FG Approves Immigration Regulations To Check Terrorism

The Minister of Interior, Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), has approved a new set of immigration regulations.

According to him, the approval would help the Federal Government monitor and check the movement of terrorists through Nigerian borders.

The Minister pointed out that the 80-section regulation would enhance protection against cross border crimes.

The executive approval was witnessed by diplomats and top government officials on Monday in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

Upon application, the new 2017 regulation approved the issuance of visa on arrival in Nigeria, enforcement of an Immigration Register and temporary work permit among others.

Kaduna crisis: True religious leaders don’t fan embers of hate – Dambazau

The federal government has warned opinion and religious leaders to refrain from giving religious connotation to the crisis between herdsmen and farmers in Southern Kaduna.  ?

Abdulrahman  Dambazau, minister of interior, gave the warning in Abuja on Tuesday.

He said it became expedient ???following insinuations that the violence in the region had religious interpretation.

Dambazau said some people were always looking for ways to further create division along religious or ethnic fault lines for their selfish interest.

“True religious leaders do not? fan the embers of hate, but ensure that communities live in peace and harmony,” read a statement issued on his behalf by Ehisienmen Osaigbovo, his press secretary.?

Dambazau said those who perpetrate violence against innocent, law-abiding citizens do not discriminate along religious and ethnic lines, citing examples of how Communities in Zamfara, Katsina, Taraba, Enugu, Lagos and Niger were attacked by “violent criminals”.

“A criminal should be treated as such, whether he is involved in armed robbery, drug trafficking, homicides or cattle rustling,” he said.

“People should avoid honouring criminals with religious or ethnic attachment.” ?

He advised religious leaders to focus on the real enemies of our society, who illegally acquire weapons to terrorise Christians and Muslims communities alike.

Dambazau said he had directed the Nigerian ?police to ensure the sustenance of law and order, and to arrest and prosecute anyone involved in criminal activities in the area and across the country.

He ?urged citizens to cooperate with the police by providing information in its quest to restore normalcy to the troubled communities.

Dambazau assured Nigerians of government’s commitment to tackling the root causes of similar crisis in all parts of the country.

Different religious groups have traded blames over the crisis in the region.

#NigeriaImmigration2000: “Reinstate Us”, Expelled Recruits Cry Out For Help.

Months after application, selection, and training of new immigration recruits, 2000 of them are still in a confused state in regards to their position in an ongoing recruitment crisis.

Documents obtained by Omojuwa.com correspondent revealed that 2000 of these new recruits are being dispersed by the Ministry of Interior on the basis of illegality. It is quite worrisome that the same ministry that facilitated the training of the new recruits in a swift and surprising move turned around to rule them illegal.

While majority of the affected recruits have taken to social media to show their grievances, the ministry reiterates its position by not making any move to address the situation.

Despite calling the new recruits illegal, exclusive documents obtained by Omojuwa.com clearly shows that they all underwent a proper screening/training exercise carried out by the immigration service under the ministry of interior. This present situation poses a huge question which no one is answering; “Where does the illegality come in?”

A dangerous trend is being set and of course will have it’s own negative effects.

Months back, there was a secret recruitment scandal that rocked the Central Bank of Nigeria, Federal Inland Revenue Services and Nigerian National Petroleum Company. These antecedents is fueling a suspicion that this latest development is as a result of a new recruitment racketeering plan as the ministry is yet to give a tenable reason for the laying off.

The hashtag #NigeriaImmigration2000 is already trending on Social Media Platforms demanding not only explanations to the ill-advised decision of the ministry of interior but also a reinstatement of the sent off recruits.

If truly the immigration service needs 25, 000 recruits to effective man our borders, this fact begs the question; “why then are we laying off 2000 recruits especially when they have gone through examinations and training?

The demand is clear cut and simple; FG should reverse the decision to disperse these 2000 trained immigration recruits. In a country that has a high population of unemployed youths, such decisions will have not just destructive but catastrophic effects on the nation.

Jailbreaks: Officials Will Be Sanctioned – Dambazau

The Federal Government has threatened to sanction prison officers found culpable in cases of jailbreaks.

It warned that officers involved in negligence, dereliction of duty and absenteeism would be severely punished.

Minister of Interior, Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), who gave the warning during a meeting with senior prison service officers at the Nigeria Prisons Service headquarters in Abuja yesterday, admitted that most of the prisons were weak structures of 100 years.

Dambazau, who noted with regrets last Saturday’s jailbreak at Koton-Karfe Prison, Kogi State, in which 13 inmates escaped and the escape of two detainees at Kuje Prison, Abuja, in June, said that there were certain precautions and routines prison officials could take to prevent jailbreaks.

He said: “We don’t want such incidences to repeat again. Those who are comptrollers, take time to go round your prisons. Don’t sit in your office. The prison is very important in the justice system. Take your jobs very seriously. This is something that the administration will not tolerate. You have to be up and doing.

Meanwhile, the Comptroller-General, who disclosed that seven of the escapee prisoners from the Koton-Karfe Prisons have been re-arrested, said: “We are still searching and we are hoping to get all of them back.

“For every escape that occurs, there must be one thing or the other that the prison officers have not done and that comes to negligence of duty. For that case, there was also negligence.

“But in addition, as the minister has said, it is also a structure problem we and people in that prison hope to address.

I inherited that structural problem and I intend to solve it this year, and to the subsequent budgets so that the entire buildings within the prisons system in Nigeria will change henceforth so that those structural problems will be addressed.

In another development, the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has called on the Federal Government to relocate the prison in Kaduna, which is located in the heart of the city, away from urban areas in view of security threats.

El-Rufai, who stated this when the minister visited him in his office, pledged his support to the various paramilitary agencies in the state, noting that the state enjoys co-operation from them.
