Arsenal Legend Lauren Claims Gunners Don’t Need Riyad Mahrez… As They Have Theo Walcott

According to reports Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez has met with Arsene Wenger and is ready to sign for Arsenal, however one Gunners legend isn’t a fan of the move.

Yes, ex-Arsenal defender Lauren believes the north London club don’t need Mahrez as they already have a plethora of attacking talent, including Theo Walcott.

Speaking to Standard Sport, the 39-year-old said Arsenal need to sign players who are more direct and aggressive.

He said: “Mahrez is not needed at Arsenal.

“He is a very good player, but how many similar players in terms of technically proficient, creative midfielders and widemen do Arsenal have already?”

Lauren spent six years at Arsenal and is widely considered one of the clubs best ever right-backs, winning two Premier League titles, three FA Cups.

He added: “They have Mesut Ozil, they have Jack Wilshere, they have Aaron Ramsey, they have Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, they have Theo Walcott – Arsenal don’t need Mahrez.

“Arsenal have always had dynamic players – but they need to change that style a little bit, maybe be a little more direct, with more aggressiveness, and determination – which means players with a different style than Mahrez can offer.”

Lauren’s comments will surely worry the Arsenal faithful, who were left infuriated by a string of poor performances from Walcott last season.

Meanwhile Mahrez won the Premier League Player of the Year trophy as the Foxes went all the way to win their first Premier League title.
