It Is Regrettable That APC Didn’t Keep To Their Promises – Agbaje

Former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for Lagos state in the 2015 election, Mr Jimi Agbaje has promised that he will lead the party back to winning ways if elected chairman of the party at the Portharcourt Convention.

He also said that PDP gave ‘way so that Nigerians can test what other parties have in stock. But it is regrettable that party has failed to provide the change promised.

Every youth in Nigeria will like to see PDP reformed, and the reformation has started.”

Speaking with Journalists shortly after he picked the nomination forms for the chairmanship position of the party in Abuja, Mr Agbaje said as a candidate who does not belong to any of the factions in the party, he stands a better chance to unite all the contending forces in the party.

PDP Governors Divide Over Bode George, Agbaje

Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party are said to be sharply divided on whether to support Chief Bode George or Mr. Jimi Agbaje for the position of the national chairman of the party, investigations have revealed.

George, who is believed to be the political godfather of Agbaje, had paid the mandatory N1m and had therefore picked his Expression of Interest form at the party’s temporary headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.

Agabaje, who was the governorship candidate of the party in Lagos during the last election, has yet to pay for his nomination form.

However, a source close to him said that the pharmacist-turned politician would pick his nomination form on Tuesday (tomorrow) in Abuja.

“I can confirm and confide in you that he will pay and pick his form in Abuja on Tuesday,” the source added.

He was said to be the candidate of Bode George during the election, which the PDP lost to the incumbent Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode.

And I told them that Jimi (Agbaje) will never be the governor. I still maintain it. There is no going back,” he added.

Tribunal Grants Agbaje Leave To Inspect Governorship Election Materials

The Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on Tuesday granted Mr Jimi Agbaje leave to inspect all polling materials and documents used in the April 11 governorship election in the state.

Agbaje was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the election in which the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) declared Mr Akinwunmi Ambode of the All Progressives Congress as the winner.

The three-man tribunal, led by Justice Muhammad Sirajo, gave the order while ruling on a motion ex-parte filed by Agbaje’s counsel, Mr Clement Onwuenmunor.

The tribunal also ordered INEC to provide certified true copies of all polling documents, including printed data from the card reader machine, in each polling unit.

However, the tribunal rejected Agbaje’s request to inspect the polling documents and devices used in the conduct of the March 28 Presidential Election in Lagos State.

Sirajo noted that the tribunal was set up solely to hear and determine the petitions relating to the governorship election.

“The tribunal does not have the power to make an order for the inspection of the documents and devices used for the presidential election. It is hereby refused,” he added.

The tribunal also rejected Agbaje’s application, pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, seeking an order to compel INEC to produce all polling documents, and card reader machines used for the governorship election.

According to the panel, the petitioner can request for materials and documents it deemed necessary to his case by way of subpoena when the tribunal has fully commenced proceedings.

The judge noted that the respondents should be given the statutory time to file their replies to the petitioner’s originating summons, adding that notices would be sent to parties for the pre-hearing conference.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Agbaje had petitioned the tribunal over the election which he lost to Ambode of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Agbaje had alleged some irregularities during the election which he said contravened the provisions of INEC approved guidelines for the election.

The respondents in the suit are : INEC, Ambode, APC and the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner for Lagos State.

Guber Polls: Will Buhari’s Victory Throw Up Bandwagon Effect? By Levinus Nwabughiogu

As Nigerians head back to the polls today to elect fresh governors and state legislators, there is no doubt that it would also be another titanic battle between two major political parties.

Though there are over 10 political parties participating in the exercise, electoral dynamics have obviously narrowed down the contest between All Progressives Congress, APC and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.Sai-Buhari

Like in the March 28 Presidential elections, both parties displayed strength but at the end of the day, PDP’s candidate and incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan fell to APC’s General Mohammadu Buhari who is now the President-Elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The development has in no small degree thrown up tension in the polity even as today’s exercise comes underway.

Saturday Vanguard can authoritatively report that bandwagon effects are mounting in high places, giving APC an edge over PDP in some states with sitting PDP governors.

This however stems from the voting pattern that gave APC victory over PDP in the presidential election.

Candidate of APC, Buhari made an impressive inroad in the States controlled by the PDP and beat Jonathan.

For instance, Jigawa, Niger, Kaduna, Katsina, Gombe, Bauchi, Benue, Kebbi and Adamawa are all northern states where Buhari trounced Jonathan.

Details of the results showed that in Gombe, APC polled 361, 246 against PDP’s paltry 96, 873 votes. Bauchi APC polled 931,598 votes as against   PDP’s slim 86,085 votes.

Kaduna the home state of the incumbent Vice President, Architect Namadi Sambo, APC beat PDP with whooping 1,127,760 to 484,085 votes. In Niger state, it was 657,678 to 149,222 even with the loquacious Governor Babangida Aliyu.

Katsina showed 100 percent solidarity to APC presidential candidate who won PDP with 1,345,441 to 98,937 votes.

Adamawa blessed Buhari with 374,701 as against PDP’s 251,664 votes.

The presence of the senate president, David Mark and that of Governor Gabriel Suswan in Benue couldn’t fly the PDP as it was trounced 373,961 to 303,737 votes.

Kebbi State also honored Buhari with 567,883 to 100,972 votes of the PDP.

President Jonathan was also beaten squarely in Governor Sule Lamido’s Jigawa State with 885,988 to 142,904 votes.

Many people had thought that with the presence of PDP Governors who mouthed massive supports for the president, the ruling party would win in those states. But they did.

APC did not only win the presidency, it also won majority seats in the Senate and the House of Representatives. In other words, the table has completely turned placing the party in the lead.

