APC Ready For Rescheduled Bayelsa Poll — Sylva

The governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, and former governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva, says he is ready and willing to compete against Governor Seriake Dickson at any electoral contest.

Sylva, who boasted that he would emerge victorious, accused the incumbent, Dickson, of engaging in underhand tactics to win.

The APC candidate, through the Director, Media and Publicity, Sylva-Igiri Campaign Organisation, Chief Nathan Egba, said that it was for this reason that the party protested the alleged illegal cancellation of the Southern Ijaw council election.

He said: “It is for this reason that the APC vehemently protested the illegal cancellation of the Southern Ijaw election results which clearly would have put us well ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. But with all the stakeholders having agreed on a new date, the Sylva- Igiri Campaign Organisation is poised to galvanise our support-base in order to repeat the feat we performed in Southern Ijaw council and some other polling units across six local government areas.

“Our strength is in the fact that majority of the people of Southern Ijaw council are with us and are still committed to standing by us through this whole process in order to eventually celebrate a hard-won victory.”

Police Ready For Bayelsa Poll With 14,000 More Officers

To beef up security as the Bayelsa governorship election holds on Saturday, the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, has deployed no fewer than an additional 14, 000 policemen in the state.

Besides, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned that those without valid Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) would not be allowed to vote. The electoral umpire said it would yesterday hand over 52,000 PVCs to the Bayelsa State electoral commissioner.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari, has said that Chief Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is the best candidate among those jostling for the Bayelsa State governorship position. He, therefore, urged the people to vote for the former governor in the Saturday’s poll.

PDP, Sylva Trade Words Ahead Of Bayelsa Poll

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bayelsa State chapter, and the Campaign Organization of Timipre Sylva, on Friday attacked each other verbally over the candidacy of the All Progressive Congress (APC) flag bearer for the December 5 governorship election.

Sylva, who emerged the APC candidate, will slug it out with the sole candidate of the PDP and incumbent state Governor, Seriake Dickson.

But the PDP said Sylva is not electable.

The state Secretary of PDP, Keku Godspower, in a statement in Yenagoa on Friday, said the emergence of Sylva was a shame and insult to the collective sensibilities of people of Bayelsa and APC members.

Keku said APC’s decision was an indication that it was not prepared for any serious outing in the election because “everybody in Bayelsa knows that Sylva is not electable.”

He, however, claimed that since Sylva’s emergence, there was palpable fear, tension and apprehension among people of Bayelsa following the violence that marred the recent APC primary in the state.

Keku also alleged that Sylva had a record of violence and that his second coming would not be different.
