Opinion: Who is corrupt- Magu, Daura, or all of the above? – By Peregrino Brimah

It can’t be none of the above. It’s either Lawal Daura is right and EFCC boss Ibrahim Magu is a corrupt man, or Daura is corruptly accusing Magu of corruption in order to jeopardise the corruption war. Or both of them are corrupt.

So as more Nigerians slowly become wailers, I throw this question to the reader: A, B, or C?

While we painfully entertain ourselves with the dogfight going on among Buhari’s agency bosses, one can draw certain conclusions without pretending to know more than is in public domain.

One. Magu lives in opulence. He lives in a N20 million a year upscale mansion in Maitama. That’s about $66,000 on rent alone, furnishing not included. Is this corruption? I guess it depends. Two. Magu did not investigate his good friend Air Commodore Mohammed Umar for corruption till the DSS decided to. Three. Magu keeps federal documents in his home, which is risky and illegal. All these issues are in the DSS report and have been confirmed by PremiumTimes.

For those of us who have not focused on Magu, and refuse to quiz why numerous known corrupt cabal rogues remain free of EFCC jaws while the Sarakis including his wife and select PDP men get the finger from the department; we witnessed one story that was clearly a misuse and abuse of power: the arrest and detention of blogger Abu Sidiqu for non-economic and financial crimes.

When it comes to SSS boss Daura, it is scary to imagine or confirm as it may be that he may be so corrupt and vindictive to even top Buhari appointees. While at least half appears true, if just half of the case against Magu is untrue then a Security department boss who can do so to a known public agency boss can do unthinkable things to ruling party opponents and people like Nnamdi Kanu, Dasuki, Zakzaky and all other known and unknown Toms, Dicks and Harrys.

A corrupt public official is a grave danger not to himself but to the entire nation. And being appointees and not elected officials like the despised Senate, every extra day corrupt appointees remain in power, Buhari is party to the corruption and is corrupt. Buratai’s Dubai millions, Abba Kyari’s cases, Lawal Babachir’s IDP green grass case and Dambazzau’s cases as well as the CBN and FIRS nepotism cases and the CBN forex subsidy to the cabal case are still on the table or do we say, not on Buhari’s table.

The precipitant question obviously is: does Buhari lack care or capacity?

Are you wailing yet?

SR: Pressure Mounts On BBC Not To Air Aisha Buhari’s Explosive Interview.

The BBC Hausa Service is under intense pressure from President Muhammadu Buhari and members of his kitchen cabinet to pre-empt broadcast of the interview granted by his wife, Aisha Buhari.

The interview is due for broadcast on Saturday, but the President is said to have reached out to his wife, who is currently in London, to stop granting further interviews to the media.

In excerpts that have been widely reported in the media, Mrs. Buhari is quoted as saying that the President had ditched those who really worked for his victory in the 2015 election and is instead focusing on those that didn’t participate.

The First Lady was expressing frustration with members of President Buhari’s kitchen cabinet, particularly his nephew, Mamman Daura; and his powerful chief of Staff, Abba Kyari. They are widely-held as having shunted aside those who worked tirelessly for President Buhari to come to power.

She also said the President did not know a majority of his ministers before appointing them to office.
SaharaReporters has also learnt that neither Daura and Kyari voted for Buhari in the last election. A source knowledgeable about the inner situation at the Presidency said neither man possesses a voter’s card or is registered as a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Mrs. Buhari and other members of the APC are frustrated with the President because he has refused to make the changes expected of his government, and continues to empower his nephew to run roughshod on issues of governance. Mr. Daura is reportedly so powerful that Buhari’s ministers have to get his approval to get funds released for their projects.

Our sources gave the example of Daura’s influence when the Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, got funds released to him for the Rio Olympics 2016 after he met and received the blessing of Mr. Daura.

Also recently, President Buhari promised several persons who complained to him about the corrupt elements in his government of plans to make changes, but he never did. Of particular importance are Mr. Kyari and the Secretary to the Government, Babachir Lawal, who are accused of corrupt practices. Also involved is Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele, on account of his handling of fiscal issues.

President Buhari has disappointed many in his handling of these and other officers, and his wife of 25 years seems to be leading a revolt by voicing the concern of a majority of the president’s loyalists who feel he has mismanaged the country and the goodwill that followed him into office a year and a half ago. “What I am afraid for them is the rebellion of 15 million people,” says Mrs. Buhari at the end of the excerpt available to the public.

