Wike Expresses Support For ‘Operation Crocodile Smile’

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared his support for the Operation Crocodile Smile by the Nigerian Army, saying that he will do everything to ensure peace and security in the Niger Delta.

Governor Wike spoke on Monday when he granted audience to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai and Senior Army Officers at the Government House, Port Harcourt.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai explained that the Operation Crocodile Smile was introduced to train army personnel on the techniques of operating in the Niger Delta.

The governor said: “The Rivers State Government is fully in support of the Operation Crocodile Smile. I was fully briefed by the Brigade Commander and we associate ourselves with the programme because it will make the Niger Delta safer.

“One of the advantages of the programme is that hoodlums in the creeks are being uprooted for a safer Niger Delta. I support the programme insofar as it is done with the constitution “.

According to the governor, the Rivers State Government will sustain its support for security agencies to create the right atmosphere for democratic governance.

He said that the State Government has procured 6 New Armoured Personnel Carriers for the Police and in the process of concluding the acquisition of 10 gunboats for the Nigerian Navy.

Earlier, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai said that the Operation Crocodile Smile will ensure that the security challenges in the Niger Delta are addressed and peace enhanced.

He said: “The Operation Crocodile Smile is an exercise to train our troops on amphibious operations “.

The Army Chief said that the exercise seeks to provide the civil authorities with the right environment to carry out governance.

He said the exercise will ensure that the troops are professional with the required training to conduct operations within the law.

He said: “Our waters are generally porous. The Nigerian Army has amphibious capabilities in conjunction with the Nigerian Navy to carry out limited operations within the creeks”.

General Buratai added that another aspect of the Operation Crocodile Smile will witness the Army intervening in critical areas of need for the communities. He said that the Army has already embarked on medical outreach in Bille (Rivers State) and Nembe (Bayelsa State).

Crocodile Takes Woman During Night Swim

A woman is feared dead after being seized by a crocodile during a night-time swim with a friend at a beach in northern Australia, with reports that she yelled “A croc’s got me!” before disappearing.

The women went for a stroll on Thornton Beach on Sunday evening in the far north of Queensland state before making a fateful decision to take a dip in an area known to be infested with the reptiles.

“The woman was swimming with a female friend, also in her 40s, at 10.30pm when the incident occurred,” police said in a statement.

Nine News cited witnesses as hearing the woman yell “A croc’s got me, a croc’s got me!”

Senior Constable Russell Parker said the women — Australians visiting the area — were in the water when one of them was grabbed, with her friend desperately trying to drag her to safety.

“They decided to take a swim in the ocean just in waist-deep water and at that point, we believe that a crocodile has taken one of the women, taken hold of her,” he told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

“Her friend tried valiantly to drag her to the shore but unfortunately wasn’t able to do so and the woman subsequently disappeared.

“Now her friend raised the alarm with a nearby business and they subsequently contacted the police.”

A rescue helicopter was sent up with thermal imaging equipment but was unable to find her. Marine police also failed to do so when the search resumed on Monday.

Parker added that the surviving woman was “very, very shaken and shocked” but appeared to have escaped with only grazes.

Man Puts Giant Crocodile In Pothole After Officials Refused To Fix It

Lwkmd……..A visual artist from Bangalore in India named Baadal Nanjundaswamy came up with a way of getting noticed by the local authorities, and it seems to have worked.

Last Thursday, he created a fake reptile costing £60 and placed it in the 12-foot long pothole which was formed around a month ago when a water pipe burst at Bangalore’s busy Sultanpalya traffic junction.

Although Baadal and others had made complaints, nothing was done, but it’s been reported that, after his stunt with the fake reptile, the pothole was filled the next day.

Baadal did something similar last year when he painted a pothole as the mouth of the Hindu God of death Yama to alert authorities to the danger.
He explained: “Last time it attracted the attention of BBMP [Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike] officials and the man hole was closed within a day.

“Everyone has the potential to express themselves in his or her own way. This is my way of communicating a grievance.”
In England, an artist in Bury painted huge penises around potholes in May to get them dealt with.

Nigeria needs this guy.
