According to a Facebook user, Enemuo Nneka, who shared the photos on her page, the child’s mum poured hot water on her hand in an attempt to stop her from sucking her finger.

Nneka claimed that she snapped the pictures of the little child by herself in the presence of the girl’s grandmother.

Nneka’s message read;

“What a mother did to her daughter all because she wants to stop her from sucking her finger. Is DAT not madness of d highest order? People should pls desist from listening to advice of enemies dat pretend to be friends. Hearts of man d bible said is desperately wicked. U don’t know if she harbors ill-feelings for u yet pretends to be a gud friend. It was her friend DAT advised her to do such. Now see d result.”

Organisation Records 50 Cases Of Child Sexual Offences

The Child Protection Network (CPN) on Wednesday said it recorded and handled 50 reported cases of sexual offences against children in Plateau since January.

The CPN State Coordinator, Mr Tony Obemeasor, disclosed this at a workshop organised for stakeholders on “CPN Reporting Procedures on Violence Against Children (VAC)”
in Jos.

Obemeasor said the Plateau Government provided funding for the 50 cases of child sexual offences to ensure appropriate action was taken.

He added that “we got assistance from the office of the secretary to the state government to follow up 50 cases reported from January till date.

“The funds were used to train case officers currently assigned to families on case management.

“The cases are being managed in collaboration with the state’s Ministry of Justice to ensure all cases currently undertaken by CPN come to a logical conclusion.

“Of these 50 cases, 10 were assigned to five case workers with each handling two cases each.

“In the new year, we expect to take over 20 more cases after conducting the second phase of training for the case management officers.”

The CPN coordinator said the objective of the workshop was to work with key stakeholders, brainstorm and produce an appropriate VAC reporting procedure.

He said the key stakeholders included the Police, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), medical personnel, the state’s Ministry of Justice, as well as the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.

Obemeasor added that the objective of the workshop was to develop a plan for a way forward to avert child sexual cases or any form of child-related offences through appropriate and coordinated reporting pattern.

He said the plan would be forwarded to the ministry for women affairs for proactive action to avert the menace.

In his remarks, Mr Stephen Dewan, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) official, said it was apparent there was no interdepartmental synergy for reports to be sent to the accurate channel for appropriate action.

Dewan, who is the NYSC Assistant Director for Planning, Research and Statistics in Plateau, said that the Corps was a viable tool that could easily be mobilised for sensitisation and advocacy purposes.

He explained that the NYSC was looking forward to collaborating with CPN for a robust awareness campaign on child abuse and sexual harassment.

Mr Gwamfa Kannap, the Director, Child Welfare of the Ministry for Women Affairs and Social Development, said that the collaboration with Civil Society Organisations, the CPN and NGOs to monitor activities was important.

Kannap said the workshop would bridge the gap and ensure clear record of data of such cases for appropriate action.

JSS III dropout impersonates doctor, performs operation, kills mum, baby.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 32-year-old Nonlonfun Celestine, a Junior Secondary School dropout for allegedly parading himself as medical doctor.

The suspect was paraded on Monday in Lagos by the state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni.

The father of two met his waterloo when he conducted a surgery on a pregnant woman who died alongside her baby.

The family of the deceased, who were angered by the death of their daughter and grandchild, wrote a petition to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba to investigate the sudden death of the woman and her child.

They said they suspected foul play.

When police operatives stormed the clinic, it was discovered that the suspect, who hails from Badagry in Lagos State, had been parading himself as a medical doctor with fake certificates.

Investigations revealed that the University of Ibadan Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery certificate, certificate of annual practicing license from the Medical and Dental Association of Nigeria and the Certificate of Registration of Business from the Corporate Affairs Commission, with which he had registered his hospital, were all fake.

Celestine said he was enrolled in an auxiliary nursing school in Benin Republic before returning to Nigeria.

Celestine said: “I am from Lagos State but my mother is from Benin Republic. I lived with my mother for over 18 years over there and it was in the country I graduated with a certificate of nursing and returned to join my father in Nigeria in 2004. I started selling drugs at Badagry but later moved to Tomaro in Apapa area where I started a clinic and taking care of the sick within the community.