Buhari donates N250k, 10 rams to corps members in Daura for Sallah

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday addressed some NYSC Corps members serving in Daura Local Government Area who were at the President’s residence to pay a Sallah homage to him.

NAN reports that Buhari donated N250,000 and 10 rams to the corps members to celebrate the Eid el-Kabir.

Addressing the corps members, the President said the National Youths Service Corps(NYSC) is still a veritable tool of enhancing unity and peace among Nigerians.

He said that the scheme was an opportunity for them to understand the culture of their host communities by interacting with them.

The President urged the corps members to put more efforts toward discharging their primary responsibilities.

He assured them that the Federal Government would do everything possible to enhance the scheme and boost the corps members’ morale to ensure effective service delivery.

The President commended the corps members for contributing their quota to the nation building.

Why Reps Exchanged Blows During Plenary- Daura

The All Progressives Congress member in the House of Representatives, Nasiru Sani Zangon Daura, representing Zango/Baure Federal Constituency of Katsina State, has issued a press statement on the physical battle that ensued in the Green Chamber during plenary on Thursday.

At the plenary, the tension and divided interest among the legislators led to a brawl between the two factions in the chamber.

The statement reads, “We are here on behalf of our colleagues of the APC House Caucus to explain to you the unfortunate occurrence during today’s plenary session.

“The action that occurred inside the chamber of the House of Representatives was in reaction to the illegal and unconstitutional action taken by Speaker Yakubu Dogara of the House of Representatives, an action in his usual tradition of total disregard to the wishes of the majority members of the APC Caucus, the Party itself and the spirit of the Party.

“We are aware of a letter sent by our Party, APC, dated 23rd June 2015, conveying the approval of the party’s principal officers vis a vis the APC House Leader, the APC Chief Whip, the APC Deputy House Leader and the APC Deputy Chief Whip for the House of Representatives.

“This letter by the Party is in compliance with the expressed wish and mandate of the Majority Members of the APC Caucus in the House of Representatives.

“This action of the party and the APC House Caucus is in compliance with the Nigerian Constitution, the House rules and parliamentary tradition, practices and precedents in Nigeria and all over the World.

“But to our surprise and in breach of our privilege and rights as contained in the Constitution and extant House Rules, Mr. Speaker refused to read the letter from our party.

“The Speaker and Deputy Speaker are not Party Principal Officers but are House of Representatives Presiding Officers and by precedent and practice are expected to provide a level playing ground for all members, while the Party Principal Officers are supposed to be the main advocates for their individual party positions.

“The Speaker and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives are elected by all members of the House of Representatives irrespective of party affiliation and it is also possible under our extant rules for a Speaker and his Deputy to be elected from a minority/opposition party in the National Assembly.

“Therefore, Speaker Yakubu Dogara of the House of Representatives cannot under extant laws and House rules appoint, choose, select, dictate or even provide guidance on how Party Principal Officers emerge or are elected or selected. That responsibility and authority lies with each Party and Party’s Caucus members in the House.

“If I may ask, is Speaker Yakubu Dogara empowered to do that for the PDP House Caucus?

“This action by Speaker Yakubu Dogara cannot and will not be allowed to stand as it will set a dangerous precedent in our parliamentary practice as it will give the Speaker the right and authority to appoint, choose, select, dictate or even provide guidance on how Principal Officers emerge or are elected or selected by the Majority and Minority Parties in the House of Representatives. This action is capable of truncating our democracy.

“As for the claim being made that a particular zone should not be allowed to produce more than one Principal Officer, we say this with all sense of decorum, that this claim is absolute rubbish.

“Precedences were set in the 6th & 7th Assemblies where a single zone, the North-West, produced two and three Principal Officers, respectively.

“We, the loyal and disciplined majority APC Caucus in the House of Representatives are fully committed in ensuring that our party’s and President Muhammadu Buhari’s manifesto, agenda and positions prevail despite the efforts and shenanigans of the opposition party(s) and the few disloyal and undisciplined APC party members in the House of Representatives.

“We are determined in our efforts to utilise all legislative strategies available to us, so as to ensure the compliance with due process and democratic norms and values.

“We shall persevere, come rain come shine!

“We the loyal and disciplined majority APC Caucus in the House of Representatives and the All Progressives Congress have dished out enough of the carrots, it’s time to crack the whip so as to ensure party discipline and maintain order.

“Dare I say, we rode to power on the platform of the party, the party is supreme and thus no one is above the party.

“God Bless the All Progressives Congress.

“God Bless The House of Representatives.

“God Bless Nigeria.

“Thank You for listening.”
