DSS Alleges Plot To Disrupt Activities In Abuja By Wike Supporters

The Department of State Services (DSS) has alleged plots by some protesters, suspected to be sponsored by Rivers state governor, Nyesome Wike, to disrupt activities in the Federal capital.
Accordinf to a statement signed by one Tony Opuiyo of the DSS, the Service has “uncovered a sinister plot by the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike to disrupt machinery of governance in strategic Federal Government agencies by provoking a violent breach of peace in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, yesterday, 22nd December, 2016.
“To achieve this, the Governor had secured the services of one Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, a Personal aide to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, to mobilise some hoodlums to execute their plan.
“The aim of the plot is to cause mayhem, a complete breakdown of law and order and cast the security agencies and the Federal Government in bad light. It is also intended to divert public and international attention from the ongoing Police investigation into the unwholesome role played by the Governor and some of his cronies in the violence that trailed the re-run election in Rivers state which resulted in the gruesome murder of civilians including the beheading of DSP Mohammed Alkali and some of his colleagues as well as the brutalization of INEC staff who failed to do the bidding of the governor.”
The DSS also alleges that “in furtherance of this plot, protesters are to besiege the National Human Rights Commission, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), National Assembly, the Nigerian Army and Police Headquarters as well as British High Commission, US Embassy and the UN Secretariat, Abuja; all in an effort to raise false alarm that Rivers state was under siege of security agencies during the elections.”

EFCC Alleges Another SAN Gave Judge N750,000

Another Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Dr Joseph Nwobike, paid N750,000 into the account of Justice Mohammed Yunusa of the Federal High Court, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alleged yesterday.

The allegation is contained in a counter-affidavit filed in opposition to a further and better affidavit filed by Rickey Tarfa (SAN).

Justice Mohammed Idris yesterday ruled that Tarfa could adduce new evidence through the further affidavit deposed to by a lawyer, Mohammed Awwal Yunusa.

In the further and better affidavit, the lawyer said the bank account, which EFCC said Tarfa used to bribe Justice Yunusa, belongs to him, and not to Justice Yunusa as EFCC alleged in its counter-affidavit to Tarfa’s suit.

The lawyer said Tarfa gave him N225,000 on January 7, 2014 to help finance his masters in Law degree.

But EFCC has alleged that Tarfa was not the only SAN to pay money to Justice Yunusa’s account.

An EFCC operative, Moses Awolusi, said there were new revelations about judges being allegedly induced through “a network of senior lawyers”.

“Investigation has also shown that as part of this chain of fraud, Mr. Joseph Nwobike (SAN) also transferred the sum of N300,000 to Hon. Justice H.A Nganjiwa.

“Investigations further revealed that Hon Justice M.N Yunusa as part of this scheme of fraud also received the sum of N750,000 from Mr. Joseph Nwobike SAN and Co,” the EFCC investigator said.

APC Alleges Ploy To Thwart Rivers Appeal Outcome

The All Progressives Congress (APC) alleged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was colluding with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in tampering with sensitive election material to compromise the probe into the alleged poll irregularities in the Rivers State.

“Faced with a bleak prospect of having no cogent and verifiable evidence of having held elections in Rivers State last March 28 and April 11, the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC], in collusion with the PDP, has now decided to cause further confusion by deliberately mixing up sensitive materials to make it difficult for inspection by the APC legal team and the election tribunal,” Chris Finebone, APC State Publicity Secretary, said.

He said the party recalled that the Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Gesila Khan, and her top Directors had been working in collusion with the PDP to forge a wide range of sensitive documents to support the results the INEC declared in favour of the PDP in the March 28 and April 11 general elections.

Finebone alleged the range of document being forged include result sheets, voters’ registers, thumb-printed ballot papers, incident forms and others.

“Two months after the April 11 elections, the INEC in Rivers State and the PDP are yet to succeed in forging enough numbers of sensitive materials to match what was declared as results of those phantom elections,” Finebone added.

APC is challenging the election of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, the PDP candidate who was announced winner of the governorship poll ahead of APC’s Dakuku Peterside.

Finebone was confident the election tribunal would eventually rule in favour of the APC.

“We believe that the hard journey to retrieve our stolen mandates has started on a promising and sure note. Indeed, it is only a matter of time before justice arrives our beloved Rivers State,” he said.

Rights Group Alleges Sabotage In Federal Secretariat Fire, Calls For Probing

The Human Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has called for a probe into the fire outbreaks that razed the Federal Secretariat complex in Abuja. The pro-human rights organisation alleged sabotage.

“We find it shocking that a high profile housing assets like the Federal Secretariat Complex located within the precincts of the Three Arms zone adjacent the imposing State House Aso Rock in Abuja could be set ablaze and civil servants working in those premises are exposed to unmitigated risks to their lives,” HURIWA National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, and the National Media affairs Director, Zainab Yusuf, jointly stated.

On Thursday, a section of the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja has been gutted by fire.

The fire, believed to have started at the section housing the Federal Ministry of Education, started from the sixth floor and extended to other floors of the expansive complex.

Fire-fighters were reported to have battled to control the fire from spreading to other parts of the complex.

“Sadly there are no functional fire fighting facilities located within the premises. This is an abomination,” HURIWA stated.

There were no casualties while the cause of the fire could not be ascertained at the time of publication.