“The pregnant woman was brought to the clinic by her husband and her brother at about 4am on November, 12. She was convulsing seriously. I administered first aid treatment but she didn’t get better. About four hours later, I called her husband to take her to another hospital for proper medical assistance, but he begged me to continue trying my best because he didn’t have enough money to take her.

“He gave me N8,000 to continue with the treatment and left and came back at about 8pm. I carried out a surgery on the woman and she gave birth to a baby boy who died almost immediately he was delivered?

“Two hours after, the mother also died. I called the husband who was at the waiting room and gave him the news. He was bitter about it. He however came with his family member to take her remains and the dead baby for burial.

“I learnt the woman was buried the following day. I was surprised when some men came to my clinic to look for me. When I stepped out of my office to see who the person was, it was then I discovered they were police officers.

“The policemen then told me they had received a petition about my illegal operation of a hospital in the area by the community leaders and I was arrested.

“unfortunately for me, when I was about taking money from my drawer to bribe the policemen, my fake medical certificate fell off and the policemen picked it up and asked where I got it from and I told them it wasn’t original that I paid to get it from a friend when I wanted to register my clinic.

“I presented my nursing certificate to the Corporate Affairs Commission for registration of my clinic but they turned it down. So I had to pay N35,000 to a friend to get the fake certificates. I did not kill woman and the baby intentionally.”

Owoseni stated that the suspect would be charged to court after completion of investigation.

Child Cancer Survivor Kills Herself Over Bullying

The relentless bullying became too much to handle for an 11-year-old girl with a “crooked” smile, her mother said.

At 3 years old, Bethany Thompson was diagnosed with a brain tumor and battled through radiation treatments. Though cancer-free since 2008, treatment caused nerve damage that changed Bethany’s smile. That, and her curly hair, led to bullying, said Bethany’s mother, Wendy Feucht.
Feucht said after a particularly tough Wednesday with bullies, Bethany told her best friend she couldn’t take it anymore, and was going to take her own life.
The Cable, Ohio, sixth grader killed herself that afternoon, October 19.
Her friend’s father called Bethany’s mom, but it was too late. Bethany found a gun kept in the house, and shot herself one time, police said.
Her stepfather was asleep in another room.
Feucht said Bethany would have had to go searching for a weapon, as she and her husband never told their children where they were and kept the guns out of sight.
“There’s a piece missing, I’ve had this constant in my life for 12 years and now it’s gone,” Feucht said. “Nothing’s going to be able to fill that hole.”
“She was my princess, that’s my baby girl. Life revolved around her for me,” said Bethany’s dad, Paul Thompson.
Champaign County Sheriff said they’re treating the death as an apparent suicide.
Her family and friends remember Bethany as generous and loving, and full of life. She loved swimming and animals and listening to music.

Child Denoted a Bomb That Killed 51 At Turkish Wedding

More than 50 were killed and 94 injured in a bombing at a wedding in Gaziantep, about 60 miles north of the warn-torn Syrian city of Aleppo.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said a child between ages 12 and 14 detonated a bomb at a wedding late Saturday that killed 51 people and injured 69 others.

Erdogan said the Islamic State was behind the attack during a broadcast by NTV.

The blast occurred in the city of Gaziantep, about 60 miles north of the war-torn Syrian city of Aleppo. More than 200 people were packed into a street in the district of Sahinbey for the Kurdish wedding when the explosion occurred around 11 p.m.

He said the suicide bomber also was believed to have killed two policemenin the city.

Erdogan in a statement before his television appearance said there is “no difference” between the IS, which is based in neighboring Syria, the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party and Fetullah Terrorist Organization, founded by U.S.-based cleric Fethullah Gulen, state-run Anadolu Agency reported Sunday.

He has accused Gulen of being behind the recent coup.

“Those, who cannot overcome Turkey and try to provoke people by abusing ethnic and sectarian sensitiveness will not prevail,” he said.

Prime Minister Binali Yildirim vowed renewed fighting against terrorist groups. “No matter what this treacherous terror organization is called, we as the people, the state and the government will pursue our determined struggle against it,” he said.

The United States condemned the killing in the “strongest possible terms.”

“The perpetrators of this barbaric act cynically and cowardly targeted a wedding, killing dozens and leaving scores wounded,” National Security Council spokesman Ned Price said in a statement. “We stand with the people of Turkey as they defend their democracy in the face of all forms of terrorism.”

