MMM Founder Accuses Media Of Causing Panic Among Participants

As subscribers await the resumption of operations of Mavrodi Moneybox Mondial (MMM) Nigeria in January 2017, the founder of the Ponzi scheme Sergey Mavrodi has accused the Nigerian press of deliberately “fueling hysteria around MMM and causing panic.”

The operators of the scheme in Nigeria said in a message sent to all subscribers on December 12 that all confirmed Mavros would be frozen for one month.

During the period – December 12 to January 12 – none of the participants would be able to ‘get help’ (withdraw funds deposited with the mandatory 30% interest). But they allowed to ‘provide help’ (deposit funds).

The scepticism and panic that followed the announcement were caused by the media, Mavrodi said.

He said, “I’m just astonished by your irresponsibility and cynical attitude. Interests of millions of people, your fellow citizens are at stake. Don’t you have any sympathy for them? Why are you fueling hysteria around MMM and provoking a panic? Why are you doing this so diligently and persistently, what is your purpose?”

He insisted that operations of the scheme would resume in January, noting that the “suspension of work for holidays” was not unusual. His claims contradicted the reason the Nigerian operators of MMM gave for freezing the confirmed Mavros for one month. They explained that the measure was put in place because “in the New Year season the System is experiencing heavy workload.”

But Mavrodi insisted all was well with MMM Nigeria and urged the press to desist from being biased against the scheme.

He said, “Again, leave MMM alone and let us work. Nothing has collapsed, and MMM will perfectly resume its work in January. We Can Change the World!”

APC Accuses Mimiko Of Plan To Create Crisis

As the people of Ondo State prepare to elect a new governor on Nov. 26, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state has accused Governor Olusegun Mimiko of plotting to cause mayhem.

The Ondo State chapter of APC, Mr Abayomi Adesanya, made the allegation in a statement in Akure on Sunday.

“We have been reliably informed of the intense mobilisation of thugs and militants, running into thousands, by the Executive Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko,’’ Adesanya said.

He alleged that the governor intended to use the recruits to ‘’protest and unleash terror on the good people of the state from Monday, Oct. 31, in Akure, Ondo, Akoko areas and Owo, Ore and Okitipupa.

He alleged that Mimiko on Saturday started disbursing money to mobilise militants and hoodlums from Delta and Edo states as well as a faction of Oodua People’s Congress from Ekiti and Lagos states.

He appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to direct the security agencies to beef-up security in and around Ondo State till the governorship election was concluded.

Adesanya said that the people of the state were desirous of peace, which should not be disrupted by the few self-seeking individuals for political gains.

Reacting to the allegation, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Eni Akinsola, described the allegation as baseless.

“This is baseless allegation.

“In the last seven and a half years of Gov. Olusegun Mimiko’s administration, we have no history of violence.

” The people of Ondo State are capable of defending themselves and protecting their territory.

“We have the history of defending our votes and we do not have the history of depending on external forces and this will not be an exception,” Akinsola said.

NAN recalls the Ondo State has been under tension since the announcement of Mr Ibrahim Jimoh as the PDP candidate for the election.

Mimiko said on Friday that he had briefed the president of the danger in the decision by INEC and appealed to the people to remain calm.

Clinton Accuses Trump Of ‘Stalking’ Her During Debate

Hillary Clinton has accused her Republican presidential rival Donald Trump of “stalking” her during their televised debate on Sunday.

Trump often stood closely behind the Democratic nominee glowering as she answered questions from the audience during the town hall-style event in St. Louis.

Speaking during an interview on NBC’s The Ellen DeGeneres Show set to air Friday, Clinton said his movements made her feel “really weird” on stage.

“Because of the revelation of the public video, and everything that came out on ‘Access Hollywood,’ you know, he was really all wrought up, and you could just sense how much anger he had,” Clinton said, referring to a video leaked last week showing Trump making lewd comments about women.

“And so he was really trying to dominate and then literally stalk me around the stage and I would just feel this presence behind me.”

Trump rejected criticism about his debate performance at a rally on Monday.

“So I’m standing at my podium by my chair. She walks across the room. She’s standing in front of me, right next to me,” he said.

“And the next day I said what did the papers say? They said, ‘he invaded her space.’”

“Believe me,” he added, “The last space that I want to invade is her space.”

