Catholic Church Bishops Beg Forgiveness From Paedophilia Victims

French bishops pleaded for forgiveness Monday for the “guilty silence” of the Catholic Church following months of damaging revelations over the sexual abuse of children by priests. The church has been rocked by allegations that the Archbishop of Lyon, Philippe Barbarin, covered up the abuse of scouts and failed to remove a priest despite being aware he had sexually abused the boys a quarter of a century ago.

The scandal was the worst to hit the Church in France since 2001, when a bishop was given a three-month suspended jail sentence for failing to inform authorities about a paedophile priest.

Barbarin, who has protested his innocence, remains in his post, but the scandal has tarnished the image of one of the church’s most media-friendly figures.

Archbishop of Paris Andre Vingt-Trois told worshippers at a “time for prayer and penitence” during the bishops’ autumn conference in the southwestern pilgrimage town of Lourdes on Monday that the Church had failed in its duty to victims of abuse.

“We lacked mercy… we did not listen to these victims in the way that they expected us to (and) we lacked the courage to take the measures that were needed,” the archbishop said.

We Didn’t Beg You To Negotiate Kanu’s Release, IPOD Tells MEND

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) said the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) did not have its mandate to negotiate the release of Mr. Nnamdi Kanu and other members.
IPOB described the purported negotiation between MEND and the Federal Government as a “kangaroo agreement and a jamboree.”
A statement from the Media and Publicity Secretary of IPOB, Mr. Emma Powerful said the group only accepted the unconditional release of its leaders, insisting that  only Kanu can negotiate on behalf of the group.
The group vowed not to renounce the struggle for the restoration of Biafra state.
“IPOB under Mazi Nnamdi Kanu did not send MEND to negotiate for the release of our leader Kanu and other members in detention with him. It is unfortunate on the part of MEND to negotiate for the release our leader without the full knowledge of the organization.
“We the members of the indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) worldwide and people of Biafra can never accept any release of our leader and other members detained alongside with him because he did not commit any crime, we can only accept the unconditional release of our leader, nothing more and nothing less,” IPOB stated.
The group continued: “MEND is a group which does not know what it is looking for and who decided to stay and use the plights of their people to make demand from the  Federal Government, everybody knows that and Nnamdi Kanu is not the type who will sabotage the people of Biafra.
“Therefore, any group or individual that wants to use the struggle for Biafra to make money or to sabotage the independent state of Biafra will die with serious pains around him or her because this is God’s project which no human being can stop because it is a spirit that hovers around”.

Tell EFCC To Leave Tompolo Alone, Ex-militants Beg Buhari

Former Niger Delta militants, weekend, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to prevail on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to leave ex-militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, alone and follow the rule of law in its dealings with him. The erstwhile agitators, who met under the auspices of the Transformed Niger Delta Ex-militants Forum, asserted that some persons, who were envious of Tompolo, wrote a petition against him to the EFCC, but advised that the commission in the discharge of its duties should respect the rule of law.

In a communiqué signed by its national president, Meshach Bebenimibo and others, they said, “We appeal to the President as a matter of urgency to instruct the EFCC to follow due process within 1999 Constitution as amended.” At the meeting held in Warri were Prince Bebenimibo, Bayelsa , Edo, Cross River, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Ondo coordinators of the group, Peter Ayeebide, Austin Peremobowei, Korebor Minama, Anthony Youbai, Oluwah Michael and Oloye Tamarayende.

They said: “We want EFCC to leave Tompolo alone because the petitioners are acting out of jealousy to indict and incarcerate him, that is why they are lying to the whole world that Tompolo sold the land for the building of Nigerian Maritime University, NMU, Okerenkoko.”

According to the communiqué, “The petitioners know the truth and the truth is that Tompolo only sold the International Diving Institute buildings at Kurutie community and the place was sand filled before he built the school. Among the structures are lecture halls, multipurpose pavilion, administrative block, vice- chancellor’s lodge and hostels for male and female students.”

“The previous government brought valuers and did all necessary legal things and collected VAT money before paying him about 90 per cent as agreed.

“We also urge EFCC to have a rethink and defreeze Mieka and GlobalWest accounts.” The group, however, commended President Buhari for his interest in the region, particularly the inclusion of fund for the Amnesty programme in the 2016 Budget presented to the National Assembly, saying, “We really appreciate your kind gesture.”

Suspended Comptroller-General, Gov. Lalong At Aso Rock To Beg Buhari

Plateau State governor Simon Lalong yesterday took his kinsman and suspended comptroller-general of the Nigerian Immigration Service, David Parradang, to Aso Villa to plead with President Muhammadu Buhari.