Vice President Joe Biden will visit Ankara on Wednesday “to reaffirm our commitment to work together with Turkey, our valued NATO Ally and partner, to confront the scourge of terrorism,” according to the statement.

Witnesses described the mayhem.

“We had just walked past the wedding and offered our good wishes when we heard the blast,” Ibrahim Ates, a local man, told The New York Times.“Suddenly people started running past us. When we went back to see what had happened, everyone was on the floor, and there were body parts scattered everywhere and blood splattered on the walls.”

Mahmut Togrul, a lawmaker with the Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party, said the the bride and groom, Besna and Nurettin Akdogan, survived the attack and are in stable condition,” Togrul said.

“Many of the victims that died were children,” he added.

Police found parts of a suicide vest in the area where the blast took place, the Gaziantep chief prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

“Everyone here is devastated. We can’t even carry out the funerals because the bodies are in pieces. They are struggling to identify the victims,” Hilmi Karaca, a Kurdish activist who witnessed the explosion, told The New York Times.

On July 15, at least 240 people were killed in a failed coup aimed at topping the government of Erdogan.

On June 28, IS militants are suspected of storming Istanbul’s main airport with guns and bombs, killing at least 44 people.

Lions Kill Child Led Into Their Enclosure By Wildlife Worker

South African police are investigating allegations of culpable homicide against a park worker who is reported to have led a 12-year-old orphan into a lion enclosure.

Nkalemelo Latha was killed after being savaged by the lions at the Otavi Wildlife Sanctuary in Parys, Free State province, The Times reported.

The worker, whose name was given as “Rasta” is alleged to have stolen a set of keys, opened the enclosure and led the boy inside.

Staff at the park heard screaming and rushed to the child’s aid. One drove a pickup truck into the enclosure to chase the two white lions away.

But it was to no avail. The child was found lying unconscious on the ground having been bitten on his head and neck; he died shortly afterwards.

Rasta, who worked at the park for six months, is reported to have told the police that he tried to get help after the lioness attacked the boy and he was also mauled.

“I can’t understand why this man decided to steal the keys to get into the enclosure,” said Ina Human, the park manager.

Breast Feeding Week: Malnutrition Behind Half Of All Child Deaths

Civil Society Scaling-Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN) says malnutrition is  responsible for one in every two death of children aged less than five years in Nigeria.

Sunday Okonkwo,  programme manager for CS-SUNN, made the observation at the commemoration of this year’s World Breastfeeding Week in Abuja tagged “Breastfeeding, A key to sustainable development”.

He said the key message of the breast feeding week is to “raise awareness on issues that affect children.

CS-SUNN leads advocacy for a coalition, Partnership for Advocacy Child and Family Health (PACFaH) which pushes for better nutrition for children .

“If you look at the issue of malnutrition you will find out that Malnutrition is responsible for every 1 in 2 under five year child death in Nigeria,” said Okoronkwo.

The National Demographic and Health Survey shows 37 per cent of children under age five are too short for their age, 29 per cent underweight and 18 per cent too thin for their age or wasted.

But the National Strategic Plan of Action on Nutrition (NSPAN) 2014-2019, which  provides a comprehensive and multi-sector approach to tackling the problem of malnutrition, is yet to be implemented.

“The NSPAN is a key document to scale up of nutrition in Nigeria, if implemented.  We appeal to the governments to provide budgetary allocation for its implementation in the 2017 budget, with emphasis on child and adolescent nutrition and timely release of funds,” said Okoronkwo.

He added that if the NSPAN is fully implemented it  will reduce up to about 20 percent malnutrition death by 2019.

UNICEF Nigeria, Nutrition Advocacy Specialist, Zakaria Fusheini, said, “As a country we have policies, so we need to ensure that these policies  are implemented to the letter and also to ensure that within the first 1000 days of life for children which start from conception  up to 2 years, children have all the nutrients that they need to grow optimally.”

The push is exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, and complementary feeding from six months onward.

Zakaria added that there is a need to reach out to mothers who are in the rural areas who don’t have access to such information.

UNICEF Raises Alarm Over Number Of Child Suicide Bombers

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has raised alarm over the increase in the number of children involved in suicide attacks in some West African countries.

The agency described those involved in the attacks as victims deceived into the act.

This is contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja and signed by UNICEF Regional Director for West/Central Africa, Mr Manuel Fontaine.

