Anosike who represented Anambra North in the sixth Senate, in a personal letter addressed to Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, the party national chairman, said he was no longer a member of the major opposition party.
He hinged his decision to dump PDP on the current state of the party in Anambra State.
He is yet to announce his new party.
According to Anosike, the party needs enlightened and educated persons at its leadership rein Senator Emmanuel Anosike has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Leadership reports.
Anosike who represented Anambra North in the sixth Senate, resigned his membership of the PDP in a personal letter he wrote to Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, the party national chairman.
According to him, his decision to dump PDP was reflective of the state of the party in Anambra. He however remained silent on which party he is moving to. Reflecting on his years at the PDP, Anosike said the party needs enlightened and educated persons at its leadership rein.
He said: “Based on the foregoing and in line with democratic principles, I hereby tender my resignation as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).” The former governorship running mate in Anambra state traced the injustices and impunity within Anambra PDP from the denial of Prof. ABC Nwosu of the party’s ticket, to the infamous kidnap of current minister of Labour and then governor of the state, Sen. Chris Ngige.
He added that while he stood with Ngige over the matter he was consequently “hurried out of the Senate by the machinery of the PDP. The court of Appeal upheld other senate elections in Anambra state but annulled mine on terribly unabashed flimsy tenets that could not survive slight judicial introspection.” He also recalled his ordeal as gubernatorial running mate to former central bank governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, describing it as the most horrid display of anti-party afflictions. “The nuisance value of the PDP and its hierarchy was amply displayed during the Soludo’s candidature. Suits and counter suits rolled on till one week to the elections; engineered by the so called leaders of the party tormenting and destabilizing the party candidates.”
He added: “I believe it (PDP) needs a rebirth or renewal with enlightened and educated persons at its leadership the leadership rein. “This leadership has to operate at the points and levels that political parties in other parts of the civilized world operate.” Senator Emmanuel Anosike had blamed the defeat suffered by the PDP at the 2015 general election on the act of sabotage by some chieftains of the party.
According to him, PDP’s woes began when state governors insisted on nominating unpopular candidates for primary elections, adding that the governors could not help deliver their candidates and their failures robbed on ex-president Goodluck Jonathan.
