The residents of Ikorodu in Lagos were thrown into shock when a young lady identified as Adebayo Ayomide gagged her own baby and dumped her in a bush in the area to die. According to sources, the incident occurred on Saturday, June 10, 2017.
It was learnt that the teenager dumped her her two-month-old baby in the bush and fled to Bariga where she resides before she was apprehended by the security operatives of the Lagos State Police Command, yesterday, June 14, 2017.
According to the Police, the secondary school drop-out was impregnated by another 19-year-old Tewogbade Martins, who lives at Igi-Olugbin Street, Bariga, with his parents. The pregnancy was reportedly rejected by Martins’ parents who alleged that Ayomide was sleeping around.
It was further revealed that the baby was delivered at a traditional birth attendant, TBA, centre at Onalaga Street, Bariga, after which Ayomide left for Igbode town, Ogun State where she wandered around before she was housed by one Mrs Ajoke Fatai.
Ayomide’s helpers were however left in awe when she left the home and never returned.
She was traced her abode in Bariga, Lagos, after members of a vigilante group, who were attracted by movement from a nearby bush found the baby already gagged in head, nose and neck with a piece of cloth.
Speaking to InsideMainland, a member of Onyabo vigilante group said the operatives were briefed of the incident after the arrest of the teenager. The source added that she was handed over to the Police for investigation and prosecution if need be.
Upon her arrest, the teenager told the Police that “while at Ikorodu, a white-garment prophet told me that the baby was possessed, when I went there for prayers. The woman I stayed with even influenced me to dump the baby and run away.”
Ayomide was however taken to custody by the Bariga Police Division from where she was referred to the Gender Unit of the State’s Command.