According to the statement, the affected countries are Nigeria, Chad, Cameroun and Niger with majority of them as females.

“The number of children involved in suicide attacks in Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger has risen sharply over the past years, from four in 2014 to 44 in 2015.

“More than 75 per cent of the children involved in the attacks were girls.

“These children are victims, not perpetrators, who are being deceived and forced to carry out deadly acts of violence in Nigeria and in neighbouring countries,” it said.

In the data released by UNICEF in the statement, Cameroon recorded the highest number of suicide attacks involving 21 children, followed by Nigeria with 17 children and Chad two between January 2014 and February 2016.

It added that the frequency of all suicide bombings increased from 32 in 2014 to 151 in 2015.

According to the statement, in 2015, 89 of the attacks were carried out in Nigeria, 39 in Cameroon, 16 in Chad and seven in Niger.

It added that the calculated use of children coerced into carrying bombs had created an atmosphere of fear and suspicion.

The statement said it had devastating consequences for girls who had survived captivity and sexual violence by Boko Haram in Northeast Nigeria.

In addition, it said children who escaped from or were released by armed groups were often seen as potential security threats.

“Children born as a result of sexual violence also encounter stigma and discrimination in their villages, host communities, and in camps for internally displaced persons.’

“As suicide attacks involving children become common place, some communities are starting to see children as threats to their safety.
“This suspicion towards children can have destructive consequences,” it said.

The statement, however, said UNICEF was partnering with communities affected by terrorism and insecurity to fight stigmatisation against children, survivors of violence towards better environment.

See The Amazing Transformation Of The Abandoned “Witchcraft” Baby

Some weeks back the internet was buzzing  about a Danish national in Akwa Ibom state who had taken it upon herself to rescue children accused of witchcraft and abandoned by their families. To refresh your memories.

Story has it that Hope, the boy being fed water in the picture by the Danish woman, an humanitarian aid-worker named Miss Anja Ringgren, was left for dead on the streets by his family, who accused him of witchcraft.

Hope survivied on the streets for eight months, feeding on scraps thrown at him by passers by.

Fortunately, on January 31, Hope was rescued by Loven, who discovered him naked, emaciated, and wandering the streets with his body riddled with worms.

Miss Anja, who has a Nigerian partner with whom she has a son, took Hope to the hospital where he was given a thorough bath. Thereafter Hope was treated of the worms and given blood transfusion to replenish his obviously depleted red blood cells.

Already, Miss Anja who runs a children orphanage, has received donations to the tune of $1 million from donors from around the world after asking the community for fund to settle Hope’s medical bills.

She’s hoping to build a hospital for neglected children like Hope and giving them best of treatment.

See more photos after the cut of the amazing transformation of baby Hope since his timely rescue by a kind hearted human being,.

However, months later in 2013, he posted a picture of himself with his son, Boluwatife Balogun, with the caption: “hey, the child’s mine guys, I’m done hiding him [from] you all.”

However, he kept the child a secret from fans again!

Not only has he not seen his son yet, but he hasn’t shown much interest in being a father and Binta wants that to change! Binta says that she just wants him to step up and be a man about his responsibilities.

Russian Plane Crash: Toddler’s Body Is Discovered 20 Miles From Crash Site

Ten-month-old Darina Gromova (pictured just before boarding the doomed flight) had been on holiday in Sharm el-Sheikh with her parents Tatiana, 26, and Alexei, 27, from St Petersburg when they, and 221 others, died shortly after their flight to Russia took off on Saturday.

The baby girl’s body was located more than 21 miles from the main crash site, indicating that the plane may exploded earlier than aviation experts have previously thought. That has forced investigators to widen the search area – and could lead to the discovery of otherwise missed clues.
The picture of little Darina, taken by her 26-year-old mother Tatiana at a St Petersburg airport shortly before they set off for Egypt, has become a symbol of the 224 victims of the disaster.
Mrs Gromova happily dubbed her daughter ‘the main passenger’ as the young family set off on a hard-earned vacation to Sharm el-Sheikh.

The remains of little Darina were sent to Cairo on Thursday after being found miles from the main crash site in the Sinai Peninsula.