Pastor Accuses Hospital Of Removing Wife’s Womb, Damaging Bladder

A pastor with a Pentecostal ministry, Chinedu Rockson, has accused the management of Ilogbo Central Hospital in the Ajangbadi area of Lagos State of removing his wife’s womb and damaging her bladder during childbirth.

Chinedu said the hospital also detained his wife over the payment of N50,000, adding that efforts to clear the bill had been frustrated by the hospital.

It was learnt that Chinedu’s wife, Chinansa, had been referred to the hospital on August 26, 2016, after she could not be delivered of the baby at the hospital where she had her antenatal care.

The hospital reportedly commenced a caesarean section on the 42-year-old after her husband signed some documents to perfect the terms.

Chinedu explained that some hours into the operation, he was called into the theatre to sign another document, adding that nobody told him it was for the removal of his wife’s womb.

He said, “They charged N200, 000 for the operation and we negotiated for N150,000. I paid a deposit of N30,000 and they started the operation.

“They asked me to sign some papers, which I did. Some hours later, a surgeon said there had been complications and I would need to sign another document. He didn’t tell me what I was signing for or the implications. Because I was in a haste to get my wife saved, I signed the document.

“After some time, they brought out my wife from the theatre with a pipe attached to her bladder. We became worried when we discovered that few days afterwards, they didn’t remove the pipe.

“After a week, they said I should come and clear my bill of N50,000 so they could discharge her. I called a senior pastor, who presented them with a cheque. But they said they would keep her for the two weeks that the cheque would be ready to be cashed.”

#Rio2016: Coach Accuses Seven Countries Of Systematic Doping

Germany’s weightlifting coach has called for seven countries currently competing at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games to be banned from international competition — and named an eighth — for doping abuse.

“Besides Russia and Bulgaria (who are already banned from weightlifting at the Rio Games), many other countries also have systematic doping,” Germany’s coach Oliver Caruso told daily newspaper Bild.

“Kazakhstan, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Moldova, Romania and Ukraine should also be banned.

“These countries are robbing us of starting places (for other athletes), perhaps even medals.”

In an explosive interview, given to Bild in the Olympic village in Rio, Caruso also pointed the finger at Azerbaijan, who have no weightlifters competing in Rio after being stripped of two spots by the sport’s governing body last month.

“In Kazakhstan, there have been 27 positive doping cases since 2012, in Azerbaijan there have been 24 — and so it goes on,” said Caruso.

“Kazakhstan and Belarus should have been banned (due to the number of doping cases) for a year before the Olympics, but that will only come after the Games.

“It’s like they’re winding us up.

“Some get banned, some come back from a ban and can start again.

“That doesn’t help much, because they’ll probably be back again in time for the next world championships.”

Caruso’s words come after a Kazakh weightlifter Nijat Rahimov, who only completed a two-year doping ban last year, smashed a world record to claim Olympic gold on Wednesday.

Caruso says the International Olympic Committee (IOC) should take a tougher stance on any nation with a track-record of systematic doping.

Trump Calls Clinton, Obama “Founders” Of ISIS

Republican candidate Donald Trump roiled the US presidential campaign once again, with the jaw-dropping assertion Wednesday that Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama “founded” the IS group.

Addressing supporters at a rally in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the real estate tycoon said the jihadist group is “honoring President Obama.”

“He is the founder of ISIS,” Trump said, using a term for IS.

“He’s the founder of ISIS, okay?” he added. “He’s the founder! He founded ISIS.”

“And I would say, the co-founder would be ‘Crooked Hillary Clinton’,” Trump shouted, over cheers and applause from the crowd.

Turkey Accuses EU Of ‘Encouraging’ Coup Plotters

Turkey accused the EU on Wednesday of “encouraging” the plotters on the night of the July 15 coup in an escalating row that has raised questions over Ankara’s future relationship with the bloc.

A day after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made a highly-symbolic visit to Russia, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Turkish people’s confidence in the EU had “unfortunately fallen” in the wake of the coup, saying the bloc “failed a test” on the night of the putsch.

“Let me say openly, this is because the EU adopted a favourable position to the coup (and) encouraged the putschists,” the minister told reporters during a televised briefing in the capital Ankara without expanding further.

