ICPC Probes Amaechi, Kwankwaso, Chime, Shema

The independent Corrupt Practices and other offences Commission (ICPC) has commenced investigations of four former governors following petition against them.

The four governors are former governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers, Sullivan Chime of Enugu, Ibrahim Shema of Katsina and Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano.

Already four teams have been raised to visit the states to check the books of the states to establish the allegations against the governors.

Retrace Your Steps, Enugu Elders To Chime

Some Enugu elders coming under the umbrella of Enugu State Development Association, ESDA, have urged Governor Sullivan Chime to retrace certain steps recently taken by him that are propelling the State House of Assembly to carry out their impeachment plot against him. They said the steps need to be taken for peace to reign in the state.

In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Chief Adonys Igwe, ESDA described some actions of the governor like the request to borrow N11 billion from a commercial bank less than 25 days to the end of his administration, unlawful allocation of plots of land at the Conference Centre, alleged move to sell the Water Corporation among others, as worrisome.

The elders recalled that it had earlier given the Governor three months within which to back down on some of his actions which negated the protection of rights and interests of the state or face court action.

Protest In Enugu Over Planned Impeachment Of Gov. Chime

Hundreds of protesters have flooded the Enugu government house, kicking against the planned impeachment of Governor Sullivan Chime by members of the State’s House of Assembly.

Fifteen members of the House of Assembly, led by the speaker, Hon. Eugene Odo, had on Monday directed the clerk to serve Chime the impeachment notice.

However, reports gather that hundreds of members of the Peoples Democratic Party, especially women and youths, have taken over the Government House, calling on the lawmakers to drop the plan.

Enugu Lawmakers Serve Chime Impeachment Notice

Members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Monday morning commenced impeachment proceedings against Governor Sullivan Chime of the State.

Fourteen lawmakers, led by the Speaker, Hon. Eugene Odo sat early this morning where they read a notice of impeachment against Chime.

However, eight other lawmakers have voided the process and also allegedly impeached the Speaker, Hon. Odo. He was replaced by Hon. Chinedu Nwamba representing Nsukka East constituency.
