1 feared dead as Police, Eiye Cult group clash in Ejigbo.

There was pandemonium on Oboye Street in the Orilowo end of Ejigbo community yesterday, March 8, 2017, after a gang suspected to be cultists engaged the operatives of the Anti-Robbery Squad in a free for all fight.

The brawl which lasted for a while led to some residents and other passerby sustaining injuries, InsideMainland gathered.

According to a source who spoke to InsideMainland, the scuffle “started in the morning when the gang prevented the Police from gaining access to a house after they entered into the community.”

InsideMainland learnt that the Police opened fire on the gang members suspected to be of the Eiye Cult group which led to uneasiness in the area. As a result, the gang members entered into shops around the vicinity in search of empty bottles and cutlasses to prevent arrest from the Police.

The source further disclosed that “the Police arrested some of the gang members and took them to the station. The fight however continued when the gang wanted to recover the arrested members from the Police which led to the Police shooting sporadically into the air.

“I heard that a man who was walking past was hit by a stray bullet and he was immediately rushed to the hospital for urgent attention.”

This fracas however led to shop owners shutting down activities owing to fear of getting injured in the process.

Presently, the community is deserted as shops owners around the area are yet to open for business.

Commenting on this, the source said that “today is Thursday which is when the regular sanitation for market women. Usually, people come around to clean their shops but the area is dry. The few shop owners that are around are yet to open their shops for fear of reprisal attacks.”

Efforts to reach the Police Spokesperson for comment on the matter is ongoing as at press time.