He claimed support for the EU — which Turkey has sought to join since the 1960s — had plummeted to some 20 percent.

Relations between Brussels and Ankara have become increasingly strained since Turkey launched a crackdown, imprisoning and dismissing tens of thousands within the military, judiciary and education in the wake of the putsch which it has blamed on US-based preacher Fethullah Gulen.

The EU has urged Ankara to act within the rule of law while condemning Erdogan for suggesting the country could bring back the death penalty, abolished in 2004 as part of Turkey’s reforms to join the union.

Ankara has expressed astonishment that no EU official has visited Turkey in the wake of the coup.

Cavusoglu’s comments came a day after Erdogan travelled to Russia to meet President Vladimir Putin for the first time since Ankara downed one of Moscow’s warplanes in November, triggering a diplomatic crisis between them.

It was his first foreign trip since the failed coup, but the foreign minister said it was not a move to turn Turkey’s focus to the East.

MEND Accuses Jonathan For Using Avengers To Destabilise Buhari’s Govt

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta says it has been vindicated by the Reformed Niger Delta Avengers’ allegation that former President Goodluck Jonathan is a grand patron of new militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers.

MEND claimed in a statement on Tuesday that Jonathan was sponsoring the NDA to destabilise the government of his successor, President Muhammadu Buhari.

The statement signed by one Jomo Gbomo was MEND’s response to Jonathan’s denial of the allegation by the RNDA, linking the ex-President with the new militant group.

The full text of the statement was made available to online news platform, SaharaReporters by MEND.

MEND said it was highly infuriated by Jonathan’s rebuttal of the RNDA earlier claim, particularly his declaration that Henry Okah was after his life rather than clear the air on the allegation.

The statement said, “MEND cannot hold brief for the RNDA, which pointedly accused Mr. Jonathan of complicity in fueling the ongoing Niger Delta crisis and patronising the NDA, apparently for political reasons.

“We are, however, quick to point out the fact that the RNDA has merely vindicated MEND’s belief and conviction that the former President and his cronies, who lost the 2015 presidential election, were using the illegal and treasonable NDA platform to destabilise President Buhari’s government.”

NASS Alone Cannot Pad Budgets, Na’Abba Accuses Executive Arm

The former Speaker of House of Representatives, Rt Hon Ghali Na’Abba, has declared that there can be no padding of the national budget without the connivance of the executive arm of government.

Na’Abba made this revelation while fielding questions from journalists in Kaduna, yesterday.

He also noted that it was the constitutional responsibility of the National Assembly to make appropriations on the budget submitted to it by the executive.

“I expect that after 16 years of the return to democracy, Nigerians would understand the responsibilities of the National Assembly.

“For some weeks now, there has been controversy over what is called padding. As far as I am concerned, the National Assembly has the responsibility to pass the budget, approve it and allow the executive arm to execute it.

“To my understanding, where the issue being referred to as padding comes into play is a situation where some members go behind and add items of expenditure to what had already been agreed upon, for either stealing the funds or doing whatever they feel like doing with it.

“But this stealing of fund is not possible without the active connivance of some members of the executive arm,” he stated.

Oshiomhole Accuses PDP Of Buying PVCs

Governor Adams Oshiomhole has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of buying PVCs from voters in different parts of the state with a view to rigging the September 10 Governorship election in the state.

Speaking at a rally of the All Progressives Congress in Jattu, Etsako West Local Government Area of the state, Monday, Oshiomhole said anyone caught in the illegality will be prosecuted and jailed if found guilty.

According to him, “They are going round, collecting PVCs and dropping lies, please don’t sell your PVCs. Poverty cannot be cured with a dash, it has to be fought on a systematic basis.

“In Agenebode, they are buying PVCs, they will say bring it, we will give you N5,000. Ask them, if they sweat to make the money, will they use it to buy PVC? “Don’t allow them, after impoverishing you, they take N5,000 and stop you from voting. I’ve told the security agencies to monitor, when we catch them they will be prosecuted and jailed, but please, N5,000 will not bail anyone out of poverty.”

The Governor said “when we say the PDP, you actually buried it, we only announced it, and they will remain politically dead. They died in sin, they undermined the people, looted the treasury, failed all the questions and they breached all 10 commandments of development, so they died in sin and shall never resurrect in our lifetime.

