Kaduna Anti-Cattle Rustling Team Recovers 59,515 Animals, Arrests 59 Kidnappers

The special anti cattle rustling team set up by the Kaduna State Government about a year ago has recovered 59, 515 animals in various part of the state, the Coordinator of the team, Yakubu Soja, has said.

Soja said the team was under the multi security force, known as Operation Yaki.

He said at a press briefing on the one year anniversary of Gov.. Nasiru El-Rufa’i, that all the recovered animals were handed over to their original owners.

The coordinator said that the recovered animals comprised of 30,000 cows, 20,000 sheep, 9,000 goats and 500 donkeys, and 55 dogs.

Soja attributed the successes recorded in the fight against cattle rustling to the provision of necessary logistics to operatives involved in the assignment.

“Gov. El-Rufai has purchased 107 surveillance vehicles, three rescue ambulances with sophisticated medical equipment which were deployed to the three major highways in the state,” he said.

According to him, additional 50 surveillance patrol motorcycles and 135 walkie-talkies have been distributed to security agencies to beef up security in the state.

Soja disclosed that 1, 000 bullet proof vests and helmets were also distributed to protect the security personnel and boost their combat readiness.

He said apart from the clampdown on cattle rustling, the operatives had also successfully thwarted armed robberies, kidnapping and neutralised the activities of local miscreants, known as Sara Suka.

The security coordinator disclosed that 77 suspected armed robbers were arrested during the period and 12 armed robbery attempts foiled.

Soja the security outfit had also launched onslaught and arrested 59 kidnappers, while “a total of 256 miscreants were arrested and their profiles have been investigated and are now facing prosecution.”

To further enhance security in the state, Soja announced that the government plans to install CCTV cameras, adding that training of personnel to man the equipment had commenced.(NAN)
