Avoid Holding Service In Uncompleted Buildings, CAN To Churches

The national leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has commiserated with the people and government of Akwa Ibom State on the tragedy that occured inside the Reigners Bible Church, Uyo at the weekend which led to the death of several worshippers.

CAN advised churches to avoid holding worship service inside a building under construction to avoid a repeat.

In a statement signed by the General Secretary of the body, Rev Dr Musa Asake, lamented the disaster and tasked every Christian to identify with the victims through prayers, gifts and condolence visits.

The statement reads: “We identify with the victims of the tragedy, we pray for their quick recovery as we are asking God to console and comfort all the bereaved. It is very unfortunate that the devil struck when the whole world is getting ready for the celebration of the Birth of the Saviour, Jesus Christ, who came to destroy the work of the devil.

“We thank God that His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel, who himself narrowly escaped with his life in the tragedy and we welcome his prompt intervention when he said the state government will hold an inquiry to investigate if anyone compromised building standards”.

I Beheaded My Victim To Avoid Running Mad, Arrested Man Confesses

The Police in Abia State have arrested a man, Emmanuel Effiong, who said he beheaded a woman in order to prevent himself from running mad.

Effiong, who pleaded guilty in an interview with newsmen in Aba during his parade by the Abia Commissioner of Police, Mr. Leye Oyebade, said he beheaded the woman in the night and threw her head into the Aba River.

He said a spiritualist had advised him to perform the act as a sacrifice to avert an imminent danger of running mad.

Oyebade also paraded three final-year undergraduates of a tertiary institution, who admitted that they were members of a six-man gang which allegedly dispossessed somebody of a Toyota Highlander Jeep in Umuahia on October 10.

One of the suspects, Chimezie Chukwu, 24, told newsmen that the gang specialised in car-snatching and that the incident, which led to their arrest, was his third experience.

Besides the Highlander, a Mercedes Benz with registration number AG 467 NEM was also recovered from the suspects.

Other items recovered are one AK-47 rifle with two magazines containing 31 rounds of live ammunition and one locally-made revolver pistol with four rounds of live ammunition, among others.

Oyebade, who expressed concerns over the rising cases of crime and criminality in Abia involving undergraduates, restated the commitment of the command to check the phenomenon.

6 Dating Mistakes To Avoid When In A New Relationship

1. Don’t overdo or rush it

New relationships can cause you to get in over your head: All you want to do is spend all your time with your partner and give up everything else in your life — friends, hobbies, family, your dog, etc. New relationships are intoxicating, and you should by all means enjoy every minute of it. However, don’t take it too far — while it’s fun to lose yourself in your new S.O., you become in danger of losing yourself. Find a balance, because at the end of the day, there’s no rush.

2. Don’t hold back

A new relationship is scary, especially when it comes to revealing your true self to another person. What if they don’t accept you for who you are? New relationships are an exquisite dance of baring our emotions and vulnerabilities to another person who we don’t know incredibly well but really care about. If you share too much, maybe they’ll see something they don’t like or find attractive, and then reject you. However, sharing too little is just as big of a dating mistake. You partner will be able to sense this. We’re all afraid at the beginning of a new relationship, but you should step up and be the brave one.

3. Enough with the games

You’re in a relationship now. You don’t have to play games; you’re past that stage (although you should never really play games, they’re foolish). Maybe you’ll hold off on calling or texting back, and if something upsets you, you’ll back away and not talk about it. If you do any of these things, you’re doing a great job at potentially sabotaging your relationship. Communication is the key to any successful relationship, and learning how to communicate with your S.O. is one of the best things you can do.

4. Be yourself

Remember, you are your own person and should not change who you are because you think it’s expected of you or it’s verbalized that you do so. If that’s the case, you are definitely with the wrong person. Your entire person, including your personality, the way you think and speak, what you wear etc. is specific to you. Do not lose your uniqueness, and do not give up on those wonderful things just to please another person — nor should you expect that of them.

5. Don’t get lazy

Remember how nice and thoughtful you were when you started dating your S.O.? Don’t stop that and don’t get too comfortable too quickly. The fun of a new relationship lies in the fact that you have not settled into a routine just yet. Don’t be so quick to fall into one.