Parradang was last Friday suspended from office indefinitely over allegations of illegal recruitment exercise and the porous state of the Immigration Service.

Governor Lalong, who came to the presidential villa alongside Parradang, proceeded straight to the president’s office while the suspended NIS stayed behind. Parradang who waited at a reception room directly opposite the Council Chambers, tried as much as possible to keep his presence unnoticed.

As soon Governor Lalong stepped out of President Buhari’s office, Parradang came out the waiting room and joined him, but retreated immediately he noticed that the governor was ready to grant audience to journalists.

Lalong, however, admitted that he discussed Parradang’s suspension with the president.

He said, “I came to see the president on some issues affecting my state. I feel comfortable with the response I got and that is why I am smiling.

“I told him (Buhari) what we are doing on insecurity in our state. Also, we discussed the prevailing issue of the suspension of the comptroller-general of Immigration who incidentally is from my state. When you have issues like this in a political period, you must find ways of looking for reasons. If anything affects any part of your body, you must show concern.”

State Of Economy: We Will Beg Nigerians For Patience- Buhari

President-elect, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has said that he is currently at a loss on how best to tell Nigerians that his promise of turning the economy around quickly upon assumption of office on May 29 may not be feasible after all.

Buhari premised his fear on the perception that the economy has been battered by the outgoing government of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.

This was even as governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, said empty treasuries may be awaiting them in their respective states.

The governors cried out that most state governments had gone bankrupt and, therefore, cannot pay workers’ salaries.

Dismissed Ex-UN Peacekeepers Beg Buhari For Reinstatement

Some ex-Nigerian soldiers, who served in the United Nations Mission in Liberia, have called on the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, to review their compulsory retirement and reinstate them.

Some of the ex-soldiers were those retired for allegedly participating in mutiny after staging a protest in Akure over non-payment of their entitlements by the authorities of the Nigerian Army, spoke to our correspondent in Osogbo on the telephone on Sunday.

The former UN peacekeepers staged a protest in Akure in 2008 when their entitlements including their savings were not paid on their return from the peacekeeping operation in Liberia.

One of the soldiers, Yomi Ibukun, who was a lance corporal before they were sacked, said that it was not appropriate to render young male and female soldiers, who had been trained to handle guns, jobless.

Ibukun said three of the ex-UN soldiers given compulsory retirement; Paul Maikudi (corporal); Pascal Stephen (lance corporal) and Kabiru Mohammed (private) had died.

Another ex-soldier, Abass Salisu, who was a corporal, said that all of them were young and their skills were still needed by the military.

He lamented the alleged injustice done to them, saying the victims of the injustice would be grateful if they could be reinstated.

Ibukun said, “We thank God that Gen. Buhari eventually won the presidential election. The President-elect is a former military officer and he would appreciate our case if it is brought before him.

“We are appealing to him to correct the injustice done to 27 of us. Some senior officers refused to pay us our entitlements during our operations in Liberia and they sentenced us to life imprisonment after the protest.

“The sentence was commuted to seven years imprisonment before we were freed but later compulsorily retired.

“It is sad because while those of us whose entitlements were stolen were punished and retired, the officers who stole our money suffered loss of ranks temporarily but they had since been restored to their old ranks.”

Musa Salisu, who was a corporal before he was compulsory retired, said the authorities paid part of the entitlements which led to the protest and had refused to pay the balance despite the punishment meted out to them.

Pastor Behind CAN N7 Billion Bribe Story Begs- Oritsajefor’s wife

Helen Oritsejafor, fondly called Mama Helen Oritsejafor, is a co-pastor of the Word of Life Bible Church, Warri in Delta State, has revealed that the pastor behind the CAN bribe story has begged for forgiveness. Below are excerpts of her interview:

There is this controversy that CAN, led by your husband, received, first, N6 billion and later, N7 billion, from the Presidency to campaign for GEJ’s re-election. What was your initial reaction?

It’s quite laughable. The challenge we have in this country is that we are not people of thinkers, and it’s quite unfortunate. And that’s the reason some of these people keep playing on our intelligence. If we are people of thinkers, it would be very difficult for them to do so. A thing like that never happened to start with. It’s what propelled it that I think I will like to address.

The whole essence was to create division amongst Christians. Strike the shepherd and the sheep will scatter. Suddenly, Christians are now the ones that everyone believes that in order for them to win an election, they must have our support, for the first time in the history of our nation; instead of people to play it right and bring down their manifesto.

