Ayade To Appoint 6,000 More Aides

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State said, yesterday, that he will soon appoint 6,000 more aides and create 50,000 jobs in January 2017 for youths of the state to expand governance and put food on the table of everyone in the state and ensure that no one goes to bed in an empty stomach.
Governor Ayade, who spoke at U J Esuene Stadium during a reception in his honour after the December 9 Supreme Court victory on a case of perjury brought against him by Mr Joe Agi, SAN, a co-contestant in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, primaries in December 2014.

He said, “I am appreciative of all the support given me by the women of the state and the youths and in this light, I will ever remain grateful. To ensure that nobody goes to sleep in an empty stomach, I shall appoint 6,000 more aides, create 3,000 jobs for the youths and in January 2017, create 50,000 jobs to make sure nobody in the state is unemployed.”

“I kept asking myself why me and if I said I truly believe in God, why should I be put to shame? But as it turned out, it is only God who has the glory and nobody else, not even the Supreme Court.”

The governor said that the victory has given him more verve to more towards the transformation of the state and hence, he would be dressing in jean and t-shirt while he traverses the state to inaugurate more projects and programmes for the people.

“I should say it without mincing words that if you come here in 2019, you will not recognise that this was not the Cross River State you used to know because I shall carry out a complete transformation of the state.”

He extended an olive branch to his opponent, Mr Joe Agi to sheathe the sword and join him along with his group in working for the state because there was a lot of work to be done.

Buhari To Appoint Ministers In 2 Months

President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministers may come in two months at the earliest as the new administration seeks to come to grip with what its officials claim as the rot it inherited.

Insiders in the new government claim that this is due to the acute state of affairs of government finances and resources. It was also disclosed that President Buhari would in the next few days take very painful decisions akin to “pulling off the tooth” of a man without painkillers.

A source close to the president, who made these known to reporters at the weekend, spoke in reference to assertions of the president’s slow take-off as reflected in the failure to appoint key actors of government. The source dismissed suggestions that the activities of government had been crippled on account of the failure to appoint ministers as a blackmail by politicians keen to get into the pie.

Appoint Amnesty Office Head, Ex-militants Tell Buhari

Ex-Militant leaders, under the aegis of the Leadership, Peace and Cultural Development Initiatives (LPCDI), have urged President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint a Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta.

A statement issued yesterday on behalf of the ex—militants by Pastor Reuben Wilson, reads: “We call on the President Buhari to immediately appoint a Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta. This call is sequel to the approval of the number of special advisers by the National Assembly requested by Mr. President and the impending crisis as a result of the vacancy.

“We, therefore, write to implore Mr. President to quickly appoint a credible person as a special adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs and Chairman, Presidential Amnesty Programme, which Hon. Kingsley Kuku just vacated. This request is coming on the ground that the absence of the SA/Chairman has hindered the payment of the monthly stipends to the beneficiaries both home and abroad.

“Our brothers and sisters currently schooling abroad on the platform of the Presidential Amnesty Programme are suffering due to lack of funds as they are yet to receive their monthly allowances. There is presently a palpable tension in the Niger Delta region as a result of the non-payment of the monthly stipends for May to the Amnesty beneficiaries.

“It is, therefore, in the interest of peace and stability in the Niger Delta that this situation be nipped in the bud by a speedy appointment of a credible person into the above office. We enjoin Mr. President to treat this matter with the urgency and seriousness it deserves.”

Buhari May Appoint Non-APC Members As Ministers- Oyegun

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Oyegun on Monday said that Nigerians who are non card carrying members of party were likely to serve as Ministers in the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Oyegun also said that he was not interested in the office of the secretary to Government of Federation, SGF as being speculated in different quarters of the country.

According to APC National chair, Buhari’s government and APC as a political party were more concerned with assembling technocrats and other competent hands who would key in to the vision and objectives of the present government.

Oyegun who spoke to Journalists in Abuja added that the background of such persons does not matter as long as he was capable to deliver and serve the Nigerian people, even as he explained why the list of ministers was yet to be made public.

He said: “There is absolutely no dispute between the party and the president. We agreed that we shall use all manner of people: politicians, technocrats, all manner of people even if not politicians, who can deliver and who subscribe passionately to the agenda of the president to move this country forward, irrespective of where the people come from; irrespective of whether the person is a card-carrying members of the party.

“What is important is the qualification of the person and the ability of the person to deliver on the ideas of Mr. President. What we are interested is in the ability of the people to bring up the ideas that will help Mr. President achieve the set objectives and the ability to deliver on what the President wants.

“Secondly, this is an executive function and the President has the right to consult as widely as possible. This means he might pick people within the party; people outside the party. It is a prerogative the President should exercise and we cannot question that. We are quite happy about the way he is proceeding.

Buhari To Appoint New Service Chiefs, NSA, DG SSS

Barring all unforeseen circumstances, all the service chiefs, the director general, State Security Services (SSS) and the national security adviser (NSA) are going with President Goodluck Jonathan.

The service chiefs are Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, the chief of defence staff (CDS), Lt General Kenneth Tobiah Jacob Minimah, the chief of army staff, Vice Admiral Usman O. Jibrin, the chief of naval staff (CNS) and Air Marshal Adesola Nunayon Amosu, chief of air staff.

These top military chiefs were appointed by the outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan, when on 16th January, 2014, a statement issued and signed by his media adviser, Dr Reuben Abati announced their appointments in replacement of the then chief of defence staff, Admiral Ola Sa’ad Ibrahim; chief of army staff, Lt. Gen. Azuibuike Ihejirika; and chief of naval staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Joseph Ezeoba.

Speaking with LEADERSHIP last week, an informed security observer explained that it was the usual practice that service chiefs departed from the scene once the tenure of their principal expired in order to allow the new helmsman to begin on a fresh note.

“It is the norm; service chiefs always depart from the scene with the man who hired them in order to allow the new leader to bring in those who are loyal to him. Remember, when former President Olusegun Obasanjo came in, he sacked those who worked for General Abdusalami Abubakar and brought his own into the offices.

Those who came on board with Obasanjo on 29th May, 1999 were Lt-Gen.Victor Malu (Army), Vice-Admiral Victor Ombu (Navy) and Air Marshal Isaac Alfa (Air Force) to replace Maj.-Gen. Alex Ogomudia (Army), Rear-Admiral Samuel Afolayan (Navy) and Air Vice-Marshal Jonah Wuyep (Air Force).

Speaking further, our source, a retired military officer, explained that with the security challenges going on in the country, the incoming president would like to overhaul the security agencies with a view to bringing in those whom he believes would help him accomplish his vision.

“With or without the ongoing war against the terrorists, Buhari would inject his own men whom he believes would help him implement his vision for the nation in terms of the security challenges. Those who are there now have been doing their best and we are seeing the results, yet that should not stop Buhari from appointing his own men at least for security and loyalty reasons”.

Our source who reminded us that Jonathan himself replaced those he inherited from the late President Umaru Yar’Adua also disclosed that the new president, General Buhari would name a new NSA and new DG, SSS in his first week in office who would help him in identifying those who could be in charge of all the security agencies.