“I hear them say Change the change, the dead cannot change the living because they are dead politically, they cannot change us who are politically living. So it’s a futile slogan. He said the PDP ruined the nation’s economy in 16 years.

According to him “On May 29, 1999, when the PDP took over the reins of the Federal Government, the official rate of naira was N21.90 to $1, by the time they were chased out of power, the naira was already exchanging for close to N200.”

We have written our own development testimonial in our own ink and they have written the testimonial of their failure in their own ink.”

Candidate of the APC, Mr Godwin Obaseki said the Edo progress cannot be put on the reverse by the PDP, adding “we will continue with what Oshiomhole has started; he has built roads, schools, hospitals, so we will continue with the next phase with human capital development.”

NBA Accuses Buhari Of Plot To Intimidate Judiciary

The Nigerian Bar Association has condemned in strong terms the recent criticism of the judiciary in the fight against corruption.

Speaking at the valedictory session organised in honour of a retiring Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Mohammed Muntaka-Coomassie, NBA President, Augustine Alegeh, said the recent attack directed at the judiciary over the ongoing anti-corruption war was unacceptable.

“The NBA condemns in its entirety the generalisation and/or categorisation of the Judiciary as being corrupt and an impediment to the zero corruption policy of the present administration,” Mr. Alegeh said.

Mr. Alegeh noted that although there were bad eggs in the system, the categorisation of the entire judiciary as corrupt was a strong misconception, and an attempt to intimidate the judiciary, which he said would not be tolerated.

Although the NBA chief did not mention President Muhammadu Buhari in his speech, it was clear the President was one of those to which the comment was directed.

Mr. Buhari is the most prominent Nigerian official to criticise the judiciary in recent times.

The President had while speaking in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on January 31, said his biggest headache in the ongoing fight against corruption in Nigeria remained the actions and inactions of the judiciary.

PDP Accuses Buhari Of Planning To Borrow N5 Billion Daily In 2016

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of planning to borrow at least N5 billion per day to finance the N6.08 trillion 2016 budget.

The spokesperson of the party, Olisa Metuh, who spoke with reporters on Tuesday in Abuja, said a breakdown of the N1.84 trillion to be borrowed by Mr. Buhari to fund the budget shows that Nigeria would be borrowing N5 billion a day for the next 365 days, starting from January I, 2016, without corresponding provision for economic production and a clear repayment plan.

“Some people may be wondering why we raised an alarm about the budget. The reason is simple. When we analysed the budget, we discovered it is a misshapen attempt at a Keynesian economics of applying deficit spending to stimulate growth even when studies have proven that GDP growth rates decrease by over 50% when debt goes from low or moderate to high. But then we know the borrowing here is to pay huge campaign debt and fund a political war chest.

“By every standard, this budget is a booby trap against the nation. When you break down the proposed N1.84 trillion borrowing, you discover that it amounts to borrowing N5 billion every day for the 365 days in 2016. The questions are: for what specific projects are they borrowing N5 billion per day and how do they intend to pay back?” Mr. Metuh said.

The PDP spokespersons said Mr. Buhari should explain to Nigerians how his government intends to pay back the loan.

Report Accuses Okonjo-Iweala For Illegally Approving Sum From Abacha Loot To Dasuki Few Weeks Before Presidential Election

The immediate past Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, illegally approved the transfer of at least N61.4 billion ($300 million and £5.5 million) from funds recovered from late dictator, Sani Abacha, to the Office of the National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, few weeks to the 2015 presidential election, Premium Times report.

The former Minister signed off on the transfer but then closed her eyes to how the funds were spent, requesting then President Goodluck Jonathan to directly demand accountability from Mr. Dasuki, according to documents seen by this newspaper.

The funds were never appropriated before they were transferred, a clear violation of Nigeria’s fiscal responsibility law.

Mr. Dasuki, alongside the former governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa and founder of DAAR communications, owners of Africa Independent Television and Raypower radio network, Raymond Dokpesi, are being investigated for their roles in the disbursement of $2.1 billion and N643 billion meant for the procurement of arms to fight the raging insurgency in Nigeria’s north east region.

The recovered Abacha loot are funds returned to the Nigerian government from monies stolen from the country’s treasury by Mr. Abacha.