When they are unable to do that, what they now chose to do is to discredit the leadership hoping to be able to leverage through that by securing a portion of our Christians to be in support of what they are trying to do, which is extremely sad because what that tells me is that they must be the ones doing it and they also think that others will have to do same as well.

And since they could not get the leadership of Christians, the question will be who tried to bribe the leadership of CAN to sway their votes two years ago and how much was it they offered the leadership of CAN? And at the end of the day, the leadership of CAN stood up and walked away from such the meeting because the question then was all we just needed you to do is to de-marry this man and we will give you this and this man walked out of the meeting.

And that’s why since then they have been going after him because they believe he is a man that cannot be bribed. He is a man that is very passionate about everything he is doing. And because they know that, they are doing their very best to see how they can malign him and give him a bad name. They’ve done everything to set him up.

I thank God no one has been able to come out and say that he was caught in the house of XYZ. Everything you see is to come up with different stories to give him a bad name. But it’s too late now. The reason I say it’s too late now is because we have Nigerians who are smart enough to read between the lines knowing fully well that something is evidently wrong here.

The question is, are you going to vote someone to power who has done everything to rubbish your faith and to rubbish what you believe by going under the leadership to cast aspersion on it, or are you going to support someone who is upholding your tenets? It’s an easy question.

It’s just like someone telling you that your parents are bad but the children are good. The same yardstick used in caning your parents will be used in caning you too. If you are a true child of those parents, you will know that whosever can wag his hands on your parents can also do same to you and you will never pay attention.

Ivorians Begged Me To Miss Penalty, Says Muhammed

Flying Eagles skipper, Musa Muhammed said Cote d’Ivoire players begged him to throw away his second-half penalty in Saturday’s final AYC Group A match in Mbour.

The penalty goal, the third by the right fullback at Senegal 2015, drew the Flying Eagles level at 2-2 and eventually eliminated the Ivorians from the tournament. “The players including the goalkeeper begged me to miss the penalty, saying we are all champions and we should play for each other,” Musa revealed.

“But I remained focused and professional to score the penalty and earn us a draw, which was a sweet revenge for the two losses we suffered at the hands of the Ivorian U-17 team two years ago in Morocco. Most of the players from that tournament were also here in Senegal.”

No More Threats As Ex Militants Beg Nigerians To Vote For Jonathan

In a remarkable change of tone, ex-militant leaders from the Niger Delta zone who had threatened mayhem if President Goodluck Jonathan was defeated in the forthcoming presidential election, yesterday pleaded with Nigerians to vote to re-elect the incumbent president. They suggested that Mr. Jonathan be returned to office based on what they described as the noticeable achievements of his administration, noting that the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) had waged a campaign of hate against the president.

Speaking as members of the Leadership, Peace and Cultural Development Initiatives (LPCDI), the ex-militant figures stated that, though the media campaign against President Jonathan was filled with hatred and deceit, the Nigerian voters should support the president’s re-election based on the achievements of his administration in the areas of education, power, infrastructural development and security.

The ex-militants issued their new toned-down endorsement of Mr. Jonathan at the end of a meeting presided over by the group’s national coordinator, Reuben Wilson, popularly known as General Pastor Reuben. The meeting was held yesterday in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State. The group called on voters to focus on Mr. Jonathan’s performance instead of the rhetoric of hate against his administration.

Briefing reporters on the outcome of their meeting, Mr. Wilson said, “we resolved to call on Nigerians, particularly eligible voters, to rate the candidates for the presidential election based on performance and eligibility. President Goodluck Jonathan has done well and he should be voted in by Nigerians for [a] second term. They should assess him based on performance and not the region he comes from.”

“I have Passed the Stage of Begging Anybody”, Aliyu Denies Begging IBB…

Governor Bababgida Aliyu of Niger State has denied media reports that he begged former military president,General Ibrahim Babangida, to convince his deputy, Ahmed Musa Ibeto and others who recently defected to the APC, to return to the PDP.

Speaking while playing host yesterday to the Federation of Advocates for Fair, Credible and Peaceful Elections led by Alhaji Tanko Yakassai in Minna, Aliyu said it was not unusual to see politicians decamping during electioneering periods, adding that those who defected had the right to do so.

“They said I went to IBB over those who defected. I have passed the stage of begging anybody. Every politician is free to decide on which party he wants to belong to. Let me however plead that nobody should victimize anybody for the political decision they made.