6. Let your crazy rest

We all have weird single behaviors that we engage in that make us feel good. This is not something you should reveal all at once but slowly as time goes on. I’m not saying don’t be yourself but allow the pieces to reveal themselves little by little. These quirks are nothing major, rather things you’re just in the habit of doing.

Avoid The Jonathan Error, Sanusi Warns Buhari

The current Buhari-led administration may end like the Jonathan administration if it fails to retrace its footsteps, the Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi II, has warned.

Sanusi, who was the chairman, Special Session at the 15th Joint Planning Board and National Council on Development Planning, said if the Federal Government toes the way of the last administration, it will end up like it.

He said the economy created terrorism, following the government’s inability to create employment opportunities for the over 80 million youths in the country.

He lamented that the country has not been able to attract investments, saying that the example of Lagos State typifies what Nigeria can achieve.

He warned those he described as “clamouring to break up the country because of oil” to stop the agitation, stressing that oil would soon become insignificant globally.

The emir said, “There is nothing we are facing today that we did not know would happen. We made mistakes, many of them deliberate. We ignored every single warning.

”We should not continue to blame the previous administration, as we have also made some mistakes in the current administration.

“We must retrace our steps; otherwise we may fall into the same trap we fell the last time when the government was always right.

“The bottom line is that if your policy is wrong, it is you that must change.”

U.N. Calls For 48-Hour Ceasefire In Aleppo To Avoid Humanitarian Catastrophe

The U.N. humanitarian chief on Monday urged all combatants in Aleppo to agree to a 48-hour pause to allow delivery of desperately needed aid, warning that otherwise the world risks seeing a “humanitarian catastrophe unparalleled in the over five years of bloodshed” in Syria.

Stephen O’Brien said Aleppo is being bombed every day, including a dozen new attacks on Monday, and has become “the apex of horror” in “the greatest crisis of our time.”

He told the U.N. Security Council, which has been deeply divided over Syria, that “you have the power with a pen — a simple pen stroke — to allow food to people.”

O’Brien said the U.N. asked to deliver aid to nearly 1 million people in besieged and hard-to-reach areas in August, but the Syrian government approved less than 50 percent of the requests, denying aid to rebel-held eastern Aleppo and several other besieged areas.

O’Brien said that not one aid convoy has moved yet due to fighting, insecurity and bureaucratic requirements, and the end of the month is just nine days away.

Russia, a close ally of Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government, said last Thursday it was ready to back the U.N. call for weekly 48-hour cease-fires in Aleppo, provided aid convoys travel to both rebel-controlled and government-controlled parts of the city.

U.S. deputy ambassador Michele Sison reiterated American support for the humanitarian pauses in her speech to the council, saying “it is imperative that all armed groups in Aleppo respect these pauses.” She urged Russia to follow its unilateral declaration “with genuine steps to support regular and sustained access to Aleppo.”

O’Brien welcomed the Russian announcement but also stressed that “we need the agreement of all parties to let us do our job.”

“In Aleppo we risk seeing a humanitarian catastrophe unparalleled in the over five years of bloodshed and carnage in the Syrian conflict,” he said. “Once again, I cannot stress strongly enough the need for a 48-hour pause in fighting to be approved by all sides and come into effect, so that safe and sustained humanitarian access is opened to all areas of Aleppo.”

The U.N. humanitarian chief said he and his office are working with all sides seeking to ensure that the Russian offer can be turned into “a comprehensive pause.”

Rebel-held eastern Aleppo, where up to 275,000 people live, has been almost entirely cut off from vital supplies including food, water, medicine and electricity for over a month, O’Brien said, while access to the estimated 1.5 million people in government-controlled western Aleppo “remains extremely difficult.”

The U.N. has found a new route into western Aleppo and has delivered some aid, and it is preparing 20 trucks to deliver food and other supplies to eastern Aleppo as soon as a cease-fire takes place, he said.

“This is a race against time, as fighting rages on, with ever more shocking reports of bombed hospitals and wrecked schools,” O’Brien said. “Electricity is out, water is scarce, and movement is restricted.”