It is not clear whether these funds in question were part of the arms procurement funds for which Mr Dasuki is being investigated.

But a letter signed by Mrs Okonjo-Iweala, seen by Premium Times, showed that 50 per cent of the recently recovered Abacha loot was allotted for “urgent security need” such as the procurement of arms and ammunition while the other half was set aside to be used for development purposes.

The letter, dated January 20, 2015, which was addressed to Mr Jonathan revealed that the money was transferred following a January 12, 2015 request by the office of the NSA under Mr Dasuki for funds for the procurement of arms and ammunition as well as intelligence equipment.

“Please find a request by the National Security Adviser (NSA) for the transfer of $300 million and £5.5 million of the recovered Abacha funds to an ONSA [Office of the National Security Adviser] operations account,” the letter read.

PDP Blames Buhari For Worst Sallah, Bleakest Christmas To Come

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Tuesday said the policies of President Muhammadu Buhari and his “apparent lack of viable economic initiatives” were inflicting hardship on Nigerians.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, said in a statement that it was disheartening the present administration had remained insensitive and unresponsive to the feelings of Nigerians.
The party said the hardship was occasioned by lack of competent hands in the management nation’s economy.

“Rather than evolving economic initiatives to improve the lot of the citizens, this administration has in the last seven months churned out policies that stifle productivity in the formal and informal sectors, thereby inflicting hardship on them. This has resulted in the semi-destruction of the long-standing extended family system in our society.

“It is a statement of fact that under President Buhari’s watch, the nation has witnessed the gloomiest festive season. Under this government, Nigerians have had the worst Sallah celebration and by all indications, this Christmas season is going to be the bleakest ever.

“More worrisome is the fact that there is no indication that the government has any plan for ameliorating the hardship of the people. Instead, the situation may get worse as this administration, in its lack of economic initiatives, is now rolling up its sleeves to introduce some stringent tax policies, in addition to completely removing the social palliatives Nigerians benefit from.

“On the issue of the persisting fuel queues across the country, we demand that the government come clean. Is it market driven or a product of government conspiracy? Our take is that if indeed it is true that the government has a hand in this fuel crisis, then they should have a rethink and show pity on innocent Nigerians.

“We therefore align with the people in declaring that this administration is unprepared for governance. President Buhari and his party came to power on propaganda, deceit and falsehood and the government has now shown lack of initiatives and the required competence to successfully move the nation forward.

Mr. Metuh said it was saddening that a government that came to power on a mantra of change now seeks to change the ways and means of the very people that they “deceived” into voting for them.

“We advise the government to note that any attempt to increase taxes and duties will overstretch the lean income of ordinary Nigerians and gradually inflict intolerable poverty in the land,” Mr. Metuh said.

Man Crowned Winner At Mr Ugly Pageant, Runner-Up Accuses Judges Of Being Bias

A 42-year-old unemployed man was crowned Zimbabwe’s ugliest man at a pub pageant in Harare — but the contest turned ugly when the runner-up accused judges of bias.

Maison Sere, who was missing several teeth and dressed in torn overalls, beat off five other contestants for the $500 Mr Ugly prize a large sum in a country facing massive unemploment.

“I want to thank God for winning this title, last time I came fourth. I just want to thank the judges for recognising me as the winner,” Sere told journalists during a night of festivities Friday attended by 200 revellers.

But William Masvinu, a three-time Mr Ugly winner who walked off with a $100 second prize this year, cried foul.

“The judges were not fair, the organisers must look for new judges to start the contest afresh. I did not lose today,” Masvinu said.

Show organiser David Machowa said he created the pageant in 2012 to celebrate “beauty in ugliness”.

“The show last night was very successful, and I still have plans to host Mr Ugly world,” he said.

Lai Mohammed Accuses Metuh Of Character Assassination

The spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has accused the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh of defaming his character, in a press release he allegedly authored and circulated on September 20, 2015.

According to Mohammed, Metuh had, in the said release stated that he (Mohammed) embezzled the funds meant for fencing an airport in one of the APC-controlled states in the South-West.

He claimed that Metuh also accused him of obtaining money to supply ambulances to one APC-controlled state in the South-West, but never did so.

Metuh had, in the statement, allegedly wondered where Mohammed got the morality right to speak on corruption, when, indeed, the APC spokesman ‘had mastered the art of corruption, having been a personal aide to one of the most corrupt politicians to ever bestride the political space of the country’.

