and has excelled to particular delight. All the talented fuji-pop star needs now is to hook-up with producer extraordinaire, Don Jazzy and create an epic evergreen sound in the pop/high life genre that bridges musical frenzies in the South West and Eastern ethnicity… of course with the Doroboss lending his signature baritone tenor.

5. Flavour x Yemi Alade

Can you think of anybody else’s song that sends you into a dancing fiesta like Flavour’s and Yemi Alade’s? Hey, stop thinking! This synergy will help to sharpen creative ideas like danceathons, which all them rap competes have almost succeeded in stifling out. From energetic synchronizations to locomotive gyration and impeccable vocal skills, Flavour and Yemi are a perfect par and they sure need to remind us again how well we should celebrate the proudly African heritage.

6. Asa x Timi Dakolo

Okay, I think we’ve played around enough for a bit. Time to get some serious bi’ness done. Individually, these soul music legends are worth more in calibers than my riveting writer skill can do them any fitting justice. With these two, music always has a meaning and their synergy owes us a classic piece with a never-before-heard sensation, the kind that reorients our minds. If they choose to keep it on a low, then you know that they’re launching into the deepest of deeps and if it’s way up, they’re reaching for the bluest skies. Please go figure!

7. Reekado Banks x Wizkid

I forgive all of you that compared my dear Reeky Tom Tom to Daddy Bolu. Although their artistry may share quite some similarities but thank the stars that they sound nothing alike. Yes, they actually don’t. The other similarity they share would be that they’re small men who are crazy in love for really big things. And because they’re consistent with pro-balling at their turf, it’s become a wonder what their hit banger would sound like. No stressing, it’ll obviously be about a Salewa and her massive ‘baka’ but I’d love to hear it still.

And finally, I would be smoking skunk if I didn’t list these two…

8. Davido x Wizkid

This is pretty much the biggest and most anticipated collaboration of the Nigerian music industry. I dare say! Some of us even live for things as such to happen. I also think all the parties involved have come into knowledge of the blossoming effect of it’s happenstance, which further explains why they’ve let us remain in limbo land. Having said, Wizkid and Davido can either continue to form like they’re cool with beholding the presence of each other or they could just get in a studio booth and literally give themselves an acid bath with all the hydrochloride stored in the barrels of their hearts. Now, that’s something I wouldn’t mind living for!

Oya, as is our tradition, you guys should tell me those collabos you’ve dreamed of that you know will totally rock. Who’s going first?

Auto-tune & Booty Culture- Dinah Adams

Tv screens are experiencing the massive influx and dominance of bare buttocks. Most times, music videos appear to be seemingly incomplete without those random flashes of buttocks.

badgass

Now do you recall times when a girl mistakenly swings her legs apart in public? Yes, that alone will rain down all the insults from the elderly in your entire community. Point being that, we were not even tolerated  to swing those legs apart, even if we were wearing trousers and it became like a taboo to swing open your legs apart in public.

But as time changes, technology revolutionalized; cloths changed too. Things that are worn inside as draws are not just worn publicly, but recorded for further references. The sole aim of entertainment has been taken over by all sorts of obscenity that were once things that can only be done behind closed doors. And suddenly, girls now consider becoming video vixens “professionally” and it is being justified theatrically as a “stage” thing. Please, let’s leave the noble discipline of theater out of this.

These videos are just evidences of how we have easily absorbed lewdness and have no regard, whatsoever for decent cultural norms. Or maybe this assumption is wrong, but then what other excuse do we have for lyrics that only make emphasis on words and phrases like, “yarnsh”, “give it to me”, “whine”, “shake that”, “smack that”, etc. Or have we exhausted all that is left of morals and cannot sing anything else aside jargons or they have ran out of ideas enough to not figure out something else aside twerking?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with twerking, but there is everything wrong with shuddering your barely covered behind like a jelly on public media outlets. The music industry has been turned into a public toilet where auto-tune can fine tune weed baked voices as long as they can rhythmically follow a beat with obscene words.

Growing up, some of us listened to inspiring songs with videos that carried morally inspired storylines and the worst we ever heard was “baby” but today….

Sex may sell, but it can equally offend the buyer you are trying to persuade. At least, Dr. Sid’s “Surulere” and Davido’s “Aye” proved otherwise.
