LASG To Transform Gbagada Youth Centre Into Mini Stadium.

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to re-construct the Gbagada Youth Centre to a world-class mini stadium. This development is part of the efforts to upgrade sporting facilities in Lagos State by the government.

The project which is in conjunction with the Ministry of Youth and Social Development and the Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC), bottlers of Coca-Cola, was disclosed at a stakeholders’ meeting with representatives of the NBC, members of Community Development Association (CDA) and concerned youths in the area, on Monday, November 7th, 2016 at the Gbagada Youth and Skill Acquisition Centre, Lagos.

Speaking on the project, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Pharm (Mrs) Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, said that the project was in line with the vision of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to transform the youth centre into a world class sporting facility in order to revive grassroots and community sports.

In her words, “the plan is aimed at providing sports parks and recreational facilities in various neighbourhoods to revive grassroots, community and schools sports. This includes the construction of mini sports centres. This edifice when complete would revamp schools and after-schools sports as well as serve the entire community.”

The Commissioner further enjoined the contractor to engage youths and artisans living in the area as direct labourers in order to improve the economic activities of residents in the area.
