Robin Van Persie escapes “blindness” after eye injury sustained during a football match.

Former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has avoided what could have turned to a serious eye injury after being wheeled away while playing for Fenerbahce on Sunday.

Van Persie had already put Fenerbahce 1-0 up against Akhisar Belediyespor after some minutes, but was then stretchered out later with a bandage over his bloodied left eye.

The 33-year-old Dutch striker was then loaded into an ambulance outside the Manisa 19 Mayis Stadium and taken to hospital amid fears he had sustained a serious injury that could lead to permanent loss of vision.

However, Fenerbahce’s doctor Burak Kundurac?o?lu provided an update on the club’s website following the 3-1 win explaining that Van Persie had suffered a “torn eyelid” and had not sustained any damage to his vision.