Ministerial List: PDP Accuses Buhari Of Preferring Monocracy

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of harbouring a premeditated plot to operate a monocracy, hence his continued reluctance to appoint ministers of his administration.

The pray said the president is increasingly moving the country from a democracy to an autocracy and attempting to impose a sole administratorship in all spheres of the polity.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, while addressing journalists yesterday in Abuja, also took a swipe at the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration for skipping an important event on Boko Haram at the United Nations General Assembly, accusing the federal government of gross insensitivity to the plight of the long suffering victims of the insurgency in the country.

According to the party, the president’s disdain for ministers could be seen from his recent outburst, where he described ministers as “noise makers.”

He said: “From his hesitation and comments, it is deducible that President Buhari never intended to appoint ministers but prefers to run a monocracy, and evidently does not value or respect those he would nominate as ministers.”

Metuh lamented that the last 120 days under the APC, has witnessed continued deterioration from a democracy to an autocracy, and attempts  to impose a sole administratorship in all spheres of the polity, with its attendant consequences and embarrassments to the president and national image…”

APC Accuses PDP Of Finding Faults Unnecessarily

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has dismissed as unnecessary, what it calls the PDP’s ceaseless accusations.

The APC National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, was responding to PDP’s allegation that APC and the present leadership was pursuing policies aimed at destroying Nigeria’s democracy and imposing what the PDP describes as dictatorship in the country.

Mr Mohammed warned the opposition party to stop distracting the Buhari administration from its onerous task of reviving the country’s fortune.

“The PDP is wondering why we are not responding to the wild accusations emanating from their fertile imagination. It is because we consider the accusations nothing but an irritant.”

Mr Lai Mohammed said that the PDP’s assault on the Buhari administration’s anti-corruption battle is a futile attempt at saving his own neck and that of his party. But unfortunately, it is too late in the day for them.

Group Accuses N’Assembly Members Of Working 15 Days & Pocketing N13bn

Is it true that members of both arms of the National Assembly who recently embarked on annual recess have only worked for about 15days since their inauguration on June 9th?

This was the poser raised by the Team Leader of Media Integrity and Coordinator, Projekthope, a pressure group seeking a better Nigeria, Steve Aborisade.

Aborisade in a press release, said the recess which came barely few days after the National Assembly had remained shut due to leadership crisis was a great disservice to the nation.

According to him: “A situation which has ensured that they have sat for legislative business for only about 15 days since their inauguration three months ago, but in the process collectively pocketed over N13 billion within same period in allowances with not a single bill to their names is an indictment of the character and texture of the personalities of individuals occupying both chambers of our national assembly…”

Coroner Accuses Synagogue Of Criminal Negligence, Says They Should Prosecuted

A coroner on Wednesday said a megachurch run by popular Nigerian preacher TB Joshua should be prosecuted after a building collapse killed 116 people, most of them South Africans.

“The church must be investigated and prosecuted for not obtaining the relevant approval before embarking on the construction of the building,” Oyetade Komolafe said in his ruling on last year’s tragedy.

“The church was culpable because of criminal negligence resulting in the death of the victims.”

The coroner’s inquest was called to determine the circumstances of the collapse of the guesthouse for foreign followers of Joshua’s Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) on September 12 last year.

Komolafe also dismissed Joshua’s claims in his ruling, which recorded that the victims likely died from multiple injuries, including fractured skulls, caused by the collapse.

“The collapse was as a result of structural failures,” he said, calling for the prosecution of the two engineers used by the church.

PDP Condemns House Drama, Accuses Buhari Of Bias

The Peoples Democratic Party has condemned what it described as a show of shame and national embarrassment, Thursday’s fracas in the House of Representatives.

It said the ugly development brings to question President Muhammadu Buhari and his party’s commitment to democracy, unity and the stability of the country.

The PDP said “the disgraceful act” was a direct consequence of President Buhari’s lack of democratic credentials to respect the independence and sanctity of the legislative arm of government, the very citadel of democracy, as enshrined in the nation’s constitution.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, in a statement in Ahuja on Thursday said “the barbaric attempt to physically assault a duly elected Speaker, seize the mace, the authority of the House, is a direct attack on the Nigerian parliament which embodies the supremacy of the people and our freedom as a democratic nation.”