Her parents Tatiana and Alexei Gromov, aged 26 and 27 and pictured on their wedding day just over a year ago, have yet to be found
Russian experts say no signs of explosives have been found on the bodies of the victims of the plane crash, but a Russian aviation official said Thursday the investigation was looking into the possibility of an object stowed on board causing the disaster

‘There are two versions now under consideration: something stowed inside (the plane) and a technical fault. But the airplane could not just break apart in the air – there should be some action. A rocket is unlikely as there are no signs of that,’ the Russian official said.

Meanwhile, ISIS representatives have repeated its claims that the militant jihadist organisation was responsible for the crash, adding it would eventually tell the world how it carried out the attack.

Toddler Dies After Eating Poisoned Rice In Lagos

There was confusion in the Ijora Badia area of Lagos State when a two-year-old boy, Ibrahim, died after eating a plate of rice suspected to have been poisoned.

The food was prepared by his mother, Fatimoh Azeez. Fatimoh, however, said the food was eaten by other members of her family who were not hurt, adding that she suspected that one of her sisters-in-law, Fatimoh Rasaki, who had visited her on the day of the incident, had a hand in the death of the child.

Fatimoh Azeez used to visit her boyfriend, Isa, regularly in his parents’ apartment on Olajide Street
in the Ijora community. She was said to have become pregnant for him and was later delivered of the boy.

The lovebirds were reportedly cohabiting in the house when Fatimoh’s parents took her and the baby away to their house on Akosile Street.

Isa was reportedly allowed to visit both mother and child.

On one of such visits, Isa had a disagreement with his mother-in-law, which escalated into a fight with his girlfriend. Fatimoh Azeez’s family reportedly stopped him from visiting the child.

His sisters, Fatimoh Rasaki and Latifah Musbau, both married with children, were said to be visiting Fatimoh Azeez’s family on the fateful Sunday to mediate in the couple’s dispute, when the child died.

Fatimoh, in her statement to the police, said she was washing some clothes at the back of the house when she saw Rasaki spoon-feeding her child, which made her upset because she feared he could be poisoned. She said:

“After I gave birth to my child, my husband’s people started maltreating me and sent me out of the house. I decided to stay with my parents.
“On August 16, around 11am, I was washing clothes when I saw my two sisters-in-law coming into the house to meet my parents. I saw as Fatimoh (Rasaki) carried my child and began to feed him with rice. I quickly rushed there and grabbed him from her and strapped him to my back.

After some time, I put him on the bed. Suddenly, he started shaking uncontrollably. I rushed him to a hospital, where the doctor said he had died. I was the one who prepared the rice and it was eaten by all members of my family.”

PUNCH Metro learnt that the two sisters-in-law, upon hearing the news, rushed to the house.

They were said to have been arrested by the policemen from the Ijora Badia division, before the case was transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba.

Musbau, a tailor, however, denied having anything to do with the death of the child.

She said the visit was at the instance of their late father, who pleaded with them to resolve the dispute between the two families. She said:

“It was when Fatimoh became pregnant that we knew she and Isa had been dating. She stayed with my mother and gave birth to the child, before her parents took her away.

After that, Isa started going to visit the boy. But one day, he had a disagreement with his mother-in-law. His girlfriend also started harassing him anywhere she spotted him. We warned him to stop visiting them. And he stopped.”

She said their father, who had been ill, appealed to them on his death bed to make peace with Fatimoh’s parents and bring the child back home.

Rasaki told PUNCH Metro that they decided to go for a truce visitation on the fateful Sunday.

She continued:

“When we arrived at Fatimoh’s parents’ house, it was only her mother that was around. We also saw three kids eating rice in different plates. We did not know which of them Ibrahim was. Her mother started abusing us, saying she would deal with us for all we made her daughter go through.

She was still talking when her daughter suddenly barged into the room, carried the child and strapped her to her back. She then stormed out of the room. Later, her father arrived and we broke the news of our father’s death to him. He condoled with us and said the dispute would soon be settled.”

She said later, Fatimoh’s mother came and broke the news of the child’s death to them.

“She said the boy had died and left the house without saying another word. We all rushed to their house and saw the corpse of the boy. It was while condoling with the family that the police came and arrested us,” she added.

A police source said the police were investigating a possible case of food poisoning.

“It is still not clear what killed the child. But we are suspecting food poisoning. The remaining food eaten by the boy has already been packed for a test and we are awaiting the autopsy report. Once there is a problem with the food, the women will have a case to answer,” he said.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Patricia Amadin, when contacted on the incident, promised to get back. But she had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.

