The family members of the late DSP Mohammed Alkali, who was murdered during the rerun election in Rivers State, are demanding justice, saying nothing would pacify them but the prosecution of the perpetrators.
The mother of the deceased, Hajia Rakiya Alkali, in an interview with Northern City News in Bosso, Niger State, said the killers of her son would not go unpunished, stressing that the spirit of the late police officer would not rest until his killers were identified and punished.
“Whoever did this to my son will never go unpunished by God. The spirit of my son will not rest until the person confesses, but in everything God knows the best,” she said.
Alkali was beheaded and his aide murdered by some assailants during the legislative rerun election in Rivers State on December 10,2016, but the police said they had arrested some suspects in connection with the killing.
His remains were buried in Bosso, Niger State, on Monday.
The bereaved mother said all the family wanted was for justice to prevail to deter a recurrence of such criminality in the society.
She said, “I want the government to fish out the killers of my son and bring them to book. My son seeks justice. I pray the government is ready and willing to bring them (suspects) to face the law, but if not, with the help of God, vengeance will take its course.”
Speaking in the same vein, a sibling of the deceased, who did not want her name in print, stated that the family would pray for divine vengeance if the government failed to apprehend and punish his killers.
She said, “Mohammed’s nickname is ‘Justice’ and he earned the name right from his youth. He had always believed in justice and hated injustice. So, justice must prevail, the perpetrators must face the wrath of the law. We want justice to prevail and if nothing is done, God will do His own.”
