Only Messi And Ronaldo Are Better Than Aguero – Pellegrini

The Manchester City boss rates his star striker, who scored five times against Newcastle at the weekend, as the third best player in the world at the moment

Manchester City star Sergio Aguero is up there with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo among the best players in the world, according to his manager Manuel Pellegrini.

Aguero scored five goals in 20 minutes as City thrashed Newcastle United 6-1 in the Premier League on Saturday.

Last season’s golden boot winner had made a slow start to the season, but his haul took his tally to six in the league.

Pellegrini believes only superstars Messi and Ronaldo are better than his 27-year-old forward.

“After what we have seen [against Newcastle] of course Kun [Aguero] is at that level,” Pellegrini said.

“I have already said that, after Ronaldo and Messi, he is the best player in the world.

“But the important thing – not only for Kun but as a team – is that we must continue to improve.

“We need to win the Premier League again and to win the Champions League, because Messi and Ronaldo are always involved in that competition and that’s very important for a player.

“I’m very happy for us that in Kun we have a very important player. He always makes important things in competitions.”

Pellegrini Hails ‘Unbelievable’ Aguero After Chelsea Display

The Argentina international had the chance to score a hat-trick against the defending champions before the half-time whistle, according to his Sky Blues boss

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini praised striker Sergio Aguero following his side’s 3-0 win overChelsea, claiming the Argentinian could have scored “three or four” in the first half.

Following repeated attempts to get past the impressive Asmir Begovic, the former Atletico Madrid forward finally opened his account after half and hour before Vincent Kompany and Fernandinho netted two late goals to add gloss to a convincing victory.

Pellegrini’s side have moved to the top of the Premier League table and five points clear of champions Chelsea with the win and the boss was delighted with his striker’s performance.

“The first 45 minutes from Aguero were unbelievable,” the 61-year-old coach said. “It was just the three important saves from Begovic didn’t allow him to score three or four goals.

“[The result] was very satisfying because it’s not easy to beat the champions. Chelsea are the best team. They won the title last season and I think that the first 45 minutes we played deserved at least three goals.

“We played really well without conceding any chances for Chelsea to score and we created at least four clear chances.

“It was just Begovic had a great performance and we couldn’t score more goals.

“Second half we had maybe some restrictions by the yellow cards, but in our worst moments Chelsea didn’t have chances and finally we scored the two other goals that we deserved in the first half.”

However, Pellegrini is reluctant to claim the result sends a warning signal to any other would-be champions and played down the importance of the early-season victory.

“We are not sending a message to anybody, we are just playing the way we always try to,” he added.

“We have only played two games this season, but in both games we scored three goals and I think we have more concentration in defending, so that’s why we also have clean sheets in the two games.

“[But] nothing is significant until the end of the season.”