Nigerian Army Accuses Amnesty International of Shunning Investigation

The Nigerian Army says international human rights group, Amnesty International (AI), has failed to honour its invitation to join its investigative panel on the alleged human rights abuse in the North East.

Reacting to a report by the international human rights group on June 3, the Chief of Administration of the Nigerian Army, Major-General Adamu Abubakar, explained that the essence of inviting Amnesty International officials to join its investigative panel was to guarantee fairness and justice while proving that the military has nothing to hide.

Even though the military had reacted in various press statements, it has found time to detail its activities following the release of the report.

Major-General Adamu Abubakar denied claims that the military did not cooperate with the rights group in the process of its investigation.

The military, according to him, has zero tolerance for human rights abuses and other war crimes, promising to investigate thoroughly the investigation by the human rights group.

APC Accuses Fayose Of Awarding Self N720m Salary Arrears

The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has accused Governor Ayodele Fayose of awarding N720 million to himself as the arrears of his unfinished first term. The governor was impeached on October 16, 2006 by the then Ekiti State House of Assembly.

But the Supreme Court in a recent judgment said the impeachment was null and void because due process was not followed.

The state APC Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatubosun, in a statement on Thursday said it was “selfish and callous” for the governor to pay himself arrears for unfinished term when he had yet to pay workers and poor pensioners in the state.

The party said it was equally “shameful and heartless” for the governor to refuse to pay statutory  pensions benefit to Ekiti elders which is not more than N5,000 for many of them, after serving the state meritoriously.

It added that the government had also cancelled the N5,000 social security scheme paid to 20,000 elderly Ekiti people by former Governor Kayode Fayemi’s administration.

National leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP alleged yesterday that the governing party, the All Progressives Congress, APC was planning to plunge the country into anarchy with its planned moves to arm-twist the various election tribunals to subvert the will of the people and upturn democratically elected governments in some states, just as it stressed that it was dangerous to democracy.

According to PDP, the APC was already hounding the PDP senators-elect and threatening to use its new federal might to influence to coax the tribunals against them if they fail to do its bidding in the ongoing politicking to raise new leadership in the Senate.

In a statement yesterday by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh , the party which vowed to rigidly resist such an action, said that as a party, it was privy to intelligence reports showing certain clandestine moves and nocturnal meetings in Lagos and Abuja on how the APC has put in place ways on how it would compromise the sanctity of the electoral tribunals in their compositions and locations to suit the purpose of the ruling party.

Metuh said, “We are aware that there are moves by the APC to cause the doctoring of the membership of the gubernatorial elections tribunals in some PDP states, particularly Akwa-Ibom, Abia, Rivers and Delta with the aim to bring in friendly officers, possibly to push through their agenda against our great party.

“Also we question the so-called security reasons adduced for the decision to relocate the Akwa-Ibom state Governorship, National and State Assembly elections tribunals out of the state and wonder why Akwa-Ibom was singled out.

“Nigerians and the international community would recall that we had earlier alerted of furtive moves by the APC to procure and compromise some stakeholders in the elections including INEC and security personnel to bear false witness and doctor electoral materials against the PDP at the tribunals.
“In the same vein, we had earlier alerted of a groundswell of plots by the APC to foist a one party rule in our country by attempting to destabilize the PDP, take over some of our states and legislative seats, all to ensure that there is no strong opposition when they eventually assume power.

“It is apparently in line with this heinous agenda that the APC has started hounding our senators-elect with threats to use the tribunals against them if they fail to do their bidding in the parliament.
“It is worrisome that this ‘jackboot mentality’ and rape of our democracy which is averse to the spirit of the healing process is happening with the knowledge of President Muhammadu Buhari, who is a direct beneficiary of the huge sacrifice the PDP made to ensure that the nation remains peaceful and stable.

“We want President Buhari to note that the plot by his party to alter the will of the people and unlawfully take over states genuinely won by the PDP is obviously an invitation to anarchy capable of truncating our hard-earned democracy as it would be stiffly resisted by the people.

“We invite the international community and lovers of democracy worldwide to note the ugly developments and hold the APC responsible should there be any break down of law and order in the polity. The PDP wishes to restate in the strongest possible terms that we are not vanquished and will therefore resist these plots with all the energy and force availed by the law.

