250 HOR Members Want Dogara Removed.

The former chairman of the House of Representatives committee on appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin claims 250 members of the Green Chambers have signed a petition calling for the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara to resign.

This is despite the instruction from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to Jibrin asking him to desist from commenting on the budget padding scandal.

The former chairman, while speaking on African Independent Televison (AIT), said the Reps have also demanded that the House be reconvened so the issue can be ironed out.

He also revealed that the Department of State Services (DSS) has beefed up security around him.

According to Jibrin, “I am not alone, I am with many members. Yesterday (Wednesday), a lot of them said they wanted to go to the secretariat with me, but I said no. I didn’t want us to make the thing to look like a movie.

“We have the transparency group and it did not just start now; so no one can say Jibrin initiated it. It was formed even before we went on holiday. Anyone that says we are lying must be a joker because there were about 200 signatures before we left for holiday.

“Now, they have increased to about 250. Another group has emerged aside the integrity group and these groups have come together and all they are asking Mr. Speaker to do is to reconvene the House immediately and step down, but the body language of Mr. Speaker and a few corrupt people around him is that the issue would have died down when we resume in September and Nigerians would have forgotten.

“You are corrupt and you are talking about September. What we are asking for is that Mr. Speaker should reconvene the House immediately and step down so that internal and external investigations can go on concurrently.”

Meanwhile, The Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has said that Dogara is innocent until proven guilty.

Deadly Clash Between Fulani, Gbagyi Communities Displaces 250 In Niger State

No fewer than 250 people have been displaced due to a clash between Fulani herdsmen and Gbagyi farmers in Niger state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), report that the clash led to the death of four persons and destruction of property in Bara-kuta in Bosso Local Government Area on Friday.

Ahmed Inga, Director General, Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Minna on Tuesday.

He said the displaced people were being resettled in a school in Bosso while reconciliation was ongoing toward returning them to their homes.

“The state government has established links with the herdsmen and the farmers toward restoring lasting peace in the area to enable the Gwagyis go back to their homes and attend to their farms.

“We have to do everything possible to make sure that peace returns to the community to ensure the security of lives and property,” he said.

Mr. Inga said the peace initiative was being brokered by the state’s Commissioner for Sports Development, Mamman Bosso, the Emir of Minna, Umaru Bahago as well as security agencies.

The director general added that 167 houses were burnt while 17 motorcycles and other property were destroyed during the clash.

Naira Further Firms Up, Now 250/$

The naira rose by 50 per cent yesterday against the dollar at the parallel market to N250 from N375, which it traded on Monday.

The naira had been on a free fall in the last two weeks, peaking at 391 against the greenback at the parallel market last Thursday. The local currency, however, began a gradual recovery on Friday. Bureau de Change (BDC) operators as well as street hawkers in Abuja sold the dollar between N250 and N255.

A bureau de change operator, who simply identified himself as Ibrahim, said that he was very confused as the Naira continued to gain strength.

He said: “Earlier this morning, I bought dollars for N305, but now it is sold at N250, making me to lose N55 in less than 10 hours. I am very scared of buying dollars because of the continued instability.

“Although I am happy that the naira continued to gain strength at the parallel market as an overflow of dollars chased the local currency but we are losing greatly here.”

Forex dealers said the local currency was set to gain further momentum in coming days, arguing that most traders were rushing to reduce the amount of dollars in their holdings.

Currency strategist and experts have also stated that the depreciation the naira had recorded in the last two weeks was mainly artificial, arguing that it was part of the activities of currency speculators to force the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Presidency to devalue the naira.

Why We Won’t Reabsorb 250 Dismissed Soldiers- Army

The Nigerian Army on Tuesday said it would not reabsorb the 250 soldiers dismissed last week for failing to join their colleagues posted to the north east.

The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Sani Usman, said the soldiers were dismissed over gross acts of indiscipline, cowardice, and absence without leave.

“The attention of the Nigerian Army has also been drawn to a set of 250 protesting dismissed soldiers in Nigerian Union of journalists (NUJ) Secretariat, Kaduna, pleading through the media to be reabsorbed back again into the Nigerian Army,” Mr. Usman, a colonel, said in a statement on Tuesday.

“They were part of the 2,023 dismissed soldiers last year that were earlier reinstated back into the Service by the present Chief of Army Staff. However these set of soldiers (the 250) absconded for more than one week when they were told that they were to move to North East on the 6th of January 2016.

“They started coming back when they realised that others were moved to units other than the theatre of operations in the North East. Please note that all efforts were made to make all the reinstated soldiers comfortable and integrate them back into the system.

“The protesting soldiers are the few who are recalcitrant to military duties and discipline. They are simply not interested in army job but want to earn salary. No one should listen to them as they are not patriotic at all.”

Mr. Usman said the army had been tolerant with the soldiers’ acts of indiscipline and unprofessional conduct.