He repeated his appeals for U.N. action, not just on Aleppo, but to end the war in Syria saying: “When hospital attacks have become the new normal, when medieval sieges of entire cities and neighborhoods have become a lasting reality for hundreds of thousands of people, this council cannot look the other way.”

Russia’s U.N. Ambassador Vitaly Churkin urged all those with influence to spur the opposition to move forward to a political settlement.

“Without that and without effectively combatting terrorism the necessary radical improvement in the humanitarian situation in Syria is impossible,” Churkin said.

Syria’s U.N. Ambassador Bashar Ja’afari agreed, stressing that a political solution must be Syrian-led “without any external preconditions or interference” and must be parallel to “fighting terrorism.”

Unborn Yeezus Is Breach, Kim Kardashian Doing Everything To Avoid C-Section

Kim Kardashian is sharing more about her current pregnancy complications.

The 35-year-old reality star’s latest blog post on her website and app reveals that her baby is breech — meaning he’s in the wrong position for childbirth — and that she’s doing everything she can to try to have a vaginal birth. Kim says she’s started intensive chiropractic work, and lies “awake late at night,” researching.

“I, of course, will try anything to still turn the baby,” she writes, sharing that her baby’s head is still up when it’s supposed to be down. “I lay practically upside down three times a day for 15 minutes. I play music in the right position and ice my belly in certain spots to get him to squirm out of the breech position. I even started acupuncture where I burn moxa (mugwort) on my pinky toe every day! I am even attempting hypnosis!”

Kim reveals she will be trying external cephalic version (ECV), a procedure used to turn a baby from a breech position or side-lying position into a head-down position before labor begins. The procedure is usually performed after about 37 weeks, and Kim is entering her 36th week of pregnancy.

” … It looks so painful and scary and has to be done in the hospital,” Kim shares. “Obviously, if it’s an emergency and for the safety of my son, I will get a C-section — but if I don’t need one, I’d rather not.”

Kim admits she’s nervous about her upcoming delivery.

“This whole delivery gives me anxiety, not gonna lie,” she writes. “I hope the baby turns and all goes well but I’m prepared for anything!”

FG To Create $25bn Fund To Avoid Recession – Osinbajo

The federal government is planning to create a $25 billion fund through public and private sector financing with the aim of modernizing infrastructure and avoiding a recession, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo revealed yesterday.

The halving of oil prices since last year has forced Nigeria, Africa’s largest producer of crude, to slash its budget and led to a weakening of its currency, the Naira.

Standard & Poor’s has also downgraded the country’s credit rating, while JP Morgan Chase & Co. removed Nigeria from its local currency emerging market indexes.

“We think that the way out of this, what some have described as an impending recession, is actually to spend rather than to cut back in any way,” Osinbajo, said in an interview in Abuja.

Ekiti Workers Resume Early To Avoid Sanction

Civil servants in Ekiti State yesterday rushed to offices to avoid being sanctioned for lateness.

Their action followed an unscheduled visit by Governor Ayo Fayose to the secretariat on Monday during which he apprehended over 30 workers for lateness.

The civil servants prostrated, knelt down, cried and begged the governor to be merciful, but he directed the Head of Service, Gbenga Faseluka, to begin disciplinary action against them.

Reporters monitored the resumption of workers at offices yesterday and found out that there was 100 per cent compliance with the 8am deadline.

4 Colors You Should Avoid Wearing As A Wedding Guest

Let’s Start With the Obvious
Itching to wear a gorgeous white dress you just purchased? Put it back in your closet ASAP. While it may sound like the number one wedding-guest faux pas that everyone should know, some people forget it or ignore the rule and show up in a pearly white dress.

A Color Close to White
Off-white, beige, champagne, cream, or any other super light color that could be mistaken for white when the lights are dim and the people around you are toasting drink number three.

The Color the Bridesmaids Are Wearing
If you’re close with the bride, ask her for a heads up on what color the bridesmaid dresses are. That way, you won’t look like you’re trying to be a third-wheel to the wedding party by wearing a different style mint green dress than the other girls in the bridal party.

Glitter, Glitter, Glitter Everywhere
Save the sparkles for the bachelorette party or another Saturday night on the town. Avoid wearing anything too shimmering or distracting. All eyes should be on the bride and your disco ball looking dress may ruin her big moment to shine.