“Let it be known that there is no way we can fold our hands and watch while the mandates freely given to our governors and National Assembly members fall prey to the ravenous ambition of the APC.
“It is on this note that we once again draw the attention of the leaderships of the judiciary, INEC and security forces to the plots intended to compromise their men, drag in their institutions and pitch them against the people. We therefore charge them to protect their sanctity by closely monitoring their officials to ensure that they are not in anyway manipulated in this direction”.

Oshiomhole Accuses Okonjo-Iweala Of Destroying Nigerian Economy

The Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has lambasted outgoing finance minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, over her claims that states received N2.92 trillion excess crude money between 2011 and 2014 with little to show, the latest in a series of tit-for-tat between governors and the minister over allegations of mismanagement of oil revenues.

Mr. Oshiomhole accused the minister of gross mismanagement of the Nigerian economy, saying she was merely feeding Nigerians with half-truths in the last four years.

Mr. Oshiomhole said the minister has herself to blame as she ran the Excess Crude Account as a “one-man show”.

The governor said Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala’s recent outcry against oil marketers over falsification of fuel subsidy claims may have been out of in fear about the incoming President, Muhammadu Buhari.

“It is quite intriguing that with barely few days left in office, she has suddenly woken up from her slumber to realize that oil marketers have all along been falsifying subsidy claims and defrauding the nation of billions of naira and dollars,” the governor said.

He said the person best placed to explain the state of the country’s economy at the moment was Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala.
As a member of the National Economic Council, Mr. Oshiomhole said he had spoken out publicly at different times about the way the economy was managed by Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala.

He said the minister’s silence over the PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) audit on the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation is “deafening”.

The audit revealed “massive abuse of public trust and stealing of our common patrimony in high places under her watch and the government she serves”, Mr. Oshiomhole said.

Criticising what he called “latter day policy activism” by the minister, Mr. Oshiomhole said apart from the subsidy regime, the minister must also come clean on some other critical issues that demand accountability from her.

“The question to ask is: how come that it is now, for the first time, that we are hearing from the Minister of Finance about fraudulent claims by the oil marketers amounting to billions of Naira? At what point did the Minister of Finance and CME realize that these fraudulent and similar claims are going on? When did it start? Is it just recently or it has been going on all along? These questions are pertinent because we know that if the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) were doing its work diligently, all claims by oil marketers would be vetted on a daily basis before their payments are processed by the Ministry of Finance. Hence, there should be no dispute about the amount due to oil marketers at any point in time.

“What the foregoing, therefore, suggests is that all along, PPPRA, the Ministry of Finance and the oil marketers have been involved in an unholy alliance, in the mismanagement of the fuel subsidy regime and in the process defrauding the nation of its revenues,” the governor said.

Mr. Oshiomhole said the Minister cannot stop at simply shedding “crocodile tears” about fraudulent claims by oil marketers, saying she should ensure full disclosure by giving the full details of subsidy payments to oil marketers in the last four years, including the parameters used to calculate the subsidies.

“The recent nationwide fuel and energy crisis, adjudged the worst in the economic history of Nigeria, is merely a reflection of the gross mismanagement of the economy which characterized Dr. Okonjo-Iweala’s tenure since 2011,” he said.

Mr. Oshiomhole said state governments, who are joint owners of the Excess Crude Account, were not properly briefed on the status of the account, and challenged the minister to shed more light on the spending from the account.

APC Accuses Jonathan Of Setting Traps For Buhari

Out-going President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has been accused of setting traps for the incoming Government of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) by embarking on unnecessary last-minute appointments as well as the removal and immediate replacement of heads of strategic government parastatals.

The allegation was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Port Harcourt by the Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“We are appalled and disappointed by this gale of appointments, sacks and replacements by a go-slow President who was hitherto known for his inability to remove erring public officers and to replace ministers and heads of government agencies who either retired or resigned their appointments. The last-minute rush by President Jonathan to remove and replace heads of strategic government departments and agencies is therefore nothing but an attempt to set traps for the incoming Buhari Administration in the hope that reviewing these illegal actions would result in the loss of goodwill by the successor-administration,” Rivers APC said in the statement signed by the Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya.
