Spanish treasury begin Ronaldo probe

Spanish Treasury Hacienda have confirmed it will investigate Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo for an alleged tax evasion.

According to Cadena COPE, Spain’s Secretary of State for Finance Jose Enrique Fernandez revealed the treasury would “perform inspections it deems necessary” on Ronaldo.

“The information held by the ministry of finance corresponds to that published in the media,” explained Jose Enrique Fernandez de Moya.
El Confidencial reported on Thursday that the Portuguese, among other world stars such as former Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil, deliberately hid income from image rights in low-tax countries such as Republic of Ireland.

Several European newspapers have obtained leaked documents which suggest Ronaldo and Mourinho could be involved in a multimillion-Euro ‘tax evasion and money laundering’ scheme, and the newspapers claim Ronaldo and Mourinho may have benefited from a tax system orchestrated by their agent Jorge Mendes.