Ciara Fires Back At Future For Slamming Russell’s Relationship With Their Son

Ciara has reacted to Future dissing her for letting her new man, Russell Wilson take care of their son. She told CBS:

It’s been very interesting to hear what a lot of guys have had to say,’ ‘I feel like in a sense it’s a bit of a double standard, because at one point in time when we were together, I took care of his kids as well – at a very young time in our relationship.”I was involved very early in the stage of us getting to know each other,’ she said.

Future had said earlier:‘If I was a kid, and my momma had some dude pushing me, I would’ve jumped out the stroller and slapped the sh*t out of him.’

Man Develops App To Discipline Children

Want your child to learn to finally clean up after herself, stop pushing people, or sit down in class? There’s an app for that. Seriously.

A Culver City, Calif., dad, Kevin Spiteri, created the Behavior World app, a positive-reinforcement tool for parents, teachers, and kids, released July 22 — with his Helping Hand Systems business partner, Bryan Saavedra — as a way to help Kevin’s son, Kyle, now 9, who was having a difficult time after Kevin split with Kyle’s mom in 2010.

“The divorce was very tough, on all of us,” Kevin tells Yahoo Parenting. “Kyle started struggling with his behavior in preschool. He was always a superactive kid, but he began doing things like pulling hair and not listening at all, and he kept being sent home.” As occupational therapists who work with children with and without special needs, Kevin and Saavedra (also a dad) know a thing or two about helping kids. But easing this difficult family transition for the boy was proving tough.

“I went as far as paying someone to be with him during the day at school, to make it through the day and not be disruptive to the class,” Kevin says. “I was willing to do anything to help him.”

When Kyle got to kindergarten, Kevin says his boy continued to act out. “There was a period of time when I tried everything to get his behavior under control,” says the single father. “I took away things. I punished him. I was desperate to try to help him gain control over his behavior, and nothing was working. It wasn’t until I used positive reinforcement that I started seeing a lasting change.”

The most effective way that Kevin says he helped his son adjust his attitude was through a Candy Land-style game he came up with one day, jotted out on a poster with colored squares and the promise of a reward after progressing 10 spots on the chart documenting good behavior. “Kyle wanted this toy that shoots marshmallows,” says Kevin. “So I took a picture of him with it in the store, put that photo at the end of the chart, and worked with his teacher to put a happy-face sticker on his school sheet when he kept his hands to himself and listened well, which advanced him on the board.” It worked, and Kyle got his toy.

Man Kills 41-Day Old Baby Just To Divorce Wife

A 41-day-old baby, Zainab Olajide, has died after she was allegedly poisoned by her father, Kazeem Olajide, in a desperate attempt to divorce his wife. The incident happened at about 7am on Friday at Toluwalase Estate, Ijoko-Abule, in the Lemode area of Ogun State.

Punch Metro learnt that the mother, Abosede Ogundare, had left Zainab with Kazeem to sweep the compound only to come back and met the baby with foams gushing out from her mouth. It was learnt that Ogundare alerted neighbours to the incident having found a bottle containing pesticide with her husband. Continue…

Zainab was said to have been rushed to a hospital in the community, where she eventually died.

Our correspondent learnt that the suspect, who hails from Abeokuta, Ogun State, attempted to flee, but was held by residents, while the landlord of the house reported the case to the monarch of the community, Oba Solomon Sokunbi.

Punch Metro gathered that the father was handed over to policemen at the Agbado Police Division after he confessed to the crime before the monarch.

The couple’s residence was locked up when our correspondent visited the community on Tuesday.

A resident, who identified himself only as Biodun, said Kazeem had been threatening to divorce his wife before the baby’s untimely death.

He said, “He doesn’t love the woman and has been trying to divorce her. He poisoned the innocent baby to actualise his mission. They recently moved to this estate. She was their only child.”

The landlord of the house, who did not want his name in print, said the suspect had denied being Zainab’s father prior to the incident.

He said, “Three days before the incident, Kazeem (Olajide) was looking for a pair of his slippers. When he did not find it on time, he started raining curses. I called him by his daughter’s name, and tried to caution him, but he warned me not to call him by her name again. It was when the incident happened that I realised he might have intentionally killed the child.”