Obviously, APC’s victory has buoyed it up for more and more electoral successes. And going by the voting pattern in the last presidential, most analysts are of the opinion that Buhari’s victory would have bandwagon effects on the governorship and house of assembly elections today in some states under PDP governors now.

Feelers from Gombe State indicated that it would be an easy ride for APC as most members of PDP have even defected to APC. For instance, the incumbent member of House of Representatives representing Yelmatu Deba federal constituency who lost reelection has immediately after the National Assembly election defected to APC.

In the three senatorial districts of the state, APC won two leaving one for PDP.

Most people believe that this is not enough to garner support for PDP to win the gubernatorial election.

Many believe that the last voting pattern if repeated would win more states for the APC from PDP strong holds.

It may be taken for granted that APC would retain Kano, Sokoto, Borno, Kwara, Yobe, Adamawa, Ogun and Zamfara already in its kitty.

However, PDP also has some states especially in the south east and south where they are likely to record a landslide in today elections to retain the states.

Enugu, Ebonyi, Cross Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Abia States are the states

But there are states expected to be battlegrounds for both parties. They include Lagos, Imo, Taraba, Rivers, Nassarawa, Akwa Ibom and Plateau States.

APC And PDP Members In Campaign Space Show Down In Lagos

WITH less than 30 days to the general elections, the political parties have put their machinery in motion canvassing votes from the electorate through posters at strategic points, a development that is raising dust in Lagos.

In Lagos State, the frontline political parties, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are talking tough.

As a way of creating awarenesPolitical-Bilboards for the parties and candidates for the various elective positions, posters and billboards are being pasted or erected on every available space in the state.

The Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) is the agency responsible for the regulations of pasting of posters, billboards and any form of advertisement in the state.

But crisis seems to be brewing between the APC and PDP over the removal and defacing of posters as both parties have continued to point accusing fingers at each other.

While the APC on its part is saying that the PDP and its supporters have been responsible for removal of posters belonging to candidates vying on its platform, the PDP says otherwise.

Prior to this, the Lagos State Police Command had asked LASAA to desist from removing the campaign posters and billboards of political parties.

The state Commissioner of Police, Cornelius Aderanti, was reported to have given the warning at the command headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos.

Aderanti, who said the police had also held a meeting with LASAA authorities on the matter, added that the electoral act did not permit any agency or people to remove candidates’ campaign posters.

According to him, “We note with concern the series of complaints which have been made against LASAA by candidates of various political parties about removal of campaign billboards and posters purportedly by personnel of the agency. The Electoral Act 2010 as amended is clear in Section 100(2), where it said that state apparatus, including the media shall not be employed to the advantage or the disadvantage of any political party or candidate in any election.

Stop Your Verbal Attacks On Me – Bode George Warns Obanikoro

Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Bode George, has called  for an end to verbal attacks by Obanikoro.

George: Soon, FG will resolve Diya, others’ rights issue

The statement reads; ‘’One has refrained from engaging Senator Musiliu Obanikoro despite his gross and alarmist provocations. I have deliberately remained distant and quiet, ignoring the stark obscenities of a desperate and obsessed man who is apparently incapable of absorbing the reality of his defeat by a well-bred and better man.

‘’For Obanikoro to claim in sheer ludicrousness that I, even remotely, identify with any intimations of violence is utter lunacy and blind, vindictive madness. Surely, Obanikoro is possessed and obsessed. He needs immediate psychiatric treatment. He is a desperate sinking man, grasping and thrashing in self inflicted chasm.

‘’ What is the pedigree of this young man who has abandoned the typical African deference to Elders? We know who sprung from violence and banditry. We know whose antecedents reek in noisome, vagrant, untidy ruffianism.

‘’ Politics is not a do or die affair. No civilized person with impeccable pedigree will seek a tacky refuge in destruction and ruin simply because he has lost in a free and fair contest. Obanikoro should go quietly into that good night if he means well for Lagos.

‘’ Enough of his desperate tantrums.

Ribadu, Folarin, Okowa, Agbaje, Others Win PDP Governorship Primaries

The PDP primaries exercises produced shocking results in some states. Most of the out-going governors such as Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State, Theodore Orji of Abia, Babangida Aliyu of Niger and Sule Lamido of Adamawa ‘delivered’ their favoured aspirants as candidates just as former Minister of State (Education), Mr. Nyesom Wike came out tops in Rivers in spite of pre-primaries opposition from some PDP elders and stakeholders in the state, while Mr. Jimi Agbaje emerged winner in Lagos.

After last-minute high-wire battle for delegates’ votes in which some aspirants offered mouth-watering sums of money and got delegates to swear. Chairman, Senate Committee on Health, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, yesterday, emerged PDP governorship candidate for Delta. He polled 406 votes. Olorogun David Edevbie, the consensus candidate of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), who also reportedly got the backing of the state government, scored 299 votes to come second.

Other results as announced by Sunday Kareem, the returning officer were as follows:  Victor Ochei (185 votes), Ndudi Elumelu (50 votes), Godsday Orubebe (49) and Godswill Obielum (22). Sylvester Monye, Ovie Omo-Agege and Sam Obi got 10 votes each;  Peter Okocha had six votes, Tony Obuh (five), Charles Emetulu (four), Kenneth Gbagi (two) and Mike Uwaka (one vote). One vote was voided.

Agents of some governorship aspirants in Delta State openly shared money to delegates, yesterday, at the venue of the primary, giving them Bible and oil to swear that they would not vote for another candidate. Reporters witnessed a case at about 4.00 pm when a delegate was offered N500,000 and there was a heated debate before he finally swore and collected his cash. Some aspirants offered delegates N1million each to vote for them and one reportedly gave 10,000 dollars each. One of the aspirants confirmed that he was aware other aspirants were bribing delegates, but he urged those who collected money to vote for him because he is the right candidate.