Sokunbi, the Oba of Ijoko-Lemode, said Kazeem owned up to the act, claiming that he was pushed by the devil. He said he had been following the case to ensure that the suspect was brought to justice.

He said, “It was the landlord who came to report the case to me and I directed my chiefs to bring him and the wife to the palace. I asked the husband and he confessed. He said it was the handiwork of the devil.

“I called the police from the Agbado Police Division to arrest him. They said he had been transferred to the state command headquarters. I have been following the case. This is a pure murder case and I want the police to duly prosecute the suspect and let him face the law.”

The monarch added that Kazeem’s wife told him in the presence of his chiefs that she saw the bottle with him two days before the incident.

He said, “The woman thought the bottle contained herbs. She said she left the child with him to sweep the compound, only to return and met Zainab gasping and foaming in the mouth. She said she smelled pesticide in the baby’s mouth.”

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that the case had been transferred to the command headquarters, adding that Zainab’s remains had been deposited in a mortuary.

Adejobi said, “The corpse of the baby has been deposited in a mortuary. The case has been transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation for further investigation.

“We have the suspect with us and he is going to be properly investigated. He and others found culpable in the course of our investigation will be charged to court.”

6 Weeks Old Baby Suffocates To Death While Sleeping In Between His Parents

A 6-week-old baby named Noah Pearson (pictured above), suffocated to death in his sleep after being deprived of oxygen while sleeping in between his parent in bed at their home in Bradford, in West Yorkshire.

According to the UK Telegraph, Noah’s parents, Paul Pearson 24 and Emily Lambert 22, had left him with his grandmother while they went out with friends for drinks for the first time in a year. They returned at about 3.30am the following day drunk but still took their baby from the grandmother…

Noah’s father took him into their room to sleep in his Moses basket which was placed by his side of their bed. But when Noah started to cry around 5am, his father took him from the Moses basket and brought him into the bed he shared with his partner and placed him between them.

When the couple woke up at about 8.50am, they found blood coming out from Noah’s nostrils. He was immediately taken to the Bradford Royal hospital where test showed he died from Sudden Infant Death syndrome after being deprived of oxygen.

At an inquest, a doctor warned of the dangers of parents sleeping with their babies as a coroner said a contributary factor in Noah’s death on May 31 was “co-sleeping and parental alcohol consumption”.

Consultant paediatrician Dr Eduardo Moya told the hearing that the parents’ decision to co-sleep with their baby and having consumed alcohol that night may have contributed to their baby’s death. He said baby Noah was found to have a minor rhino virus, akin to a nose cold.

Dr Moya said:

“The not deliberate and unfortunate set of circumstances is well-documented – bed sharing with parents combined with alcohol consumption. Furthermore one or both of the parents did smoke and that could be a contributory factor as that baby had a rhino viral infection. There are a series of risk factors that increase the likelihood of having SIDS. One reason bed sharing is considered dangerous is that one parents could roll on to the infant in the middle of the night.”

“This was a tragedy and there is nobody as fault but I believe it is important to know the etymology of SIDS. These are contributory factors because we don’t know the ultimate cause of SIDS. I pass my condolences on to the family. It was clear to me when I went to see them that nobody did anything wrong or deliberate. It was an unfortunate tragedy.”

The Gift Called ‘My Mother’ – Yomi Balogun

Too many get along with life forgetting one huge force that helped them get into it in the first place – the mother. Yes, we were created by God but someone kept us safe in their own body, carrying us along for some 9 months, that is a lot of sacrifice to start with. Imagine the weight especially for those of us that came already bearing so much weight. Our mothers deserve our love, not because of the fact that it is often the cool thing to do but mostly because they earned it right from our conception. I appreciate the fathers and all but come on, in most cases, our mothers are the ones stepping out for us when push comes to shove. Spare a thought for your mum’s sacrifices over the years. I personally remember how my mum will go, “Yomi, whatever you do, never forget your source.” And just when I thought she meant herself, she said, “God is your source. I was only a vessel”.  I love my mum. I love my dad too. So, when last did you speak to your mum? Now is not a bad time to make that call. You can even call both of them. For those who have lost theirs, I pray their souls continue to rest in peace. God keep all that they left behind. It’s gonna be a better day. Cheers to our mothers.
